Do mmorpg games make *ANY* sense playing solo?

seriusly...  presss  1, 3 , 3, 3, 3,3,3,3,2,3,3,3,3,3,2,,3,3,3,31, this the monster is dead. Try again with the next.

I can write a tiny Perl script to replace such "gameplay".  Is that even playing a videogame? It looks more like that movie of charles chaplin "Modern Times".

In a group you talk with other people, and try big challenges, and get fat loot.   How is this even COMPARABLE to the horrible boredoom that is soloing?

There are only 40 levels so that eases the pain I am sure. But also the combat structure does mean you have to be very alert while you play so it engages me more then other mmo's. And much of the content is desigend for groups. In groups the combat is great and feels perfect to me.

WTF?

Alert?

Theres nothign to do in the game, just press the same 3 or 4 buttons, theres not strategy, nothing.  Theres more strategy in a bad game lilke Dungeon Siege.

The way the game plays now, is unplayable to me.

I was impressed by the videos of screenshots, so I downloaded the game the game,.....  what I see on the game is more than my expectations. I really like what I see from a graphic POV.   But the combat. ... IS TERRIBLE!!.. why o why?  putting so boring and slow combat on a beatifull game is a insult!.   Hope the good guys of Allods change this thing.  Man, It just need a few changes in a database, changing NPC speed here and there (why everything enters mele so fast?) and making killing.. he... more fun, and faster.

I know theres a billion of MMORPG games with potential, but here we have a MMO that just need 1 hour of work tweaking combat speed to make it fun, to have a winner.

It looks very old graphics but fun. Thanks for the tip! :-)

There are also fantasy with future settings, like Star Wars.   SW is fantasy.

I am just so tired of this neolithic way of quest giving, and prolly I am spoilt by 5 years into EQ2, where almost every damn little sidequest NPC talks in lipsynch voice to you. I swear I am so done with this boring reading.

Adding to that,  is cheap to change the text of a quest, but If you enter voice actors, is much more expensive.

"But not always – many MMORPGs create a new 3D engine for their client as well. An optimist would note that this saves on licensing fees and in any event even the most heavily used third-party 3D engine such as Unreal requires a good deal of work to be turned into a useable MMORPG client. A pessimist would think that it is the thinly-veiled desire of every 3D programmer to write their own engine and become the next John Carmack on your budget’s dime."

humm...   often using or adapting something existing can be more expensive than creating it from scratch. So is not a easy decision from the tecnical view.

From the bussines view, if your MMO use the same tools as the competence, It could be hard to deliver a different experience. So, do it make sense from a bussine pov?

Is not a easy as you say.

Dragon Age is a interesting game,  big and full of quest and things to do and conquer.  Much better than any MMORPG, but this is not saying much since as a RPG most MMORPG games are garbage.

After a million  World War 2 movies, I don't feel like watching another normal WW2 movie.

After a million MMORPG games... I don't feel the need to play more "MMORPG" games. Not only the genre is more shallow now, but I have learn to see how shallow has always been.  There are also different styles of MMORPG, but the companys insist to producing the same style of game.

The MMORPG world don't need a million WoW clones, only need 1 WoW, and 1 EVE, and 1 Planetside, and 1 "Diablo" and 1 "Baldurs Gate".

If anything... we have to blame on the gamers than insist to play poor games, because the popularity factor.

The success of WoW has attracted  a million fools and his money, that want to create another wow.

As a result, we have a million wow clones, and most of these suck.

PLEASE STOP IT.  Use the money more wisely, maybe make a serie of good Singleplayer games for the PC, maybe a single MMO, that has a novel idea.  Stop reiterating the wow idea, and wasting enough money to build a colony in Mars.

Final Fantasy XI. Playing that game ruined other MMO's for me; I can't stand the horrible skipping animations anymore in other games.

Humm??? ... If pre-render and cutscenes counts ...   I say  "Dragons Lair" FMV game.

While I am sure it will be a good game I am really worried about a few things.

...

  • Emo inter-party dialog - I don't care if Draco, the barbarian took offense to my unkind words when talking to the beggar. I am also not caring whether or not Feathermoon, the druid has a crush on me and wants to get it on.

I love these dialogs.

Is part of what make games like Baldurs Gate awesome, and something to remenber OUR WHOLE FUCKING LIFE.  If I live 100 years, I will never forget the volcalizations of Viconia, Imoena and all :-)

I like grouping, I don't like raiding or soloing.

While New Gamers , will seek to be a Hero to escape from the "Normal" life . But as they gain experience in the world of gaming , they will find out that its far more satisfying to Earn the title of Hero through your unique personality and actions , rather than just pressing the "Enter World" button.

the journey is longer if you start as a "no one" and you fight your way to the top... If you want to go there.

me approves Lord Shinoby message.

Nothing in this thread has changed my opinion, nor the boycott has changed any people opinion. But I did what I think is the right thing.  Now. I think I will remove my failcom avatar and use a normal one.

I hope that Funcom has luck, and future games are sucessfull, and players are happy.

Thanks guys for your feedback :-)

I think playing a thief is the right thing to do. You see something, is your, get it.. maybe run to avoid the older owner.  But magic is interesting, levitate,  mezz people, you can steal more stuff with that powers. Also a good fireball can be really helpfull in a bar fight...

To the best of my knowledge, City of Heroes/Villains was one of the first mainstream MMO's to implement "User Created Content",

It was normal in the MUD world.  The "EndGame" of some muds was the passwords to enter "edit mode" to create new areas, spawn monsters, and generally play "Godlike" powers.

Me, like others, feel robbed by Age of Conan. Lied repeteadly with false promises of patchs, miracle patchs, content, on a linear game with a abrupt end on nothingness.

As a result some people started to use a custom avatar with the name of Funcom replaced by Failcom.

But, time have pased,  .... Age of Conan is #78 or something like that in popularity has a game. Some people got fired, first a head, and recently some normal people  :-(

I even have started to recomend again it, with huge caveats about it, what to expect, and what not to expect.

So... we sould stop this boycott, and start using again normal avatars?
