Ok conspiracy theorists, start posting..

How many think EA saw this development news and decided to make change names? Marc says EA doesn't know about this recent "change"( the nixing of 4 professions and removal of all capitol city content except Empire/Chaos)?

I just thought it is interesting that EA is no longer EA / Mythic and the next day we get this huge announcement from Marc.

Well it's a good thing they EA didn't move at least one MMO franchise over to Mythic's HQ...

Oh wait.. they did. UO.

It's a good thing EA bought up the IP when they bought Mythic.

Wait...  Games Workshop retains total ownership of the IP.. Damn those contracts.

Good thing EA wanted to seperate itself from Mythic and not tarnish it's good name and reputation in the MMO genre..

.... Yeah.. That's it.

I dont know if I would be mad at mythic persay, i think mythic made a mistake by getting in bed with eagames, i would point the finger at ea-games and ask did you have anything to do with this, I feel bad for any company that goes under ea-games, and i feel as though they didnt do there hom, ework and look at there past to see what they do to smaller companies they buyout....tisk, tisk, tisk.

From every indicator I've heard or read, EA  has little to do, other than financial backing, distribution, and taking a huge chunk of the profits. Games Workshop retains total control of the IP. Mythic can't even put a sneeze in that game without their say so.

If it were up to EA, this game would have launched before AoC, and if anyone doubts that, they know nothing about EA's MMO track record. See UO, UO2, UOX, Sims Online, Motor City, and that damned detective one they were going to try I can't even remember the name of.

EA has NO problems pushing crap out of the door if it makes a short term profit. They'd never let it get delayed as long as it has been if they were in charge.

The pre order may not say it, but the Warhammer Online Website Game description may.

Hmm.. I still don't see either a list of classes, nor it saying "A capital city for every race". Just  " Take part in an ongoing campaign to invade an enemy's land and sack their capital city." .. If i'm in Chaos, Alt is still my enemies city.. And if I'm Order, the... err.. other city is... (Sorry, memory lapse.. can't recall the name right now).

Again, if someone could find where it states that, that would be great.

How about they do what they said they were going to do, fulfill their promises, sell me what was advertised with the pre-order, and just delay the game? They have delayed the game a couple of times for 'polish', made people wait nearly a year inbetween, but this flies?

Please show me in the pre-order where it specifies 6 full RvR raidable cities and what classes will be available..

I must have missed that part.

Oddly enough, up until this, I didn't even KNOW they were going to have more than 2 capital cities..  No real loss for me.. Still has what I want. Scenarios, PQ's, ToK, Keep takes, Sieges, and 2 cities to siege that I'll likely never see everything in anyway, since I usually don't do raids.

Oh.. and 20 classes to chose from...

So Order has a magic tank and Destruction doesn't. Destruction has a heavy tank and Order doesn't. Not really a balanced trade in my eyes.

So what your saying is every faction should have a mirror? Some would say that makes for rather dull gameplay.

In my opinion, it gives one side a distinct advantage over the other, and a distinct disadvantage. You have to use tactics to exploit those weakness and play to your own strengths, and I think it makes for much more interesting gameplay.  DAoC had that, and I really liked that about it. It emphasizes that your choices have consequences. Picking one faction over they other when they're equal essentially makes it a choice of aesthetics.. and that doesn't intereset me.

Honestly, I'm disappointed with the Capital Cities, but from pretty much the first day I visited WAR's website, I had myself begged down for a Choppa, and from that point on, nothing else. I can't play anything but, sorry.

Everyone has a right to their opinion. I say, "Sorry friend. You're loss".

You're denying yourself other experiences you may find equally or more enjoyable and joining the party late. All for what? A rigid belief that you never even had the opportunity to try? How do you know you would have liked the class to begin with?

Not tyring to change your mind or anything.. But I can't help but be a little saddened when a potentially good person makes these kinds of choices. And I'm not talking about just games either.

Actually.. I have no problem with this.

These are MASSIVE cities.. they're going to be hard to defend, hard to invade.. Why do you need 6?

I'd rather have 2 great cities, than 2 OK cities and 4 mediocre ones.

While I'm disappointed that they are also cutting 4 classes out, I still understand why. They're really trying to give us a great experience. Any hack company can throw classes in the mix (Or in the case of WoW, just give the EXACT SAME CLASSES to everyone) and call it a day. It takes quite a bit of conviction to say "These classes/cities just aren't good enough." to a ravenous fanbase.

I say Kudos to Mythic. There's always expansions and patches. And since Mythic has a history of giving free expansions, I have no doubt a good deal of what's being left out will be given to us at some point down the line.

Another option you may want to include:

Age of Shadows

Many thanks! Anxiously clicking refresh....

While this is the end of the announcements for tonight, log on to MMORPG.com tomorrow for a report on the rest of that interview that includes three other exclusive announcements specifically addressing Warhammer Online.

.. It's tomorrow.

What's up? :)

Been so long :o

Penny Arcade.. Soulless Dragon.. I remember that when I was in beta.. It's not on the site anymore,t hough, for some reason..

You know, I've been reading a lot about the changes they've made over the last few years.. I took a break to play WoW and a few other MMO's..

I'm really anxious to try the Origin server too, but I think I just miss Camelot period.. I'm going to d/l the 14-day trial and see if it's worth resubbing with my old account... Sounds like they've made a TON of improvments.

Few I spotted that got my interest:

Bind Stones
One character can master all trades
Quicker creation times (I was one of the first few LGM Armorcrafters on Percival.. It was PAINFUL)
Archer Revamp
New Bounty Rewards   (Bout time.. those things were bloody useless)
New Keep Designs
Nifty new UI   (I think it looks neat)
And... *Drools*.. Siege Towers..

Any current players care to comment on the current state of things in DAoC?

All you need to know.

[Edit]

Damn.. beat me too it with another link. A better one too.

Everquest 2 allows you to be logged out of the game and chat to logged in guild members from a web browser.   They also allow you to see your stats, etc as long as you Pay Extra.   You can't how ever interact with your character unless your in game (huge HUGE security risk to allow interactivity).    Any further access through a browser or Messanger to the game for something other than chatting is a huge Security risk.

Oh, heavens no! I wouldn't want to be able to interact with the CHARACTER... Just chat and do guild operations (Promotions, set meeetings, etc..).

Anything else, you might as well be logged in to the game. :D

lineage2 has had ingame MSN for ages. and that worked fine. all info was logged but it worked.

Even something like that, which integrates with other IM clients would be neat.... Although it'd be neat if it could do more. :D

You could do this with Vanguard - not sure if its still in - in real time at the login screen before you even enter the game.

Maybe they will add it as part of the out of game interactive Guild / Character website page.  Apparently you will be able to check your stats, see in real time what your TOK progress is, etc etc  Also manage your guild affairs out of game.

Interesting.. I'd like to see done outside of the game client.. The idea being, when I'm at work, or I'm on a PC that can't run the client, I'd be able to log in through this other method with my game account and be able to do these sorts of things.

Very cool if they're doing it.

I remember seeing this on a couple of games but I dont remember which. It this -is- something that is in a game, it -must- be restricted to only speaking with guild members. Otherwise it is much easier to script bots that can get really annoying, really fast.

While I understand the need to restrict it just guild members to prevent spam, if the client is restricted to chat and guild control functions only, I don't see bots causing any major issues.

Various games, including EQ2, have this.  I think from what the devs have said, this may already be something they are planning on.  They want to make sure, even when you are not in the game, you can know what is going on the game.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but none of them have done it in real-time before, that I'm aware of. Like you were in the game?

If so, I've never seen it done.

I've often wondered why an MMO hasn't done this before, but I think it would be excellent to see implemented (And a great selling point) for WAR:

Can someone suggest that they develop a method by which players who are not actually signed ON to the game can chat with guild members if they have an active account? And perhaps, even extend it beyond just chat?

I don't know if it'd have to b web based, or use some external client, or what have you, but I think that would boon to guild relations to be able to at least chat with your guild even if you can't get into the game.

Sure, you can go around it with AIM or Vent or what have you, but I think the potential for specialized chat methodology is very huge. Imagine being able to delve an item to someone who isn't in the game, or let them perform certain guild management operations.

The WAR Chat Client: Sounds neat.

It's not about having things copied out. It's about the amount of copied things.

If the developers have no imagination, how are they going to fix problems?

Again, imagination and innovation are more than what they appear to be on the surface.

How do we know it won't have an imaginative story line?
How do we know it won't have imaginative in-game features?
How do we know it won't have imaginative approaches to common fantasy MMORPG elements?

You can't tell these sorts of things simply by looking at the style and appearance of a game. True, the story or in-in game features might not be imaginative at all.. Time will tell.

I suppose it depends on what you want to be "imaginative" in a game. Granted, you could say it's appearance and style aren't very "imaginative", and not many would argue.

I just place a higher value on imagination in other areas of the game over appearance and interface.

To each their own.
