We will have to wait and see when the game comes out what features are included and what are not.  Don't go holding your breath, Darkfall won't see the light of day in 2008, might be 2009 though.  If you want evidence of such, even the publisher was a no show at the recent Leipzig show.   If they had a game that was even close to playable it would have been shown there.

Sure they have talked about beta a few times in the past, but they have never set a release date for the game until now.

 

As for conferences I would rather have a MMO developer devote 100% of their resources into making a top quality game instead of blowing money going to conferences to hype their game then delivering crappy gameplay (*cough* AoC).

 

The MMO industry needs a wake-up call that it can't make shitty games and expect players to pay then while they add the gameplay and polish that should have been there in the first place.

I got a chuckle from this reply.  Proof you want, there is so much proof on the web it is overwhelming.  Just to start this is their 3rd beta announcement and we still have no beta yet.    Adventurine has produced so many "it is coming soon" announcements that media just ignores them now.
 

Sorry any publisher in the business is going to show a working game at the first show they can.  Hence it is clearly evident they don't have a playable game yet as Leipzig was just a few weeks ago.  How in the world are they going to get a beta out next month?

You people are clearly delusional over this title.   I can understand the want for something other than a another Wow clone, but Adventurine has been leading us on for years with nothing except a few screen shots.  Now they make one video and you want to annoint them?  Thanks, but I need something a bit more solid from them more than the host of missed promises they have given us so far.

One possible reason they don't provide more comprehensive information is they feel the information is in the dev journals and FAQs. They may be happy to leave it there, becuase the information is not "official", they don't have the skill to write a game guide, or they don't have the time.

Another possible reason, is this would be one of the functions a publisher would help with, and they were hoping they'd be able to get one.

More troubling than the lack of information, is the contridictory information. They say the game is feature complete, and that they're working on testing, patching and optimizing, and imply the game is feature locked, but also say that they're adding more features. They also say the game will be in beta as long as it needs to be, while providing a hard release date. They claim they've put as much work into non-combat features (crafting and quests) as combat, yet don't show any of it in the comprehensive video.

My guess is that many of the features they promise in the dev journals and Q&A's are not complete, don't work right, aren't polished, or completely missing, and they're working on trying to get enough completed to be able to claim the game is the one they've promised.

Several weeks?, and this is meant to proove they will take as long as needed does it? There is no way they are going to release a polished game when they only plan to test it with the public for several weeks, they need atleast a year. And no they have not been in beta, they have been in alpha. When you test internally with no involvment from the public it is an alpha stage of development.

And as I said, proffestional beta tester are in every game, this does not mean they are going to release in a polished state, especially in the case with mmos. It would a be a first if they somehow manage to release this game in a polished state with the lack of testing it will have.

And as I said in my last post, they need to clarify they will spend as long as needed, because all they have been saying is release this year, beta this year, it will only be a trial period. That is all contradictory to saying we will take as long as needed.

Anyway I dont want to argue with you either, and to be honest if you dont understand why such a short period of beta is not a problem, then it really is not worth have a discussion with you. We will see what state this game is in in the next couple of months it seems.

To the other guy who said they have experience after 8 years of development. In what exactly? You can not compare experience in the development stage, to the experience gained from a released product. They may have learnt a lot in that 8 years but they deffinatly do not have the same experience as a team who actually has released products.

For instance they have no experience in dealing with patches quickly, dealing with customer complaints, they have no experience in managing an a live mmo that needs constant customer support and so on. So my point they are inexperienced is valid.

Anyway I dont want to derail this thread, so I wont post anymore about the beta test.

Yes the screen are awsome and unfortunatly this explanation wont silence the trolls that just wont stay away, but no one really takes them seriously anyways.  Even if the graphics in the video were the best they can be (they arent) I would still think they are more than fine for what this game plans to offer.

Yea there plenty good even tho some stuff is problyy last gen texture for performance reasons but i belive the higher settings will look just fine i dont miind the medium settings

Df's engine has been completely build up from the ground, what you are probably confusing with is the fact that DF uses a server cluster, and EVE is the only other game that uses that.

DF's cluster does have a few perks over EVE's though, but that's to be expected, EVE being out a long time now

Also EvE while having been out for 5 years now its server is very powerfull as it was brand new last year i belive. Basically CCP got enough cash to completly replace the old servers with a new one.

Do you honestly think that a company of 30-40 people with little to no experience, using bots that only do very specific tasks, will somehow do what most companies fail to do in 2 years, in less than 4 months on a game that is obviously going to be much more complicated? Also they have been saying since 2004 that they want a short beta, all they have done since then is reiterate that. If they really wanted to take as long as needed for the beta they would of started it years ago, not leave it till the last minute.

The excuse of wanting this to be a trial rather than a test just reemphasizes the lack of testing this game is going to have before its supposed release date.

Edit: I actually think this game is going to start off like EvE did, completly and utterly terrible. Hopefully it improves like EvE did as well, otherwise a potentially great mmo is going to go down the drain.

What they really need to work on is the animations, hopefully if they decide to do another video it will show improved animations, and go into more detail about all their other features they claim to have.

This game has potential, but it will fall flat on its face if it releases in a bug ridden state, especially with the amount of hype Darkfall has generated people will have higher expectations for it to deliver.

edit: not sure about that blood effect they have on the screen hopefully you can toggle it off, looks kind of crap and like it obscures the screen. I believe thats the 3rd person tight camera angle you would see in game as well which looks about right, not to close but not so far back you can see people behind you easily.

on this the have prot esters testing bot that cause just as much stress as a real player and AI is helping some too. at least thats how i would think they are confident in there product
