May want to wait after the server merges are complete to see if the economy works as intended with the larger populations.

Just noticed that there are indeed some Moderates floating around, but I also see more Nones on those servers.  Interesting...

For SOE conspiracy, I'll add in this.  Sometime ago, I think in 2006-2007 or so, SOE was kicking around the idea of a Pirate/Wooden ship MMO.

I tried reading those postings on the AoA forums...

Looked like something out of Billy Madison.

Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

Gor'ram, I hope that is not an indication of how the game will be like.

IE: What Champions should be and play like according to Cryptic. (User feedback, Original IP, eh what are those?)

Thanks for the replies so far.

Question, does anyone know of any screenshots or images of mythical creatures?  I haven't come across one yet.

Some statements from the FLS suggest that the systems (PvP, PvE, economy, etc) were all too heavy interdependent of each other.  And so taking a route that provides less interdependency may be the trend or focus.  Of how that can be done....?

As for playing PotBS for myself, don't have the time (one MMO at a time) or the interests to provide SOE profit at this time.  Although I do like to see Flying Labs succeed with the PotBS, which I why I have an interest on the forums.

Instanced.  It is the only way in order to support a FPS environment and high resolution with the current technology possible.

Basically it is an MMO in name for use of a Lobby, hosting multiple multi-player battles.

I think the official announcement will be made at next year's GDC.

Would like to see the following link as a sticky, since it does provide information of the current state (within 10 minutes of real time) of population, as well as areas engaged in combat.  Also looks like additional features are to be supplied, as an example resources.

(Figured to post it in this thread, since the information is out-of-date and there are only two other posts.  Perhaps treat this as a Useful Links thread?)

A very good resource for PotBS:

I have some questions to bring up to see if PotBS has lost its Focus.

I had originally read that there would be some elements (leaning on the fantasy side) that would be introduced such as Sea Monsters and other things from old sailors tales.  But seems that such concepts have been put on the back-burner, while attention is being made towards the economics and combat system.  Well that is what it seems to me, and is this true?

Is PotBS moving towards more of a PvP style game system, following along the likes of Eve-Online?

Or correcting design flaws for now, until at some later time to introduce PvE elements?

Or something else?

I hate to tell you this, really.  Not being funny or making an attack.

Prepare for some bad news.

Gundam Online (New Century) was canceled in December 2007, with end of service just two months ago.  I can't tell you why or how as I can't read the Japanese language (even with a web translator).

I'm at a lost... really.

Paid Subscriber count is going up.

User activity is low (actually downward trend from launch).

Add in server mergers.

Currently having about 65,000 subscriptions for approximately 3 months

Well if there is a logical truth to this...

I guess there are a number of people paying, but not playing.  Kind of forgot to hit the cancel button or just too lazy to do so.  If that is the case, those are the best customers to have; they pay, consume no resources and say nothing.

Other than that, going by what has been put out as true, I can't think of anything else how that would compute.  This doesn't fit the Eve-Online Model.

Oh Zorvan, you're such a whiner. If it bothers you that much, go elsewhere.

Obviously, SGL have done enough to prove to mmorpg.com that Divergence has earned its place here.

Let me bring up some old items and let us see how they apply today shall we?

Remember this statement from Ethan?

"Well we have dozens of ingame screenshots and several videos in fact, but are locked into an NDA with Microforte, developer of Bigworld until as they say "the check clears." The probem is that we have as of yet no idea how long that is going to take. It could be 5 minutes from now, it could be months."
- EthanC Aug, 2006

So the "check" never cleared did it?  Or perhaps there was no "check" to begin with, just the right to use BigWorld for development evaulation purposes only.  Do please answer that one.
And where are all of those screenshots and videos, eh?  Oh right, the NDA is still in effect...

Next, how about those so-called ingame screenshots or concept art?

http://www.mmorpg.com/discussion2.cfm/thread/91868

"The posted screens are from another engine that we're evaluating which happens to allow public displays however I am not at liberty to discuss anything further.

I think they look damn good but realize that in order to get that level of photorealism, one would need around two thousands dollars worth of PC, and the graphics cranked to what we like to call "Holy Hell".

Clip plane maxed.

Everything Maxed for that matter.

However, they do look damn good, and at the time [given there were no player character models] the computer taking them with a 256 radeon x1600 was getting a nice framerate."
- EthanC Aug, 2006
"Concept Art"
http://images.mmorpg.com/images/screenshots/082006/8339.jpg
"Original Art"
http://www.e-onsoftware.com/products/solutions/images/cerro_sha_lnk.jpg
(original picture not available, but this thumbnail still shows the original.  Just a mirror flip...)

"In order to qualify for an mmorpg.com listing you have to jump through several hoops, and one of those is provide 5 ingame screenshots.
...
And therefore, we got together with the few licensed programs we have such as Vue5 and 3ds Max and used the only engine that we had on hand which we were dabbling with in phase 1 before anyone had introduced Bigworld to us. It was extremely primitive being a mostly homemade conglomeration but held alot of promise, which is why phase1 people are still sworn to silence and will remain that way until further notice."
- EthanC Aug, 2006

So instead other people's artwork were used to provide screenshots, oh wait, they got caught, they meant concept art that they rendered...

Now for those screenshots that are currently on MMORPG.Com, they are from the Multiverse Engine.

So just a brief recap,
- They claimed to have the money to purchase BigWorld, but that deal never went through...
- They had an investor, but still searching for investors, using either Multiverse ($0) or C4 ($200) as their engine of choice...
- They provided screenshots/concept art of their own, but wasn't their own...

I'll carry on levelling the playing field and encourage the people newly discovering this game to decide for themselves with current information.

The "Facts" can be found on their own forums and newsletters.  Take a look, really, look at their forums and you will find that they blamed MMORPG.Com for being delisted, not themselves.

They, SGL, deceived the community and then lay blame to the staff here for the problems that arose.

And even if my posts were a year ago, it is still valid to this day.

Although I like sticking up for Indies, not this group.

Past history cannot be dismissed.

PSI's are critical features.

As for Cryptic going to use PSI's for player controlled ships...  no idea.  Depends on their targeted market.  If it is the mass market, which most likely is, then the answer is likely to be a No for player PSI's.

I concur with the above poster (Flummoxed).

If $73k was the average, well shoot, I would immediately send out those resumes.  But the majority of those positions or in the $50's or lower, and with poor job security.

My, my, my, still around...

"Divergence is a modular-based MMO using the C4 engine for most graphical work and front-end and PX Interactives MMO server middleware to handle multiplayer and network traffic. As I may have boasted in earlier threads, we use several groups for 3d content including Liquid Development; responsible for 3d assets for big name games such as Elder Scrolls: Oblivion, Guild Wars and City of Heroes. Other groups include Rocketbox Libraries for our armor and clothing as well as animations for said characters and even 3DRT for the cheap stuff."

Also add in FaceGen for the character generator.

Nothing to see here, just purchased or borrowed assets thrown together.

As Keogh mentioned before of posting a link.
Read those messages of mine and compare with what they have now.  A game that is supposely all done, but just lacks the money...

Its all spin.

So, there you have it. SOE had nothing to do with it. FLS just lost it come retail. Three months later the results of all this are obviously apparent: most people have quit the game, myself amongst them.

Errr... SOE has had a few factors.  Wasn't there a problem with distribution of packages and oversea sells?

The title of SOE has caused some potential sales to be lost.  As you have said that all members of your guild didn't care of SOE, I can name myself and my friends for not purchasing due to SOE making a profit on our dollars.  So don't rule out SOE completely.

FLS could have gone completely independent, which in hindsight would seem to have just the same results as with going with SOE, but with less expenses and hassles.

I believe the 65,000 mark to be a fair assessment.  The reason is mostly that PotBS is still new, so the number I believe is reflective that the initial sales are still exceeding the churn rate.  Though true, the Station Pass does mask things.

For the issue with http://potbs.armeagle.nl/ I also find no posting of Dev's stating it is false.  Actually I found a thread in which the FLS team was helping with this.  As well as a Dev Blog about it:
