funny thing is that wotlks Wintergrasp is like 50 times better made than WARs keep-overtaking

hahahah. No.

No? Blizzard has no budget to keep, Mythic didn't even make their game finished in time for release.

What does that have to do with the fact you said Wintergrasp > WAR's keep overtaking?

make a fucking guess? mythic rushed their pos game - the beta was kinda fun but in the real game there was no reason whatever the fuck to defend a keep == they turned into "player versus keep NPC"-fights

Mythic openly admitted that and they're fixing it. They can't just push a button and have it fix itself, these things take time. They saw how well it worked in beta (where people cared less about rp) and assumed it would be the same in retail, which it obviously wasn't.

I play mmos like singleplayer games. I play them as long as I think they're fun. When I get bored I quit, simple as that. I never understood the "it's my second job" mentality. The approach a previous poster took, wanting to suffer and be punished while playing, I find downright disturbing. I don't understand how that can be a driving force to play a videogame?

So you can't be killed while doing PvE or quests? ie: outside a scenario

Yes you can. With each tier, there will be more and more RvR zones. So if you go and do quests there, you will be RvR flagged. I'm not sure, but I think tier 4 consists of about 80% RvR zones or something like that.

I intend to use scenarios for short sessions and world rvr when I have more time to play. In theory, if I only have 30 minutes to play, I could play 2 scenarios to the end.

this game sounds like a game for carebears to pvp in. Tell me where is the fun in running into battle, maybe killing someone and then dying ad nauseum. Without having something personal to lose every time you die, it really is just a zerg fest game for carebears.

Let me take your most valuable items, set you back an hours exp, and then it will be incredibly interesting to me.

I have great news for you. You don't have to play the game! You can just leave that to the rest of us

Nah seriously... Not everybody can devote most of their spare time to a game and for every 1 player that enjoys your idea of interesting gameplay, there'll most likely be a handful or 2 (probably more) who don't.

I didn't get a lifetime subscription because I knew I was switching to AoC and/or WAR, but AoC was a major disappointment and WAR is shaping up to be just another incomplete game to the list of recent MMO failures, so I'm starting to regret it. When I read about MoM and the features in it, I knew I made a mistake.

Personally I found CoX extremely repetitive. Cramped and overly similar instances from start to finish. Was fun the first week or two... I hope they will move away from that with STO.

Nice title! I just HAD to put on my David Gilmour "Remember that night" DVD

I love SW but hated every bit of SWG. I always thought the game was crap Pre-CU, CU and NGE alike (just my personal opinion). I for one hope Bioware's game will be nothing like SWG.

What saddens me the most in all of this is that the "feel" will be gone. It's really going to be a war between Chaos and Empire, with the rest of the races on the sideline.

Only good thing I can see in all this crappy news, is the honesty of Mythic. Hats off to them for not going the Funcom route. But what happened to the "we'll release the game when it's ready" philosophy? Was it just empty words from the PR guys? Sure seems like it

My interest in this game is really starting to drop (fast!), now it looks to me like we'll be playing another half-finished game that investors rush to earn a quick buck. I have just read the article right now, and maybe I'll look at it differently in a week, but right now I no longer believe in this game.

Had to adjust my hype rating from 8.0 to 4.0

Just to clarify what I meant by my previous post. I think it's a shame that you're forced to tank if you roll a typical tank class, which has a more or less useless dps spec available. Spec for dps (dual-wield/2H) and no group will have you, because you then become a "tank mage" to use Charris1980's metaphor.

I hope a 2H tank class will be viable for RvR.

Sure. You can tank without a shield.

Will you want? Sure, because the game is about having fun.

Will I kick intolerant people from my group? Yep.

Wish there were more people like you around. Everybody's so damn elitist nowadays. Why does everything have to go by that same ancient recipe for grouping? Why can't devs think out of that box? It's like MMOs are not about having fun anymore, it has become a second job, where your specific function is lined out for you, and if you don't do it by the book, but try and make it fun for yourself, you get fired!

Im not against WoW but I dont play it, I dont play Pay2Play MMO's cause I dont have the money to do so..

Im now playing WYD Global, Im kinda hooked on this one cause my character can gain level though Im afk  cause this game has an auto attack system..

Where's the fun in that?

Tried EVE-Online, but sucked at PvP. Also, the community is a bit too hardcore/elitist for my taste, so I'm back with EQ2 and use it to pass the time, while I wait for WAR.

PS: I don't dislike WoW, just its endgame.

These are only my initial thoughts. I have only played a dark templar and a barbarian so far and haven't played beyond level 20. (level 13 and 19).

Game start-up: 5/10
Pros:
- Very very fast patching, even with huge updates. I get at least 700KB/s with my 6mb connection (full speed).
Cons:
- Lot of loading.
- Several annoying splash screens from various companies (thankfully you can click past them, but still...)
- When your character is loaded and enters the game world (or a new area for that matter), some details gets rendered on the fly making it a chunky experience the first few seconds (would prefer to get the whole mess fully loaded the first time)

Originality: 7/10
Pros:
- The combat system. I was very sceptic, but after I'm getting more and more comfortable with it, I also enjoy it more and love it now.
Cons:
- No matter how I look at it, the combat system is still all about button mashing.
- Quests are like in any other mainstream mmo out there. Gathering quests, fed-ex quests and kill quests pretty much sums it up.

Gameplay: 6/10
Pros:
- I'm not bored yet.
Cons:
- There's so much loading going on all the time that it's starting to become a problem for me in order to fully enjoy the game.
- Not sure how it will be later on, but in the starting area the world feels like a maze, like you can only run along some clearly defined paths. That's what I disliked about Guild Wars and made me quit, I'm starting to think that the story will be the same for AoC.

Sound: 10/10
Pros:
- It's just perfect! From ambient sound, voiceovers, combat sound to music - wow!
Cons:
- Can't think of anything

Graphics: 9/10
Pros:
- Breathtakingly beautiful world
- Awesome and highly detailed models
- Even the details have details
Cons:
- Can be very demanding on your system
- Some unfortunate clipping issues here and there
- Animations could be improved upon, but nothing seriously wrong
- I have had a few problems with my character's head doing some wierd stuff (like spinning around, facial tattoos disappearing). Relogging fixed it on both occations and I haven't experienced it since.

Level system: 7/10
Pros:
- Great "WoW-like" talent trees with very interesting feats to help define your character.
- The pace I level up feels just right, not too fast or slow
Cons:
- I'm not sure what I think about the passive skills (climbing, hiding, bandaging etc.)
- Nothing new or VERY exciting about it, pretty mainstream

Overall score: 7/10
I'm not sure I'm going to play AoC, but that said, I'm sure the game will be a succes and will have a healthy community and subscriber base. It's just not a game for me so far. Will wait and see how life after level 20 is before making a final decision.

(sorry for any bad english)

Nice article. Thanks again.

You edit the config files, replacing the Very High settings (which is direct X 10 features like atmosphere, water foam and reflections and coustics, soft shadows, etc) with the Max XP settings, and then run the game on Max settings, and voila, DirectX 10 features in DirectX 9.

Almost sound too good (and easy) to be true. Will give it a try, thanks!

*edit* Is this a common thing, that you can force DX10 settings on games in XP via the config files?

My rig can run DX10 max settings of Crysis on XP.

I have Vista on a laptop, XP on my gaming machine. I like both.

That's pretty cool, how do you get that to work? I mean running DX10 on XP? Thought it was a Vista exclusive.

I run Vista and DX10 but absolutely hate Vista and would give anything to run XP again with DX10 support.

Wow, that's pretty much in a nutshell exactly how I feel about LOTRO. I was very enthusiastic when I started playing at launch, but none of my characters really grew on me, I just found them unappealing and boring. The champion was the only class I enjoyed somewhat, but at that time at least, it seemed like we were in abundance and not very sought after when groups were forming. At level 32, the game became a second job and so I quit.

When I recently saw new screenshots, read about new content and the MoM expansion, my enthusiasm returned. Now my new champion is level 14, and I'm starting to grow tired of the game again. I don't understand it. I like everything about the game (except maybe for animations, armor appearance and classes) so much better than WoW and EQ2, but I just can't seem to stick to it. Except for the 3 areas I already mentioned, I just can't put a finger on it. Graphics, landscapes, atmosphere, sound, quests, housing... it's all really cool.
