Sounds like E3 did more harm than good for them. Sad because people expect better from a popular developer.

Well, if you wasted $60 on DA2, you'd know that Bioware isn't that god everyone thinks they are.

ME3 will probably be Bioware's last best title.

lol.

I just want to say on the UI thing.  Changing the UI/Mods are just the thing to do.  Sure, we may not see mods at release day, but eventually there will be I bet.

Guess what, WoWs UI is gone and becomes Xperl or something else you might use.  It's now a great UI.  It just makes calling any UI that can be modded a "WoW clone UI" even more silly.

I like the idea of saying "We won't release X till they are brought to justice".

Also, this is getting old, and making me worried about repercussions to the rest of us.

WoW, this thread really came together.  I enjoyed it.

I don't know.  Maybe.  But there is SO much stuff after the movies in the books.  And I'm sure LucasArts would want them to conform to ALL the books, which would just be crazy.

I feel so lonely being the sole person who is looking forward to B&S that much!

Then again, I'm probably the only person with multiple Hyung-Tae Kim artbooks and posters. :<

I guess liking this guy's art makes me an outcast from truly tasteful MMO lovers who enjoy things like TSW and Archeage more. :(

Good lord, this might as well be porn....lol.

As to this, I don't know.  I loveddddddddddddddddd The Longest Journey/Dreamfall.  And AoC 1-20 was the best MMO experience ever.  But the rest of that left such a bad taste.

ArcheAge COULD be great, but I really need to see more.

TERA, I've watched, but I almost get an Aion sort of game.

B&S Yeah, same thing as ArcheAge.

So if I had to pick one.....HMMMMMMMMMmmmmmmmmmm.  Yeah, can't choose!

ugh I guess this is one of the bad things about being in beta...

We got an extra 3 cents out of this post. SWEET!

The thing that sucks is I like Rift. Its just too dead to enjoy.

I think warriors being absolutely worthless in PvP and pretty piss poor at soloing in PvE drove a lot of potential people away. Its funny seeing no one play warriors. The game is 40% mages, 59% rogues and 1% warriors.

Hah. Drop the warrior QQ. I find myself still very competitive in PVP and topping charts in raids. Seems like a playstyle issue, friend.

LOL. Keep telling yourself that while you sit at the bottom of the Damage Done chart in every single WF. Meanwhile, myself and the other rogues and mages are not only tanking better than you in PvP(because we can outheal your pathetic dps), but doing FAR more damage.

If you think that's good for the game... you're not helping.

Uh. I sit at the top of most of the charts and I normally queue solo. When I queue with my guild we ROFLstomp and I'm always top. Warrior tanks aren't great in PvP, I'll admit, bar a build including heavy pointed Void Knight (and nerfs kinda ruined that one).

If I mentioned anything about warrior tanks being bad, being good for the game, please point it out. Otherwise, move your passion towards another thread. /Offtopic

Gosh those poor Clerics, not even a full 1% of players in WFs.  Glad I didn't play the game!

Some of the changes they have made are pretty amazing.

What a terrible let down.  Games that are ported are just plain NEVER as good as games made for PC.  Seeing as how I do not have nor will not have a PS3/Xbox, kinda sucks for me.

But, it makes perfect sense for a devoloper. More money.  Thank god Bestheda is above that, unlike other companies, right? :P.

Blah, hate it hate it hate it.

Most complaints I see, come from people not getting a release date or very specific info.

Outside of this forum, I don't see other forums saying "I hate everything about this game, thank god gw2 is going to be our savior" like this one.

Any of this silly "fallout" from the game will be completely gone when the release date is announced, or indepth details is giving about raiding/pvp/etc.

   {mod edit}

Their not asking to play for free,  just beta test it for a few days.  calm down.

You do realize you contradicted yourself in only one sentence . . . right?  By the way, thank you for proving my point.

lol got'em.   Also, out of all the people that "would get into open beta", how many are testing? 5%?  2%?  Great, you gave a bug report that you got stuck or disconnected!  You are an accomplished beta tester and should make sure to mention that on any future beta test applications.

The game isn't bad, but it's not that good.

The controls took some getting used to, especially trying to move the camera even with right click hold running.  Not being able to adjust the pitch was weird.  There were times when I had just casted something, and wanted to "Space" fast move away.  But I just sat there.  I was holding move, but I wouldn't move, thus I'd be blocking, facing the wrong way.

I like the idea behind the skills, and I do enjoy RPG coops.  But I dunno. Duno if it's really worth it.

I do feel it's a little silly to skip E3.  Blizzard can skip anything they want since they have Blizzcon.  GW2/ANet doesn't Have ArenaCon or anything.  It's a great place for them to eek into mainstream like most games are.  Oh noes, not the dreaded MAINSTREAM!  I know you don't want that!

And yes, GW2 is still "hyped more/rated higher" then TOR.  On this site.  How many others? :P.

So say a raid takes X amount of skill and has no Dealth penelty.   My group of average players attempt the boss 100 times, and beat it because we wipe and instantly rez.  We are pretty great!

So another group does a raid that takes the same X amount of skill with a DP of credits/Small XP loss/item decay.  They wipe 9 times as they form a strategy that they discuss and reform.  They beat the boss on the 10th try.  They are pretty great.

A final group attempts the same raid boss with X skill required, but with a DP of you lose all your armor/weapons if you die.  They quit the game.  They are pretty great, in a different way.

When you add some sort of DP, as long as it is not extreme, you push players to improve quicker.  My group would attempt a harder boss, and because wiping doesn't matter, we learn a bit slower since we have no real reason to worry about dying.  Someone in the group walk in the fire and wipe us? Oh well! We instantly rez, go again, no worries.

The second group is pushed to be better quicker, for the risk of losing money, xp, or their items decaying.  It's not something that breaks many people, but it's another incentive to be better quicker.

There are plenty of examples you could make of this in real life.  But those aren't exactly the same thing as a virtual world.  As some points brought up in this thread sound very silly when compared to a fake death.  What matters in relation to the game is TIME.  Not money/xp/item decay, but the time spent having to make up for those things.  If you are motivated by TIME to not have to work to replace what you lost to DP, it can help you improve.  Sure wiping over and over is the loss of time, but it's not mulitplied by having to go out and fix your stuff/xp/get more credits.

And this really does come down to opinion.  YOU might feel no DP is the challenge.  You might feel perma death is the best.

Look at all these amazing AoE skills

You zerg, you die.

A coordinated team of people that has enough power to kill a mob with AoE is enough to own a zergling army. Unless you're Kerrigan, It is very hard to lead an zergling army.

lol.

Everything else in this thread is just "blahblahblahblah" except for this.  This matters!

Difficulty = how much skill is required to avoid failure.

Penalty = what happens if you fail.

Therefore death penalty doesn't make games harder.  It just makes them more painful or inconvenient.

Thats the end of the thread right there. Harsh death penalty does not bring challenge.

No, Harsh DP does NOT make a challenge.  But no DP won't Challenge a player to improve either.

Sure, dying with no DP, you still can and have to improve somewhat to not die in a hard game.  But some sort of decent DP + hard gameplay will help you improve faster, especially if you are given a chance to learn.

D2 is perfect in that.  You have "normal mode" with 3 difficulty settings.  As you progress in the game, it becomes MUCH harder (resists, mobs doing crazy damage, etc).  And the penetly rises also.  More XP lost/gold.

Don't people say this every year?

Starts to get on my nerves. :I

schnap
There is quite a bit of difference between being the good guy and being a moron, or at least there should be.

I think Mel Brookes sumed it up quite well. >clicky<

In the immortal words of Jessica Rabbit: "I am not bad. I am just drawn that way."

I think there were other cool Jedi. Mace Windu, Kit Fisto, Kyle Katarn and many others. But what I sense is that it is more fashion of our days that people prefer "badass" characters. It is what I perceive as a Superhero Comic reader as well. In past decades there was Batman for DC and Wolverine for Marvel, and they filled the badass broken type of hero. These days, EVERY Superhero is some sort of broken character, everyone is a Wolverine and those who remain are depicted as losers. I hate that development in Superhero comics and in Sci-Fi just as well.

Where have the times gone where there were noble knights? Guys like Obi-Wan, like Superman or like Captain Picard? I want them back! I mean, it's ok to have broken heroes are dark heroes, but it seems to me the entire fictional stories have gone dark! And I just loath that. It's like every single hero has to be broken and has to go through hellish nightmares these days, and I don't like that. I just want some good guys who stand triumph without deeply scarring losses or what. Just some good old fashioned Paladin in shining armor saving the day and riding into the sunset. It just sickens me that all the story we tell today are about darkness triumphant and people being broken. I mean, what does that reveal about us humans other than we have lost hope, that we have given up ideals to be better than we are, than when our tales which used to inspire us, stopped being about some positive, something good worth fighting for?

I find that a sorry state of story-telling, because ultimately then storytelling becomes nothing but a hollow way to pass time and loses the great legacy of inspiring people! And wasn't that what we as kids felt about these stories? We saw Kirk and Picard, Luke and Han Solo and all those heroes saving the day, and we felt, man it would be cool to be such a guy making a change for good! it gave us something childish to believe in, something more than the day to day struggle of our mundane existence. And now it's all ash and dark. And who is anymore inspired by Jedi or Starfleet or Superheroes?

We both completely agree that the idea of the good guy in the white hat has fallen out of favor with the mainstream. While I like anti-heroes, or even well fleshed out villians, I am annoyed at how characters with actual integrity are treated like some mythical, or worse mockable, reject these days.

That actually wasn't my point about the Jedi. What I meant was that George Lucas and pals through piss poor story telling turned the Jedi from reserved, moralistic good guys, as we saw them in the first three films, where they were similar to masterless ronin who still stuck to their code of honor, into as we saw in the prequels, gullible inneffectual morons.

Hm. Indeed. It seems to me that Lucas doesn't like Jedi very much. The Prequel Jedi are mostly dumb and dullible indeed. The way they handled Anakin was so wrong on so many levels, the way they allowed themselves to be played in the entire 2nd triology. And KOTOR 1&2 was so much the same. Almost all Jedi Masters came off as arrogant fools, more or less. *sigh*

IMVPO the best Jedi Order was that which Luke established in the EU after the defeat of the Empire. It was less narrowminded and while it lost several times just as well, it wasn't so full of pompous fools. I just wish Jedi would have more strong positive characters, Jedi Masters who not just look like jokes.

Oh well.

I agree.  The Jedi are people.  And to cut ones self off from everything, emotional and otherwise isn't healthy, and often leads to terrible things, as evident by what happens to the jedi.

The Jedi before Luke taking over just had this sense of "We are the peak of humanity" and nothing is worth our notice.  We will overcome because we are jedi.  We are powerful and all knowing, so if we don't know it, it must not be true.
