EVE Online: EVE Survivor Guy, Part Three

Originally posted by LordAdder I still experiment with various configurations and tactics, even to the point of mixing weapons and ammo and putting various shield, armor, and (GASP!) hull mods on ships that most would not!! I can hear it now - "BLASPHEMY!" " What a noob!" "I hope I run into him!! He'll be easy prey!" |

sometimes they were awesomeness on toast sometimes they were so bad i wanted to drop the group within 5 seconds mostly they hovered inbetween those 2 extremes
In Eve, there isnt generally a lot of PuG opportunity (paranoia mostly), but ive met some great people on the 'Help My Mission' Channel .... it's the closest eve has to regular PuG's :p |

If he's getting different coloured weapon effects, im guessing he's got multiple ammo's loaded (and/or different guns)
If he does check these comments, DONT MIX AMMO TYPES or WEAPONS, it's bad mkay ..
Help My Mission Channel is a good thing to know about too. |

theres only 3 skills on the test server for it
prices on structures is harder to guess tho ... everything costs 100 isk :p
it's possible basic structures will be relatively cheap, but higher tier stuff will be more expensive atm pricing on PI things is pure speculation, and we won't know till TQ is patched

General: Why You Like What You Like
News & Features Discussion « General Discussion 4/20/10 1:56:54 PM
When i started playing computer games (in the mid/late 70's), they were invariably impossibly difficult to complete.
Now they are invariably impossible to fail at.
Imho that's the single biggest change within gaming overtime. |

Droid Arena
I had much fun playing that whilst working in a callcentre |

Your Q isnt too clear what you mean but ...
Option 1 Each account can have 3 individual characters, only 1 of them can train a skill at any 1 time, and yes you can train each character in a different skillset.
Option 2 As skills only go up to Level 5, it's quite easy to max out a 'profession' skillset, given enough training time you can diversify into multiple skill groupings. In your 1st year, you could easily finish Frigate/Cruiser combat related skills. Skills in eve are situational, Industrial/Science or Trade skills dont really help when your piloting a battleship in a mission/pvp fleet. No SP is wasted, as you can always use that invested time to make ISK, and ISK is just a means to an end.
[edit] The "inability to catch up" the old-timers is a frequently observed myth like most myths it is founded upon ignorance and stupidity
Eve's training is realtime, so yes someone who has been playing for 3+ years will have 40,000,000 SP or more Most of eve's old-timers have huge amounts of SP in Industry, Science, Trade AND combat skills, but as already mentioned skills STOP at level 5 ... once those oldtimers reach level 5 the only way forward for them is sideways into different skillsets Within 1 year a new player can have EVERY tradeskill at level 5, just the same as the 5 year old vet. You will never have the same # of SP's, but professional skill-sets within eve are easily 'caughtup'
Initially, in the short term, players focus/specialise in 1 area of the game In the long term, players diversify into multiple specialities Noone has maxed skills in everything, with the skills currently ingame that would take 15-20 years ...... |

Funny thing about Eve, you can train what YOU want to train ..... There are no predefined professions, no levels, no 'End Game' ... just stuff to do
More skills enable you to 'do more' .. but skills learned are situational and only really benefit you in the right circumstances.
An Example (created in EveHQ using the Harpy - Pitt Bull from the battleclinic browser) A freshly created Caldari character takes 3 months (93 days +2 hours) to fly & fit (to a reasonable standard) the above import ... without learning skills. That drops to 54 days WITH learning skills.
Note that the 54 days includes the time needed to train the learning skills aswell as the ship & fitting skills. So they are worth training.
Cybernetics L1 will allow you to plug in a set +3's (approx 8-15m each) .. these take 10days off training times. |

It's easy to be a dedicated manufacturer in eve
all you need is some minerals and/or components, a blueprint (copy[BPC] or original[BPO]) and a factory slot
all your needed skills will be found in the [Industry] [Science] [Spaceship Command] [Trade] categories.
BPO's are sold by npc vendors, different regions will vary available stock slightly. When you buy them they are unresearched. Public Factory/Research stations can have very lengthy queues on availability, so you may need to consider investing in your own personal Research/Manufacting setup (this is not a cheap option, and keeping it supplied can feel like a 2nd job) You will need to invest training time into a racial Industrial ship, and possibly Transports. Freighters/Jump Freighters are more Tradey than Manufacturey. You may want to consider Mining/Ice Mining as a means of making ISK initially (a Battleship BPO costs around 500-900m ISK) If you dont fancy mining, running NPC courier missions will earn you iskies too (the Industrial/Transport ships help here too), be careful of player-created courier contracts and CHECK THEM VERY CAREFULLY, at least twice, and then get a 2nd opinion to make sure.
NB The [xyz shipclass] construction skills (under Industry) are only needed for making the advanced Tech2 ships of that size, and you dont need them to make normal frigates/cruisers etc.

EVE Online: EVE Survivor Guy Week 2
News & Features Discussion « General Discussion 4/14/10 1:14:30 PM
good see you actually thought about the most important question you can ask in Eve
"What do I want to do in this game?"
and then looked into how that could be achieved, most people don't 'get Eve' because they don't do that vital step.
Combat missions aren't an unachievable goal in the 1st few weeks of playing. There's a player run channel called "Help my Mission" where assistance can often be found if you find you've bitten off more than you can deal with, this also introduces the other important part of the game -- Network and Contact building.
Another player ran endevour is Eve Univercity which runs realtime pvp training groups, which gives you access to relatively painless pvp experiences (Yes your ship will probably get blown up, and it's important to experience it at least once)
Enjoy the rest of your stay.

EVE Online: Survivor Guy: New Eden - Week One

Wrong on so many levels ..
There are a finite number of skills in the game, and only those that affect the ship your in AND it's fittings apply, the rest are IRREVALENT in pvp 16million SP in Missile Skills do not help an Abaddon pilot in the slightest 44million SP in Science and/or Industry skills do not help ANY pilot in (ship based) pvp
In Eve 1 5yr old vet versus 25 5day noobs = 1 dead/fleeing vet In wow 1 5month old vet vs 25 5day noobs = 25 dead noobs (as they CANNOT hit the "veteran" player at all) |

Ive played eve on & off for a few years Forget what you are used to in other games like Wow, EQ, Warhammer etc etc.
Eve has no 'pvp duel' system Eve has no pvp arena or battleground
Eve favours the 'Gank' mentality, it always has and it always will If your alone you are a 'victim waiting to happen'

You can insure your ship but not the things attached to or in it
You can insure your clones skillpoints but not the implants the clone has plugged in.
Ship Insurance comes in a few flavours from None to Full None - gets you a brand new shiny 'noobship' Full - generally gets you more than you paid (but not always) Clone insurance starts at None aswell, then ramps up in cost by SP preserved None - you will lose some of any Skill Points aquired over 900,000 |

Eve contrary to popular belief, has grinding Missions for ISK/Standings ... it's grinding Mining .. it's grinding Skill Training ... your grinding in REAL TIME
and so on ... Start with the beginner agents, run through all the tutorial agents, they'll cover everything from PVE missions, exploration, Manufacturing and Mining to simulated pvp with the newest additions. By working through all of them, you'll have the chance to see which aspect of eve you enjoy the most, your goal then becomes to be 'good' at that aspect. Unlike every other you've ever played before, Eve takes research, patience and planning, there is very little in it that provides standard MMO instant gratification. |

There isn't such a list available ...
sorry but you'll have to make it yourself from 1 of the several online map sources
EveHQ - has a built in map tool, that lists stations as well as the agents (if any) found there Ombey's 2d Maps (gate routes are shown as they appear on the ingame map's 'flattened view') DOTLAN evemaps (gate routes are shown linearly (similar to the London Underground Tube Route Map))
