Honestly I saw this coming... I went back to TR about four months ago to play it and see if anything had changed (I enjoyed the Hybrid races) but seeing how few people actualy played the game realy spoke volumes to the state of TR. When I went back to TR I found that you were lucky to run into another player and that grouping was almost impossible, honestly it reminded me of SWG and its many ghost towns (except these wern't player towns but NPC player hubs!). In the end I have to say NCsoft has a horrid record and now that Cryptic has left them I have very little faith in them as developers. I don't know much about Aion but based on NCsofts record I don't have much faith in it lasting longer than Everquest 2 rofl. NCsoft games killed: Auto Assault, Tabula Rasa SOE games killed: None (well no major ones... even planetside still runs) With that said I have more faith in SOE as a company than NCsoft... I know lots of people hate SOE but at least you can be assured your game will keep running unlike with NCsoft. Afterall everyone hates SWG and yet that game is still running. |

I haven't played it since beta but Pirates of the Burning Sea could be considered a sandbox... but judging from its lack of players I'd say its not the best one out there (or at least not the most well known). |

What hapened in Court PIX? anyone have an Update on DNL and court?

That is a good point... how can a court take anything from someone who has nothing? Sure anyone can randomly sue someone but if they have nothing to give than its pointless and I see what your saying in regards to that. |

Meh, maybe your right. After looking through the game book and seeing that I can make any alien I think of "mentioned in videos as well" I thought that broke from what many wanted to see in the game (plenty of extened universe races, why take the lazy way out?). Oh well, I guess I will wait and see what happens before throwing a chair out the window.
ROFL well if it sucks I'll help you toss a piano out a window. |

ROFL DnL is still around!? Seriously I payed to get into launch and was lucky to get out before any payment issues started happening... I'm supprised DnL is still around. As for this case, hopefuly justice wins this one and the guilty party is taken down... I just wish I could get my money back

Honestly its sad realy, UO was amazing and TR was... well not so amazing. If he still has the magic in any form or way he should get back to those roots and build another sandbox game, in my opinion its the only way for him to get a lead part in an MMO again, having his name on TR isn't helping as the game isn't even fun (it is for about a month but after that you realise how shallow it realy is). |

I have to second this, untill the game comes out we have no idea how good or bad it will be. It would be nice to see the game make everyone happy but sadly it won't. What I can say is like all major MMO launches STO will draw a large group of people. Many will rave about it being the best thing ever, more will hate its guts and spit on Cryptic's name untill their mouths are dry as the Santa Anna winds and in the end STO will live. I can say this because I have seen it happen to every major MMO since EQ1. Lets face it Cryptic can't please everyone and complaining about a game that is still in development is unproductive and lacks logic. With that said Wikked has a point, wait untill the game comes out and then complain. |

Well with WiS finaly on the horizon I've decided to make a return to the EVE universe. With that said one of the things I love and hate about EVE is community, what I mean is if you have a good one the game is great if you don't it can get lonely and boring. Personaly I'm looking for a Newbie friendly corp (I'm already know the basics of the game as I played back at launch and again about a year ago), aside from the basics however I don't know much about strip mining or manufacturing goods and selling them, but I would. I consider myself a "peaceful" person and would like a corp who seeks profit rather than conflict (I'm not against PvP but more often than not I lose at it rofl so I try to avoid it). Lastly with the release of WiS in the future to me it'll open up a whole new range of RP in EVE and I'd like to get into a corp that supports and encourages RP. I understand that is somewhat hard to do at the moment as all players are represented by a ship but a corp with a strong backstory, history and sence of community amongst the members would be wonderful! I will be rolling a new character so I'm willing to pick what ever faction my future corp supports though my favorites have always been Amarr and Min (I like drones also so Gal is always good). Thanks, and I look forward to making new friends in EVE once the server is back up! |

I still have to laugh at the concept of release dates... go look at the front page of mmorpg.com and look at the upcoming game list. The top five (with the exception of one) don't even have solid dates. Seriously now how is it that five or so games have the release date of "2008" when 2008 only has about a month and a half left in it. If these games plan on launching in 2008 (Darkfall is on that list) then your assumption is actualy based in pure logic, on the other hand all those dates could be a sad lie and they realy should say 2009 rofl.

EVE Online: Walking in Stations Presentation
News Discussion « General Discussion 11/11/08 4:36:38 PM
Honestly I'm rather excited about WiS, personaly not having a centeral avatar has kept me from commiting to EVE long term but with it on the horizon I've decided to give it another go. Personaly EVE has a very tought learning curve but so did StarQuest Online and I love that game. What makes me excited is the social aspects of WiS, the truth is I consider myself an RPer and I always had a lot of trouble finding ways and people to RP with in EVE since in reality all you were was a ship, but WiS will change that (I hope). |

I do have to agree with the OP, AoC can be a great game and I did have fun playing it but sadly its generaly unfinished. I also have to continue to agree that at launch (its been a few months since I've played AoC) its community was very pathetic in comparison to other games. I noted someone mentioned that its unfair to rate a game on community, but the fact is that MMORPGs are all about the community, afterall why play an MMO if you don't plan on playing with other people? Overall I found the comunity to generaly be filled with imature people (not all mind you but the majority), players who would randomly attack people in PvP or purposefuly create drama and pointless conflict in RP. When I played on Wiccana I was suprised at how large portions of the RP community felt like the rejects of the PvP community, and on the PvP/RP servers it was nearly impossible to RP as you'd always find a knife in your back or a fireball burning your skin off as you gathered with a friend or two to "talk". Overall the OP had a good sence of where the game stands, I can only hope that Funcom can turn it around and make it into a great game just like AO has been. |

I have to agree with what is said above EVE is WAY differnt. The developers even state you play as a person not a ship... EVE you play as a ship not a person. Honestly you realy can't compare to two games, one requires a great deal of team work and practice, the other requires money (in game) and connections. SQO is so origonal it stands alone, I can't think of any game that even comes close to it outside of UO in its very early days. |

All I can say is, I played the game for two months and stoped, I was going to come back a month ago and found out they were closing it... its a sad day. I'd like to see them bring it back/keep it, but I doubt it'll happen. I honestly wanted to reactivate my account so I could play it for one last month but NCsoft wont let me... so evil. |

Now I know that AA didn't have the huge community that games like CoX, WoW, EQ2, and LotRO have but I have to admit it was one of the best games that I have ever played. Now before you think I'm some fanboy or AA obsesed person I'm not, infact I only played it for two months before going back to CoV. The major issue that the game had to me was soloability, it was true that the game had low numbers and sadly it was built for players to group almost all the time. What would have helped for soloing as any class was a natural regen for your health (for all classes/races as this generaly seems to be the staple for MMOs save for DDO), as well as possibly a heal skill (stronger ones for the healer classes). Other than that the game was generaly well balanced and all the classes were fun to play. I'd say that AA's down fall is going to hurt a ton, not in a literal sence but the post apacolyptic style game may not show up for a while now, much less one based around driving... which was very cool. I think the last major issue and this could have been added over time was to create a "ground/walking" base for the game. Allowing you to clear a base exterior of baddies but then being forced out of the car to enter the base and attack on foot with guns/equipment/skills all that reflect your car class. All in all I would like to say that NCsoft has a sound mind when shuting down AA, the numbers were very low... but they also have a horrid way of saying it "We put in, but didn't get back" (See article about shutting down the game)... I think thats the problem, they didn't put enough in, they didn't balance the game fast/well enough to make an impression. CoX gets updates on a regular basis, massive almost expantion sized updates, yet this game never realy got a ton of those... the game never evolved enough to warnt the masses flocking back. With that said its sad that they wan't to close down AA, and if they were to change their minds I'd resubscribe to "give back", AA will be missed and I doubt we'll see anything as potentialy inovative in a long time. |

Unfortunatly you guys are probably right (well I'm 99.9% sure your right haha). I wan't to thank you all for your honest answeres, it was after playing Vanguard and seeing what system I'd need in the near future that drove me to consider droping the "PC gamer" out of my discription lol. Untill I get out of college I think I'm going to have to step down and be an Xbox 360 gamer, the good news with that is that a few MMOs are coming out on 360 soonish. I'd say the downside to this all though, is that I deffently wanted to get into Vanguard, I stuck it out for two weeks but after that I couldn't take the low graphics and on-and-off gameplay that my computer was giving me. Well I can say this, I'll be a PC gamer untill my computer can't handle it anymore lol. Thanks again everyone! |

Ok I played Vanguard when it first came out, I actualy belived that my computer (that is closer to the minimum requirements) could play the game, unfortunatly it did, but it looked worse than EQ1 lol. With that said its been a few months and a ton of patches, so I have to ask has any of the updates ore any modifications to the game made it easier on the CPU/Graphics card, or is it still a "chew you up, spit you out" kinda game? I realy enjoyed Vanguard (what little I got to play) but the graphics (that I was forced to use) didn't warnt my interest. My current setup is: Intel Pent 4: 3.0 ghz Nvidia Geforce 6800 GS 1 gig of ram So with that said, I'm guessing my computer is still under the bar, even though the back of the box says I should be able to play the game lol. Anyways I'm just cruious and slightly bored so I was wondering if they had done anything to fix this issue.

Lol now I know the game is being developed by SOE and they'd never give in to Microsoft, but seriously they should make this on Xbox 360 as well... seeing as no one owns a PS3 haha. Well seeing as I don't own an PS3, I have to ask, any idea on the system specs for the PC version? |

Hold it guys, didn't you read the offical forums and the beta test notes. The transilations are currently there number one task, what you have right now is a "first run, get it out the door so english people can test it for us" version. It even says on the loading screen for the patcher that they are working cleaning up the translations, reworking the story and fixing the korean text on the titorial and other screens. So with that said I think we all need to take it down a notch before we go attacking K2. Lets let them actualy release the game before we grab our riot pitchforks and torches... so just clam it down and give them a chance. Though do keep those pitchforks and torches ready... you never know when we'll need to right... till then, just grab an ale in your local tavern and have some fun with the game untill beta is over. |
