Great post, Im in the same boat as you, have been folowing DF on these forums over the past years and finally decidet to give it a try, and I havent been able to pull my self away from the computer when I get home from work. I am a huge fan og UO and SWG and have tryed merely all titles on the MMO market, well westerne market that is and leaving out the free ones. And now I have it, a game that can occupy me for hours, im allso working on my title quests, even gone so far as to have DF running on my laptop while I work, having it set to harvesting and tabbin in once and a while to restart or change node. |

Didn't Even Make It Past The First Free Month!

Well I have recently startet playing DF allso, well there was nothing else arround so why not give it a go. I have been folowing it for some time on theese forums and thats has been, well... interesting :P But im stunned by the game and im loving it, as others has said, it has a little of the UO feel to it. Im only playing casual and mainly focusing on crafting / gathering, but I for one have not experienced the ganking yet. Well players have tryed, but keeping on attention, listening to sounds and generally being carefull have kept me out of harms way so far. Not that im saying that im a better player, but I love the fact that this is based on player skill meening the skill of the person behind the keyboard, not ingame stats. Surely I know its gonna take forever for me to get anywhere in DF only playing casual, but im fine with that. Allso im all in to the idea of introducing some sort of hidding, like in UO, im not in the the idea of starter areas or new player islands. I rather enjoy the fact that you have to learn the hard way. Kinda helps sorting the players faster. leaving behind the "serious ones" not that the ones leaving are not, but im sure you know what i meen. |

Vanguard has always had the potential to be a really great game. It even has some really great features. However it is a game that is never going to achieve that potential. All of the great potential existed in 2007 and has not really developed since then. Honestly, when the vanguard lead producer is reassigned to a non-vanguard project and all new development for the game halts, that says something.
I will just say this about the gameplay. If the game was as great as people make it out to be, then more people would play it. It really is that simple.
While I agree with you on the first part, I must let my oppinion come on the second and third... In my view Vanguard still has this potential, no other game released since comes even close to what Vanguard has to offer, they are all themepark games, well maybe not Fallen Earth but... So yes it still very much exist! And your last part. Well as the OP said, had the game been given the adds it wouldt be greater. It had a faulty launch yes, but its come a long way since. Noone besides players remember to tell this story. But tell you what... give it a go, theres a free trial, whats there to loose... Maybe your in for a treat, or maybe you wasted 2 hours of your game time, I say 2 hours because I think you shouldt at least take the time to complete the trial. If you dont like it after this, then fair enogh, but maybe you will get a possitive experience out of it. |

Im sorry to break it to you, but I went to gamescon and played JE, had a press meeting with them. And trust me the game is nothing at all fast. Its slow as hell, I felt like swimming backwards when using afterburner. I was very hyped on this game, and we went there 2 persons since we wanted to start a community site for the game ( we run a few allready for other games) so we had press access. But after 30 mins of gaming, well to be honest, the first 5 mins was super hyped and the last 25, we had to force our selfs to keep playing since we drove 14 hours just to see JE, but after those 25 mins it was clear to us that we were never again gonna spend time on this game again, unless they seriously do something about the speed. The only factor that ruins everything for us in this games is the speed/pace. Everything else is great and or ok. Offc. there were strange things like the ship doing trampolin jumbs when they hit astroids, kinda fun to use in combat tho :P But heck its in beta. Still... well I was just sorely disapointed. Not trolling, I still love so many other aspects of the game but, well I hope they do a serious speed burst, want that good old "Decent II" feeling back in a space combat MMO, and JE has all it takes to get there. |

Let me try and say things at little different then... I know its not SWG, but it is for me a damn good alternative. It has many aspects that Pre-CU did allso have, and I have the same feelling in my stomach I had when I played SWG Beta. So I think that it will attract a fair amount of pre-cu fans, and it will have a small but very dedicated community, much like EvE. But again, im no expert. |

I was very hyped on this game, even worked on starting a danish community, but after getting in to the beta and the pre-order beta, I just lost interest, I cant even motivate my self to log in now. Well in my oppinion Aion just has more negatives than positives on my list for now. And quite honestly I see no reasson for leaving WoW or the other titles out there right now, need something new, something different. And Aion is not any of those, its the same old with some new graphics and with another lore. |

I agree with you, and love the fact that you did not voilate the NDA ;) Im not a fallout junkie, but a former SWG player. And I have finally found a new home. This is my replacement for SWG PRE-CU. |

So if any interest we are not a closed or private group. Right now we are just a coupple of Aion enthusiasts looking forward for the release, who one evening decidet that we may as well build a fan site since the videos looked awesome. Regards
