Account names need to be unique, character names do not.  We accept that there are millions of Joe's in the world but there can only be one in the game?  Unique names should be due to cleverness not due to creating it first on the server.

This should be true for all games.  So what if there are 200 Kenny's on your server... gives you all the more incentive to make it stand out in terms of gear, appearance, achievements, titles, or whatnot.

Agree more then full with you, this should be in any game. And allow multi word names, etc.

The year was 2009. Our guild was doing one of the easy and short raids. I don't remember which. A dps needed to leave and we are stuck a man short. I ask my warlock brother, who was also online but not part of the guild, to join in. He agrees.

Pull is delayed because he hasn't buffed up. Raid leader asks for a soul well so everyone can get a cookie. He asks, "What's a soul well?"

After some questions (luckily before the pull), we found out that even though he has a max level toon he has NEVER been in a group. He leveled from 1 - max using three spells. This is truth. Also, this was his main toon. One of 5 max level toons he had.

I hope that answers your question.

It does not not because PVE game play for leveling has NOTHING to do at all with raiding or end game. Nor has to do with soulwell. Wow is easy actually NOW when have been played for decade. And it is easy for OLD players. But yes, have been made SOLO FRIENDLY. And really love that. Would be impossible physically find enough of players for that incredible was world with all expansions for enforced group play. Which I deeply hate. I'm playing as many wow exactly for what it is. I have 21 maxed out alts, 1 will become before WOD. All my alliance alts are leveled to max before ever touching any instance. End game is left for ... well ... endgame, after I will be done enjoying leveling with questing. With horde however have been doing a lot of 5 man I admit. It was easy doing instances? Well, depend. If some raid ready tank join group of course is just run through. As there is low limit for equpiment there sould be upper limit. That is only part that is wrong with wow.

Btw ... any1 checked his gear before start?

Fact is I would be still playing Wildstar if not for that incredibly silly 1 toolbar limit. Hate button mashers. And 1 toolbar can spell and it is spelling only that. Not sure how many are like me, but otherwise like the game. But there is no long term future for me with Wildstar so I left. Like I did with TSW.

There is only one reason I can think of to lock a machine to 30 fps when said machine can go up to 60 and that is to make it appear as if PCs are not any better than consoles.

1080p at 30fps is a flat out joke for 2014 period...full stop...

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2014-08-26-the-crew-has-artificial-30fps-lock-on-pc

And for what use is having more then 30? You can have 300 or 3000 your eye will not notice any difference or at least very hardly.

Your accusation that game companies would intentionaly try to rip off their customers for $150 is ludicrous.

No game company would do this - as it's a loss of revenue (chargeback fees) and a loss of customer - also it's completely illegal.

....

Exactly.  Never had and problem ever. Well, but with Aion. There I was simply unable to cancel my sub, contacted support several times .... never got any response .... at the end have been forced to change my credit card revoking old one to make them stop sucking my money. And as I remember many had similar experience at that time.

wow. that is telling..

well I still hold the position that its the mostly the art style choice that has made most gamers not interested but in all fairness I said the same thing about WoW

It's not the art style that killed it for me. It was the boring grind.

While leveling no need to grind, enough of quests and pretty fun available ... what killed game for me is that 1 toolbar. Same - and only - reason I left permanently also TSW.

One advice to every one in this game: I've NEVER been hacked in any other games i played, and i'm a veteran player of mmo's.

In this game, i got hacked not ONCE but TWICE.

At the first time, support restored my itens and gold, but, at the second time that i got hacked, i got this response:

"As previously stated, we cannot perform a second restoration. The reason is because it will negative impact the economy of the game."

Now, i payed for the game, played the game, and now i have to quit the game because of the lack of security that this company offers to custommers.

How can i still playing this game, work to get money and itens again and be hacked for the third time ina few weeks?

The funny thing is that the company can't even defend itself and players from hacks, but is careful about the "impact in the economy of the game".

Thanks Arenanet, the WORST custommers service that i ever saw.

Did you have ip check / email verification enabled?

It's simply not possible for someone to hack you with this enabled unless they hacked your email too.

Excactly. I never got hacked in any game, nor in Gw2. However I'm using Safe in Cloud to hold very compley passwords and whenever possible or available, various authenticators.

Remove that silly button mashing 1 toolbar limit and I will be back. Love all there rest but that is simply to much. If I would like to play button mashers would stick with console games.

I haven't seen any numbers that support the idea that there are less people playing mmos. There are a ton of game people are playing. I guess what you are saying is YOU can't find a game you like (how sad) therefore the industry is in a steady decline. (OMG the end of the world!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

Exactly. Actually never so many played games as nowadays and never have been so many MMO out there.

To OP, problem are more PLAYERS then developers. No matter how much time developers put into incredible questing, a lot of players just rush to end to do ... WHAT??? Same dungeons over and over and over again? On the other side I'm kind of player that love questing. With all my alts. And only then I will consider engaging "end game".
Love Swtor, currently 2nd after only Wow ... but, please, give us some TRUE expansion!!! Something with new worlds, new levels, new story telling, .... Not some kind of pvp fill up, I could not care less. Sure, is much easier to program, but ..... Have leveled all alts and as it looks now will return only with new expansion. For next year I will be busy with Wow and Rift, then will see. Very disappointed with expansions that can be considered in best case stronger patch.

Well well, 9+ months without new content, people leaving the game by the thousands and we get a subscription price increase....

I am lost for words so I will just ask you guys to say something about this.

ps: Notice how it is now more expensive to buy a 60 day game time card than to pay two months individually! WTF

Wow is only game I would pay even double that ammount for month.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sunk_cost_fallacy

http://www.lifehack.org/articles/communication/how-the-sunk-cost-fallacy-makes-you-act-stupid.html

IMO the reasons vast majority of the reason people still pay the game as much as they do is 3 fold:

70% - Sunk cost.  People have invested hundreds or thousands of hours and don't want to feel like they've wasted that time:

20% - Lack of anything else worth playing out there

10% - Popularity.  Some people just want to be part of the group, so to speak.

Now, i'm not suggesting EVERY person playing the game is part of this group.  But i think its a significant majority.  I'm sure there's a few hundred thousand playing it who are honestly, truly enjoying it and having fun, but i think probably 80% or better are just falling victim to the above listed reasons.

Wow is simply most FUN game to play, most complex, most polished, .... So I'm staying until there will be any Wow expansion made. Still even if I love pizza, I can not eat pizza for 10 years, every day, 5 times per day. I need change from time to time before returning with fresh wish to my favorite food. So far as long I have Wow and Swtor (and now rediscovered Rift) all my gaming needs for years to come are covered.

Could not agree LESS with OP then I do. What hardcore?? Game is hardcore as ANY new game I have played.

Btw, loved lore, a lot of hidden jewels, action combat, .... but still I'm out after 2 months and I'm afraid I'm not returning, at least not for long time. There are 2 main reasons. 1.) impossible lag, just unacceptable. If I can run completely fluidly Rift, Gw2, Wow, Swtor, .. just to mention few on very high settings, I can barely move in crowded areas in WS. Fps from 10 to 0 in Thayd. Laggy, laggy, laggy,... Improved in this time but was never back to beta levels where lag was nearly absent. Not sure what they did. And ... yessss ... I know, many do not have any lag, but MANY still do. And I do not care, my computer is not problem. 2) that impossible button mashing decision to have only 1 toolbar. For this sole reason left TSW and happend to WS also. And until this is removed I'm not planning at all to return even if they fix lag issue. And I'm sorry, because loved game, cartoony look, humour, ...

It will never bring in new players as it once did there is far too much competition these days . I'm sure there will be new players though because its a very appealing game to children and its a good starter mmo .

The over all trend will continue to be downward I suspect .

It does and it will. Just live with fact Wow is still best MMO out there for majority of players. Said this I'm kind of player that can rarely play one game for eternity. Still can immagine to play Wow for next 10 or 20 years with pauses. Only difference now and maybe 5 years ago is at that time was only Wow worth investing time, subbing, .... I have been playing many other games, but rarely any was able to keep me for more then 2 or 3 months, while I could play Wow for full year. Only reason I'm currently not subbed (but purchased of course long ago WoD) is because of Rift and Swtor. My gaming time is split by this 3 games and as long as they produce expansions, will stay that way. With WoD out I will forget by all other games for at least half year, then guess back to Rift or Swtor. Or maybe some other filler up.

Doesn't matter what combat system a game uses... nobody is going to play any of the new games for more than a month before switching games.  They don't care to spend all their time playing one game anymore.

Not really. Depend on game.

I already know from past experience I will stick with WOD for at least good half year (and will return many times for few months at a time before next expansion is released). Same with Swtor. Same or very close to with Rift.

Left ARR before month for other reasons, left Wildstar and TSW after about 2 months for sole reason of that dumb limited 1 active toolbar decision.

I return from time to time to AoC, CO, Lotro, ... but here I agree with you, they are no longer able to keep me in more then 1 month or so.

Btw, do not confuse ACTION combat with tab targeting ABSENCE.

Agree fully. I see F2P as killer of good gaming. Should be banned by law. Mainly because it is NEVER actually free. If you wan't to play decently such games, you spend a lot of money. Company that is unable to create game that would make money from subs should switch to another area.

and I do mean that. take a look at this for at least 2 minutes https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tS6oojD8Km4

competition is human nature. It's a sport, some people prefer to play that in a virtual world.

Ha, ha, ha, ... could not care less for PvP then i currently do, but Wow is best game ever for PVE content, complexity, ... etc ... But for sure as I hear has one of best PvP content and integration into PVE. But would not know from 1st person experience.

I was a huge fan of GW1, so I keep trying GW2 in the hope that it will eventually 'click'.

To me GW1 was one of the most innovative and unique games ever made.  In the WOW era it was heavily

To me Gw1 was one of worst craps out there (and not only for being unable to simply JUMP(!!!) in game that is MMO and not some prehistorical 2D single player game). Gw2 was and it is a blast. But for that experiment with heart quests, dynamic random events, .... Sole reason I left. If they would implement classic questing and progression Gw2 would be for me one of  best games ever for money I spent.

Quit WoW because I disliked the direction they went with dumbing down the Talent Trees and 180 degree about face on what the original Archeology.

Agre, terrible decision. But maybe no other option when you have behind so many levels and expansion packs. Would still prefer investing every level some point somewhere then waiting for 15 levels.

Still ... this was for sure not enough of reason to stop play my best game ever of all times. :-) Barely can wait for WOD, as usually will take vacation. :-)

Quit SWTOR because I beat the game (really nothing more then single player games at launch) on 4 different classes.

Well ... same hare except did that for both epire as alliance, 8 maxed outs. :-) Other 8 waiting to, many close at least to lv. 50, some above. Still stopped to play for now as i miss TRUE expansion and not "digital expansions" that are worth as regular service packs in other games.

Quit GW2 because the developers lied about what the world and dynamic quests were going to be like and the lack of a gear grind.  Nothing of incentive to shoot for except for cosmetic upgrades.  Not my cup of tea.

Lost interest exactly because of hearts questing, boring so called dynamic events, ... etc. Otherwise love everything else in game if they would just opt at start for CLASSIC questing and progression ... would still be playing now.

Quit Neverwinter because my Guild disbanded and disliked the monetization techniques employed.

Quit Wildstar because the game was more of the same, WoW in space, WoW clone...blah blah blah.  So tired of grinding quests with no meaning other then to progress.

Left mainly for that 1 button mashing toolbar. Ok, also deeply hate "press F" mini games, remember colors minigames ... if not for addons that solves this problem, would left at very start after discovering that. Fortunately addons can put all this in automatic.

Same problem with button mashing 1 toolbar happend to TSW. Left also for sole that reason.

I they would remove that silly limitation, I would gladly return. Unfortunatly nothing points in that direction so both Wildstar and TSW are past for me.

LOTRO need comple graphic redo from scratch. This time with some physics please.

ARR. Not sure, maybe after reading forums will return some day. But now have better things to test. Original release was my worst disappointment of my life (being FF fan). ARR was much better ... up to lv. 18 or something. Then free fall.

So far regularly playing Wow and Swtor and can easily immagine to play them after 10 or 20 years with expansion packs of course.

For the rest I'm enjoying a lot my rediscovered Rift, currently would put on 3rd place (where was before Gw2 for some time), still from time to time I return to AoC, CO, .....
