seriously guys. theres no way around it. I'm 17 right now and wont be 18 until july, and although younger people as a demegraphic are less mature and tend to pull the "ZOMG WTF d00d I just PWND teh h3// outa U," we aren't all immature... I hate it when people act immature too, but there are still going to be a LOT of people in their 20's and 30's doing it just to be annoying because they think that doing so is cool. makes me cry inside

you know this was the first thing that came to my find when i was thinking about a mmo with active combat. I think that you will be ok with any of the caster classes and probably the ranger class, which although can shoot like a fps will have a fairly strong active lockon system and can be played (at your option, interchangably) as a third person shooter. I think that you will have a lot of fun while mounted because things aren't nearly as hairy, all you have to do is run by a person and press a single button to attack. Rangers can only shoot in three directions while mounted as to handicap their ability to shoot-run-shoot-run-shoot, which I think is an unfortunate but necessary handicap. With that in mind your limited hand movement shouldn't come off as apparant while playing a caster or mounted ranger. may I also suggest that you get yourself a mammoth as a mount because you do not actively fight (you're way too high) and the mammoth then fights while you cast spells/shoot. and before someone says anything about that being broken, if the mammoth dies the player also dies when it falls down so cool your jets. To get the mammoth just go pre order the game at a gamestop |

I think active blocking is so cool and to those who say that it still requires a dice role... well sure it does, because if it just blocked everything that came from that direction i would walk around naked with just a shield, never attack and block everything that came my way and never get hurt. There has to be some way to randomly get some kind of damage through the shield. ANYWAY, as stated by the funcom team, one of the biggest parts of active blocking is going to be in pvp where a seriously damaged tank doesn't have to run away like a "girliemaaan" (to quote the great schwartzenegger himself), he can just stop attacking and focus on blocking all the swings coming at him to stall until the healer can get to him, which is a feat in and of itself in a pvp setting. I know atleast with the priest of mitra they have to be in close proximity and heal in a 120 degree cone/arc in front of them Im sure I will really suck at it so im just gunna swign around a big pokey stick

I feel like the problem with objective based pvp is not that it does not require skill or teamwork (because the well organized team will usually win) but that it forces players to do something that they are really not interested in doing. If there is a part of AoC where you have objective based pvp i would not be opposed to it but I think that players really need to have a choice in how they do their pvp. i.e. there may be a capture and hold portion to a seige, or a "slaughter everyone you are fighting" classic pvp, but the players/guild are/is in control of what they do. |

if you look through all of the dev. podcast thingies on the WAR website I think I remember them admitting that WAR was meant to finally make DAOC kick the bucket and take those players and bring them into WAR..... so sad.... i wish DAOC would make a comeback. Celtic Fury on Palomides Hybernia FTW

Well I'm just excited to try something new. Whether or not it works really really well can only be judged once the game has come out, but if you look at the most recent development (did i spell that right?) diary they have a very broken down explanation of combat with an in-game example in the background so at least someone was having an easy time with it while they were filming. Additionally, I disagree that combat will make or break this game, I really feel that there is enough depth in this game beyond the combat that if there are minor problems with it people will keep playing regardless. Lastly, is there no way to customize your key setting? If there is then people could set up the keys to whatever was most convenient for them and this whole conversation would be without point. |
