Yea pride in one game is one thing but there really is no reason to hate or bash all others. I mean the more games that come out that are of great quality the better for us, the gamers. We shouldn't be ready to bash a game at the drop of a hat because it is different then our own current favorite but instead try to find ways to help boost it as well. When all games are produced with quality communities and products we all win.

Still don't get the point!  You don't charge ppl to test a game thats absurd, unless ur game sucks and your running out of money and need more!  Oh wait yeah Vanguard did that too...."We're out of money lets release early and cash in on the 220,000 purchases and then fix the game with that money and screw over our customers!"

You do realize fileplanet is the one charging people, not eidos/funcom?

And they are only charging new members existing members pay nothing. Its a service fee not a beta fee.

that statement is false, existing members are still paying for the monthly subscription cost to fileplanet, new members are just paying for the same thing.

No that would make the statement true. My point being it isn't a "OMGZ new fee for AoC beta" Existing members have paid for Fileplanet and pay nothing extra at this point new members are paying for the services that fileplanet provides.

the question is how is gamespots issue a funcom issue? if funcom put up a torrent they are trying to correct whatever issues gamespot is having by providing another way to get the beta, what did you want funcom todo  not put a torrent up?

Ok, before posting, I suggest you go back and read my open post.  I salute Funcom for what they did by putting up a torrent for the PvP weekend.  That isn't the point.  The point is, EIDOS and partners of EIDOS, intentionally or not, are doing a great job of making Funcom and AoC look like crap.  What is wrong as of right now, if you go to http://www.gamespot.com/, no where on their front page do they acknowledge they screwed up and provide a link to Funcom's torrent.  You have to go searching deep on their website or go to other websites to get the right link.  They left 15k PvP weekend beta key holders in the dark of where to go for help.  The reason I say that is they failed to send out a follow-up email to key winners notifying them of the problem and where to go.   That is evident from the verious threads on here, gamespot, and the official forums.

15k in the dark eh? Or just a handful that would rather put more effort into bashing then taking two seconds to search? Yes gamespots dl is awful but as soon as most people got a bad connection then went looking for a better one. A few decided to post tough talking rants on message boards because it requires less thought.

And again Id like to say that Fileplanet is a service. You are paying to use that service not beta AoC. If you pay just to beta AoC and never use all of the other features even a little you are missing out.

I also hear that once you hit level 13 you have to completly stop playing the game as once you hit a level cap the game ends.

Also they have changed the enviornment so that all around Hybornia the sky will actually be falling.

If you are only paying fileplanet for the beta then that is the problem it is a whole service not just "pay for aoc beta."

Also there is a dramatic difference between the 7gig pvp client going out to 15k users and the 20ish gig client going out to 50k users. That is a huge bandwidth and server demand.

Wouldnt you rather funcom be worried about monitering the beta finding and fixing last minute bugs and addressing any other issues that come up without having to monitor download servers? By not handling the distrubution of the beta client they free up a lot of manpower to further invest in the completion of beta. That is after all what this is; one last test to find any new bugs while stressing the servers with the largest amount of players yet.

Again you aren't paying for the beta you are paying for the fileplanet service if you are already a paying member (subscriber etc.) you don't have to pay anything extra.

You realize that Funcom gets no money from fileplanet right? You realize that the fee includes all services at fileplanet not just the AoC beta right?

The letter posted does a great job of explaining that this is a beta you don't have to participate and the subscriber fees that fileplanet charges go towards their own bandwidth issues. 50k people downloading 10gigs is going to be a fairly large strain.

I tried everything to get it activated on my account but they do it so you pretty much have to call support to get it.  I've been on chat support for awhile and I don't think they understand what exactly I'm asking of them.  Comcast support is very often clueless.

You have make an account with the site that is linked to your Main comcast email, then when you log in and use that link you will see a big blue link right in the top center half of the page saying "Click here to activate Founders Club"

Just did it a bit ago and this is how I did it.

Thank you for the info Comcast recently bought out our cable company and we were switched automaticly so had no idea about some of the fluff that came with it.

With recent successes in mmos the driving force now is money. Developers are catering more and more to solo content because it incorperates a broader spectrum of subscribers. And subscriptions sadly are what matter the most. This leads to content that encourages repetitive hooks in its gameplay.

MMO success has lead to talks of "marketing stratigies"  and  "subscriber retention" games aren't being designed with fun and innovation because that doesn't keep the cash rolling in. As long as developers can keep gamers paying to chase carrots then solo play repetitivness and gear loop raiding is here to stay.

Pretty sure from the combat videos that you start with three buttons for attack angles and this increases to five as you level plus you will have combo skills that you will have to activate then use the corrisponding attack angles so the "three button mashing" to me seems much more interactive and indepth then most other games.

They have actually improved on a lot of things as well. The look and feel, skills, and even player involvement. Move invites are going out soon so anyone interested in testing out the beta should go sign up on http://www.mythos.com/

the OPs ideas are great. I too would love to see a player driven skill based ever changing world. I know developers are mostly concerned with profits and wow clones atm but I think that there is an ever growing population that is a mix of oldtimers and newcomers bored with the current state of mmos. Once a company takes are risk and does a good job of execution I think they will actually find a profitable market of desperate and content hungry players.

Yea you have to realize they are creating something. This means coding designing and testing. Now a guy in an office can say "Lets try and have this done by this date" but when it comes to quality if it isn't finished they have to delay. Of course we want games as soon as possible but again it is something that is being made from scratch better to let them work on getting it as close to right as possible before releasing it.

Good news for all players as this will hopefully get more interest in what could be an amazing game.

Yea the camera improvements new zones and even the pvp that have been added are really polishing the overall fun factor of the game. Grouping or soloing, pvp or pve this game has a lot of good times especially for a free title. Will be nice when more get to enjoy it once the open beta hits.

Also keep in mind that starting zones are generally smaller walled in areas then the rest of the game. Most naysayers are not testers that have played through hours of content but have perhaps taken a small look and decide to proclaim it as fact because it causes board gossip and panic.

Cracks me up. What we need is a tax on every parent that tries to blame games, tv, and teachers for their inability to raise their own children.
