for example NCsoft mostly dont charge for xpacks except for CoX and GW

False. Most of their profit will come from the original game's box sales and the in game store. They'll probably release an expansion pack once every year or so.

So you say they make more profit of rewriting a game engine a new game system new classes etc then  making an xpack on an excisting engine and system? ya right..  if that was the case you will never see an xpack but gw3 gw4 etc.....

If Anet is lucky they break even on boxsales alone.

  • As a B2P game, the hype train is how they make money -- so it's no surprise they've gone nuts getting people hyped on a game where 100% of the income is based on suckering people into a box sale, vs. where most of the income can potentially come after the box sale

Dont sell lots of xpacs with just hype.

Just cause GW2 is B2P dusnt mean they dont have to deliver

Here is an idea NC, keep the bloody code secret you morons.

How can you keep the code secret from the people that make the code? as they are the ones that supposedly stole it.

I know very well what happen, but this goes beyond money and reason. They are just doing this now to get payback when they left the company to start with. NCsoft have had all the time to take this case up, and they decide to do it now, and for what?

If NCsoft wins they can just sit back then and say: "Awesome, that was great we made them loose this case, now they can't release their game because it's our material, now we'll have no worries when we release Guild Wars 2"

... ye great, thx NCsoft, you sure did need that

They didnt sue just now, NC and BHS are in court for years already

NCSoft has to prove that the source code stolen was proprietary information.  I don't know how it works for other companies like NCSoft, but a person working on proprietary  projects must sign a form stating that if they leave, what they're working on is the companies.  This is what NCSoft has to prove.  If they can't, then there won't be a leg to stand on.

They already did in Korea and won most of it, thats why they now do it too in the u.s.

They did, they never got me hyped to play the game before launch, tried some beta and still didnt get me hyped to play the game post launch so cuddos to them

Market isnt over saturated, quite the opposite really, every mayor launch shows that people are interested in a new title, AoC and onwards all had over 1 million boxsales from start. so the market is there for the taking just no one have managed yet to keep a big amount of subs.

Why would the genre has such a need?

10M box sales = $400M

300k subs = $12M box sale + $54M sub fees a year. It will take 7+ years to make the same amount even if you don't count interest.

I would pick 10M box sales, even with NO retention, anyday any time.

If companies get $40 per box yes but they dont, they make more money from the subs then box sales in the long run so i rather have a healthy 300k subs.

The genre needs some devs that dare to fish in another pond instead of the same pond wow, rift, swtor etc are fishing in.

The fish are overcaught in that pond

I'm not a SW:TOR fanboy, I'm just concerned what will happen to the industry if a huge financial investment like TOR can't buy its way into the market.

If thats what they try to do then i do hope they fail and fail hard, you cant buy your way in, you have to deliver with a good product, if they do it that way then good for them and i hope they succeed regardless of the budget.

My thought is that games don't add swimming unless they have some sort of underwater content. It's probably unfair to point out SWToR in this regard when other games don't have it or have limited swimming.

I remember it being a big problem with Aion too on the forums .

Stopped watching after "Ive been playing SWTOR for about a week now, i dont know how many hours I've put in probably about 15 or so"

Only 15hrs playtime = Not a valid review. They wont have even got off the starter planets if they played all the content

Goes for all the other reviews as well

  • World feels lifeless - no detail work to make it feel like a living place, static mobs, no day/night, no weather, no sense of 'home away from home', etc.  Whole game feels very plastic, contrived and sterile.
  • Combat was strange - I didn't like all the cartoony mechanics such as the long leaps or tumbles into battle.  Did not like the way cover works on the smuggler where I see green ghosts of cover points.
  • Character animations are horrible, especially the running animation, and characters feel unsubstantial.
  • This game takes hand-holding to an all new level.  One doesn't have to do much thinking to play it.  Even the speeder travel system shows/tells you where to go for your quests.
  • VO quests were mostly fine, but they started getting on my nerves during standard questing.  Also, the VO appears to be the main focus of this game, and the gameplay in between  was just weak.

Same for me really, i didnt log in with any expectations or anything, after seeying the intro it looked really promising till you get into char costumisation and dropped in the most inspireless world ive ever been dropped in. VO were nice but dusnt make up for the lack of a real world feel imo

No dueling? 0_0

That is kind of sucky. Great casual way to practice pvp and its fun and exciting to duel friends and rivals. Also a roleplaying tool.

I hope they will promote it from their "wish list" to their "needs implementation asafp list".

And this line made me sigh a little:

"Therefore, all player characters in Guild Wars 2 are considered “good” and would never join one of the many “evil” organizations in Tyria."

You complain that pvp in gw goes against the lore but you do want them to implent a feature that you can battle against your own friends?

Have tried Runescape (I had to start somewhere lol)

Why do people do that and put down runescape? there is nothing to lol about, i wish more companies stole ideas from runescape instead of wow.

 3. Everyone and their mother knows what Star Wars is, not so much for Guild Wars outside the PC community.

Yet more people played guild wars then galaxys in the pc community which is the targed market

That's exactly the problem I have with this. For me only games with forced grouping throughout the whole game qualify as real MMORPGs. Nothing should be achievable solo.

Then force yourself to group, only play when you can find a team, if not log out.

problem solved.

Good, a lot less lootwhores in gw2 :)

if you dont like the system there are tons of other games that do give you your loot fix, or dont and you can complain on the forums about all those ninja rollers.

Pay to win games are garbage.

Whats the difference between buying couple cashshop items without a sub or finaly get the latest tier gear together after 8 months raiding which equals 8 times 15 dollars just so they toss on another paid expansion to start over again which you have to buy and again few months sub to obtain the next tier.
