No this is not true. You can pretty much solo the whole game, but there isn't a "single-player option" post lvl20.

That is what I was afraid of.  I enjoyed the option being there, I wonder why the decided to take it away after 20.

Then it wouldnt be an MMO, however if thats the type of game you like, you might want to consider buying "The Witcher"

I think I am not making myself clear.  I enjoy a MMO, and I like to play it as such.  But sometimes, I want to shut off the MMO part of it so I don't have to deal with the bevy of G.I.F's.  That is what I would like.

Really?  So many people told me after 20, that option to switch to nighttime was not available, and the story sputters out in favour of the 10 million insegnificant quests to 80 syndrome.

Thinking about it, NWN and NWN2(to a lesser extent) sort of had the idea.  You had a single player game which was very enjoyable, and then you could play online whenever you felt like it.

I guess that's why I enjoy NWN2 so much, even if the OC was a bit hashmeat.  Would be groovy-cool-keen if AoC did the same thing, keep the switch to nighttime thing all the way to 80.

Yeah but it was nice having a MMO that you could turn single player if you were feeling particularly anti-social.  Sort of a break from John Gabriel's G.I.F.T. that you inevitably encounter in MMO's.

Why couldn't the whole game be like the first 20 levels?  I thought it was brilliant having a MMO that you could play singularly if you wished (switch to nighttime).

Compared to other releases in the past these forums have not been that bad at all. I would say it is doing pretty well seen as we have been keeping an eye on these boards. Like other games that come out we keep a close eye on the boards during a release.

But then again it is early days yet.

Keep in mind the game hasn't actually released yet.  Most of the people here, are people who didn't get in the EA, or are just curious lookie-lou's like myself.

I imagine on the 23rd these boards are going to be swarmed.

I'm just curious, but not interested in losing the 50$ if the game turns out to be something I'm not interested in.

Ya know in the hardcore PvP settings (like Shadowbane or the old Zek servers of EQ) some of the closest and most awesome (and friendly!) guilds emerged and I would give anything to go back to "ye olden days" like that again. I think the scared sheep are the people who are fleeing to the PvE servers....they obviously don't have what it takes to muster the counter-attacks on the organized griefers. That's what REALLY makes open PvP work is when guilds and players pull together to help the lowbies and the newcomers and fight off the PK'ers.

Or, maybe they just don't care?

Not everyone hinges pride and self-worth on how well you can pwn the next person.

Look on the AOC MB  you will find some ways to avoid ganking. Also you don't have to go to white sands. Try to do as many city and other quests first.

 

The Ganking will calm down as players get bored and as AOC put in some new rules to fix it. That is what comes with the territory. You have people who LOVE PVP and whine about it on the MB then when games add it they gank like there is no tomorrow until there is no one else to gank and they get bored looking for the next game.

POTBS has a similar problem with PVP and ganking. People like PVP, few like to be killed by groups of high level characters after respawning.

Speaking as someone with extensive experience in Open PVP games, the ganking wont calm down.   It'll just become more organized.
