Scripted Sequences has nothing to do with a game being dumbed down, it's done to make a game more cinematic. A scripted environment gives the developer the option to make very epic battles. That's why games like Crysis have impressive AI, but don't have any epic battles whatsoever.

Quick Time Events are annoying, but they have nothing to do with control limitations and are also present on the PC. The reason for that is once more, cinematic gameplay. The game that invented it was actually an Arcade Game, Dragons Lair. It was actually a cartoon. During the Cartoon, players had to press a button at the right time or else the main character would die. If you hit the button at the right time, the movie continues playing.

It was recently made popular again by God of War, which used it for cinematic finishing moves which would be impossible to program to be pulled off by the player.

I hope you enjoy your 2009 FMV games.

If you actually games with less interactivity, and more automatic sequences, you don't want to play games, you want to watch games that move automatically.  Buy a DVD, not a game device.

Theres a problem with the banner on the left ( the one that is box  shaped )

Wen it show "Dragon Age", If you click, you go to www.test.com.   I suppose the banner is not wellconfigured.

Since advertising is what pay the bills of this site, and we all love this site, I hope this problem is fixed :-)

Is just sad that there are people out here playing FPS with pads.  A control pad is NOT a good device.  Thats why these people need the games dumbed down, thats why there are soo much  autoaim,  scripted sequences ( Quick Time Events) and Third Person View games.   Since the pad is soo horrible control device, the game sould be a 20% played by the machine automatically.  On the PC the player has the 100% of the control to the character, so we can aim, shot and move exactly how and where we can.

REAL GAMERS sould stop playing in consoles.

:-)

(-:

I love easymode all the way along ( I even have singer that to my rol friends ), but this is getting ridiculous. I want challenge!.

I agree with the comments made by metalhead980

also, about Obvlivium,  the combat gets slighty more fun after a while

For something complex like a RPG is better a PC game.  Consoles are better for "arcade saloon" type of games that are played better with a pad or a joystick.

One of the cool things about SciFi is guns - plasma, laser, phaser, lightning, BFG, etc.  The crappy thing about every SciFi MMO is guns.  The problem is that when I whip out a laser pistol and shoot a parrot, I expect to create instant fried chicken, a puff of feathers, or a puff of smoke.  Instead, SciFi MMOs make you pewpew the frakkin bird from across the map until it's next to you poking your eyes out before you get it to corpse status.

Planetside had a similar expectation problem.  If I stick a chain gun into your bellybutton and pull the trigger I really don't think I'm going to miss over your shoulder, but that was how the Planetside chain gun worked.  What moronic creatures would create such a useless weapon, much less actually try to use it in combat?  A brick would be more effective.

The gun problem just blows chunks and basically pushes me to skip SciFi MMOs.

This is exactly why I've never been able to get into a sci-fi MMO. Sci-fi single players (kotor) aren't usually so much of a problem with immersion. Giving someone the opportunity to single shot (counterstrike Awp) someone/something else in an MMO makes that class very overpowered.

Planetside is full of instakill moments. Mostly If you do something wrong. Say... tanks sells can kill infantry,  wisp (air) too,  light tanks can be killed by a single shot too.   Other stuff can really damage most people. Snipers don't instakill, but the next shot will.

"On September 25th, the MMO industry turned 12 years old. In 1997, Origin launched Ultima Online and while it wasn’t the first multi-player RPG (MUDs) or even the first one with graphics (Meridian 59), it was the first commercially visible game to hit the market and set off a chain of events that led to more half assed, poorly translated imported MMOs than anyone can possibly imagine."

What about the original NWN on AOL which is considered by some people the first MMO?

http://www.bladekeep.com/nwn/index2.htm

No matter what game I picked, I knew someone was going to one up me on the origin date ;)

We can debate this forever. I picked UO because, in my opinion, it was the first major, commercially visible graphical MMO. Arbitrary? Sure, but it's where I'm measuring from... and it's my article ;)

HAHA... I feel soo proud of my mmorpg.com forumteammates :-)

we can one up anyone :-)

As I did, on one eye.

No, I didn't play a long time, no I didn't exhaust my eyes etc.

I swear before God all this is true, and only the justifiable. In october 2008 I played WOW in one instance when a female char with pink or purple pirate like hat made a buff. In the same moment I saw blind round circle in center of one of my 2 eyes.

And today im blind on one eye.

Thank you , well can happen in 1 out 10 million cases.

Have fun rather outside.

Huumm...   thanks.

I think I will continue playing Videogames.  I have tried "base jumping" but it take too long to get to the jump height, for just 10 seconds of fun.

You post seems to say that the only solution for these problems is the one games today use.

Well.. I disagree.  There are other options, and more can be invented.  The world of what is possible is not limited for what is exist, or what a single dude (like you or me) can imagine.

These problems needs better solutions, because the current solutions suck.  And are killing the genre.

I am here because I like MULTIPLAYER COOPERATIVE ROLE PLAY GAMES,  and today games have zero multiplayer, zero cooperativo, zero roleplay, and as a game are a joke, more like a activity than a game, since poking spells to a mob is predictible, and boring, and repetivie and boring, and boring and boring and boring and boring. AND BORING.

Can we get games where 1 dude kills 30 mobs, please? , Tabula Rasa was somewhat like that, but was nerfed for no reason.

 You misses Planetside!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You can expect the quality and polish of Blizzard products to decrease over the years with a/an (insert various expletives here) like him running Activision.

This is why we don't get innovation.  This is why we get crappy products that should have never been released and are forced to beta test games.

Forcing release dates and making game developers have to worry about the business end of things isn't exactly conducive to creativity.

How much longer do major companies EA and Activision need to keep at this before gamers start boycotting games?  They keep advocating raising the prices of games yet they force unfinished products out the door and make sequel after sequel.

I wouldn't blame Blizzard for being bought out by Activision.  I don't believe they had much say it in.  Blizzard used to be owned by Vivendi and they are probably the ones that handled the merger.

Gamers can destroy EA, but EA can destroy gamers.

Lowering the quality works both ways:  people expect less and less and less.  The next thing you know, you can sell "Reality TV" and "Fast Food" and people accept these things.

Its almost already history now in gamming.  With annual "madden" releases and Ubisoft generic rubish overhyped tittles.

DOTA is the manifestation of a game based on a veeeery long learning curve, with a million details to know and understand, and this combined with a gameplay where a newbie players radically unbalance a game.  Is just bad design, a "perfect storm" that make it incredible harsh on newbies and casuals...   I think is a poor gameplay.

I find it strange that It don't ask If you are a journo, or something.   I expect this to be fake, and a real beta applications to show later.   And with fake I mean.. yea, is the real thing, but I don't think anyone on that list will be taken.

Looks great. I don't know, maybe there are very few card gamers...

I have played games where the classes where unbalanced, and is more fun than these games where the games are balanced AND all fell the same.

I don't see the appeal for balanced classes. As a gamer, I get more fun with unbalanced classes.

Is a good game to play with friends, but my friends don't play it :-/

I have  13  five years old childrens. Is this game safe for childrens?

I am looking at the "concept art", and I see human bones. And what look like a demon. Are you guys good cristians?

do trees grow again now? :-)
