Star Wars: The Old Republic: Verdict on the Fourth Pillar
News Discussion « General Discussion 3/28/12 1:03:48 PM
It is hard to argue that the forth piller was not well done, because it was. I just kind of wish that the other 3 had not taken such a beating to make it. House just look all kinds of weird with one huge pillar and 3 tiny ones. |

would you pa $50 a month for an MMO?
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 3/23/12 10:06:54 AM
Perhaps it has been mentioned but were there not an EQ server that charged you just that? One with increased GM events and a lot of other fluff? Just seem to remember something like that.

I think the player in your third scenario would soon be out of business! Because if he wants to sell his gems for way over market price, he also needs to BUY at way over market price to keep control of it. If he buys up anything that is undercutting him, but still at a price that most people would deem to high I for one would just milk him out of all his gold. Seeing as you can not directly buy gold for gems ( that is what I gather at least ) the gold is actually a limited supply, wereas gems are not, as long as one have real dollars in a fair amount. However, the demand for gems will be far from unlimited, meaning he will soon be sitting on more gems then the server needs in the foreseeable future, because lets face it, anyone with even a slight economic sense is going to try to milk him for gold as well, at a premium rate.

Cool site, I am impressed, that was fun! But what is this kraken club, that I can not afford with 74million of your gold? ;) Anyhow, thank you. |

BioWare Sabotaging Jedi/Sith Classes to Force People to Roll Non-Force Users?
General Discussion « Star Wars: The Old Republic 12/20/11 4:19:19 AM
Agree with OP, this was a concern in beta as well. The raving fanboy crowd, who had no idea what was talked about could not stand for "trash talk" and jumped in on the argument. Wereas those of us who actually had a character past 30, ( and it gets worse ), agreed that perhaps difficulty was ramped up a tad to high. Not for an MMO player with a couple of years under his belt, it is possible to adapt, overcome most encounter using your entire tool box. But, I just do not see the WoW crowd doing that, some of them of course. I kind of liked it to be honest, at times, hated it at times, I did not at all feel like a hero sneeking around mobs because any encounter, any trash group with 2 silvers in them, could actually send me to the morgue if they caught me unprepared. There was a sence of achievment though once the job was done! And its not like this is a 150 MILLION dollar production or anything, so they can freely adopt the "like it or beat it" approach. Wich is nice.
Benedict 33 Commando Chuundar EU
PS. I would very much like to see the trashtalking people in this thread come back once they have a char in the mid 30's and stand by what they said, if they can be honest about it, allthough I realise that the most powerful tool in the fanboy toolbox is the ability to lie to yourself, please try? What is Henrik Nystroms salary/benifits/stock options ?
General Discussion « Mortal Online 11/07/11 4:13:40 PM
The answer is no, it is not a secret.. ;) Anyone who pays tax in sweden have their total taxable income being public. Allthough it is not only his salary from SV, but any other moneys he have earned, that he have payed tax on. You can only conclude it is not more then that. And no, I am not going to pay ratsit, nor am I going down to the library to check it out, I just do not care enough. Or the swedish version of IRS, the information is available there as well. And yes he is a CEO, but in a very small company, who seems to not be making any real money at all. Had it been a construction company for example it would have been bancrupt a long time ago. Starvault isnt even a medium sized company, it is a small one, my local pub has more employees, and they certainly make a lot more money. |

They are the only annuals available. The post was about wether or not the info was available, the annuals are the only ones you are legally enforced to disclose. 2011 annuals will not be publicly available until march 2012. That is why. Irelevant or not.

What is Henrik Nystroms salary/benifits/stock options ?
General Discussion « Mortal Online 11/07/11 2:04:54 PM
Well, he cant make more then what is listed under salaries, that is about 4M swedish, or about 800k dollars or. Combined between 17 employees. The company went negative for 2010, so no profits from shares. Unless someone else, from outside the company, pays him money, I really dont see how he can make more then 100k a year, and I really really doubt that, closer to 50. All bonuses and whatnot combined. The net income of the company was 5M, again, 17 employees, among them 4 other board members. Unless he can somehow magically conjure money, to give to himself, I dont really see how he can make all that much. And if he can, then what the hell is he doing running a small gaming company in sweden? Net worth of the company was 13M, of which he actually owns 58%, 58% of the votes that is, probably not 58% of its worth. Almost none of that is "real" money though. And bonuses are combined under salaries, just dont say how much of that sum is actually one or the other. So, salaries and bonuses, about 4M, and they still have to pay whoever else works there. No options, he allready owns the entire company, however it is not impossible, probable more like it, that he himself is giving his employees options on his stock. I get that you really want him to be rolling in dirty money, I just do not think that is the case.. ;) |

It is free, just not so readily available online, or at all. However, any public company in sweden, like in most other countries are required to publicly announce the company's annual balance sheet. And for starvault! Balance sheetAll in swedish, divide any sum with about 6 to get an approx in dollars, tkr means thousand swedish crowns. Also a lot of other info there if you want to babelfish it.. ;) That is for 2010, 2011 will be available around march 2012. Board combined salary was 600k swedish, or about 100k dollars, there are 5 board members. ( as in 100k divided by 5, not 100k each ) I assume they have other jobs within the company as well for which they get paid. To be honest, no one at that company seems to be all that well paid, not even the board. Considering total wages and the amount of people they have. |

Not at all impossible, every person in sweden who pays tax is registered in our "taxeringskalender". Or Taxation calendar, for a crude translation. As said, ratsit.se among others have that info online, for a price. Taxeringskalendern however is only published in paperback, one for each county in sweden. Any library in said county have a copy of at least their own calendar. Just having the name "Henrick Nyström" as info though may not be all that much to go on, county and approximate age will really help. Published in that is your TAXED income, meaning the sum of money you have had as a base for how much tax you pay. That sum is after any deduction you have made and may not be all that indicative of how much you have actually earned. I dont really care what he makes, dont even know who he is, so I wont bother, but if you want the info, it is there.

I often see the "risk VS reward" argument in debates like this. But rarely is the hunter at any risk at all, wereas the hunted never see any reward. And even if caught by an anti-pk gang, there is still little risk, even with full loot, these people rarely run around doing their evil deeds in bazzillion gold equipment, they have 5 complete, cheap, sets in the bank, tailored for the task. Give it REAL consequences to be an evil bastard, once caught, and you are different ways into "red", ( ie flagged as a pk ), you go to jail, or are hanged, permanently! As most MMO use the 90 minute or so day system, a one year sentence, for a murder for example, is one year in game time for that character, as in unplyable for two weeks, well playable in an 8 by 8 foot room, with a hole in the ground! Enough crimes in your bag, public hanging and perma death! Much like in real life there is freedom, you can pretty much do whatever the hell you want, until you get caught. An FFA full loot mmo with a system like that could be really interesting. |

I just got a "revisit" offer to anarchy online, when checking the funcom store for AO I found this in the large package. "TSW Beta spot, when it becomes available!" Now it is 95euro. But it is 12 months of AO, ( that i may or may not use ). Some other AO fluff and whatnot.
But, this is funcom and to quote Frodo: "There is no promise that you can make that I can trust!"

Originally posted by Jimmac It does, but as EVE damage calculations seems to be extremely complex I am not sure it they are actually going beyond the damage range of that particular weapon. Even so, the system I suggest would make even the Velator, ( noob ship ), able to take down anything, if you go at it long enough. Say 5% chance tops to score a crit, 5% again to crit that crit and so on, in essence the damage potential is endless. If you shoot for a century or two you will at some time do millions of damage, in one shot! Introducing an aspect of uncertainty could be good. |

Sorry for the bait title. Assuming this has been discussed before, even though I could not find it, this could be a solution to the current supercap issue EVE have at the moment. Not an EVE subscriber anymore, but I still follow the politics and above all forum drama this game brings, and it is second to none, they should charge for reading their forums to be honest, it is just that much fun. On to topic! Critical hits is missing in EVE, I suggest the following system. Base Critical chance based on tracking speed. Skill that increases crit chance by say 0.1% per level. May seem low but here is why. Ability to crit a crit, if a crit is 10 times the damage, you get to "roll" again, increasing that by another factor of 10, until you fail your roll! Frigate hitting for 50 with blasters ( and yes I do not know the actual numbers anymore for damage output ), a crit would hit for 500, before resists, and if you crit you get another roll, making that roll would multiply that number yet again with 10, or whatever number, in this example 5000. Still not enough to make a dent in a BS with good resists. But, once in a million or so an actual frigate could potentially take out a cap, supercap, or titan in one blow! Need I say Luke Skywalker blowing up the death star? Tracking modules/implants/skills would effect this, even introduce a new set of implants and as said skills to directly effect percent of crit. Still needs to be very very low, as in a crazy maxed out ship+character reaching 5% or so. Still, once in a blue moon, or per era or whatever, it should be possible for one single hero, to alter the fate of the galaxy! Ideas? |

I am pro gun control, but would the norwegian disaster have happened in the US?
Religion & Politics « General Discussion 7/28/11 1:01:28 PM
From Sweden, very close to norway, and one of the countries with the most strict gun control laws on te planet, I just have to ask the question. Fact is this lunatic went on a hour and a half killing spree, I am unsure if this island has residents, residents with weapons them self? As a member of the community who has acess to guns I just can not refrain to ask the question, why the hell did not anyone step up? Now trust me, Sweden is a fucked up country, had I personally been in a position to end this horror early, and shot this fucker early on I would still have been held accountible ( sp ) and probably had my licenses removed. Regardless! It would have been worth it no doubth, and to be honest I would have lost my entire hobby to save one of these people, in a hearth beat! But I am prone to concede that the fact that gun control stops the people who has an honest interest, it does nothing to stop the people who actually wants these things. ( for legal reasons ). To phrase an ancient proverb, in a world were guns are criminal, only criminals have guns. Why I am asking? You really want more law abiding citizens with armory then the opposite? The madman will get what he wants, regardless. Removing any part of self defence will make us all victims! Laws only apply to the people who are inclined to follow them. On the other hand, if you are following the law you are a victim to them who do not! ( Sorry people, I am drunk and mad as friggin hell, apologize for any spelling or grammatical errors. ) |

Would this not be the perfect time for a new server?
Jita (General) « EVE Online 7/01/11 12:48:33 PM
An exhange server, much like EQ2? Go friggin nuts on it with item shops, sell titans, stations in nullzec, whatever. Lets face it, there is the 0.0 crowd, they play the game competetively, and they have the resources to not ever need RMT. Then there is financial moguls, they play EVE like a bussiness simulator, ( allthough quite often these are part of the nullzec crowd as well ), and they CERTAINLY do not need an RMT market. And then there is the rest, the casual EVE player, allthough by most MMO standards the casual EVE player is fairly hardcore. These are often nothing more then pawns for the industrialists, so they can competetively supply the nullzecs with gear. The missions runners, the miners, the small bussiness owners, whatever, who much like in real life gets fleeced by the major corporations. But in reality, the people who run the EVE universe, ( and I do not mean the DEV's here ), could survive without the small folk. Why not then start a new server? IF nothing else for the simple fact of shutting up the "you can never catch up crowd". Hell, even let people migrate their chars from TQ with a % of SP, at a huge cost, and judging from the monocle thing, huge for CCP is like NINE THOUSAND dollars! Let this new server be ALL about greed, from both the company and the players. Even make it like Entropia, were you can trade in your AUR for real life money again, and make the AUR a currency on the actual market, but the only influx of AUR should be from CCP, that way they do not need bothering what the AUR to ISK ratio is, you can only turn in AUR that you, or preferably, someone else, have purchased. To be honest I find that to be an interesting economics experiment. Oh, and remove PLEX's from TQ as well then, and go friggin nuts on the EVE RMT sites and players, ban them all! Let TQ be competetive, and make a place for casuals at the same time? To me EVE is a LOT about gaining resources, they day I traded my first PLEX the game died, honestly. At the time a PLEX was something like 300m or so, an amount that with my then 10M or so SP char would take many days to aquire, weeks even, but it would take me less then 30 minutes of RL time to earn enough to buy a PLEX. And seeing as ISK, along side with SP are you "levels", I quickly found myself wondering what the hell I was doing. Any goal that I had, affording a new BS, modules, implants turned to dust. Now I know they are kind of saying there will be no P2W items, but that is just sprinkled fairy dust before our eyes, the amount of potential money from that would make any bussiness man jizz, and any man know that in and around that time we do not make the most intelligent decisions! Then why not go all out? Keep the cake and eat it to! Now I sort of realise that removing all the high sec casuals from TQ would probably kill the server, as would the exodus of all the really hardcore players. But why not fool around when we are about to go down? ( no pun intended, well some but hey! ). New EVE server, yes or no? ( I will add in another option of a new server with old ruleset, as I have always wondered )
And pardon, I am almost up to a pint of jaegermeister by now, so spelling and grammar? Not going to happen! |

Why can not themepark and sandbox meet?
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 6/01/11 2:32:30 PM
Honestly, I see no reason why a game can not be both. Take your ultimate on-rail themepark game like wow or rift, and just latch on all our favourite sandbox elements. Housing. Craftable everything. Everything drops, from anything. ( of the appropriate level ) No bloody bind on pickup, I really hate even bind on equip but I also see why this one is needed. FFA pvp, with loot, in certain areas. Now let me explain. Easiest route to awesome items, raids, both for items and extremely rare crafting materials. Now, any mob can drop anything, but lets up the ante. Mobs in FFA PvP areas have a lot higher chance of dropping items, resource nodes in the same area has a much higher chance of giving very rare crafting materials. Even more so, anything you have gained in an PvP area is up for loot, you get killed they can take it, to make it even more interesting up the drop rate the farther you get into these areas, or the farther you get from a safe town. But, any mob, anywere in the game, of the appropriate level, can drop everything! Just your chances as a carebear is a lot lower. As a sandbox player, I value items that have a lasting value more then anything. Let us be honest, gear goes obsolete come next patch. For example, the one thing in WoW I really like is my zulian tiger, all my HC crap purples is going extinct come the next patch, but stuff like that stays with you. Same with housing, if you have played EQII you know what I am talking about. Allthough not a sandbox by any stretch. But you can start today, be raid ready in a month or two and sporting all fables in another month. ( same with WoW really ) But, I have completed every heritage quest, most of any quest that gives you a housing item, and then some. If you want that stuff, you will have to work for it, regardless of level, but YOU CAN STILL GET IT! EVE is a somewhat good example of this and come incarna we might see more of it, but I am ittle scared with the item mall approach EVE is taking with the fluff items, but none the less. I like my achievments, and yes I played WoW, but the fact that any moron now can go and get "bane of the fallen king" while sleeping is not cool. ( Not that it was so much of an achievment with 30+ everything ).
By all means, give the super epics to the raid crowd, first. But take a Diablo II approach to every item in the game. In my possibly 5k+ hours of diablo I have seen something like 6 high runes, spread over I think 9 ladder resets. Yes a full runeword made you a god, but anyone can get it, what is wrong with that?
Give the crazy PvP crowd what hey want, battle over resources or an easy gank. Give the raid crowd what they want, first thouch at everything, and by all means titltes that mean something. Give the RP crowd what they want, proof that they contributed to any of the above!
Again take EVE as an example, EVE vould NEVER function without thousands of noobs mining veldspar, or any of the high sec minerals, not counting the drone alliances who are about to destroy this game, but that is another story. Fuck, give the engines, or at least cogwheels, of EVE, some cred. Doubt any of you have ever heard of Horizons, now called Istaria, I think. Well they had community projects, much like EVE, to change the world, dead now but the idea was awseome!
To sum it up: I do not mind if powerful alliances get thier loot before me! I do not mind if a powerful person, or alliance, steals my stuff when I greedily ventured to a place I should not have been. Give the RP crowd the ability to change the world. ( if only for themself ) Give the PvP crowd the power to dictate terms, at least for other PvP teams! Any noob could stumble upon the most powerful item ever!
Much like the ring of power!

Both our quesion pretty much are, could any MMO without a rail and clear objectives make it today? I HATE the themepark questing line, LVL crap and whatnot. Even so, would I accept a game like AC today, with todays graphics? I am not sure. Dudes, we had fun, a lot of it, and there were NO quests!
