I don't think AoC, War or even WoW had this volume of buzz surrounding it before it launched. More people have heard of Darkfall than AoC and War combined!

Now you are just making stuff up.  In fact, there are far more gamers who've never heard of DF, vs AOC or WAR.

Its OK to support a game, but please keep in the realm of plausibility.

And as another poster said, if this isn't the greatest sandbox game ever created its going to be cruicified.

But I'm starting to think that same fate awaits all new releases, we gamers are a hard bunch to please.

I have to agree with you. People think darkfall has all this publicity. The buzz around my office is WAR, a little buzz about AOC but everyone is all about WAR (carebears)

I bring up darkfall, I can honestly say not ONE person I have mentioned to has heard it. It might have a buzz around mmorg.com and a negative buzz at that, but how many mmorpg players really come to this site??

Darkfall is too unheard of and too niche to have people filling up thier servers on day 1, that next to the people who just plain gave up waiting or lost interest due to bad publicity (which does exist)

If darkfall come out and is in the vicinity of being what it promises to be, I will be there to stay, but lets not be a fanboy about it and think this game is the one mmo to rule all............

correction...before it releases...EVER

With their "official 2008" comment on their dev journals, they bought themselves seven to 18 months of patience form their community.  I don't think people will stick around after that.  They've heard it too much before.

You'd be suprised the Perseverance of a Fanboy

As much of a fan as I am of the Idea of Darkfall, I think you'd be a fool not to listen to what polarization is saying.

I just can't seem to think of a good reason for them to keep everything so hush hush. I hear excuses like they're too busy (right), they want us to discover the world (right) and so on and so forth from the fanboi's but the logical thing to do at this level would be to promote.

I dont know maybe it's just me and I dont understand how to run a business but try as I may I cant find a good reason to handle this the way aventurine is handling it

Not sure why you'd think that. Im perfectly calm and collect right now. If anything I pity people like catizone and Zorvan

While the fanboi's of DF might just be a bit naive and close-minded, the trolls are absolutely pathetic. The fanboi's come here in hopes of a dream game and it may blind them a lil but this IS a forum for a game THEY want.

The trolls, why are they here? They "KNOW" this game wont come out, why come here? This has been asked of them and they say amusement and entertainment. If trolling on a forum is how you get your kicks, then your life is probably pretty god aweful boring and uneventful

Does it mean their lives are any more 'god aweful boring and uneventful' than someone who wastes their time to come here and act as galiant defender of the 'close minded and naive'?

It's a game forum about an mmo that is supposedly in development, people who come here largely do so to discuss and argue about mmo's. Guess what, that doesn't exclude this one, freaky eh?

All in all the minority here are most likely those that believe the game isn't vw. So discussions as to the validity of its existance is going to be a rather prime subject on forums dedicated to it, no?

Actually, yes it does. Apparently you lack the logic to stop seeing things in black or white. First off, look at my post count... exactly. This is my only account, I dont post often, I just find you trolls to be a sad lot.

As you stated this is a forum and Im just telling what I see, sorry if I struck a nerve with you.

I dont see stating my opinion on what I see as a waste of time, especially because I only post from work, where I'm sitting at a computer half the way anyways. Your coming off a little hypocritical but that's okay. I'm used to them...

Catizone is one of those people with alot of pent up anger. Whether it's due to his lack of sexual interactions or inability to hang out with the "cool" kids, he has much inner anger and resentment.

This is why him (and others like him) stalk this forum looking to vent. He could easily just never come here but he does. Ignore him and dont hate him, but pity him...

Im not a fanboi mind you, after the D&L  disaster im very sceptical about DF, however I find it silly that you think ANYONE has to prove ANYTHING to you. Who are you again? That's right nobody from nowhere

Each one of us is nobody from nowhere who doesn't matter.  But take all of us nobodies from nowhere, and combine us, and together we are the Anonymous Gaming Customer Potential that mmos aim to get as customers.  You, the couple dozen DF fanboi followers, are not enough to flesh out a world of this nature, you need us... the customer potential ,who demand more than vague promises and pretty pre-rendered still imagery or videos or whatever.  And (much to some of our chagrin) we the masses apparently are not fans of free for all open PVP full loot rulesets, or skillfully done lack of leveling and other typical mmo rpg facets.  Witness if you will the typically small ratio of pvp to pve servers on most mmos in existance.

Now add to that a world that is supposedly bigger than dnl (going off the OP's post), and one has to wonder.. will one see other players most of the time?  Will there be a 500x500 battle, if the players are spread out across the board in small clan groups of 10-100 or whatever?  Remember, "niche" style games generally have a much less sizable fan base.

And lastly.. if the makers of this DF think having numbers and underscores available in your nicknames as a selling point.. Thats... unbelievably silly, to put it  mildly.

Yes, everyone is nobody from nowhere, however YOU seem to be an illiterate nobody from nowhere. You just replied to my post saying YOU, the DF fanoboi followers, me? Can you read slowbie?? I JUST said im far from a DF fanboi and I have many doubts this game will deliver ANYTHING it promises.

Your not part of any community your just some nitwit who doesnt even understand what a fanboi is but calls everyone it

Adventurine hasn't released any tangible evidence that Darkfail even exists, screenshots and letting a couple of friendly fournalists watch you play an anonymous demo in Greece doesn't = an MMORPG (Sigil did the exact same to Microsoft until they got smoked).

I don't need to prove Darkfail is vapourware, the onus is upon the fanbois to produce real tangible evidence that this game exists in any shape or form. For all I know Darkfail could just be an investment scam, I see no evidence to the contrary!

No, it's not. Why does anyone have to prove anything prove anything to you? Who are you?? Your just another one of chte countless trolls who come here to bash darkfall, why? Well like most of the trolls admitted you find it amusing. How sad and boring your life must be if THIS is how you get your kicks.

They have announced a release date every year for 5 years.

This is just too funny. How about you show me videos of how the raids are better than WoW, and the PvP is better than WAR, and the graphics greater than Conan, or how the sea battles are better than PotBS. Also, I wouldn't mind if you throw in a video of a 500v500 player battle. laff

Umm, the raids suck in WOW, the pvp sucks in WAR, the graphics for AOC, well there nice but rest of that game sucks, and the battles in potbs, lets not even go there

I can only hope you are wrong. When D&L were in development i played SWG, so i missed the whole hype.

But D&L did atleast become a released MMO. And i have no idea what was supposed to be so amazing with D&L? It sounds juat as Vanguard.

So its hard for me to se anything in common between DF and D&L. We should think about all good MMOs instead, and hope for the best : )

I'm talking about super small development teams taking long to deliver HUGE projects that are actually bigger than games currently on the market today.  Let's think about it a second.  They say DFO will take 8 real life hours to cross.  Unless you go to EVEOnline, none of today's AAA MMORPGs take 8 hours to cross.  You would need a army of developers to this.  Where else to get an army of developers to do this than college univerisities where people need INTERNSHIPS to graduate with their degree programs.  It is free labor for Aveturine in a place where cost of living is already cheap.  This slows down the development cycle but greatly expands the work force for the game and lessens the money strains in paying for labor.

The 8 hour "runtime" across the world is just something no other developer cares to do because: They think no player can handle it. It have "nothing" to do with labor. Funcom (AoC) or EA (WAR) could do it if they wanted to, LOL even D&L did have a huge world....and that was many years ago....by a small dev team : )

Got a point there. 8 hours to run across the world is not a very marketable feature in the soft non-skilled gamer of wannabe gamers we are now in. Even a small world like wow people would whine and cry and whimper if they had to travel and couldnt use the transit system

I only usually defend Darkfall's existence only because until it hits beta or gets officially canceled we just don't know. I for one do hope that Darkfall does actually release some day and lives up to at least some of it's hype but until I play it myself I won't pass judgment on the game. The day I can login or it officially becomes Vaporware will be the day I decide whether or not Darkfall is at least some of what it claims to be. Until that day I will remain in the middle between fanboy and hater and follow the game with a skeptical but still open minded eye.

Any other way would be ignorant. That's what trolls liek Zorvan and fanbois like downtoearth dont seem to get. Talking like you KNOW for a fact is just plain ignorance

D&L was the closest thing we hardcore gamers had to a good pvp system, while not perfect, better then the rest. Looting, player built cities, huge world, skill based not class based or time invested based.

DF promises a MUCH better game then D&L

I'll be the first to admit, I have my doubts about DFO.

Last night, myself and some buddies at our weekly D&D game started talking about DFO and D&L.  We actually came up with what I would a logical explanation as to why this game is taking so long.

Remember D&L.  That game took way to long to get to market.  After everything was said and done, and court cases were heard, we found out that D&L coded mostly by college students on Reunion Island as part of class projects for gaming degrees.

What is to say that the exact same thing isn't going on with DFO.  DFO is horribly slow with any updates.  College finals have been going on.  That could explain why there was no update last week.  I've been following this game forever and we get almost zero news over the summer.  I would contend that DFO is a local college as their junior developers and classes are usually just six months or seven months out of the year.

This also explains why we never, ever hear anything on the actually developers of the game.  They are mostly college students working for grades instead of being paid by Aventure.  This also explains how they can stay in development for so long with what appears to be goverment subsidies as their source of income to stay afloat.

That is my theory.  I'm sticking to it.

That is all.

I have the same concerns you have just stated. I was once a D&L Fanboi. I lived in the hype and swallowed every piece of garbage they threw at us. I was naive then and that experience taught me one thing... until you play the game yourself you know NOTHING.

All these people who sit there and say ANY statement as if it were a fact (whether troll or fanboi) really is talkign out of his/her arse. The trolls and fanbois are the EXACT same...

The thing is, seeing this with Darkfall is like a creepy deja vu. Everythign i happening JUST like it did with D&L. The rabid fanbois swearing the game was going to put all the other games to shame. The fanbois making up excuse after excuse for devs. even the SAME EXACT EXCUSES. There too busy makign the best game the world has seen to make a journal, they keep pushing it back to make it great the day it comes out. Id rather wait 10 years to play DF then play any other game.... SAME EXACT EXCUSES to the T.

Then, D&L released, and let me tell you, for all the AOC bashing I do, I'd MUCH rather play AOC the D&L. Now I have already seen the fanboi defense to this. DF is not D&L blah blah blah we all know its not, but after seeing what I saw there I can safely say that NOONE HERE KNOWS ANYTHING> The trolls, the fanbois, there one in the same, just guessing and assuming.

I love the concept behind DF, but the similarity between DF and D&L is just TOO close not to take notice. I have a really hard time believing DF will be what it's bragging it will be. I HOPE it does, but common sense tells me something is REALLY wrong here

Well DF better get it done alreayd, with other mmo's offering similiar features on the horizon they dont really want to wait too much longer. I feel like the first game of this playstyle to come out will do really well, people tend to get struck to the first of a certain genre of game they play, even if better ones come out after it

What i miss is a proper scaling in diffculty to reward.

either its *easy and mildly rewarding*

or *impossible to do alone and rewarding*

Lotro (sorry to bring that up) had some quests

where you could definitly succeed as a good player but would fail over and over as  a poor player. As groups and solo.

To many games wheres either a bore or a fail.

see im not talkin about pvp here

A lot of people will disagree with my, those are the people who probably find WOW, AOC and WAR challenging. That's my point, this generation is so watered down and unskilled that those ezmode games actually ARE challenging to them......
