The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 3/18/11 7:06:58 AM
Once I figured out the game - Anarchy Online. Before that is was EQ, couldnt quite get my head around the graphics & thousands of people online all at one time. Was great running around talking randomly to people aged 17 :P |

Anarchy Online: AO Universe Developer Interview
News & Features Discussion « General Discussion 2/19/11 3:45:30 PM
Sad to see this game dying.. was my much loved game for many years. Even more so knowing FunCom wont make a AO2. They already stated they have no intentsion to do so. Hope some developer see's the potentional for a new Anarchy Online in todays market. Truely do miss the days when a Enforcer could viably use 1HB, 2HB, Dirks aswell as 10 other things and still do a equally good job no matter what set up they picked. Same with many other class's in the game. Such a shame |

For those of you looking for an honest Preview/Review...
General Discussion « Earthrise 2/14/11 1:19:15 PM
Ive been following this game very closely since it was announced. Once a release date was set I was sooo close to purchasing. Im glad I holded back an wait for a couple of months. The main reason to this was I had very simler experience with Anarachy Online launch. I loved that game and played it untill 2006/7. Since Ive been looking for something to replace it, with no luck. I hope they figure it out quickly before it becomes a dead land.
Good review btw! |

I got it about a week ago. The games combat is actually really, really fun. Think its cause its fast paced compared to many other MMO's ive played. Got to Level 30 in 4-5 days. After that I found myself running raids, which got boring quickly. Even the PvP got boring, it needs more content an some bug fix's. As of today I personally unsubbed. I wont be uninstalling it just yet, im gonna watch the game and see how it goes. Alot of bugs and lack of content made me cancel mine. Oh yeah, an combat, combat an MORE combat. Entertaining for a while but soon wares off. Good idea's, more content an bug fix's pretty much sums it up for me. I might return in the future. |

What is so innovative about dynamic events?
General Discussion « Guild Wars 2 9/02/10 5:58:58 AM
Using the quest example given earlier ....
In ALL current mmo's PQ's and quests are static. If you kill 10 ogres, the village is still there If you don't kill 10 ogres, the village is still there
In GW2 If you don't kill 10 ogres the village is GONE
Are you spotting what's different yet ....... ?? |

Yes AO is old, with an old top-heavy playerbase as a plus you can try the game as a "froob" and if you like it subscribe.
froob = 'free noob'
The mythical graphics update may even happen 1 day. |

MMO's are based on Pen & Paper role playing games, in those questing was pretty much all you did.
Thats all they have in common though, in an MMO a quest is a rigidly defined single event (possibly repeatable) but in the pen&paper original a quest was random and dynamic because it all happened in the limitless expanse of human immagination. Thats the fundamental reason for the difference between the 2 events although they use the same mechanic 1 is limitless, unpredictable and random 1 is limited, predictable and fixed
Current hard/software technology will not give us the scope of pen & paper whilst online, and not for a long time. |

As far as I can tell all thats changed since SC & SC:BW is the graphics and system requirements
2 styles of play 10 years ago 2 styles of play today.
DoW, C&C and SC were all basically the same game ... and all 10 years old Ground Control is 5 years old. SC2 is almost identical to SC DoW2 has more in common with GC than DoW
SC2 is a reused pile of 10 year old garbage. |

Hmmmm ...
Someone who plays ANY mmo for 5 years, SHOULD have an advantage over someone who's only played it for a few months. That is perfectly fair, and I see absolutely nothing wrong with it occuring. It could be an advantage of Wealth/Resources, Ship and Fitting choices, or tactical experience in pvp/pve situations. But the same willl be true of ANY mmo.
So our 5yr Vet has crosstrained for 4 races upto Battleship. So he has Large [xyz] Weapon's trained He has completed fitting, tanking, Targetting & navigation skill training.
He is part of a 3 man, Frigate roam. You (the 5 month newb) and your 6 friends in Frigates/Destroyers bump into them in a 0.2 system. In Eve numbers dictate victory ....
The vets skills in Cruisers, Battleships, Medium weapons and Large weapons provide him with NO benefits at all. His skills in Trading, Science, Industry & Manufacturing DO NOT HELP in the above scenario. But those skills in Trading, Science, Industry & Manufacturing ARE his advantege in the game over you.

Guild Wars 2: Character Progression Information
News & Features Discussion « General Discussion 7/30/10 8:39:34 AM
Actually I intensly dislike level based gameplay...
GW mostly met my dislike, as the L20 cap was very quickly achieved, which then left me to focus on content exploration, skill aquisition and build development and testing.
I play Eve because there are only 'skill levels' ... my character is defined by the skills I have aquired, not some arbitrary 'xp level'.
I have played, EQ2, Wow, Conan, WH & Aion, and they were intensely level based. Equipment restricted by Level Content restricted by Level Skills/abilities restricted by Level
Some people prefer and enjoy this 'playstyle' .. that is thier choice, I have tried it and it leaves me feeling restrained, restricted and limited in my options. |

Point 1 The main aim of a relationship, be it a "1 night stand" to a long term live-in/marriage based one, is sex ...... There is no sex in MMO's, therefore the concept is pretty pointless and irrevelant within an MMO environment.
Yes i know there is cybering ... but that's just the sad, lonely losers that don't get any in real life.
Point 2 This is a viewpoint that may upset you, I don't care if it upsets you. As previously established in Point 1, people engage in relationships to procure the opportunity for sex, and sex is a major driving force (and most likely the biggest driving force) in human nature.
Back in the days of 'cavemen' and 'hunter gatherers' life was incredibly harsh, life was a daily fight for survival, by developing attachments to other members within the social group, life is made a little easier, because you are more likely to help someone you 'care' about. Emotional attachment (also known as Love) is not gender specific, ie any man or woman can develop an emotional attachment to any other man or woman. This does not make you "gay" in of itself.
Nature is sneaky, sex feels good for a reason, by making sex feel really really nice, nature ensures that you will keep going back for more.
When you consider both elements highlighted in yellow, it becomes fairly obvious they are very different to each other. A man loving another man or a woman loving another woman, is not unnatural, nature built us that way to increase our chances of surving to breeding age. However same sex sex-acts, are unnatural, as two men (or woman) alone cannot concieve or give birth to the next generation. |

I have a question...why do we all have the same looking guns?
Jita (General) « EVE Online 7/24/10 5:57:05 AM
Try putting a Medium or Large gun onto a frigate ....
the CPU/PG isnt important .... you just need the skill to be able use said gun.
That will highlight the 'model' differences if there are any. |

Jita (General) « EVE Online 7/23/10 11:17:29 AM
Most of Eve's trailers are designed and built by 'graphic artists' and only give a tiny nod in the direction of standard ingame mechanics. And most of the trailers they have made have been awesome, they just don't accurately portray the actual ingame playing environment.
Fleet battles show ships being hit in all locations on thier surfaces, ingame there are limited hit spots. Ships moving with wsad style movements, ingame it's all straight lines.
Missile explosions that originate from the inside of the ship. 2d Explosion effect. Missiles that appear from nowhere when fired.
These are only minor complaints with the design element of the game, they don't make it broken or unplayable, they just reduce the overall 'ooooh shiney' effect the game gives.

The minor detail people (including me) have missed out. Appearance.
Would you feel happy/comfortable with looking at something that resembles a flying penis or an upsidedown shoe, for almost all your playing time ...
Preview the different ship lines, see which you like looking at the most. Mission Running -> Frigate, Cruiser, BC & BS Trading#1 -> Industrial/Freighter Trading#2 -> Covert Ops (T2 Frigate), Transports (T2 Industrial) |
