Underwhelming E3 Impressions

I like the idea of saying "We won't release X till they are brought to justice".
Also, this is getting old, and making me worried about repercussions to the rest of us. |

Wouldn't Star Wars the New Republic be better?
General Discussion « Star Wars: The Old Republic 6/14/11 2:21:41 AM
I don't know. Maybe. But there is SO much stuff after the movies in the books. And I'm sure LucasArts would want them to conform to ALL the books, which would just be crazy. |

Poll : MMO hype (TSW vs. ArcheAge vs.TERA vs. Blade & Soul)

As to this, I don't know. I loveddddddddddddddddd The Longest Journey/Dreamfall. And AoC 1-20 was the best MMO experience ever. But the rest of that left such a bad taste. ArcheAge COULD be great, but I really need to see more. TERA, I've watched, but I almost get an Aion sort of game. B&S Yeah, same thing as ArcheAge.
So if I had to pick one.....HMMMMMMMMMmmmmmmmmmm. Yeah, can't choose! |

Elder Scrolls:Skyrim to be Console Game, then ported to PC.
General Gaming « General Discussion 6/09/11 10:19:18 PM
What a terrible let down. Games that are ported are just plain NEVER as good as games made for PC. Seeing as how I do not have nor will not have a PS3/Xbox, kinda sucks for me.
But, it makes perfect sense for a devoloper. More money. Thank god Bestheda is above that, unlike other companies, right? :P.
Blah, hate it hate it hate it. |

Poll: Should the SWTOR team have skipped E3 and followed GW2's lead?
General Discussion « Star Wars: The Old Republic 6/09/11 10:04:02 PM
Most complaints I see, come from people not getting a release date or very specific info.
Outside of this forum, I don't see other forums saying "I hate everything about this game, thank god gw2 is going to be our savior" like this one. Any of this silly "fallout" from the game will be completely gone when the release date is announced, or indepth details is giving about raiding/pvp/etc. |

Originally posted by GMan3 lol got'em. Also, out of all the people that "would get into open beta", how many are testing? 5%? 2%? Great, you gave a bug report that you got stuck or disconnected! You are an accomplished beta tester and should make sure to mention that on any future beta test applications. |

The game isn't bad, but it's not that good. The controls took some getting used to, especially trying to move the camera even with right click hold running. Not being able to adjust the pitch was weird. There were times when I had just casted something, and wanted to "Space" fast move away. But I just sat there. I was holding move, but I wouldn't move, thus I'd be blocking, facing the wrong way.
I like the idea behind the skills, and I do enjoy RPG coops. But I dunno. Duno if it's really worth it. |

I do feel it's a little silly to skip E3. Blizzard can skip anything they want since they have Blizzcon. GW2/ANet doesn't Have ArenaCon or anything. It's a great place for them to eek into mainstream like most games are. Oh noes, not the dreaded MAINSTREAM! I know you don't want that! And yes, GW2 is still "hyped more/rated higher" then TOR. On this site. How many others? :P. |

Does Harsh Death Penalty really make the Challenge, or does Harder Gameplay make the Challenge?
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 6/08/11 5:56:23 PM
So say a raid takes X amount of skill and has no Dealth penelty. My group of average players attempt the boss 100 times, and beat it because we wipe and instantly rez. We are pretty great! So another group does a raid that takes the same X amount of skill with a DP of credits/Small XP loss/item decay. They wipe 9 times as they form a strategy that they discuss and reform. They beat the boss on the 10th try. They are pretty great. A final group attempts the same raid boss with X skill required, but with a DP of you lose all your armor/weapons if you die. They quit the game. They are pretty great, in a different way.
When you add some sort of DP, as long as it is not extreme, you push players to improve quicker. My group would attempt a harder boss, and because wiping doesn't matter, we learn a bit slower since we have no real reason to worry about dying. Someone in the group walk in the fire and wipe us? Oh well! We instantly rez, go again, no worries. The second group is pushed to be better quicker, for the risk of losing money, xp, or their items decaying. It's not something that breaks many people, but it's another incentive to be better quicker.
There are plenty of examples you could make of this in real life. But those aren't exactly the same thing as a virtual world. As some points brought up in this thread sound very silly when compared to a fake death. What matters in relation to the game is TIME. Not money/xp/item decay, but the time spent having to make up for those things. If you are motivated by TIME to not have to work to replace what you lost to DP, it can help you improve. Sure wiping over and over is the loss of time, but it's not mulitplied by having to go out and fix your stuff/xp/get more credits. And this really does come down to opinion. YOU might feel no DP is the challenge. You might feel perma death is the best. |

Does Harsh Death Penalty really make the Challenge, or does Harder Gameplay make the Challenge?
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 6/08/11 2:12:22 AM
Originally posted by Quirhid No, Harsh DP does NOT make a challenge. But no DP won't Challenge a player to improve either. Sure, dying with no DP, you still can and have to improve somewhat to not die in a hard game. But some sort of decent DP + hard gameplay will help you improve faster, especially if you are given a chance to learn. D2 is perfect in that. You have "normal mode" with 3 difficulty settings. As you progress in the game, it becomes MUCH harder (resists, mobs doing crazy damage, etc). And the penetly rises also. More XP lost/gold. |

Why do the Jedi always look like losers in TOR videos?
General Discussion « Star Wars: The Old Republic 6/07/11 10:48:02 PM
Originally posted by Elikal I agree. The Jedi are people. And to cut ones self off from everything, emotional and otherwise isn't healthy, and often leads to terrible things, as evident by what happens to the jedi. The Jedi before Luke taking over just had this sense of "We are the peak of humanity" and nothing is worth our notice. We will overcome because we are jedi. We are powerful and all knowing, so if we don't know it, it must not be true. |
