Will LoTR be the game I am looking for?
General Discussion « Lord of the Rings Online 4/29/08 8:19:40 AM
Too bad about brandywine...thought about that when you said you got an email from codemasters (they are the EU distributors) Don't know if you read this in the book or not, but Kinships are guilds and Fellowships are groups. Im a champion and haven't really had any problem soloing. From what I hear each class can solo pretty well. Each race has their own starter instance and prologue to the story. It starts out has a small instance, then puts you in a starter area that is seperate from the big world. Once you hit 5 or6 depending on when you finish the prologue you will enter a larger instance to finish it. And then will be in the full world. All of the races prologues are different and really cool. You should check them all out at some point. Also unlike wow you get rest experience anytime you logout, you dont have to go to an inn or city. Also there is a thread in the Turbine forums where people write about the details turbine put into this game from the books, from the biggest to the most obscure. Its a great read if you like the books and th elore. Check it out http://forums.lotro.com/showthread.php?t=80048 The monster play starts once you hit level 10 with your regular char. Then it onlocks it on the char selection screen. You can choose form like 6 or 7 monsters (creep)to play as. This is in a specific zone where only this occurs. You are lvl 50 and players (freeps) can only enter this area when the hit lvl 40. As a monster yo can do quests to earn destiny points that you can trade in for new skills and upgrades. The destiny points you get on your freeps or creeps is carried over your whole account. On your freep you can use these things for temp buffs like armor heatlth speed or like dbl exp. There is also something called session play where you can play a troll (creep) or ranger (freep) for 1hr every 24hrs. These are like elite mobs that are really hard to kill. There can only be 2 of them oat a time per server, but it makes things pretty interesting. It's pretty cool check it out.
Anyway glad to see you are gonna try it out! Have fun! |

I say you should come back. It is a great game and I have never been nored, especially with fishing now. Easy to get groups and ive played for 3 mo. and have only had 1 tell from a gold spammer. This game is great! |

Agreed! Though I would love to do the lifetime plan. I decided change to the 9.99/ mo plan. (29.99 every 3 mo.) |

Cool. I know there is an unofficial RP server people talk about but don't know what that one is. Brandywine is one of the biggest I hear though so there will be ppl to have fun with. Yeah look me up, remember the name is Tyndum. When you make your char tell me on here too. Cant remember if you can msg on trial. Unless you are on their friend list. |

With the LOTRO Book 13 update that is live today will make grouping for quests and instances much easier as you can see what people ae on and find them much easier. |

Try Lord of the Rings Online. They just extended their trial period to 14 days from 7. It's a great game and has all the things you are looking for. If you want a pet class, the Lore-Master has a pet that attacks. Try it out, I don't think you will be dissapointed. |

Looking for a great game to play? There is a 14 day trial now instead of the usual 7day.
Check it out if you haven't yet. |

Originally posted by bonzoso21 Im sorry but I think they did a wonderful job depicting the world. A much better job then I thought they would orginally (before I tried it and thought it eould flop). There is so much they put in from the books, from the obvious to the most obscure, it really is insasne how much detail they put in that 75% of the people that play wont even notice. Being a fan of Tolkien really helps the immersion in this game but even if you are not it still is beautiful to behold. |

I've played for a couple of months (lvl 31) and think it is very immersive. The epic quests are great and have a great story and the lore is phenomonal. They put tons of little things in the book to actually make it feel like you are their helping the fight against Sauron. I love htis game and will be here for a long time.

I agree the best way to play LOTRO is to take it all in and play slowly. Not just run around a fast as you can skipping the dialoge and getting all the quests as soon a possible. It really makes you appreciate all Turbine has done in this game to make it feel real and be just like the books. |
