Originally posted by Alpha99 What yaminsux was trying to point out is that at the start of the battle many of the light tanks will try and zip round to scout the enamy and to try and find their artillery so either they can destroy it else their own arty can. Going 45-60 km/h in a small light tank that's dancing/jinling makes you very hard to hit (though once hit yhou're still toast). Note you get experience (for researching up to your next vehicle) for finding enemy vehicles (note this does not have to be first time, if some one else has found them, then they've gone to ground again and you're uncivered them once more - this counts), for damaging enemy vehicles (thoise scratchs on the enemy arty and light/medium tanks), and for destroying them (unlikely but I have sene light tanks finish off motrally wounded big beasts). Get the exp in, research your next tank/spg/td and move on up. (BTW if you get frustrated at dying, don't go TD as they are defensive sniping machines that require patience - drive one of these and you'll learn to hate low tier and light tanks as they knock your tracks out, move round your lightly armoured sides and rear, and pumble you). |

I'm sorry but you've just summed yourself up there as an arcade game player who should avoid MMOs. I, like a good few people out there, have effectively moved from Navyfields (European servers) to WoT. Both games are incredibly tactical, however both have lots of players who care little about team play and just go after kills in a self-centered way. In Navyfields general play there's always been an issue over game play and tactics as you get impatient players who just assume they can charge in all guns ablazing and sink everything in sight (I would love to say these players don't hang around long, but alas many do stay). Once you get on to Fleet actions however (Harbour Assaults, League, Cups, etc) then the game becomes extremely tactical in nature. The same should hopefully happen after the Clan system comes out in World of Tanks.
And before you accuse me of being an IS-7/Mauss driver, I only started AFTER the last wipe and so have had to work my way up while the big tanks have been around. Sure it took a tier or two to get used to what to do and help from my friends and fleet mates - but the same information can be got from the WoT forums. As to balance, yeah it's a tad fubar at the moment, but the developers are looking at it. I think it also depends on time of day as when I was in low tier tanks, during weekend afternoons I was against other low tier tanks, highest being KV and Panzer 4s, however come the evening I did find myself with the heavy stuff. Same thing is still happening, so while I'd expect to be facing the big stuff in my T43 medium tank, I have seen the occasional loltraktors appearing.
Note there's a patch out this week that adds 2 more maps and has a fix for balance (so fingers crossed). |

No one dares say anything like this on the official NFEU forums are the threads are locked and deleted very quickly and people are receiving forum bans for them. People are also not willing to post on their own fleet forums in public areas as the GMs are also using these for excuses to ban (which in many countries is illegal - as one GM has already found out). |

I never thought I'd be writing a post like this, but I must warn anyone thinking of joining the European servers to either head over to the US ones (NFNA) or skip the game entirely. While many of the moderators do a reasonable or good job, the actual games masters them selves are out of control, and as they effectively run the company there's no one to keep them in check. These people have made the game very personal, have targetted certain fleets and are inconsistent with their bans. One such ban was only removed when the GM in question was threatened with legal action for what he had done. Long term players are now leaving to either stop playing the game or to start/restart on NFNA at an ever increasing rate, but alas, unless the more apathetic players (whom have contributed little to the game except euros) start to move nothing will change, as we feel only a drop in revenues may cause the situation to change. I feel most sorry for the mods [mod edit] as they are the ones who tend to be unfairly targetted as a result of the issues, despite the fact they have no real control in those areas. There are, however, also mods who really should not be allows to carry on, but are being protected by the GMs. And for the GMs of FNEU, this forum is totally independant to your game. You can NOT take anything I have written here as an excuse to do anything to my account. |

There is a catch to this method though. The crew increase is greater for a BO per level than a sailor or a national sailor. This means at higher levels you'll have less vets/experts resulting in a smaller spotting range.
Having said that, by the time your BO reaches the top levels he should eb maxed out regardless so this penalty is only temporary and also not a big dissadvantage once you get used to ranging you guns. |

It's one of those games you'll either love or hate. I'm semi-addicted to it. It's also one of those games you need to perservere with. The learning curve is quite shallow, but you have to get ued to the fact that try tackling a battleship in a frigate or destroyer and you'll last only seconds. There are game rooms, however, designed for smaller ships. It's also a game where it's worth reading the guides first, will stop you making costly mistakes that could hamper you further down the line. |

I'm similar, though my boat was only a level 2 frigate.
It was fun, but not enough. On top of which it was find to identify who would give quests, the movement system was, to be very honest, crap, and the translations were really bad. I might still play occasionally, but I just don;t feel the draw any more. |

I got the impression it was random. Possibly if there is a critical hit on you there might be a chance of losing an item. It might also be the case that if you have armour, that goes first.

I've now lsot items in PvE - in the crete batllegrounds I lost 6 cannns and my armour when I ws sunk, and in open sees a smuggling ship I was taking down somew how managed to take out my level 2 armour.

What was the duplication bug ?
I assume it's been sorted now. The server's population might be ppicking up - there are some big ships out there and the noob ports seem quite busy (well Athens anyhow), but Genoa and Instanbul do seem quiet. |

Rats I might be on the wrong one - what's it's position on the sign on screen ? My first alt is on the bottom right server, the one i've been developing is bottom left. not sure I fancy starting yet again.

Well the official forum worked and I can now play it. The problem lies with the way the update part of the software (runs every time before you can start playing) intereacts with some security packages - not good, but atleast you can disable and re-enable again around that short bit.
I know the serious players here will not like what i'm about to say, but ... It's ratehr a giggle. I'm seriously not sure about long term attention holding, but I'd certainly recomend this as one for all to try, though I'd like them to fix the known issue with firewalls. As to Eve analogies, so far it does not fit. I've been sailing out without an issue and fighting low end pirates - thoguh it looks likea very steep climb to get the 2nd upgrade for my ship. I tried a merchant, but that was slowa dn boring, and hard to fend off raiders, where as being a pirare hunter is quite good fun. Down sides so far ... crafting - you can forage/mine/chop raw materials, but there's no one to teach you how to use them to make planks, metal bars, etc Ratehr frustrating. Also the random engien used sucks - expect to go through long strings of misses in combat agaisnt the weakest of critters - frankly it can be embarrassing. And while i'm at it, there's no way of comparing how tough some thing is compared to you, a good job you lose nothing on dying bar shame and some wear on equipment, you even keep your ship on being sunk. It's very much a flawed game, but it's also very good fun (in the short term anyhow) and free, so I recommend giving it a try :) |

Cheers for the URL, but the downlaod is still titled beta 1.0.
Even if it is version 1.15, is it ok to just apply the 1.19-1.21 patch to it ? Also when I start the game, I get prompted for an upgrade server - then get to a new window with items such as Upgrade, Options, .... - should I have some sort of start button here ? |

Register account - check
Download client ...... Well non of the bit torrents work and all the HTTP links are for version 1.0, not 1.15 Downlaoded one anyhow to patch - corrupt contents part way through install. Downlaod another - this works. Logon - err no option. Non of the patching servers are contactable either. it is not my firewall, but I disable it anyhow - no joy. So far seriously unimpressed that you can't even get on to play. I've even left 8 hours before trying - no go. Oh and where the blazes do I get patches from ? My impression is this is being done by a 2 bit company who don;t care - I hope/wish I am wrong. I'll a new install again over the next few days, then ditch it as a waste if i still can;t get on. |
|

Gets worse - I checked the official forum and can see no where for this, but not only is the version wrong, but there are corrupt files in the install :(

I've got teh same issue - I can only find the 1.0 beta client and no patches. Can't get a bit torrent seed to work and have separate downloads going from two mirrors.
Is there some where I can get the 1.6 code from ? |

Appologies if this has already been covered, but what happens when you die/sink ? Is there any penalty, do you risk being robbed/looted ?

I take it, if you want to do some ship to ship fighting, then you're always going to be open ?
Also how easy is it to swap between types, i.e. could one start as a trader, then switch to a fighter ? Oh and .... if you lose your ship, I assume you have to buy a new one to replace it ? |

I must admit this game does interest me, but (and this is partly directed at Dystopiaboy), how similar is this game to Eve in the way PvP works ?
What i mean is, are you fair game as soon as you sail out there and so need to get in to a guild pretty quickly ? or is this the sort of MMPORG you can play part time as a white shield ? Also, I take it, that while the game is free to play, to be able to stand a chance of winning a naval conflict, you do need to real world purchase credits for essential items ? |
