Having an 'Account Bank' for storing ingame $ possibly items, can help minimise the 'lack of progression' feeling permadeath can give. Whats on your corpse can be classed as gone, but frequent visits to the banker before you die can ensure your next character has a decent toehold on survivability.
I don't think the concept of playstyle would actually deter many people, but "Grief Play" definately would marr any chance a game using this system would have of getting good/decent comments.
Paranoia used permadeath in an extremely enternaining way, and theres probably 1 or 2 others from the pen&paper days that did too.
I would enjoy PvE and equal(ish) PvP, but getting slaughtered by a highlevel griefer would seriously pee me off. |

It is NOT going to be a F2P model game. It will be a multitierd payment model :- Monthly subs for all the really good stuff :- No subs for access to basic stuff
You are NOT paying for free content .. YOU GET FREE CONTENT that everyone else has to PAY for !!
As you seem to be totally missing the point i'll repeat it for again, slowly and in small simple words .......
You are NOT paying £75 for free content ... YOU GET FREE CONTENT everyone else has to PAY for. |

I played it for 2 months .. (I got an extra month free from them, for all the hassles i had with bugs)
It was a pretty decent game, Group based stuff was good fun.
Flight/Aerial Combat was the most underwhelming aspect really.
There was plenty of content for me to level on, so i never really understood the 'it has no content' threads. All mmo's have bots/macro's somewhere, so this was a non-issue for me.
I did some small-scale pvp'ing, some classes were much better than others, but most MMO's are the same.
It turned out there was a robed figure telling me 'This is not the game you looking for', and i left. |

Is there a market for old school gamers?
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 6/01/10 6:29:27 AM
Developers can only work on content that they are given the budget to work on. That budget is provided by publishers.
Publishers set deadlines, indirectly limiting content as features and ideas are dropped, or partially implemented, to make sure the deadline is met.
Publishers don't care if it's the "best game ever!!". Publishers don't care about dynamic character led content or dynamic player controlled economies. Publishers don't care about RvR, PvPvE or pvp balance.
Publishers do care (very much so) about making $'s. It's the sole reason they will invest and finance a dev team, that they will make more $ than they put in.
Unfortunately Publishers are a necassary evil as they drive the industry forward by providing the funds the industry needs during the development stage. |

I've always enjoyed the extra challenge inherant in the Hard Core mode of Online games like Diablo/Sacred The communities were far more helpful, constructive and just generally nicer than thier normal mode counterparts
HC WoW would be a disaster ......... for most people. Stranglethorn Vale is an area that provides a perfect example of the 'pvp griefer' mentality that pervades the riskfree pvp mechanics of every MMO out there.
tbh it's not the games that need to change. |

General: Game Tutorials & How We Learn
News & Features Discussion « General Discussion 5/19/10 7:59:35 PM
It's going to be tough to get a decent shift towards balancing the learning styles in tutorials ....
For reasons you've already stated, the majority are explorers.
And they will bitch up a storm on game forums about how much 'xyz game sux !!!11one1'
They will bitch and whine, because they are selfish, they dont care about your enjoyment, what's in it for them is paramount...
But then again I don't actually care how bored they are with repetition in a tutorial, I'm only interested in whats good for me. |

A fresh take on permadeath- What do you think of this concept?
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 5/18/10 2:10:12 PM
It's something i enjoyed a lot with some online co-op modes of SP games like Diablo and Sacred.
Whilst they were fun in standard SP mode, and slightly more fun in co-op ... Hard Core added a whole dimension of exitement due to the finality an error, or lag-spike could bring. HC communities were on the whole much better aswell.
It's not something that could be easily imported into a regular mmo, even though it's addition seems logical and the 'right thing'
Equipment availability ... it's either quested (via non-repeatable quests) for, or bought from other players at humungous prices ... neither of which support the process of 1 death = re-roll. Most players would quickly start to whine 'it's too hard' ... 'it's too grindy' and other similar complaints High level players ganking of lower level players on pvp focused servers really would discourage the adoption of a system like this
in short, i think that only mostly older gamers, that remember the long gone days of literally "Impossible to complete" games would enjoy it, the younger/newer additions to the gaming community have been spoonfed to much with easy games and quick reward systems to fully adapt and actually enjoy it. |

EVE v.s Black Prophecy wich one would u like 2 play more?
General Discussion « Black Prophecy 5/12/10 10:04:38 PM
I'll probably play both seeing as they are two completely different types/styles of game ...
When i want fast-paced FPS style action I'll play BP When I don't I'll play Eve
It's a win-win scenario for me.
[edit] I like BP's customisable modular ship concept ... that could be interesting to play around with :D The choice of just 2 factions does seem a little limiting ... and if it's PvP based and lot's of players go 1 way it's gonna suck to be the other Faction ... systems with 3 Factions (all 3 playable or just 2 playable & 1 AI) generally seem to offer better balance overall. Creepiest game zone you've been in?

Anarchy Online - Omni Entertainment 1
The 1st MMO i ever played. I left the light and airy backyard and then entered this massive oppressive dark & steelygrey area, during the night-cycle which made it even more dark and oppressive ...
I was lost and confused, and had to be rescued by a GM :D
