FIrst, the box and the instruction manual state "Online experience subject to change". Second, anyone can try to sue over just about anything. You don't even need a lawyer. However, the Judge in such a case does not have to grant your petition for trial. Point of this, if you feel froggy, go for it....but good luck. |

I won't be giving up any game to play D3. There is not anything that would get me interested in D3 in the first place. I played D1 and D2, they were ok for there time but that time has passed. Blizzard, at this point, doesn't have anything in its tank except re-runs. How about something new!

Having not seen that system in a MMO I could be wrong and therefore prejudging too harshly. My concern is that such system as in KOTOR or Mass Effect is just too slow paced to work in any MMO. It drives things in too much of a linear fashion (yes I said lnear). Although many think of KOTOR and Mass Effect as non-linear, they were in fact linear but with several alternate lines. Each line was just a linear subset and not in any way free-form. This only accomplished allowing various forms of outcomes but all of them were pre-ordained. Putting this into an MMO (to me) would only slow and limit what would normally be a large world as in an MMO setting. Now, if Bioware were to do a MMO of any kind, I do think they would be heavy on story. I just don't think they would use the KOTOR or Mass Effect system to tell that story. |

Just want to point out that "online" does not particularly mean MMO. Online could be a wide range of things including "mobile" IP's for cell phone games. It does not mean that it could not be an MMO, just that it is far broader then what the OP implies or what many that have posted here are trying to suggest.

SOE, at least up to last year, has said they would not delete old characters from inactive accounts. That does not mean that they won't delete houses from locations if the upkeep runs out. Even then, I think SOE holds the house in you backpack with all contents if you decide to resub.

I left in good standing about 1 1/2 years ago but I won't ever go back to SWG. SWG is not the Star Wars game that I had hoped it would be. CU/NGE aside, SWG just is not really a Star Wars like game to me. Unfortunately, it took me over 3 years of playing SWG to realise that.

No offense all but I am done with Bioware now that they are a house organ of Electronic Arts. I just have no faith in anything that EA does these days. Sure, Bioware WAS a great development house before being swallowed up by EA. EA generally ruins the houses they take over. I just don't see that EA will keep their "hands off" this if it is indeed true (which by the way I still have my doubts). |

I have read and re-read the OP's post and it sure looks to me like he was expecting to get 30 days of free game play for activating his account. Account activation requires a credit card or a game card. OP was not attempting to activate a 14-day free trail account. It also appears that the OP did not attempt to activate his product correctly. That is not SOE's fault but SOE could probably help get him up and running if he would call them. |

Originally posted by Dialtrax Possibly, but I have only come across a handful. Most of those I play with in MMO's won't touch this game based upon my and their experience with it so far. I have had extremely poor performance issues on both a system that meets the specs and on one that is well over the specs. As I said, I have never seen a MMO that has been this poorly recieved...or at least with such mixed reactions. Therefore, I have to stand by my comment that people should just wait before they put down money on this one.

I have been wanting to give this game a try. I love the idea of it. I was a bit put off by the way avatar combat seemed to flop though. I would still like to give it a try but only once there is a 14-day free trial. |

I have beta tested a great variety of MMO's and I must say that the AoC beta for me was one of the worst I have experienced. Lag...terrible rendering rates...crashes...bugs galore and a combat system that doesn't yet seem "finished". If I were Funcom I would delay this game at least another six months. But, since MMORPG asked a Funcom guy and he is oh so positive I am sure that AoC will be launched with a lot of warts. As to the "150 developers" working on AoC for the next two weaks to tweak and polish, good luck on that. I have seen a lot of MMO's in far better shape going into that "crunch" time and I just don't see how they would ever address without making worse some of the problems this game has. I know it won't do much when I say this but, if you were going to buy this game at launch....wait. Wait at least a month and see what reviews come in from those that failed to listen and put down the cash for a half finished game.

Without becoming in violation with the NDA, I have to say that I honestly find AoC to be very lacking. It is missing a lot of what is included in the hype. It doesn't appear that it will live up to the expectations that have been placed upon it. If I were to choose today if I would purchase the game, I would pass. So, if you are really wanting to check it out then go ahead. Just remember you have been warned. |

Until I see either game on my local Best Buy shelf I will consider them vaporware. Neither game is in open beta. Only Mortal is claiming they will launch in 2009. But it is still a matter of "show me the money".

I only bothered to read the first and last pages of this thread so bare with me if what I have to say has been addressed. First, SWG pre-CU and post-NGE had other problems far beyond what I have seen posted here. The prominent one being that SWG was a mere shell of what the Star Wars universe was all about. Now, I do not claim to be an expert of Star Wars "lore" and do not plan to dive into a lore vs game debate. However, I will point out this one glaring fact SWG was only a game dressed up to look like Star Wars. One example that always bothered me and finally opened my eyes was the whole Rebel/Imperial are neutral myth of SWG. If I had a character and he was out blowing the heck out of Imperial bases... killing Stormtroopers and doing what Rebels in the Star Wars universe would do, there were no repercusions. One day I could be a part of a group destroying bases while that same day I could walk down the street of Imperial held Coronet and not worry about the Stormtroopers trying to stop me. Even if they did, they were such low level that it wouldn't be a threat. I could go on as to the basically toothless Space game that was Jump to Lightspeed. Or, could ramble about the smugglerless Smugglers (although they added a lame smuggling of "illicit" items sub game).....but I won't ramble. Second, while I am not a preacher of the "NO JEDI in SWG" crowd, I must say that Jedi walking openly and without menace just did not feel right. In fact, it was little things like that that just made SWG not feel like I was a part of the Star Wars universe of which most have seen or read about. Finally, since everyone else went a little off-topic, I must make a couple of observations. 1) Gobal Warming in not a fact regardless what Al Gore says (follow the money). 2) Those predicting a "Great Depression" have no clue as to the workings economics. 3) The recessioin in the 80's was not the "late 80's but rather the early 80's (this can be fact checked) . 4) The Iraq and Afgan incursions are not seperate fronts in seperate wars but battlefronts in the same war (a little reading of Sun Tzu might be of help). 5) The U.S. is not in a recession as it takes two quarters of downward growth (U.S. has not had but one quarter of negative growth as the quarter preceding the last one was actually an upward growth quarter. Additionally, pressures for such a recession are mainly politically motivated by politicans wishing to exploit such to their own ends). |

I like many others were very excited about STO. I became a little disappointed when PE started dropping features like ship interiors from the game. Then they release some of the so-called content screen shots and I was floored. STO looked like it had gone from a top notch production to some cartoon of itself.Maybe my expections were too high. Maybe PE just promised to much up front. Now that Cryptic is taking the helm I am both glad and a bit disappointed. Glad that STO has a home but disappointed because I don't see Cryptic making STO any better then that "cartoonish" ..dumbed down game. I really hope that is not the case. |

I too agree, for the most part, with Die_Scream. LOTRO is a good MMO in it own right. Not perfect but good. It can stand with about any MMO out there. It has blemishes which one could over look as they don't detract from the game. Some blemishes to some people are going to be "bad" and some are going to be acceptable. For me, or anyone, you get what you pay for and what are willing to put up with. |

I have very mixed emotions regarding in game ads for a MMO. On one hand, I pay for the game and don't expect to see ads. I also don't expect to see ads in places that seem out of place for a game. In other words, I wouldn't want to see adds for Intel processors in a game such as Lord of the Rings Online. On the other hand, I can see where game companies want additional revenue streams. Making money is what allow the companies to continue to stay in business. So, I can't complain about ads altogether. I also can not fully accept them either. I guess I will just have to wait and see what happens. I should mention that I was interested in going back to COH/COV. Now, I am taking a wait and see attitude to see if this kills that MMO any more then it has suffered already. |

Playing the blame game after the fact really is not constructive. It would be more contructive to talk about what SWG currently is not....a good immersive Star Wars game. Blame who you like but it wouldn't change the situation. Star Wars Galaxies has slowly devolved from a very decent Star Wars game into a game that only is dressed up to look like a Star Wars game. I seriously doubt that many people that play SWG really compare it at all to any Star Wars movie or book. So, SWG has jumped the shark as far as I am concerned and the only people to blame for that are the current developers. Btw, it was not the CU or NGE that made me quit SWG. It was the lack of that Star Wars feel that drove me away. |

I am fairly new to the Darkfall forums. Didn't even know about this game until about two weeks ago. From what I have seen is that DF was in development by another company in Norway. The current company, located in Greece, took over and is now pushing forward. That to me would indicated a reason for a good chunk of the time that it is taking this game to market. Also, DF is going where most MMO's don't go these days. There game will be very unlike every other game that is out today or in development. The sheer scale of the game is also impressive and bares witness to a good deal of time being spent. While I can not say DF will or will not make it to market, I will say that DF certainly looks and sounds good. Let's just hope that it is not too good to be true. |
