and you know this how?

I think this is merely a conclusion based on everything we've learnt so far. Let's face it - the odds are stacked against this game. We're all just hoping it delivers in the face of overwhelming odds.

whaty ive seen and hear the gameplay is fine gfx arent perfect but who the hell is expecting a perfect game im just expecting a game that freaking works and its a sandbox skill based yadda yaddaa yadda thats all not perfection

i see imprefections in the vids but as long as its fun who cares swg precu was fun but it was no where near perfect

and them imprefections can be patched in

alot easyer than fixing a broken game

Since disagreeing with anyone of the fans on this forums brings on the "Tinfoil hat" issue, I've got a real conspiracy for you..

Aventurine received money from the government to fund Darkfall.  The first investor was out 500k (The Dev team moved to Athens). What is actually happening is:

Darkfall videos/screen shots are just a modified Oblivion.  There are no "testers" but actual players who think they are playing a mod of Oblivion.  So, the quotes we received are real, but not for Darkfall, they are for an Oblivion Mod.

Darkfall has been in development for so long with it being "feature complete" for almost as long.. With only tidbits of information stringing people along. It's easy to be feature complete when you're just modding a game..

The 27.5 million?  Well, with 20 odd devs, that's 196k a year for each developer with their expenses being paid for by grants.  And they can drum up more money by showing these "tidbits" of information to the fans, building a near riot, then sending the investors to the sites to see how "excited the fans are" about Darkfall.  Chaching.

And that concludes my conspiracy theory.

1 thing they dont make no where near that

This is such a desperate post. The joke is on the DF fanboys. The 'trolls' find it all highly amusing. That's why they're here.

Hmm... first off, development has been going on for 5 years, not 8.

Wrong. Aventurine was developing the game since 2001. That's not 5 years.

Haha, that's wrong on TWO accounts, nice job. You're going to try to argue facts with someone who's been following the game?

This is on their PRESS RELEASE (where they also announce the release date, so it defeats the OP of this thread too)

"venturine's main project is Darkfall Online, a groundbreaking game scheduled to launch January 22nd, 2009. Development of the game, the technology platform, game engine, and tools began in 2003. The Darkfall team consists of thirty veteran developers."

There you go, game in development for 5 years.

Someone might try to sell you an island...

Yes, because clearly this game is a big scam, and they're lying about when they went into development. Are you that braindead? Look up the copyrights. Darkfall was a game being worked on in a basement by 4 people under Razorwax.

In 2003, Razorwax moved to Greece and merged with a much larger team, Aventurine, and started over. This is a well known fact most vaportrolls just ignore to keep their "been developing since 1999 lolz" argument going. Well you finally have something official stomping on your idea. Oh wait, thats never stopped them before...

I mean because you believe everything that is written. Maybe it's you that is braindead?

then why are you posting?

So, anything technical about the game aside, the game is doomed, because the players will ruin anything good that might come from it. Who really believes that should the game come out, that the people who have so eagerly expressed thier love/hate for this game will suddenly get along... and that they wont take this exchange into the game?

there really should be somewhere we can lay bets on the release date! I mean, the sportsbet sites offer heaps of other crazy stuff to bet on, I wish one had the darkfall release date listed.

What do you rekon the odds would be for a Jan 22nd release or before?

I think about 5 to 1, ..and after Jan22.. about 1.80 to 1 =)

i would say 3.5  out of 5

This really just shows how nieve they are.  It's kinda like their 'feature' list.  It's a whole bunch of stuff that in theory sounds nice, but in the real world it won't work.   Yes, there are certain companies that used a limited beta testing process for PR purposes (warhammer and AOC)... but even those games found a ton of issues that would have never been found by a handful of testers.

Simply put, expect the official 'launch' in January to be the real beta.   If games like Warhammer with a huge open beta and huge finanical resources had a ton of CTD's and major hardware bugs at launch, wait until you see what happens when your custom build computer tries to play Darkfall.

they ahve already beent esting custom build that whatt he hardware test was for ibet yout he few hundred testers have diffrent setups for computers

What we need to learn is to pick the hate from the reality. Most fanboys think that any critic is ´hate´, and therefore it helps to hurt the game itself, for all critics help to improve the game in a way or another.

I think that Tasos is totally lost on it. A so secret beta test only means that there is no confidence in the game (specially so near the launch). The arrogance of the PR have been seen on PoBS, and we all know today the ´no crying on red circle´ mantra by now, and how PoBS is a joke nowdays... We dont want to that to happen on DFO, at least the ones who pursue the dream of a GOOD game, not the game itself (be it godd or bad).

DFO has an incridible concept, but the reality, today, teached us to be a little more... cautious... D&L. PoBS, AoC teached us a lesson... Great hype, arrogant devs and too promises with very low ´showing it up´ (like the marvelous PvP on battlekeeps, of AoC, the jewel of the crown, or the DX10, never show on beta but promised as ´certain´ until the launch) is a sign of great disaster... And all those points are HUGE on DFO.. (the hype on DFO is higher than the AoC, the arrogance of Tasos is far bigger than even the PoBS devs, and the secrecy of the main features we cant even start with, since we only knew of a ´ghost beta´, without even notices of ANYTHING, and VERY near the launch).

I am worried about it, everyday without notices of the beta (the real one, I mean) makes me a little more skeptical about DFO. Notice that I still love the game (the concept of it, I mean), and I really hope that ll those bad signs are only a terrible coincidence...

IT's been happening for a while.  Fanboys take what the devs say and turn them into fact.  The take would liek to have a trial to WILL have a trial.  And Whenever the company promises don't materialize, they deflect.

There haven't been stated they there will not be any free trials either. Hope or not. There have been no mention of preorders. That means they are not out to scam you for your money, what other reason could it be that there is something "fishy" is goin on with DF and  Aventurine ?

If they have no trial, it's the same as having pre-orders. Making you pay to find out the game is shit.

You really think even half of the "fanbois", much less anyone else, is going to put even $1 into Aventurines pocket without seeing the game first? Sorry, ain't gonna happen.

The bright side is, if it is some kind of scam or just a really shit game, only a handful of people will lose anything if forced to buy before try.

I have to laugh at your "no trial is the same as pre order".  I never realized that every game on the market is pre-order then.  CRAZY!!

Hey, I've got plenty of money to waist.  Doesn't bother me to lose a few bucks if it ends up sucking.

Most try to find humor when they fail to grasp the point. So let me make it clearer and spell it out for you:

Pre-order = "Hi, give us your money  for our game sight unseen and hope you like what you paid for."

Release with no open-beta or trial: "Hi, give us your money for our game sight unseen and hope you like what you paid for."

So yes, same thing.

And after AoCs' famous "Can't go past level 13 in the "open beta", Aventurine had better think before trying to pull that one. If they're reluctant to let you see the game past a few early levels ( you know, past the goblin areas which seem to be the only areas shown to everyone who rights a "review" ), then there's a reason why.

They've got 40 days left to have an open beta ( open to everyone, not a select few ) and get the game out. That means they have less than 40 days to convince enough people to buy the game at release. And sorry, there ain't enough diehard fanbois to foot that bill.

look at forum regerstrations enough said granted it doesnt = what subs will be but theres goign to be a public beta anyways

o yea we seen orcs too so not goblin areas only HA wrong again

I'd settle for some previews from CGM, IGN, Games Radar, Gamers Hell etc. The only thing i have been able to find that is even semi legit was the Italian MMORPG site preview and that was done in their office  in a very controlled environment. Nope for a game that is supposedly releasing in a few weeks there are entirely too many BS flags up the flagpole.

There is no way I would pay for this pig in a poke and that is assuming they can come up with a last minute way for N Americans to purchase.

There is a good chance there won't be an open beta. They are confident that they have fully tested the game and that open beta is unecessary. The only reason that there is the closed beta in the first place is to test different hardware specs utilized by gamers.

So confident that they're scared shitless of anyone outside their group of hangers on getting their hands on it off-site.

wrong tons of people from the forums that dont know who the devs are are in

Oh really? Who are they?

if i named them i would get banned so no thanks

We shall not seek 'truth', we shall not ask for anything besides holy mighty Tasos gives us, provides us...

If you have doubts, questions about this God-send game from up above, still holy mighty  Tasos and his followers might just forgive you, as long as you dont go ahead and search for answers...

I think his point is that if you actually have to 'search' to find the release date of a game it means something is wrong.   This game feels more like  a player-made mod for NWN then it does a MMORPG (as far as professionalism and marketing).

While nobody wants to see games like AOC and Warhammer where they hype to eternity and then fail to deliver a good game.   A real gaming company, after 8 years of development, would at least have a huge banner on it's website announce the release date of it's game and would have up-to-date feature lists on it's website.. not something that is 50% inaccurate and from 5 years ago.

I'm still calling vaporware.  What will be available in january will not be what many people think of as a MMORPG launch... it will feel more like a UO private server run from someone's garage.   Customer support? LOL   Patch notes and PTRs? LOL     24hr server maintenance? LOL

and thats so wrong its not even funny
