I'm having fun with a dex ranger build. Tbh the best improvement they made was the server merge, for a game thats 100% party based it needed that boost, one final server merge should still be on the cards though.

Papadam have you even played eq2? Its the least instanced game there is.

Is there anything even slightly innovative out recently? I.e. a new mmorts? I havent checked in about 3 months :P Just came from a very depressing stint of trying all the SOE games that are free this month.

LOTRO is epic grind lol. Constant kill quests, the lore that everyone yabbers about is obscenely spread out, sometimes you will need to do kill quests for 5 lvls just to get to 1 group quest thats over in 30 minutes.

Firstly, there are no major sci fi mmos.

AO - Just finished the return for 30 days. Overly complicated and not much too it once you understand everything, the gameplay is very bland and full of needless obstructions. If you're desperate for sci fi this is your best bet though as it has end-game raiding. You can probly get away with being a free player for the first 100 or so lvls.

RFO - A hefty grind with a lot of kiddies and cash shop whores. Its a pvp game with RvR but very bland PvE.

HGL - Good graphics. Gameplay consists of holding the left mouse button down. Lots of essential features missing, the best example being no respec feature meaning you have to farm an item with a 1% droprate or reroll.

AoA - Just a bland grindfest.

A few more not mentioned yet:

Zero Online - Got some interesting ideas, you can have 3 different characters and the one youre not using at the time can still earn XP and fight beside you. Its a sidescroller but from an interesting angle, worth a try.

Mx0 - CoH copy if you liked CoH but wanted more sci fi :P

PSU - Hit and miss but most importantly you can play it on console.

It will be brown trousers for funcom soon. My only evaluation of funcoms work is AO and frankly I just came from retrying that and it was hurrendous. Anyway, when the 2 weeks free trial pops up I'll think about getting it as I'm jus plained bored of everything else out. Not releasing a game with a free trial is blatently an attempt at grabbing money from people that wont enjoy the game.

These days to be bored of WoW is to be bored of mmos :(

In the last week I have tried EQ2 & AO again and in comparison to WoW the gameplay is really lacking but I just dont want to play WoW. I'd do an AoC free trial but funcom are busy grabbing every penny they can.

Just finished rerolling a fury to 27 and using up my tradeskill vit across all my characters. I'm on the wb 30 days but something doesnt feel right. The game is hard work and I havent seen anything to really motivate me.

DoF is horrific, I mean the worse zone I've ever played in any game lol. I forgot about lesser faydark ty. Before EoF I quit as 52 necro too, attempting to solo in DoF was unplayable. 1-20 is becoming a levelling deadzone lol, there's nobody online in this level range and after watching the chat channels there seems to be very few online sub level 30.

Aye I couldn't find my old account using their crap old billing site - now that I've found it I dont feel much better about having to buy SL twice.

Graphics doesn't bother most people, EQ1 probably has more paying players than AO. However, customer service, gameplay, regular updates ... these things matter. How many single player games do you play that you still played 7 years ago? I'd be surprised if you could answer that question, the reason is that companies stop releasing content for them. Why support a company that doesn't care about you as a user? If your car dealer turned round and said 'We will not be honoring your warranty so good luck if something breaks but please feel free to continue to make your payments' you'd be pretty angry.

I have a degree that's a lot more useful than a degree in anarchy online :P I always reroll when I return caus it's the easiest way to hit the ground running.

I resubbed ok for the free 30 days, cancelling immediately ofcourse so that they dont charge me if I dont like it.

One problem, the web site and login server is down. 30 days of anarchy offline ftw :)

I don't get the obsession with fantasy and it annoys me. How can a dragon be cooler than a battleship the size of the empire state building. RF Online has the right idea - let the fantasy guys have their fantasy race while everyone else runs around in robots. I like WoW and EQ2 but if they were sci-fi I would be addicted for life. AO, Neocron2... they're just not half as good and currently its a compromise between sci fi and a fun game.

In Short: Tough cookies. You want to release a product that has a user then get ready to receive feedback from that user. If you're going to aim your product at pre-pubescent idiots then get ready to feel the brunt of that.

Plus, Vanguard is aweful so it doesn't really surprise me that it's forum is full of unhappy users, regardless of their social skills.

The official forums are the FIRST thing I look for in a game. If the forums are full of unhappy users then the game is bad. I've ignored the forums several times and every time I've regretted it. Also, if you see NO one complaining about the game at all then the forums are heavily moderated. You want to see a small amount of silly complaints like "Class XYZ needs to be hit with the nerf baton", not "Why is this games engine so bland and why is there no content?"

No one forces you to play WoW, no one forces your friends to play WoW. They play it because it has a lot of content and a good gameplay engine. Welcome to a free market economy, if you're looking for a dictatorship where you are the dictator then you may wish to access your dreams.....

I'll get flamed for being the one to make a choice but WoW is better. EQ2s combat is clunky, the graphics system lags on the best of PCs, the subscription costs more money, the dungeons aren't instanced but the towns are... Don't get me wrong - I'm even thinking about booting EQ2 now that it's free but in direct comparison to WoW its failures are obvious. In fact EQ2 is your only alternative if you can't get into WoW but are committed to the fantasy mmorpg genre. My suggestion would be to do the WoW free trial then do the EQ2 free trial (if you don't like WoW). The hugest difference between the games is that soloing EQ2 is a complete write off, some people have had success with complementary duos (tank+healer) but solo is about 1/2 as fast as grouping. At the same time this adds a really great feeling of commitment to a group, people really are willing to restart a dungeon and fill the slot they lost as ... well .. what else are they gonna do? lol. The fastest way to lvl in WoW is to solo 1-70 with no only grouping to complete the instance quests.

Edit: Go on wow-pro.com - this is a great index of free guides. Just pick your guide and follow it. Sounds boring but wait to see how fast you lvl. WoW is not very good for leading you between zones.

If they made it free for 2 months I would come check it out. I'm not bothered about an apology - I jus want my game back.

WoW then EvE. I'm subbed to WoW for 12 months. EvE I keep resubbing on a 90day rota - I play for a few days see some skills I like, resub to lvl them but dont play during that time :P
