Just to play the devil's advocate here...

...I see some people posting about how WoW is in league with the Gold Farmers and stuff, and frankly I think this is pretty unlikely. What I think is more likely, is that that Blizzard has someone they have employed who has access to account information, and sells them to the highest gold-farming bidder. Everyone has their price. And this kind of activity can happen at any of the major gaming companies, not just Blizzard, and even at your local bank.

Keep that in mind. Your financial safety hinges on the integrity of the people who have access to your information. (This is not ENTIRELY true, as there's a lot more to it, especially in banking, but it's something to think about.)

Little by little the law creeps its way into the internet. I'm all for it honestly, but where and when does it stop. If virtual property ownership becomes a legal standard then when will we see the first vitual trespassing suit, (You mean "Hacking?") virtual theft (You mean illegal downloading?), even virtual murder (You mean identity theft?). If my virtual property extends to my virtual avatar then anything anyone does to interfere with my character or its property is a crime. Seriously, where does it end? What precedent can be established that won't open the way for further abuse?

Dracondis has the right of it, and the law is already on the internet, it's just taxation that has yet to really bite us in the ass.

I feel for whoever lost their investments in SL. I considered a business model that would have required SL also briefly. After hearing about this, I'm glad I decided against it. Still, I (think I) understand where the company is coming from. They have to protect themselves and their business as well. Any business exists only for the purpose of making money, nothing else. I don't know the circumstances as to what caused these SL "players" to have their virtual property yanked away from them, but I can't honestly say I hope they win the lawsuit.

Damn. It's news like this that makes me wonder how long it will be before i have to start looking over my shoulder for a real-world L. Bob Rife. (If you don't know who that is, read "Snow Crash" by Neal Stephenson. Any good gamer should.)

Law is about law, and if you're going to hold forth on whether or not a lawsuit is justified, why not study the laws involved and make a judgment based on THAT, instead of what you wish "should" happen? Is that just too much work?

Welcome to the forums mate.

If we can somehow find a way to convert Stupid into raw energy, I'll make a lolrocket fueled by the posts here and launch myself to Mars.

I hear the rocks there are pretty smart.

I agree Vagrant. If you get your lolrocket working, lemme borrow it. My roflcopter broke down as I was reading this thread.

Aw, see? That's sweet. Kinda like the snoopy and the red baron song they play every year until my ears bleed.

Came across this thread while perusing the sight, and i have to admit, it's been entertaining.

And maybe throwing my 2 cents in makes me a troll or whatever, but i just figure I'd share my opinion.

Yes, I play WoW. Not my first MMO (that was FFOnline for Xbox360.) and yeah, I'm not an "old school" MMO gamer  as i think I've only really been playing MMO's for about 3 years now. But this is my take on the whole thing.

WoW I've found is if nothing else, solid. It's established. I'm pretty sure that I fall into the catagory of average WoW gamer because I have a couple of level 80's that have sub-perfect gear for raids as well as several alts I mess with from time to time.

I had the opportunity to run through the beta of WAR  toward the end of it's beta days and while I thought PQ's were pretty clever and the RvR had potential, it wasn't enough to take me away from what I had already invested in WoW.  And it wasn't bugs or lag or anything that irked me about it, it was just not different ENOUGH from WoW to tear me away from it. Yeah it's prettier...although i can't really appreciate it because my comp is crap, so I only saw the good graphics in screenshots. But the gameplay alone just didn't do it for me. I've already got WoW and I'm invested in it, so why would I just start over? And who knows maybe someday Mythic will do something with WAR that will revolutionize it's game, really set it apart from the crowd, but I can't imagine it's a terribly different game now from what I messed with in the beta.

Now on the flip side of things, back in WOW, I'll admit i was excited about the WotLK expansion. Yeah, I stood in line for it at midnight like 2 million other players. And after seeing all the big-badass gear and stuff from the BC xpac, my expectations were higher than ever. But then I came into WoW about 6 months after the release of BC, so all of it was new to me at that time. I'd be one of the pioneers this time, one of the guys everyone turns to with their questions about what they're about to run into. The guy everyone stands around in the public hubs, checking out my gear and asking where i got it.

Boy, was I surprised. After the first few quest rewards in WotLK I started to realize all this crap looked the same. Oh, different from the BC gear, sure, but in stead of a big-honkin' glowy sword, I had a big-honkin' Stone sword.  Wait....I went from glowy-shiny-alien looking gear.....to rocks and leathery looking stuff? As if the gnome plate wearers didn't look enough like footballs, now they were the same color too! They just had spikes! People didn't ask me about my gear because they were all wearing it too! And how can you "pioneer" or forge ahead when half your server is on the same quest you are and they're all trying to ninja one another!

And then the biggest shocker of all hit me...something I'm surprised hasn't been brought up in here, or if it did I missed it.

WotLK looked an awful lot....amazingly so....like the WAR beta I played but a few months earlier! Some people think that WAR ripped off WoW, but I think WoW ripped WAR right back. Visually anyway.

So, do I feel cheated? Not really. I'm aware it's all marketing. And besides I'm one of those people, as mentioned earlier in the thread, that's looking for a new game. But come on, seriously, who here really thinks that 10 years, ...hell, 5 years down the road you're going to be playing the same games you are today? None of us are truely LOYAL to any game, otherwise we'd all still be playing Mario and Sonic and arguing about Sega vs. Nintendo.

I expect that eventually Blizzard is going to make a major bonehead  move and screw things up in WoW so completely that yes, half their fanbase will cancel their subs and run screaming for the hills, or a new game will come out that wil be so revolutionary that WoW gamers like me will ditch it like an ugly prom date. Or Armageddon will occur. But until such a time as that I still play WoW.

And if you play WAR awesome. If you play EVE, or AoC, or DAoC, EQ, SWG, hell....if you play Dofus, rock on. I hope you're having a good time, and those games continue to live up to the standards you expect of them.

Except FF11. People who play that are a bunch of asspipes. j/k

Crap, I went rambling there, didn't I? Meh, oh well. Laters!

Nit-picking a name? Come on. Look down that list of MMO's and tell me there isn't one game title that can be construed as rediculous in some fashion.

EVE online? What is that? Some kinda bible game?

Ragnarok? It's Norse right?

MapleStory? Something about trees? Maybe like Animal crossing?

I grant you, you'd have to be living under a rock not to know what Lord of the Rings, Warhammer, Age of Conan, or World of Warcraft are, but I'm willing to be there's more than one person out there who thinks each and every one of those names are stupid.

In the end, it's not the name that matters. It's not even the sound or the graphics. It's the gameplay. That's what keeps them coming back. That's my opinion, anyway.

1) Wakfu is an entirely different setup from Dofus. It's a much more dynamic world. The gameplay is differnt and the classes have entirely new setups.

2) The "hidden challenges" aren't anywhere near as annoying as it sounds. If anything they offer you more freedom to run around and do as you please.

I think that Wafu really offers a refreshing perspective change from your standard MMO. It's about as "go anywhere, do anything" as you can get without blowing up civilization around you.

Actually, given how close Obama is to the Clintons I'd have to figure him to be the one with the purchased account.

And McCain is old hat at War. Heck, he was a POW. He's likely got like teir 10 armor sets and knows more than a couple of combat stratagies. He's been playing War since before Obama was running Orphan's Day quests and buying white kittens. McCain's gotta be pushing the level cap.

P.S. The white kitten is not intended as a racial comment. Please do not take it as such.

Not to mention they have a huge pile of Beta testers to draw from, which, if they're granting proper feedback to the devs, should help to build a nice smooth combat system.

Besides, this game is based on  the mediocre TV-series (I have watched almost every episode myself as well) rather than the original film I believe.

You are entitled to your opinion but - mediocre?  Ten seasons, two DVD movies, and a spin-off going into its fifth season - mediocre?

But like I said, you are entitled to your opinion.

If it's really that mediocre....why did you watch every episode? And don't give me any of that "there was nothing better on" trash.

Seriously. Wait for the game to come out, then form an opinion. And you can't base ANY game off it's Beta. That's why it's called BETA. It's still a work in progress. Maybe if the beta players had raised enough of a stink about the combat system in TR it wouldn't have sucked so much. Ever think about that?
