To be honest, there's really no point in hyping or un-hyping a game unless it is in a state of being a marketable product.

It's way too easy to earn gold now in WoW esp by doing the daily quest. There's simply no point in buying virtual gold for WoW ..you'll only get yourself banned from the game.

I think both options should be open instead of restricting it to one or the other.

I've played both. Played WoW for 3 years and currently playing LOTRO. My opinion is both are good games and each has features that are fun and caters to different types of players.

WoW
* All dungeons are instanced (5, 10, 20, 40 man dungeons).
* Possilble to solo 1-70 (but painful) without doing any quest altho the game is heavily quest/tasks oriented
* Possible open PvP in contested lands in PvP server. Altho there's open pvp in the world, most people opt to use the battlegrounds (or BG) which is pvp in an instanced enclosed area.
* Caters to all player types: casual pve, mid-hardcore pve, hardcore pve, casual and hardcore pvper
* Very loot oriented game. Players of same level with high level epic pvp or pve gear will trounce players with "casual gear".
* PvE Faction grind is a must to acquire good gear for most circumstances.
* PvP grind is a must to acquire good gear for most pvp circumstances. Esp if you are participating in the Arenas/BGs
* End-game 24 man raiding play is available as a hardcore option. Casual end-game is also available via the 10 man dungeons.
* Crafting in WoW is pretty much: Gather Ingredient, Combine, Grind till reach next Tier. Most of the good player gear will derive from dungeons, raids, pvp and *rarely* from quests, crafted or random drops.
* World feels small (altho some areas are huge), most areas are enclosed within a certain level range. Exploration is possible altho somewhat limited.

LOTRO
* Mix of instanced and world dungeons.
* Possible to solo 1-50 but best if played with friends in a party.
* PvP is enclosed in Ettinmoor or via Monsterplayer, a unique form of pvp where players can pvp with players playing monster characters.
* Caters to many player types. But seends to cater most to casual players.
* Not very loot oriented game.
* Minimal PvE faction grind altho it exist in a limited form.
* PvP grind is limited in the form of Destiny point grind.
* Raiding exist as a form of end-game activity altho it's not a MUST.
* Crafting in LOTRO is interesting and the actually useful. Player gear can be acquired via drops, boss raids, dungeons, and mostly quested and crafted.
* World feels huge, travel is limited to walking/stable/mounts (there's no freely available teleportation spells in the game). Lots of opportunities to explore. In fact there's an in-game feature that rewards exploration.

Yeah back when the game started in Feb 2007 there were no soloable quest around level 40..every quest past 40 was group-required quest.. it's good they added a ton of solo quest for the last 10 levels. Back then minstrels were healbots and you can't solo well at all (can barely beat a 1 on 1 fight with a level 30-35 mob non-elite) but I'm glad they gave minstrels some better offensive abilities.

Being a CEO/COO is tough since you're practically the one that is (leadership) on the helm of the ship (the company). You need to be able to decide what's best for the company and if the company flounder's its your head that's gonna roll. A CEO looks to have high net worth due to their stock options.. if the company they are handling is huge (like any publicly traded company) then their networth is proportional to their stock option value.

Can someone help me out.   Give me a little info. Update me on that. The whole shabang. 'Cause i'm a noob and i don't really now much. And can the nooby slayers go easy. I'm not that tough. yeah.

Don't worry about the ranks and stuff. The stars merely indicate how active a person is in the forums.. 5 stars means very active (probably at least 1 or more post every day). The stars goes down when you are not active (like taking a vacation for a week or so). This system is there to prevent people from spamming the user rating system with multiple accounts.

China targets Internet in Crime Sweep

Basically by closing down a lot of underground (unregistered) internet cafes or what they called black web bars.. it's gonna: 1.) reduce illegal criminal operations 2.) reduce trauancy. These so called back web bars are a place where a lot of MMOs are being played. That means MMO subscription* (we'll use that term loosely here) in china would probably be affected too.

*It doesn't matter if the game has a monthly subscription bill or runs thru microtransactions/item mall as long as the customers are playing/paying its considered a subscription.

World of Warcraft but with nipples  j/k

Seriously, it's gonna be a decently wonderful game with a lot of wanton violence and mutilations and the pvp will depend on player skill (FPS) instead of just target and press a button. Personally I'm waiting for Warhammer online coz I like cartoonish graphics and fake violence and crying WARRRGGH!.. but that's just me.

Could you please explain in your professional opinion why you consider Darkfall will never release in your lifetime?

And If you have any insider information from the industry could you possibly disclose it in the interest of us poor uninformed members of the public.

The game has been in development since 2001. It takes a lot of money to publish a game as well as developing one. I have no doubt there's an alpha build of the game somewhere but making a final marketable product is way more difficult. A lot of games that were never published went this way before and it would be a miracle for Darkfall to be published.

Thanks Ponico,

I'm actually fairly surprised with the responses I have  gotten here. Not about the game, i know it is gonna do alright -- BUT my reception has just been great. So far I have been called a Legend, compared to  Lord British or Robert Sirotek did before they went to the dark side. Really, anymore and my head will explode.

It might be important to note why I act more like an informed fan then a CEO.  One of my earliest roles in the game industry was Editor on a Stratics.com portal. ( I was also a backup writer here to, but the management never gave me an assignment  )

So at this time they had awards for EQ & UO community managers. Really, i think there was like 5 MMOs at the time. They had a little quote introducing the award.  It always stuck with me:

The community relations person should be up to date, reliable and responsible for there never being anything out that shouldn't be out. Gamers should be informed or able to reach reliable and official information through simple and robust channels, instead of having to read through a load of crap. We're just getting started – the panel is getting very excited, and threats of removing half their rations of carbonated soft drinks are almost not enough. ‘How about the personal touch?', I ask my imagined gamers. In their opinion, every copy of the game should come with a personal, ready-to-move-in-and-eat-pizza-boxes representative of the company. While this might not be entirely realistic, some kind of personal contact would be nice. A sense of humour always helps, and rapid replies to support requests do too.

-Stratics.com

Ya I wish it was more epic too, but regardless it works for me.  Another factor, that I am a fan rather than a CEO  maybe cause  that I am only 24  *Shrug*  In any case thanks for the kind words, I look forward to seeing you in the Zyon community

This looks great, I like MMO companies run by knowledgeable gamers instead of number crunchers in suits that probably have not even played a single video games in their whole life. I totally agree microtransaction based games (item mall/ad supported games) will be the future of MMOs. It's an emerging market and one that looks like it's gonna be huge in the next few years. I'm looking forward to seeing interesting new titles coming out from your company (like Secret, Childhood <-- interesting title).

I think the near future market scenario will be that subscription based and microtransaction based games will run both side by side each with their own consumer base.

Most fun pvp was when about 30 or so of us alliance stormed Ogrimmar and held the horde Auction House hostage for a good 3 hours denying the horde the use of their auction house (by killing the auctioneer npc as soon as they spawn) until people got bored and left. The AH in ogrimmar is a great place to hold a defensive position for a long time due to the narrow entrance without any other exit/entrance points. Also it doesn't trigger the infinite city guard zerg when you kill an important npc, altho there are guard respawns they are few. Also we're practically surrounded by hundreds of players outside but since they can't enter the AH without 1.) lagging to death 2.) getting picked off one by one. 3.) getting instant killed from concentrated fire. This is kinda like the battle of thermopylae where choke point was used to battle a larger force. Another reason is probably the way line of sight targetting works in WoW, you can see those outside easier than those outside can see inside a room.

I have a level 25 minstrel before I quit a year ago. I quit because I got frustrated playing a minstrel and trying to solo a quest (solo quest mind you) is frustrating due to lack of offensive power for the class. How is the class nowadays ? I heard they gave minstrels more offensive power from builds. Is there much improvement or will it be the same?

This is pretty much a standard scam in MMO and people still fall for it. Note: A game company DOES NOT need your password to verify an account, in fact any game company asking for your password is assuredly 100% scam.
