Help me decide between WoW and Vanguard.
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 11/27/09 2:58:37 AM
go wow there is not another game out there worth your 15 bucks a month no matter what play style you prefer . personally i really get sick of folks sayig how easy WOW is, sure you can roll to 80 pretty smooth however thats where game really starts when you start gearing up for raids and what not. as far as question and stuff goes its enjoyable but i prefer battlegrounds . folks used to say eq was hardest game to get levels in i dissagree wow is if you actually play game and not get run throughs or help its alot harder to roll to 80 on wow then in everquest , but then again i played eq for almost 10 yrs so i might be seeing it the same as a wow vet sees wow. either way you cant go wrong with blizzard , sony will just annoy you with there cash grab stuff

Eq will always hold that special place for me however now adays the evil foks at sony are killing the franchise imho with the rampent abuse of lon stuff for there games, they create content for there tcg and not as much for the game itself and the final straw for me was there little instance they created that was only achievable by getting a random loot card in the tcg. not to mention anything cool has to be paifd for now adays with real moneys

world of warcraft, because no other game offers so much for my 15 bucks a month. used to play everquest until sonly finally crossed my own personal line by designing content for eq that could only be gleaned by the game of chance (Lon) trading card game. |

Returning to WoW its been fun but i wish there was the option to play on an adult server because the game seams to be inundated with rude children .
General Discussion « World of Warcraft 11/02/09 7:49:39 AM
Hmm, I find it really easy to ignore them and frankly if it wasnt for the kiddies the game would probebly be kinda boring . yes there are jerks in every mmo i guess im lucky not to have to deal with them or when i do run across them i just ignore them and keep doing my thing. lets face it you can grind to 80 alone in wow so finding one or 2 friends and doing it cant be that hard. just remember most of the folks who you would think were children are over 20 and just use the net as a excuse to be assholes. |

Warhammer Online : Age of Reckoning: Basics of Crafting and Gathering
News Discussion « General Discussion 1/08/09 8:41:39 AM
well personally i feel there crafting for there game is just right , i mean cmon folks the people who play warhammer dont play it for the rp or the crafting aspect . i have been playing it a short while and honestly i cant really blame mythic for anything when it comes to there lack of immersiveness i blame the players, this game attracts the some of the worst bottom feeders of society as does most other pvp games, you know the folks who deep down inside wanna stick it to the other guy for a change and enjoy reaping instant gratification on others misery.yes i know not everyone there is that way but take for example if these players were there for a fair fight then why do so many look for the chance to gank and go 3 to one with unfair odds . Chaos is a zergfest and order expects everyone else to win there battles for them while they run around like helpless lemmings being picked off one by one as they run back into the slaughter . yes those type of folks usually dont craft and the folks who are here to enjoy a rp expeirence need probebly to move on to elsewhere. mythic knew the player base and designed the game for such folks. people can say what they like about planetside but at least they didint try to be anything more then they weren't. :) flame on if you like but if you are a pvp person, at heart ask yourself why you enjoy it .I love pvp but it feels all the more rewarding when i take a guy down in a fair fight. |

Hmm next generation? no I would say there wont be a next generation for MMO's Because it was truely a marketing ploy that has seen its hayday and slowly dying because of greed. I still remember the reason folks talked me into actually paying for a game monthly , 1, free updates and expansions 2,game bugs would get fixed because game was ever evolving therefore they would fix them constantly 3,level your char and get to keep it forever, yeah at least you can log into ghost towns and feel uber by yourself.
now we have evolved to item malls, soe cash and rmt. lets see out of those three i think mmo delivered on one promise , thats until they shut the servers down |

General Discussion « Darkfall 12/29/08 6:35:07 AM
Originally posted by Coman I was being sarcastic toward the OP, as he stated `Have they mentioned anything on how us westerners can obtain a copy of Darkfall` indicating that Europe would is not part of the western civilization. I hoped most poeple would have actualy understanded that part, becouse I am pretty sure every european is aware that they are part of the western civilization. Anyhow, A link from the official darkfall forum asking the same question. http://forums.darkfallonline.com/showthread.php?t=96102 Not to derail this but I have always understood that you would be considered european and in days of extremely old you were westerners (before the discovery of the americas) but now westerners are americas.? just not sure :) |

I have found the same thing and usally it can be attributed to the fact its really tuff to find groups or reason to group. you dont get the same feel fromm mmo now adays as games of old when you actually had to group to get rid of yard trash. not saying old way was so hot either because as game aged it got increasingly harder to get anything done. that said i think its the way with all games now adays not that its a bad thing its just the way it is. |

EverQuest II: Station Cash in EQ and EQ2
News Discussion « General Discussion 12/16/08 5:20:45 PM
the hundred SOE flame threads on this forum alone: So why is it that every time Sony does anything even remotely contentious or innovative in this stagnant genre (for better or worse) there's this unprecedented kneejerk reaction from their gaming community? Out come the pitchforks and flaming torches, and mob mentality takes over. It's become fashionable to hate SOE and attribute them the role of 'villain' in the MMOsphere, but the truth is many will embrace these changes and many more will choose to ignore them and go about their gaming lives unaffected by them. The sky is not falling. More than anything, I pity those who decide to stop playing a game they love simply through some misguided sense of moral outrage or social injustice. At the end of the day they're mostly hurting themselves.
OK this is not how i see this Exp potions are not fluff when part of the fun of the game is leveling quicker then others dont this put a unfair advantage on the have vs the have nots? i think this is the first step to alot of other things now if they want to make the game free then do rmt then they can join the other mmo,s but to me they are taking updates that were supposed to happen in mmo and putting them towards charged items. in 2000 when i started everquest i was told that the reason we paid for a mmo was so that they would add more content for free because we were paying a monthly fee, what is it 13 paid expansions later and there are still imcomplete quests from the original game and places on the map never opened? RIP sony please sell Eq to people who cared what the original game was about ! |

The things that the testers warned would kill this game...have.

That this game failed wasn't SOE fault. The devs didn't listen to the beta testers, that kills a lot of game. In the AoC beta forum many testers warned about releasing to early and I heard the same happened in the WAR forums. While some testers might be wrong, all are never. Just Blaming SOE for everything they publish isn't really fair even though they should check it up better before signing anything. Vanguard and SWG are their fault but not this. ok lets be clear vanguard wasnt sonys fault remember sigil? 5 or so years for a unpolished broken game? swg clearly sony had something to do with it but again i think lucas arts might be to blame here as well potbs not sonys fault asshats never listened and im major ticked i loved this game as something different the avatar combat was a joke every city looking same was a joke pirates having economy was a joke they tried to be everything to everyone and noone liked it. now my biggest gripe with sony is the friggun way they used gambling as a cash cow with there tcg and then turned around and gave henchmen to eq killing what was left of group game then to add another nail they added rmt to the game thus ending my dealings with all soe products except planetside wich im sure they willdo something to screw that up soon enuff. |

you know alot of folks here have stated these games were crappy but were they? i mean if you had never played a mmo in your life and came upon one of these games how would they be judged? i have often wondered of we old hats havent been around the block one too many times and are all a wee bit biased on what would make a mmo fun and not. as far as buggy releases all games that are mmo have been buggy at release for someone some worse then others but i have to be honest, When i started EQ! in june of 2k it waqs a year old and extremely buggy yet i could not put the game down, when anarchy online came out it too was very buggy yet i couldnt put the game down , not as long as eq but it was appealing and i feel i recieved my moneys worth. when Daoc came outy my son had his first mmo experience and to this day holds a soft spot for doac that i held for Eq. now adays there is wow and for some reason i dont feel any other fantasy game does it as well and hold my interest nearly as well as Wow. is it a good game ? you decide but it was buggy and laggy when it hit the streets as well, yet it had that strange hook on me that eq used to have. no game in 2008 had that feeling. Regardless of what genre of mmo if it dont hook it will die so hopefully in 2009 they come out with a new hook if not i have a feeling alot of us will be going outside more. |

I wish we knew more like is this a developement cycle thats dragging them down or a week currency , or loss of sales only? as with any business there can be several factors that can explain but reporters just go for the one big line. |

I beg to differ, a long time ago I too thought that hardcore style PvP and harsch death penalties was the only way to do a sucessful MMO. Fair enough, those games had a few advantages over WoW but I consider myself today a reformed gamer. Heavy PvP consequences does restrict the availability of PvP, there'll be less quantity of it and for that sake not saying more quality. Main problem with WoW was the grind IMO, because the grind in WoW was never fun or interesting. You always have the feeling that you can't play the game until you reach max level or have farmed X ammounts of honor, unlike in games like Everquest where some people never hit the max level and yet were enjoying themselves. Wow PvE is the best PvE content I've ever experienced, however they made it ridiculously hard to access. It's just now that they've lowered the difficulty of encounters and in WOTLK most raid instances will be 10man, possibly Arthas (when his content is released) will be 25. I couldnt agree with your post more folks dont play games because they want a second job , planetside has the best pvp i know of for a mmo because there is no risks only rewards and levels really dont mean much as far as being able to jump right in to battle, counterstrike was the most popular fps for a reason the pvp was awsome and fun and again no risk just rewards . i was one as well who thought the journey was more fun then the end in pve games but sadly everyone rushes to top to be able to get the very best stuff and say what you like but quest based games kill a mmo because noone can stay the same levels and do same quests unless one person is restricting themselves. Everquest was so much funbecause back then before quest based games quests were just a side item of the game the real game was grouping and grinding and dungion crawling. |

alot more people like myself satarted in beginning played beta andf now are returning since the next greatest things since sliced bread failed to live up to exptations in the last 6 months (insert your failed game name here). game has healthy populations on antigua and economy seems to do well, i have been playing for last week and seen alot of good pvp. if elves /dwarves are wearing thin its a breath of fresh air and they are revamping avatar combat so that will be fixed shortly

I have sat here almost every night thinking of why and i can only guess is they have way too many servers and not enuff folks doing rvr and grouping up. also i feel its the newer players in mmo they just dont talk not sure why but they never reach out to others for groups and what not its easy to blame wow but i started noticing this shift in eq around 2001 when folks were going off to solo because it was quicker exp i think the carrot of hi levels dangled in front of folks makes them look for quickest path and instead of grouping making it quicker it slows some folks down. that said i long for a game that scvares me and makes me fall in love with it all in the same zone. |
