Because GW has no monthly fee, we won't see any crazy exodus of players like when say.. EQ2 came out or something similar. If i get GW2 when it comes out, I doubt I'll completely stop playing GW. it'll cut down a lot on my playtime, but not by too much.
And you never know, GW2 could have certain problems. some people may go back to GW to get things that are missing or less balanced in GW2. Like the Coke classic of Guild wars. |

I don't think I can bring myself to get WoTLK. after quitting WoW with 2 70s and a 69, I just need to let my account die. So I hope to god WAR comes out before WoTLK, so it can't suck me back in. |

NDA Update (If All Goes Well In Guild Beta...)

c'mon guys don't take the troll seriously. the entire concept of "a game without FFA PVP will fail" is silly. FFA PvP games are niche. Look at EVE, FFA PvP in an AMAZING game and its still a niche. other games with FFA PvP that aren't as well made are far more likely to fail than games without FFA PVP like say... WoW?
c'mon guys, just laugh at trolls, maybe poke them with a stick, then get back on topic. |

What will you do at the start of WAR?

I rarely enter non-grind games at launch. so It will be a nice change to not have to race through the grind to try and get ahead. I'm going to go RIGHT to the PvP and stay there, for a long time. |

Me and a few friends from work want to try this game...
Giran (General) « Lineage II 7/05/08 9:55:21 PM
I don't want to bash L2 but I suggest against starting. I played the game from beta, and eventually quit because the grind was too much for me with all my PvPing (XP loss on death, some weeks I ended up lower than I started)
Its got some great PvP, plagued by terrible balance. I can't speak for current L2 but as of my last time playing it, the balance was still some of the worse I've seen, with every big update nerfing 1 class and making another one godly.
Prelude, Dark avenger with godly shield stun. C1 Archers, but they are always godly. C2 Daggers with might mortal or focus SA, they even removed Might mortal mid-way through C2 because it was so overpowered. 56 Abyss walker could 3shot a 60+ tank in full doom. C3 ooo tank love! but its all about the necro now
ect ect. pick the wrong class because it sounds interesting and you'll feel the grind even more (or feel helpless in PvP). and the game itself gives you VERY little information on the classes. a few words on the BASE class for each race (mage, fighter. despite the fact that humans have 6 mage and 6 fighter classes as they branch out at 20 and 40)
This can be fixed with fansites, that give LOTS of information about the classes. I didn't have them back in the day and became a phantom summoner. summoners were horribly gimp at everything except soloing back when i played mine which... was exactly not my playstyle.
Crafting in L2 is more of the same. 99% of crafting is gathering insane amounts of materials by killing mobs. the entire dwarf race is dedicated to crafting making them rather lacking at most other things.
Ok, I'm getting a bit negative now. If you want to try out Lineage2. READ UP ON IT. find which 40+ classes best fit your playstyle. relize that early on in the game, dark elves and light elves have problems grouping together (when they use escape scrolls, DEs can't return to the LE village, and vice versa) and getting to other race's starting areas can take awhile, or cost a lot of money.
Then read up on it some more. don't get scammed, don't be tricked into flagging, don't be tricked into going red ect ect. The game can be loads of fun if you are into it, but can become a chore if you let it.
oh, and join Bartz. best server, it really is. |

that style of running is used in lots of anime, which is the style Lineage2 used for most of the races. Its not ripping off Lineage2, its just not being terribly creative. |

Guild Wars is a very PvP based game. I'm not saying its ONLY PvP, not by a long shot. there is a lot of PvE content, but back in the day the PvE content was just to unlock all the PvP items and skills you needed for that.
The hardcore aspects of the game are Titles, and PvP rank. Some titles are easy, like the protector titles and even the spearmarshal title. some take hundreds of hours, and others have never been maxed out (gladiator title) PvP rank comes down to Hero battles and guild battles. anyone can do them, you can hop right into HA without anyone else (its 1v1 with heroes you control), and for GvG you just need to grab a guild, or be guest invited into one. you can even use a few heroes to fill out your team. However only hardcore players ever get up to the high ranked guilds. and its not just a timesink, you have to be decent at it.

Will WAR have hardcore PvE at all?
General Discussion « WAR (Warhammer Online) 7/05/08 3:27:54 PM
The term hardcore... I don't think WAR will have hardcore PvE. It'll have PvE yes, good PvE even, but Hardcore? i just don't think thats what they are going for. but the term isn't perfectly defined, so what you think is hardcore may differ from what I think. But based on what I think it means, you won't find it in WAR. |

Age of conan european servers concurrent population
General Discussion « Age of Conan 7/05/08 3:12:59 PM
exactly, they took a statistic that is never used in the MMO industry, and put it out there. so the 700k number is compared to say.. LoTR which put out 160k as their active account number, or WoWs 10million. this is the misuse. if all MMO companies gave out activated accounts (activated, not active) then the statistic would be fine, it would be compared to the same statistic from other games (pretty much, games sold).
THATS where the problem is. they take a number that SOUNDS similar (activated accounts instead of active accounts) and publish that information, but not the information most MMO companies give. this thread is taking a slightly less used statistic than active accounts. and is using it to measure the health of the game. (anyone who played EVE watched concurrent users a lot, I was user 9,989 on the day we broke 10k)
But activated accounts is something no one uses. you can just IMAGINE how big a number WoW would have, with all the constantly banned gold farmer accounts, and everyone who has quit the game over the years... who knows, they may have sold 100,000,000 boxes by now. the point is the don't publish that information because no one wants it.
Just like most MMOs don't publish "boxes shipped" like AoC did. Its that kind of marketing spin that people are angry about. If you are going to publish similar sounding but completely diffrent statistics than the rest of the market, you need to be clear about it. The way Funcom is doing it they are just being... dishonest. |

Age of conan european servers concurrent population
General Discussion « Age of Conan 7/05/08 2:39:45 PM
This survey accounts for all of that. It picks 1 time of day (primetime) and STATES that its only after concurrently online players. that means people all on at once. if you actually ready the whole thread you'd notice that we've been going over certain figures based on averages from other games of the same genre to see how it relates to total players.
We pick the time the most people are online at once, we see how many people are on. we DON"T pretend that is the total population of the server. that would be using a statistic to mislead, like funcom saying they had 700,000 activated accounts. we've said over and over this is NOT the total players on a server, and have been simply basing this on it, with the assumption that between 12% and 30% of the total population (30% being more likely for weekend primetime, though i personally think 12% is just a bit too low, maybe closer to 15%)
its a USEFUL statistic. it has to do with how many people you'll be playing with, and its the only information we have. So unless you have other useful information I hope you keep your fanboyism out of this very nice thread. |

how is NOT removing threads in a forum biased? maybe the real reason the AoC forum is full of complaints is because... there is a lot to complain about!
this thread is useful. We aren't given numbers by funcom, so someone went out and got them and posted them for people. how is that not useful? YOU come and insult the person for doing it, claim they are being paid. aren't you acting like exactly what you are complaining about?
there is no organized anti-AoC group on these forums, there is no reason behind all the hate besides the game deserving it. people don't need to be paid to complain that they got ripped off, that they spent 50$ and didn't get what was on the box.
Until you bring something logical to the table besides claims that all the people who don't like AoC are just being paid to say that, then you will be a part of what you apparently dislike. |

yes... controlling the forum. every pro-AoC thread is deleted instantly, the poster is hunted down and burned alive and their children have their eyes gouged out.
Other people actually do something and you insult them, but bring no evidence to disprove what they have said. then when prompted for evidence, you simply state you are too lazy to get it. I guess leveling up to 5 in a game that is apparently great is too much work for something to do unless they are getting paid? |
