[Review] The War Z: A Painfully Executed Parody of a Survival Game
News & Features Discussion « General Discussion 2/24/13 5:41:11 AM
Normally I would entirely agree and think oh man a legit review. I wouldn't have bothered commenting, but does this review come off to anyone as a favor pitch? I mean oh man lets try to get some thumbs up from the community by slamming a game that has already been slammed to the moon and back again? Not that I have any vendetta against MMORPG.com because I actually come here often and have no issues with everything going on as normal. Most of the time I find it entertaining. This game however has been hammered for a long time already, and we only recently decide oh man let us throw our opinion along the flow of the crowd. In no way is this to maim the reputation of this community nor the staff of MMORPG.com it is simply an opinion of what's been going on. This opinion of this crap game has been shared all over and it just finally gets here. Seems a little late in my opinion. Anyway laterz. |

Is the community bringing another promising game down?
General Discussion « Elder Scrolls Online 2/19/13 6:23:01 AM
Originally posted by Draemos I agree with this from Draemos. In simple opinion I can say that this game isn't in my taste from just seeing the videos. I've been playing games since I first played Jumpman on my father's DOS based computer which led to things like Doom and so on and so forth. I have had enough experience to know when something smells sour on my radar to my tastes. I'm not here to point out its flaws or how bad it might or might not suck. I only wanted to pop in after reading every single post here and voice my own thoughts as we all have the generous freedom to do. Whether right or wrong it is allowed because we all have a voice no matter who may think they have the right to stifle or silence those who speak out boldly or in anger. I have no issues with anyone voicing their opinions one way or another. To speak against them voicing their opinion is doing the same thing as you claim they are doing by having a heated opinion about their own personal thoughts. To lash out against one another speaks volumes about holier than thow thinkers (whether for a game's lore or against that person). Much like petty jabs at the way they type or having heard, read, or made up false information. It doesn't make them an enemy to be scorned it just means they don't think like you do or don't know what you do as many claim these developers do not think like we do. You cannot teach someone your way of thinking by making them feel stupid or trying to strip them of their voice. If a man is thirsty can you convince him he is not by yelling at him? True, a game isn't a basic need but you can convince him that he doesn't need water at this very second while your traveling to the next town and are rationing said water. On these developers. Let me be real simple and plain for a moment. Developers are in it to make money it is their job to make money for their company. It is what keeps their children fed and families in nice homes and puts gas in their tanks. This however does not mean they can't love what they do while trying to make this money. Some people love money and have skills to make games. Others may love games with money being a bonus. There are many mixes of these types within a group of developers. They can be just as varied in opinion and mindset as all of us are here. The real question comes down to what is the lead opinion and direction of the product? Games are made for a broad scope hoping to bring in as many potential buyers as possible. They hope to feed you words that will entice you to play and show love for their work by providing them with a living doing what they like. They show you visuals of amazing things and give you a glimpse of scope to try and tie you into their vision of grandeur. Finally they make promises to seal the deal. Like selling you a used car with a maintenance package however limited that is. Which of course you don't realize until reading the fine print much later after you got over the dizzy spray of flashy words and pretty pictures. I don't think this makes them evil or gives me any reason to hate them. It is simple understanding that they are business men first and foremost. Yes, they make games but those games were made to make money. Don't worry about speakers against or in favor of these companies. They factor in how many will play the game and how many won't right off the bat. Otherwise they wouldn't have wanted the property in the first place. They know the name alone will get them preorder sales. They know no matter what they do many of the hardcore fans will be turned off by the smallest change in the lore. They continue in it because they want to continue doing what they enjoy. My lack of support for their product is no hate toward them or because I'm some bitter dried up overly opinionated 80s gamer. It is simply because I can tell from personal experience that the game isn't in my taste for one or many reasons. Be it lore, gameplay, graphics, or just because I didn't like their sales pitch. I don't really need a reason to justify why. Just as I don't really need a reason to post all this here other than being up way to early in the morning and thinking deep thoughts while reading a bunch of posts from a numerous amount of individual thinkers. I will as I have stated before wait for a free trial or something along those lines to form a more hands on opinion of the game. I am willing to wait. I am patient and I am still opinionated about things. Just because I voice something in a heated way does not mean I have to be razzed about being childish or ignorant for not choosing to play a game. It's like being told your acting like a sissy for not wanting to join in a rousing game of tag. Maybe my leg hurts today, I might feel ill, I might just not be in the mood. What does matter is my passionate display of irritation toward someone changing the rules or style of the game gets met with mockery and chastisement for an opinion. That tons come out of the wood work to then voice their heated opinions about an opinion. I mostly just find it funny and redundant in many ways. Not to say anyone is wrong of right for doing so. On a game of tag however I'm not paying $30-60 to join in. In all truth it's a game. Trying to convince others to play or not with insults, slander, or out right abuse is just ignorant. If you don't like something don't direct it at anyone please. When an opinion is pointed at a game and not a person it doesn't need defending against or rallying to, but that won't stop those opinions from either side of that fence. I just think it can be approached with level heads over matched fanaticism for a laid back personal way of buying games. Oh your too crazy about lore well at least they know what they like and yeah many could lighten up. Going off on them because you have a different "I'll play anything that is put in front of me" attitude doesn't make you any better. It comes off as your a fanatic about being an all gamer anything goes. I didn't mean it makes you this way it just appears that way. Oh it's just a game. I guess if they changed your favorite meal in the whole world it's no big deal. How about your favorite car, toy, ring, on and on. They tied themselves to something just as you might have tied yourself to an ideal of I'll give anything a shot, but let it be something you really like then how it becomes a personal issue for you. I'm not really caring if I made any sense with all that. I'm not bothered if you chose not to read this. It was just what was floating around in my head. I did not pick out any one person to reference or slander in this long opinion. I simply wanted to talk about the game and remove those floating thought bubbles from my mind. If anyone found what I wrote offensive I apologise. If anyone found my grammar or spelling in bad form I apologise, but in my opinion it's not how something is said that makes the difference but what is said. Course I'm not trying to please everyone. I'm not trying to sell a product or an idea just voicing one. I am a fan of TES. I do not all together agree with this new game. It doesn't mean I'm a horrible person it just means I don't like the change. When you don't like a change you can either stay still and refuse to change or you can make a choice to go with the new direction or disconnect yourself from that change. There are two paths and both have many opinions about their outcomes from many different travelers. There are five options for two paths. 1: You can choose to stay right where you are and stick to your guns and feel secure that you stand for something you think is right. 2: You can choose to go along with the new path and are not bothered by the changes because your just looking for the next thing to do. 3: You choose the new path because you feel it's the newest and best route for you designed partially by the original road workers you feel secure in your future with this choice. 4: You choose to travel the new path a ways and see whether you like it or not. If not you'll find a side path to get off. 5: You choose the other path and give up on the main road all together leading to different adventures in other places. 6: There is no other option. You cannot go back and change the past. Burnt bridges and ruin are all that remain of what you left behind. The road is blocked on either side so the two paths or staying where you are currently is all that you have. It's all in good fun and I hope for all to have fun in whatever games you choose to play. |

Originally posted by Darkcrystal Originally posted by FelixMajor @Darkcrystal - I don't normally come into these convos other than voicing my own solo opinion about something because I don't like to pick people out, but I had to ask you. Why do you care in the first place? What your doing isn't like making a burger and serving it to someone. Nobody requested a game from you with extra cheese. You chose this field of work. You chose it because you enjoyed it, or maybe you thought you'd make big bucks off it. If you choose to go into a field of study that you enjoy you should enjoy it. People are always going to be assholes no matter the subject.
In all truth if I am working on a game I'm not giving a fark wether it's an MMO, single player, FPS, RTS, or whatever. The real question is. Are you enjoying the work? If not change styles or fields or whatever. Otherwise enjoy yourself and ignore the bitches. Making games is a dream field for some a job for others. If it's a job for you your in the wrong dream field. If your making something you can't enjoy playing why are you still making it thinking other people should be grateful. That's like someone making a really nice painting and thinking because they enjoyed making it and thinks it looks really good that everyone else should agree. If you want developer sympathy then you need to find a developer forum. Otherwise your throwing your understanding at people who will not understand your issues.
I enjoy working where I work and that's why I stay with it. I get dumbasses stepping through the door every day talking noise and acting like I don't exist. It gets me down, but I love working with who I work with. Otherwise I'd be looking for another job quick.
Your not in service bud your in entertainment. Some people won't be entertained others will no matter the subject. The question is are you enjoying what your doing? If not then get the fark out.
I am grateful that people make games. I grew up playing games. I'd love to make games myself, but I wouldn't be making them because I think Joe Somebody will enjoy it or give me praise. I would make it because I enjoy them and seeing the people who do enjoy them play them. Otherwise it's like any other field. You have people who will not give a rats ass about something and those few who love it to death. Focus on the few and ignore the rest. The other option is to drive yourself nuts by reading what assholes write. Even if I didn't come off as an asshole I know I can be.
I didn't want to start any argument and didn't put anything here to ignite your wrath. I simply don't understand why a person who is doing what many of us would love to do is bitching that other people aren't satisfied with stuff. Who gives a fuck your doing what you love or your not. If you want a pat on the back for your effort then find the few who will and ignore the rest.
*pats on the back* That's not to be sarcastic either. That's an honest thing I would do, but you gotta lighten up or change it up. |

How the Developers are out of touch.....
General Discussion « Elder Scrolls Online 1/06/13 8:18:32 AM
I'd like to make a comment about immersion. We have many here that want to have a reason to think that there is no reason the two styles can't blend. Well I know one person already said that Skyrim came off as boring and that person felt alone with stupid NPCs. Consider that in an online version of this game we get to experience the fun of seeing people with names like "HeWhoBakesCookies" or "CaptainDunkem" running within our well developed fantasy world.
There are no alternate servers to have an RP server option. So your blended right in there with "BobJazzHandsFranks" wielding his glass ax with lightning enchant or "ToxicMittens" and her dual fire swords. Games like ES are heavily about immersion because it is you alone in that world and so it becomes a personal world. Where a well thought out name like "Taeris Wevizell" can be whatever he/she feels they should be or have their name mean whatever lore you want it to. In an online game if there is no separation you can be standing right next to any number of people who don't give one iota about anything other than wracking up kills with a name like "NanaPuddinFlower" or "GoatFinger" who took way too much time considering the best way to grief someone today.
Personally I could give a crap I saw the vid and know it's not for me. If it goes F2P I can't say I won't wander around for thirty to forty minutes looking at the scenery while listening to music and avoiding hot spots of murderous foam mouthed weekend warriors bent on blood and carnage of anything not them or their ilk. That's my two cents about the game.
I still think it would have been just as easy for Bethesda to develop a co-op aspect onto Skyrim. Which I would be just as willing to pay forty or fifty bucks for such DLC. Which I would also easily pitch to my friends to get as well. You want your MMO with ES lore you go right ahead. I'm stuck with the ten foot pole people I'll be using that pole to keep pushing it away if it floats towards me.
Oh, and also someone talked about there are limitations to what is possible with MMOs. Yeah tell that to the people who made Mortal Online. Aside from it being ruled by rude asses or ran by a rich boy or whatever. You can't deny it was pretty darn close to an online Elder Scrolls game. Not perfect I give that, but still pretty freakin close. It is possible in every way. It like anything else is dependent on the money, time, and passion invested in it. It is possible but not by a group of people wanting to sell you Nike brand on Skecher made shoes.
No I really have no opinion about either shoe brand's actual quality. To anyone wanting to tell me or anyone else to grow up about a heated opinion about a game not even out yet. It's no different than you seeing a person coughing and sputtering as they walk into the kitchen where your food is being made. He's probably just the dish washer, but it doesn't help clear the idea you shape in your head of a juicy cheese burger coming out with a mucus gob where your mustard should be. You pointing out my immature attitude with a strong opinion does you no good other than show your lack of maturity by being petty over an opinion. (Like I talked about your mother or something and you have to defend her.)
Please note there are no exclamation marks used. In no way have I written this in anger. It is all based on opinion. If my spelling or grammar sucks then take the time and correct it for me and repost it. Otherwise ignore the minor faults and read what I wrote not how well I wrote it.
In truth and honesty I hope you all have wonderful days or nights wherever you might reside and be safe. Consideration I have even for my enemies. |

[Column] General: Virality and Hype
News & Features Discussion « General Discussion 1/06/13 5:36:48 AM
I think newer gamers don't have the experience older more wise gurus have because they have not experienced the falls we have. I played WoW for two months solid after it came out. I have a friend who still plays it to this day and he started playing when I did. He told me so much about it and we talked about it so much that it just died in me. I have tried picking it up again several times. Really it's not that it's boring or lacking in interesting things to do. Personally it's because I don't like feeling trapped in a role within a group. After I found Blizzard pitching it like it was the messiah I started treating it like the plague. Anyway what I'm getting at is I was a solid Blizzard fan D1-D2-WC1-WC2-SC1, but it's like going to a car lot. Some people have that SELL ME A CAR PLEASE!!! look on their face when they get there. Others like myself feel if you come at us throwing details over and over in our face then telling us what we like in something we're walking away quickly with frowns. It's a mentality thing in my opinion. I've seen enough games over the course I can tell off early footage whether I'd be interested or not. Some times I'm surprised or let down, but rarely. It all comes with time and experience like buying cars or quality store items. You either don't care and will pay a discounted price for toilet paper that is so thin you have to use eight sheets just to wipe with sandpaper texture, or you can get the good stuff and use two sheets which leaves your butt feeling pampered. In the case of hype on games your paying for the good paper and getting the stuff you can see through. The young and ignorant buy things pitched by a big mouth standing on a box in the street. The old and experienced buy reputable items and still some times get burned but feel the sting less. Experience comes with time and choices. You can't teach it and you can't buy it, but it will cost you in time just the same. If you learn from it then it's time well spent. If your still making the same ignorant choices then your wasting your time. |

News & Features Discussion « General Discussion 1/06/13 4:46:50 AM
For the video I liked the lady's voice. The actual footage looks like same stuff different day. I will be willing to check out their character creation options. That is probably the extent of where my time in game will be spent. I understand funding probably has dropped off since being announced, but should we really see that big of a drop from the announcment trailer with the original deep colors and detail? I understand everything is in a different light but gimme a break. Pirates WOW. Couldn't have seen that one coming from like when the first rumors of the game surfaced. Oh and giant sized? Pffft pulling out all the originality for it aren't we. Cause everyone knows a character can't be a true badass unless he's the size of a mountain. Like the scale of a character determines how awesome the fight will be. -_- I've been playing games for a long time since Jump Man on my father's computer back in 1986. Sarcasm aside in all honesty I don't expect anything different and that's the sad part. I expect nothing different than the current state of play or style. I guess like fashion all we're ever going to get is rehashed unoriginal concepts to put on like they are the newest thing. Seven hour download. fifteen to thirty minutes of interest and play. Then guess what. Uninstallation. I'm not dissapointed I'm really not. I expect nothing better. I'm still waiting to be surprised. |

News & Features Discussion « General Discussion 12/21/12 4:36:15 AM
I actually scrolled down and read every response to this article. I have only a few things to say. If these companies covering this game can't see the huge amount of negativity flowing out from their community then they don't have eyes. Out of all these posts I read two positive. @Wellspring - No offense meant you might not be a sales bot. I don't know I don't care. Your post comes off as some what legit. You may actually really enjoy this game and I'm happy for you. @Dirty719 - If you are an actual person who uses this account regular then I am sorry, but you sound like a sales bot. It's so flat and straight about your paying a huge chunk for something that tons of people have had issues out of and now almost if not out right hate. This negativity that I read toward this product is not isolated to this site. Please consider carefully MMORPG.com how you wish to continue your relationship with something that has obviously stirred up a whirlwind of anger and rage in your community. I have no hard feelings toward this game. I have no ill will toward people who enjoy playing it. I simply made an observation that is not that hard to make among hundreds if not thousands of angry players. This game so far is bad news and carries a stink over the gaming universe that cannot easily be washed out with pretty words from some social network. |

The Elder Scrolls Online: Three-Faction PVP a la DAOC
News & Features Discussion « General Discussion 5/10/12 2:29:25 AM
I think it's kind of sad really. I would pay 60 bucks or more if they just added a DLC or something that allowed Multiplayer in Skyrim. Yeah, yeah. Slam me now about how Skyrim was designed single player or some other missguided idea how it doesn't make sense. I don't care for PvP. My friends don't care for PvP. All we want to do is adventure together. Instead we continue to get the same tried and fail formula of build a huge half assed world and watch players blow through content within weeks. MMORPG dead stick crash and burn. Hell even if I had to subscribe to something to have co-op multiplayer in Skyrim. I would do that. You hardcore soloers can stay true to your game and play it solo. My friends and I can download the content and play multiplayer. Who loses? It doesn't corrupt your game. It doesn't even effect you unless you download it. Personally I don't care about details in any replies to this. It was more a personal opinion for something I've wanted for a long time. A detailed grand adventure between friends which still will probably only be found in a Pen and Paper RPG. Oh well such is life. I'm not bothered by this. Hell I might even try it if it looks good. Might even try it if it looks bad. Not bothered but I don't get what is the big deal about solo. Great you like to play with yourself. Good for you some people would like that same level of detail with a little side of multiplayer and without the bonus of strangers running around naked spamming gold sales for real money. Anyway have fun anyone with whatever game you love or hold dear maybe one day on Earth or another world we'll share a beer. Friend or foe may your sun stay high and your coin purse hang low. Good cheer toward all and after the festivities if you still stand may your final adventure be grand as back when it all began. |

News & Features Discussion « General Discussion 4/24/12 5:09:46 PM
@ Holyfleadip - While I think your ideas are very interesting and would much like to see them implemented into a game. The issue you run into is that takes a lot of programming that would require more work on the computer's end to process. Now with a single player game much like Skyrim or others of it's like. The computer is only having to deal with one rogue entity. You. With an MMO there are many entities that the computer is keeping up with at one time. It's processing all those players as well as the stuff they have going on or are doing to effect the game world. I'm not saying it's not possible to achieve. I'm saying at the moment if someone was to pull off such a thing I have a feeling you would see massive lag and feel like your game was being played on Windows 95. There again not to discourage your enthusiasm, but to be realistic I don't think your going to see anything close to that for a very long time. Although it does sound awesome and I have wished for such a thing myself for quite some time. Not to mention most financial backers of games don't care about depth to a game world. They care about core elements of play to make sure to draw you in so you may spend your money. If there are errors in what I have typed. I am not concerned. |

Neverwinter: Cryptic's Dark Horse Rising
News & Features Discussion « General Discussion 4/14/12 5:09:02 AM
Eh, I'm mostly just looking for what their character building offers on the free side. Combat and everything else is always a second thought. Cause there are too many limits to what MMOs can do even as tech constantly increases. Cryptic has always had indepth customization so that's what I'm going into this expecting. Nothing really beyond that. I think some of the visuals are pretty, but visuals aren't what I play most games for. If it's fun I'll play it. If not well I'll spend time in the character creation and after a few weeks ignore the game entirely... |
|
Originally posted by Fendel84M I emphasized that it was my opinion and I figured that should have been enough. I guess I was wrong. My harshness was toward the game not towards your love of a game. Be it Diablo3 or anything else. My opinion is mine alone, and I don't go out of my way to attack anyone with it. I can choose to play what I wish as you can choose to read what you wish. Maturity is not gauged by personal opinion. I have no idea why I was singled out but it comes with the territory I guess. I was not griping on the D3 forums nor have I since hearing about the game. So, I figured I could be a little looser in a place not sacredly guarded by Diablo3 supporters. There was no anger in what I said. No use of exlamation points. No singling anyone out for liking the game. It was a general opinion about my distaste for that game and or company. I guess I'll have to tone down using such expressive examples of my opinion in the future. |

EVE Online: The End of The Mittani Era
News & Features Discussion « General Discussion 4/06/12 5:26:25 AM
@grimfall - I agree. I thought from the way it was being explained that it led to a suicide. Creative as the author's writing is. His words could be a bit clearer. They seemed to circle the situation but rarely come to rest on an actual outcome. @Everyone else - It just goes to show what people will do when put in front of a swarm of friends they feel the need to impress by picking on someone weaker than themselves. Social pressure can do that to anyone. Oh, and the alcohol doesn't help either it loosens the morals. The need to threaten the man's family or livlihood is atrocious and no better than what he did. In fact that kind of suggestive violent response is worse. The fact a man would consider losing his life over a game would suggest he needs your support socially more than your defense violently toward someone who attacked him verbally. Engage yourself in helping this person find means of expression other than physical harm to himself. Your threats toward his attacker's family means your lashing out at his weaknesses and becoming the bully yourself. This is not a judgment against anyone. Because I don't consider myself any better or worse than any other human being. This is a simple observation of a sitiation that can pop up at any time. I only ask that we all step back and look at it with cooler heads than instantly responding with the idea of violence. For it only feeds the media spread idea that video games breed violent people. |

With you Unlight I am very much agreed. We are a small crowd (these few outspoken here) not getting a drug enduced euphoria from Blizzard nipple suckage. D3 is a bastard child of marketing abuse slipped into the seventh level of hell and stretched across the wrack of the Butcher's back. Normally I am very tame about my opinions of certain games especially before release, but I've had a hate on for D3 from even their first concept shots. Yeah I might change my tune when seeing the finished product, but I wouldn't hold my breath. =I |

I am more interested in the artistic styling of the game than anything else. I will reserve my excitment for actually being able to play it. However it does sound appealing so far. Other aspects still bug me, but I hope for their sake it is not enough to make me regret a purchase. By their sake I mean I hope they have a winner on their hands as I know it's tough when your putting everything you got on the line for something. |
