The Secret World: 500k Beta Registrations
News Discussion « General Discussion 10/27/11 9:16:52 AM
I stopped signing up for Betas as I want to play the game with a 'fresh approach' once it goes live.
That being said, I am very much looking forward to this one! |

The Secret World: A Cash Shop Makes Sense
News Discussion « General Discussion 9/08/11 4:21:52 PM
I was about to make a long post on my opinion on this topic, but the post above (by Haight) really made all the right points. This is not a big deal, from what I can tell it won't have any impact on PvP or raiding. As an adult w/ a full-time job I don't mind paying for something if it can save me time grinding in game. I have a finite budget of gaming time, and that is more of a problem than a few $$ here and there.

I still consider DOTA (for classic Warcraft 3) the best and the original MOBA. Simple, but much depth in strategy.

I assume they are using the Dreamworld 2.5-engine (NVIDIAs PhysX-technology) for TSW? Regardless, I am hoping the game is far enough along that the beta will focus on actual play, quests, and balancing over too many techonology adjustments. Conan's initial issues were much more tech related than playbility related IMHO. Then instead of focusing on quests and end-game improvements, Funcom had to 'waste' time fixing bugs and performance issues. --Chegg |

I love the mission types. Very excited about this one. Also, at this stage in a game, you won't find much negative news or criticism about a game. The information released is very controlled. --Chegg |

Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures: Return to Hyboria Part 3
News Discussion « General Discussion 6/07/11 11:20:55 AM
Yeah, Sanctum was great and it also provided great gear that lasted several levels. I erally like the grouping dynamic in AoC. I find it very flexible with the amount of possible healing classes.

The risk of buying a brand new MMO doesn't seem that high, even it you find out that you don't like it. Let's say you spend $50, and get a month free play. Even if you don't play much after the initial 30 days you still got multiple days of entertainment for $50. Going to one 3D movie these days costs $12 or so, or one night at the bar is easily $30.

I like this quote from Funcom's Q1 presentation:
The technology supporting The Secret World is well tested and stable, and the technology risk related to The Secret World is significantly lower than for Age of Conan before launch.

Great News! I am giving this another try. Awesome setting and a great and exciting mood. Different and more mature than most MMOs out there.

Thanks for posting that Maverick!
This game sounds almost too good to be true :) I think the release and execution will be pivotal for how this game is received. If they pull off the combination of an open ended skill based game, great PvP, and an addicting storyline the game will be a great hit. I am getting the game regardless. I also find that Funcom tends to appeal more to mature gamers as well. Both AO and AoC certainly had a complex back story, adult themes and a certain level of complexity. I hope TSW keeps that thread as well.

I played on and off for a long time, and I got two characters to 80. I really wanted to like this game, but it could not hold my interest. I was not in a guild and I often had problems trying to find raids and groups. Graphics, scenery, and sound are great in AoC! However, I sometimes found the game a bit cumbersome. That being said I am sure I'll give it another whirl in a month or two, no other current MMO is any better.

This stuff really isn't hard people. Gaming is something we do for fun, if you are not having fun in a game, don't play it. While I realize that AoC is not perfect and that there is plenty of room for tweaks and improvements I am still having a A TON OF FUN. If I was not I would not be playing. I agree with the OP that it will get even better after a few months, but that's really the norm for any new MMO. If you want a polished and completed game don't buy a brand new MMO.

Yes, medium settings with no problems. the 8500GT is great bang for the buck. I am playing at low settings right now, and the game still looks great IMHO.

I voted for the the 'Combat system' option. However, my main reason is the innovative city building and siege combat, in addition to what sounds like a complex and deep crafting system.

Looks like it is time to get a new PC for new.
I am waiting for Vista to become more stable, and the AoC hardware requirements to be released. The game looks great in DX 10 right now, but my current setup would probably struggle just to run Vista. --Chegg |
