Another massive drop (~25%) in revenue compared to 4q.... I wonder if that's why GW2 has been on sale so much lately and if that's why they did the whole megaserver thing...

WoW did cross realm servers. It must be dying.

Seriously though, those numbers are down from the holiday quarter, which were up from the previous quarter iirc. Either way, revenue has been hovering around the same % for a long time now and is only going to increase substantially with the China release.

Registered users. Pretty clear distinction.

What do you think? See who makes the most accurate prediction lol.

I know there are a number of posters on here who thought ESO would be a flop, and have already been proven wrong. I read the bad reviews too, but checked it out myself, and boy were they wrong lol.

/snip

Proven wrong not even a week after release? Give it time. In order for an MMO to flop you need a good 3-6 months. Come back to us and see how much praise it has then.

I have seen nothing but indications of a pretty rocky start with some glaring issues that have been around for months in beta remaining as well as some issues with patching and the billing system. Wait until more people hit end game in a month or two for the numbers to start to decline. (Also it is a pretty good indicator that the game's launch figures aren't very high otherwise Bethesda would be shouting those numbers from the roof tops by now.)

Suffers all the same problems D2 did, repetitive play, boring end game, terrible story. The combat is better though so for me it lasted longer than D2.

While pretty much all you said is subjective and it sounds like you just don't really like ARPGs, I do agree about the combat being better then D2. People love to forget that.

That's subjective ;) I like the combat in D2 and I like the combat in D3 just as much.

Never said it was not subjective. I was just saying that I agree with his opinion about combat in Diablo 3 being better then Diablo 2.

Yep, I just spent the last 3 hours watching the full play-through on Youtube. I have to say, they did a great job~ the story is one for the books! Yep, that's right... it definitely sucks. The story is incredibly predictable, the ending is extremely anti-climatic and there's just not enough for me to justify putting $39.99 towards an already failed (in my perspective) release. I honestly don't know what'll become of this franchise. I really did hope for the best but I just don't see it with RoS.

What are you opinions? Have you played through it or seen all of it?

Diablo has never been about the story and if you are playing it just for the story then you are right; it does suck. But, like most people, they are not playing it for the story..they are playing it for the constant progression / loot finding. That is what Diablo is all about. For those people the game is a pretty big hit. Myself included.

If an old game is newly released, whether it be new to PC or a new release to steam, it qualifies as a new release. If you are using steam as your gaming news for new releases, you are already doing it wrong.

When I go to the store I really love it when all the old stuff is visible and the new stuff is hidden in the back... /sarcasm off

The problem is that this new release page is not being properly handled by Valve. It is just common sense for new stuff, that is more likely to sell, to have far more visibility. What is wrong with having a section that is "New to steam" and "New releases"? Valve only benefits from this change. Just because you browse the internet for information on new releases does not mean everyone else does. It certainly does not mean they are doing it wrong, either. That is like telling someone who is shopping at the supermarket that they are doing it wrong because they looked in the dairy aisle for Milk.

I 100% agree with him. I have felt the same way for a long time now. I have lots of games on steam but I wished it could be much better than this. Anyone know if something better is on its way, as I have been quite tired of steam lately. Maybe Google or another great company can do something better. :)

Yeah, I don't see anything misleading about this. More exposure for green-lit games. I'm personally fine with this. I'm tired of all of the same games anyways. So more power to Valve! Who cares about the 33rd release of Call of Duty? Who cares about Assassins' Creed 5-6, or Battlefield 4-5 (actually like 19th in the series). It doesn't bother me that other titles are overwhelming a very bland market with much more unique titles.

If this "misleading" deception was so bad we wouldn't have seen games like Banished. Valve is also trying to branch off and make more games for their OS and Steam Box. Something that's quite lacking at the moment. So if this means more releases centralized around Valve so be it. If you want to fork out 60 dollars to the newest EA title. They have their own "steam" application.

Why can't we have older classics on the steam store?

What's wrong with that?

I personally enjoy seeing Baldur's Gate get some more sales; it's an outstanding game. Sure there are a lot of bad games out there. But a little research goes a long way and hearing TB complain about this simply makes me think he's saying, "I'm here to blame Valve for their green-light system because it's costing me money due to my poor purchasing/research habits." His utter lack in willingness to research about titles is out right lazy and he looks totally incompetent stating his issues with Valve at this moment.

When someone like TB who's life revolves around the gaming industry isn't doing his research for the products he's going to test, commentate, and/or review. Then in my opinion, he loses most if not all credibility as a reliable source of knowledge/information within the gaming industry.

More exposure for greenlight games until a company dumps their old library of titles and those games get wiped off the new releases page..

Also, if YOU did your research about TB you would realize that he doesn't deal with purchasing the games. He gets codes for them from companies free normally and has other people in his company help to determine what gets coverage.

Valve has way too much power over PC gaming. Sure, maybe they might be doing things okay now...but what about the future? I agree with TB though completely. What happens when Gabe kicks it or retires? Thats when we start needing to worry about Valve's monopoly over the PC game industry. (The PC game industry that may be the only option if the consoles ever cease production)

Also gotta love that return policy Valve has....one return for life. Good consumer loyalty right there.

Adventure zones, AvA, Trading and Veteran Dungeons are actually more accurate for endgame content. The OP is just displaying part of the leveling process and im not sure why they are calling it endgame.

Adventure zones will not be out at launch and we don't know when they will come in. Sure it will be one of the first things in there, but you can't really count that yet. I will give you AvA, as that is the primary endgame currently. Trading as an endgame? Isn't that....fishing a little for another bullet point? May as well say chatting with your guild is end game ;P Veteran Dungeons will last you until you have gear, then you will never do them again just like every other game with dungeons. Cool! That is a real change of pace from every other MMO with heroic dungeons....oh wait. I think that they are really grasping at straws if they call anything outside AvA and Veteran Dungeons end game.

I agree though about veteran levels not being end game. Thats like saying the last 10 levels of the game are end game content even though you are still just grinding quests.

Is AvA and Veteran Dungeons with the "promise" of frequent content updates really worth 60$ buy in and 15$ a month? I don't think so. Most F2P type games offer the same amount of content as games like this. The value just isn't there.

It can be considered end game for those that like the story quest grind. I for one am glad this is a part of end game for those that enjoy it or are ES fans who want to solo/duo. Once I reach level 50 and complete my faction story. I will be glad to be able to continue two more times with all level 50+ mobs for both factions I haven't tried yet.

I will be doing dungeons along the way as well as the 6 for end game along with Adventure zones when they come out. The only PvP I will be doing will be planed along with my guild. We will have multiple guilds for different play styles. But we all will come to defend or help attack if called by the PvP focused guild.

But I like that 2 factions will be a part of end game. You will earn end game gear, skill points, continue crafting and dungeon runs. All post level 50, regardless of the VR levels. VR levels are a post level cap progression IMO.

That is all fine and dandy, but what do you do when you finish all that?

I hope that they keep to their 4 to 6 week updates. New adventure zones, new skill lines with the Thieves guild and Dark Brotherhood. Along with the justice system. Hopefully they open the Imperial city for a darkness falls type of dungeon for both PvE and PvP in the same area. New story zones and eventually new VR levels along with skills and so on.

If they do not continue to update as a sub MMO should do, then yes, I will run out of things to do over time. But for the next few months, I will have a lot do to and am willing to pay for it. I may end up going more and more PvP with my guild if things go well. Only time will tell, but I am still glad that I get to run all three factions on one character and continue to progress along the way.

While this is probably the most reasonable reason to keep playing after you are done...what reason do you have to believe that they will keep up with these updates, and that they will provide you with enough content? The game isn't out yet and all we have seen so far is promises, promises which can easily be broken by a company that we have no reason whatsoever to trust. I just can't justify playing a game based on hopes of a better future / promises. There are simply too many other quality games and MMOs out there to play that have already given me things I want to see.

I just think that some people who are putting their faith in an untested company to develop a really high quality game just because it has a big license attached to it might be in for a rude awakening. Hell, adventure zones are supposed to be a bulk of the PvE endgame and we barely know anything about them....and they won't be in at launch. That kind of stuff was barely acceptable 10 years ago in MMOs; there is no way in hell it is now.

I was almost positive I'd play ESO over Wildstar. I prefer ESO's art/graphic style much much more than Wildstar's, but if you look beneath the surface, Wildstar, imo, is just better overall. I'm a big fan of RvR, but after playing Warhammer extensively, ESO's RvR just seems bleh. There are no concrete, game changing consequences for your actions in ESO compared to Warhammer. In WAR the objectives were clear. Capture keeps so you can control a zone, from there you'd advance to your fortresses, then to the opposing faction's city. In ESO, the RvR zone(s?) are bigger, sure, but I don't see that as an actual positive, just more running around. Other than the satisfaction of killing people, taking keeps, and grinding PvP exp, what's the point? Seriously? Oh, you can go for the chance at being the emperor..but only the hardest of the hardcore will ever achieve that, so I don't see that as something a regular everyday person can look forward to.

Considering the lack of raiding, RvR is essentially THE end game in ESO. Sure you can go back and complete previous starting areas, but I just see that as lazy, filler content. Content wise, Wildstar wins, hands down. I just wonder how long it will take before people get tired of knocking down keep doors for 30+ minutes in ESO. In Warhammer, knocking down a keep door was just one small goal a series of many others. In ESO, knocking down keep doors is essentially the only goal.

Yep exactly. RvR is the only endgame it really has. This is in a game where there is pvp for the first time, hell, multiplayer for the first time..

To me it just makes no sense to pay 15$ a month for RvR when I have a very similar RvR experience in WvW in GW2 that I can login and play for free. Sure, the RvR in ESO maybe better in some ways...but I think that is debatable. To me, there should be no contest in the difference. ESO RvR should absolutely blow WvW out of the water, and it really doesn't. It might be better in some people's eyes (myself included), but its not enough to pay 15$ a month for when I can WvW for free.

5 million registered and probably over 4.5 million disappointed or did not even touch the game. Honestly I have seen FAR FAR more negative opinions of this game then I have seen positive. I would be shocked if they even sell that many copies across all the platforms. I can't predict how many people will buy the game, but I will tell you right now that enough people won't sub to the game to keep it from going F2P in 2015.
ESO or Wildstar

Neither.
Not possible. Have fun grinding veteran ranks without questing...
Cash shops are unacceptable in games that have a subscription. I don't care that WoW did it. It is unacceptable there too. You are paying 15$ a month and should get everything the game has to offer. This is one of the reasons I feel like people are much more wary of sub based games now. Double dipping is becoming all too common.
First impressions are important. This is one of the reasons that ESO probably will flop faster and harder then SWTOR did. You have to draw people in right away. This is 2014; people have short attention spans.
Solid game, but I can't stick with it long due to the clunky combat.

Ooooh, that GW2 earnings drop must be putting their monetization model under some serious pressure. And it's not going to get much better in 2014 due to all the high-profile game launches on the horizon.

Even if GW2 only loses significant chunks of players for 2 months at each AAA MMO launch, that's still 30% of the year's potential spending lost...

Unless A-Net do a paid expansion, their revenue for 2014 will drop another 10-20% without a doubt.

None of those games are a threat to GW2. Next is the main threat to GW2 and it won't be out til probably close to 2016. You can't really compare a game with a sub to a game without one.
