No. I'm saying that games that were a success (like WoW, EQ, DAoC etc) peaked a few years after their launch, games that were failures (SWTOR, WAR, TERA, as it seems GW2 and of course many others) peaked a few days/weeks after their launch (8 days in GW2's case). If GW2 was a success you would see a rise in numbers right now, not a drop.

?? That makes no sense.  If a game has to peak a few years after release for it to be a success but those that havent even been out a year are considered failure because hey, you know, they haven't reached that multiyear peak because, you know, they are less than a year old.....????

If you want to compare by xfire numbers, compare it to other MMO's. Compared to other MMO's GW2 has been pretty steady, holding anywhere between 55% and 45% of MMO play hours. Comparing single MMO numbers you'll see same sort of variance in every game due weekends, holidays etc.

Aaand play hours are just play hours, player counts matter more. And XFire pretty much sucks. Yeah.

Charr were evil, still are somewhat.

Nonsense! Charr are just as good as everyone else, humans took their  lands first and charr are just reclaiming it! :P

Awww not this one again. This is just another XFire thread in disguise... :)

The truth.

How do you get "players  are leaving" from news saying "we sold loads of copies and we are re-activating sales so we can sell some more" exactly?

If you don't know what is business PR, I suggest you look it up. This is an honest statement, the world out there is full of sharks and being naive gets you bitten.

And I honestly wish some people would leave. I really do. But I am still stuck into overflow servers on most zones I go into. PEOPLE! Stop playing already GAWDDHMITH!

get ur facts straight please.

I have a feeling this thread is going to turn out E-P-I-C with well structured arguments like this :D

*popcorn*

That was... odd.

As artsy as it might or might not have been I still wonder why ANet did trailer like that. Artsiness propably is not best way to sell stuff.

I am mighty confused now :-)

Even if you stop there 120 hours of entertainment for 50e is not bad at all. Can't say many other games have given that much value to me. Overall all pretty decent review.

Personally I don't plan on stopping whenever I get to that point.. :)

Well maybe I want my 30 minutes of play time to actually mean something?, nothing worse then getting on a game *i'm looking at you RIFT* and being able to play a few hours a week, and capping within a few months... What happened to the days where it would take someone a year to finish a MMO? (if they ever did finish?)

I feel like any MMO I play now days (GW2 included) its almost just wasted time... whats the point in farming if I am going to be done with this game in 2 months?.. why bother making friends? or trying to do good in a guild? why?

If I'm not the first one on my server to get to cap, I don't care.. its not like I would anyways on a easier game.

If the game takes 3 years for me to finish, there will always be that guy that does it in 8 months,

if the game takes me 3 months to finish, there will be a guy who does it in 48 hours.

When do you consider your game to be finished? It's pretty vague term when it comes to MMO's.

I can't speak for RIFT but I do know thing or two about GW2 and it offers something to do for months even after hitting the level cap. Now if you like doing those is whole another thing.

I'm a level 33 Necro.

1) At what level should you really do Ascalonian Catacombs.

2) I believe you should have a full group for story mode ?

3) As with all mmo's ppl will be trying to play at way lower levels. What level should be the lowest in the group.

4) What is the best way to find a group.

5) how do you know what levels others are before you invite them ?

6) anything I should know about Ascalonian Catacombs before I go ?

7) are there any classes that are must haves ?

I have to go to work right now, so I will check this later on, thanks in advance :)

Just did it last night

1) Our group had people between 30 and 58 so yea, 33 is fine. You'll be downleveled to 30 anyway.

2) We did it with 4 so it is doable with less.

3) 30 is recommended so I wouldn't stray much from that.

4) Yell LFG message in charr starter zone. Usually plenty of people looking for groups.

5) Ask them? :)

6) You might die a few times. It is really different experience from other MMO dungeons I've done.

7) Not really, but specs should include plenty of AoE buffs and stuff like that

Simple answer: Go play something else. If you feel there is nothing more to do why play the game?

For some reason MMORPG's are a genre that must be played for years and yeeears and yeeeeeears. I never really got that. I've been playing since headstart and I'm only level 38. I'll be playing for months, maybe even years. I haven't enjoyed any game this much in a long time, or any MMO ever. But when I start feeling like I am not enjoying playing anymore I'll stop. No need to force yourself to play anymore just because it is an MMO, that is the beauty of B2P model.

The game itself offers those things that you can do at level 80, for example get a legendary weapon. That will take a nice chunk of time for anyone. But if any of those activities is not your thing there is no need to force yourself to play. Hopefully you had a good time, got yours moneysworth and might return to check out some content updates later on! :)

i've heard its real popular in china as well.and considering it aint released over there yet.they must have shitloads of accounts by now lol.

Look at the bright side; they are creating a lot of new jobs into ArenaNet customer support. Gotta be good for the economy! :D

Maybe its because the game isnt as good as you think.

Are you saying he doesn't know his own thoughts? o_O

Don't really get that.

I can't find the source but I remember reading that mobs above your level (orveterans/champions) have increased chance of dropping better loot like rare stuff and dyes.
At level 20 most of the basic things are there. Events get bigger and more meaningfull, story starts to go epic etc but all the game basics are there at level 20.

I like it. It's fun and there is depth to keep me entertained. When comparing to your usual MMO combat it's heads and shoulders above others. TERA is there too, but the game did not work for me in any other way.

Of course there are games there that require more 'skill' or whatever. But in MMO genre I've yet to find as fun and engaging combat system as GW2.

Should I even bother tagging this post with big IT'S MY OPINION - tag? :)

It has the illusion of being dull for a brief period. For the first few levels it's really fun, but you get a nagging doubt that you'll experience it all too quickly. As you get further however, you realise how tactical it becomes, how important the dodge mechanic is, and how you'll need to use both your class mechanics, different weapon options and a selection of the 30 or so non-weapon skills to be effective as it gets harder.

A few people note that on dyanmic events it can feel zergy, but as the population spreads out I'm finding they're getting far more tactical as fewer people are on hand to tackle to one with you.

I think this nails my experience. For me it has been 3 stages:

1) Wow this is all cool and all these skills and moving and stuff, awesome!

2) Hmm, I'm 15 levels in the game now, got most of my skills unlocked and seem to be going through same tactics all the time... Is this what I am going to get for the next 60 levels?

3) Ohhh, I'm level 30 now. There is actually lots of depth here. Respect.

I actually want to try GW2 but I can't on principles. I feel a game should either have a cash shop or it should charge you for the game, doing both is just wrong to me so I won't be trying it. If it just had a box price and no store I'd be in there right now trying it out.

You propably know this put still putting it out there: The cash shop is purely optinal, there is nothing you actually find expect cosmetics and bunch of boosters (which you can get as drops too). Anything in the cash shop can be bought with in game gold aswell, the exchange rate is quite reasonable aswell. I just bought a bigger bank space, some dyes and 2 extra bag slots and did not use a single real dollah to do so.

I respect your principle, just wanted to point out that cash shop is more there for those that want to support ArenaNet. Aaaand back to the topic now. :)
