At one point I was actuallly interested in this game. That is until they removed a lot of features and then decided to delay any US launch. At that time, I said I would not play Darkfall. Based upon the shody lauch in the first place and the aforementioned items, I have not changed my mind. I will stay as far away from Darkfall as I can. In fact, this forum is about as close to Darkfall as this writer will ever get. |

anyone else worried about getting a large base of immature players..similiar to WOW
General Discussion « Star Wars: The Old Republic 6/07/09 9:53:51 PM
I will point out for the record that I am in my 50's Wtith that said, age has nothing to do with maturity or lack there of in an MMO. I have seen people older than I act very immature while I have seen those as young as 6 or 7 act far beyond their years. Maturity is a matter of self control....something that many people just do not have a good grasp on how to handle. Every MMO I have ever played has a certain percentage that just can't seem to control themselves in a social enviroment of an MMO. So, regardless of what MMO you name, it will have a certain level of immaturity. |

I have just started playing CoH/CoV about three weeks ago. I signed up to play as a second MMO (actually 3rd but that one I am leaving). I signed on BECAUSE of the AE primarily but also because of the other asspects of the game. I probably only do a couple of AE missions a week. The rest of the time I am having fun out leveling one of my now 7 Heros or Villians. While I consider CoH/CoV my second home, I have racked up a lot of hours there without logging much onto my main MMO. Now, I understand there is a "new" superhero MMO coming in July. Will that effect CoH/CoV, probably. Will I be out of luck, no. These are just games and if CoV/CoH would die then I would just go elsewhere. Until then, I will have fun with it. |

I will be 54 next month. I have been playing video games since well before PC's or Atari's or Nintento's or PSx's. I started playing (alpha and beta testing) MMO's in the late 90's. I am particular as to which one's I play and never play more then 2 at a time |

I have become a bit jaded against MMO's that attempt to cash in on any existing IP. SWG just did not "feel" like the Star Wars movies in any shape or form. LOTRO, while a good game, still does not really make me fell like I am part of the Ring Trilogy. I think that the bar is just too high for any game to really make a good mark if based upon a story that many have already built to grand heights within their own and not the authors imaginations. IP's that are actually created from a totally new perspective are what is needed and not attempts to cash in the success of the form books and/or movies. Therefore, I would really not wish to see a Dune MMO....at least not yet. |

I just purchased a new gaming PC. I also own a next-gen console. My new PC is lightyears ahead of the console and plays much better games then the consoles. No matter what anyone says, PC's will always pass consoles in performance and graphics (at least for the foreseeable future). The only why consoles will match PC's is when they come bundled with a keyboard and mouse. When that happens, the console will become the PC....then the argument is over.

Maybe you are not aware but it is digital download only purchase. You don't get the game on disks. So, being sold out in this case is basically "we aren't going to sell anymore" regardless if they were on disk or not. I have to vote with the OP. This game has not been anything that was promised. I thought AoC was a bad launch but this one is probably far worse at this point. And don't worry, I don't plan to buy this game at this point (although I was going to at one time). |

All I know is I watched two of my relatives die of smoking related cancer. It was not pretty. It is not something that the young think about because they think they will live forever and are invincable. Closer to my home, both my mom and dad started smoking when they were in their early teens. I convinced my mom to quit cold turkey when I was about 15. She use to have the desire to smoke for some number of years after but eventually came to actually hate the smell of it and her desire was gone. My dad on the other hand would not quit. That is until he was finally diagnosed with COPD and almost died. The doctors told us in the Emergency Room that his lungs were so torn up from years of smoking that he would probably never recover. He did but his mental function is now not what it use to be. Lack of oxygen does that. So, I can not tell anyone not to smoke. I can suggest that if you wish to have a long and healthy life that smoking is not something I would want to bet on to increase those odds. I should point out that neither I nor any of my brothers or sisters ever smoked. |

if i was a darkfall fan...id be crapping my pance
General Discussion « Darkfall 2/08/09 6:11:40 PM
Since this game is likely not going to get a North American server, I really don't care that much. The promises made when I first heard about this game were enough to get me interested but now I just follow it enough to keep up with the "news". I am thinking there are a lot of people that no longer really have high expectations for Darkfall simply because of broken promises. I really doubt these leaks will change much of that. |

Sorry, but I am beginning to trust Aventurine less and less. At one point Taos said that "everyone" would have a chance to try the game before they buy. Now, they are allowing a select few into the "trial" as if that is going to appease anyone. The more and more I hear from these people the more and more the term "snake oil salesman" comes to mind. Time will tell but I have already slipped into the "stay away" column. |

While I had only recently found out about DF within the last six months or so, I was very excited about it....at first. I have been turning down that excitement based upon what I would have to say are "questionable" practices by those putting DF out. The fact that they have made statements which then turn out to be changed without explanation is one of my biggest concerns. This recent change from "allowing everyone to try the game free before they buy" to "limited to a thousand" is just one example. I have already stated that I WILL NOT purchase this game unless I can try it first for free. I will not be burned by yet another MMO that makes promises and then fails to deliver. |

I would still have to see what it is like for ME and I am not putting money on the table for an unknown like that. Yes, I have a good internet connection but there are other things that can affect ping to international sources that this one speedtest.net thing does not address. Therefore, my opinion is unchanged. |

Now that there is a release date, will you buy it?

As mentioned, this has never been officially annouced. In fact, I am positive that they will not have a "free to play" available at launch as they want people to actually purchase the game to recoup their investment. If a free version were available, no one would purchase it just try the free version. Wouldn't work. I think the poll should have asked if you are waiting for American servers before you play. |

Darkfall: European Launch Date Announced
News Discussion « General Discussion 12/05/08 4:48:02 PM
While I have been following the progress of this game for some time I doubt that I will be playing it any time soon. The problem...the EU servers. You see, I am one of those "Americans" that won't have a server at launch. While I have heard many statements saying "lag should not be a problem" I simply will not believe it until I see if for myself. To that end, I will not be playing Darkfall unless they offer a free trial. If they do, I will try it and determine for myself if the EU server location is does in fact cause play problems. If Darkfall does provide a free trial period (which I believe they have promised) then I will be there. Good luck to you folks in the EU. Hope the game is as good as promised. |

Space was the reason I got involved with SWG many years ago....well before they ever even had space. When space added with JTL, I was excited to say the least. Made a character a Shipwright and set to the task of forming my own Squadron within our guild. But, the content was weak. The support for space was weak. The interest was weak. SWG is now more about being a PvP player on the ground....many have little clue about space because it just has no meaning in the scope of the game world. In my mind, SWG is about as dead a game as it could be. |

I am afraid the STO is going to go the route of Star Wars Galaxies. Namely, it will have the name of Star Trek and look like Star Trek but won't be any at all like Star Trek. Going to just have to wait and see. |

First off, there is no recession. A recession is defined as 2 consecutive quarters of negative growth. So far, the only quarter that was negative was the one that ended December of 2007. Second, businesses start and businesses go out of business all the time. Has nothing to do with whoever is in the White House. Regarding the "mess", I say blame it squarely where the blame lies...with the U.S. Congress. Just take a look at how many are getting huge contributions from Fanie Mae and Freddie Mac. And by the way, two of those institutions recent former CEO's are on Obama's advisory team as primary advisors. |
