This game promises some of the same combat mechanics Hellgate did but they didn't exactly deliver. The video's I've seen look pretty good, but when it comes to aim based combat server lag and bugs tend to ruin it. Granted Hellgate has a homing style just like Tabula Rasa, but if you're smart you see a trend there. There hasn't been an aimed based combat game that has had much level of success yet, other than maybe Planetside but its a pure shooter. The fact that they just now secured a US publisher seems sketchy to me, but eh what do I know.

Excuse me, but what does this have to do with this exact thread?  As far as I can tell, nothing.  Please shut up and move along.  If you can't comment on the exact object of the thread, then you don't need/shouldn't comment.

With that said, I'm looking to get into game programming and I enjoy hearing about the tools of the trade, no matter who they are.  Even programmers of a less popular game have done something that most of us haven't, which is make a game.  I'll definately look into what this person has to say.

FIX THE FEAKING BUGS

This thread is about an article discussing the creation of this instance. Therefore, he's stating they did a piss poor job at it as they have done for years now. By the way, you'll want to look into programming in general before you decide to jump to game programming, otherwise you will be massively overwhelmed.

Phantasy Star Universe, Final Fantasy XI, and Everquest Online Adventures, all for the PS2 I believe, I think PSU is available for 360 though.

Why don't people try DAoC before screaming that this is a "WoW Clone"? DAoC is the foundation this game is built upon and is the only thing we should really reference in any kind of relation to WAR. I myself took up the 14 day trial and have been enjoying it and learning the way RvR is structured. I know WAR isn't identical, I wouldn't expect it to be, but just from trying DAoC I can say with confidence that aside from being an auto-attack adventure game it won't be much like WoW. Unfortunately there aren't many low level players doing RvR in DAoC at the moment so I couldn't actually fight another player in a fair fight, but I did find the entire system to be engaging and love the idea that I won't have to grind quests, gear, or coin in order to make it to max level and begin having fun.

It seems fairly strange to me that they are waiting so long to begin stress testing. We're just a little over a month away from launch, what if they find out the entire infrastructure of their servers can't handle the appropriate player level comfortably? Do you delay at the last second or push a bogged down game to market? Again, this is a what if, not a flame.

Dude you'll be fine. Aside from running a 9600 or dual 8800's or higher you don't really need to get the big time cards to play this comfortably at a decent quality. It recommends a 7600 and assuming thats optimized for the medium level of detail an 8600 will run smooth. Stick to the 8600 and wait for Vista to become more common before upgrading all your other hardware, else you'll end up with an expensive mid-line machine down the road.

I think it would be cool to have an entire squad at your disposal that you can upgrade, and allow your character itself to be the commanding officer. Sort of like being Interrogator-Chaplain with a group of Space Marines that you can name and build stories onto, and control as pets. Then in a group it can be a large scale offensive and a true army fight rather than 5 or so players running about.

You mean squeaky clean Wal-Mart ( what a crock ) is actually carrying the game? Astonishing.

But I agree with the others who asked: who the hell buys their games at Wal-Mart?

Give it some time. The religious right here in the US is too busy making up their minds if McCain is conservative enough for them (and praying he doesn't take Romney as VP) to represent them in our upcoming elections. Once the elections are over they'll have more time to go back to dictating the morals that other people should live by and can get to writing nasty letters to Wal-mart.

(*The above comments are that of the author and are not meant to represent anyone or any group he is affiliated with or this website.)

Hell I dont buy anything from Walmart (let alone video games).Walmart Is ANTI American. All the things they sell there are from countries other than the U.S.A......GO to Gamestop....

Isn't Funcom based in europe? If yes, then why does it really matter where you buy it? Most CD's are printed by a machine using a small crew, and even those factories are usually outside the US. So basically, buying at Gamestop is the same damn thing.

Poor lighting is a great way to hide horrible textures. Looks like Sunken Temple if it had been in the Matrix or something.

Even the heavy servers would do good to have 150-200 people playing on them. Bria is such a ghost town with so many dead cities and unattended vendors, theres no way in hell it's heavily populated. Here's an idea though, maybe they're going to revamp space combat! Auto-Attack ship combat ftw!

Ok whoever said you play darth vader is retarded. You play a secret apprentice that no one has ever heard of. The game is one of the most polished looking star wars games in years. There are several new advances in A.I. happining in this game. When you use force push the people you throw will actually try to grab onto objects to save themselves from death. The game is being created under the direction of George Lucas so yeah, what happens in the game WILL BE cannon.

http://xbox360.ign.com/objects/823/823667.html

Get your facts straight and check out the ign page to read about it instead of bashing it and getting everything wrong.

This entry in the Star Wars saga casts players as Darth Vader's "Secret Apprentice", unveiling new revelations about the Star Wars galaxy. The expansive story, created under direction from George Lucas, is set during the largely unexplored era between Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith and Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope. In it, players will assist the iconic villain in his quest to rid the universe of Jedi - and face decisions that could change the course of their destiny. As its name implies, The Force Unleashed completely re-imagines the scope and scale of the Force by taking full advantage of newly developed technologies that will be seen and experienced for the first time anywhere in videogaming.

He's right, I think you trolls just got torched.

Seriously though, whoever said "only the movies are canon" has no idea how the Star Wars universe is structured. No, SWG is not/was not canon, but games such as KoTOR and books such as Shadows of the Empire are. Luke even has canon approved books continuing his story along with the children of Han and Leia, and even Mara Jade.

MMO's generally don't get TV ad's until they're deemed a success, or the publisher/ip makes a last ditch effort at getting subscriptions(SWG).

Last time I checked EBGames it was slated for a September release for 360, I don't know where this "released when the expansion is released" stuff came from. You don't usually plan an expansion before you launch the initial product, if so, that is retarded.

I would DEFINATELY stay away from World of Warcraft.
Other good ones include Pirates of the Carribean online and Anarchy Online

Star Wars Galaxies has a wonderful community and just brilliant to get into especially if youre into Star Wars.
as does Anarchy Online and i THINK City of Heroes (which has a very good theme I think 10 year olds would love).
(assuming at that age you don't complain like other people about content and graphics etc).

SWG is full of cantina pervs and half naked twi'lek entertainers that creepy nerds cyber with in character and in public. No.

Wow I mean that is amazing the extremely boring and pointless feature posts that somehow make it to the main page of the news on mmorpg.com is outshone by what dozens of others games have reported in that time span.

That you guys are WAR fanboys I can understand that is fine, some people like to live in their little cubes and thats ok if that makes you happy. Also anyone that has pre ordered a game that has still at least a year before release is pretty much well, as they say in school, as special child.

Also you guys can't seriously think that blizzard has announced all the features that will be in Wrath of the Lich King, they are adding more features to defuse little party popper that is WAR as we speak.

Lastly for the people with very limited understand of english, I didn't say all people just that the majority of people have put WAR as a 3rd of 6th game on their list, or perhaps I just don't talk to enough people that live in their cubes.

No the evidence is all there, mmorpg.com is just as shell of what it used to be and is now only serving special interest groups.

Please, support your wall of text with reference links. If anything mmorpg.com reports too many articles and has too many promotions for poorly translated asian f2p item mall mmo's. And WotLK hasn't promised anything similar to WAR, if they did the pve carebears would cry and begin their own veteran refuge forum.

Um, obviously it will run on a machine like that...AoC isn't exactly the next FarCry or anything. It may be better graphically than WAR, but CoD4 and Crysis are benchmark games for asking "will my computer run this?", not AoC.

Player housing in WoW would be a 3d bank used to showcase E-Peen achievements in an instanced "I say who can enter" method similar to EQ2 and LoTRO. I'd rather they focus on new combat mechanics.

My $600 rigg I built myself, after explaining the stats to a forum dev, told me I'd play flawlessly.

My comp:

200gig ATA/100 HD

3gigs ddr2 800 G-Skill ram

8600GT 512mb OC'ed to 600 core/1650 memory (practically 8800, little heat increase)

AMD X2 dual-core 3.0 processor 65w (energy efficient model, means I can OC her if I wanted to 4.0 without any issues)

Nvidia Mobo with a max capacity of 8gigs

I'm currently running Xp 32bit with dx10 crack (basically, it's the dx9 files replaced with dx10). I used to believe Microsoft's lies when they told me face to face XP could NOT run dx10. However, after finding the korean (least I think it's korean) modification that enables my 8600's dx10 on XP, I've been happy ever since.

However, I currently have Vista 64bit and another 4gig's dual channel G-Skill memory in the mail simply because I'm one of the few on earth (apparently) that know how to customize vista to work just like XP with some improvements over it's predecessor.

PS: I get 99ish FPS in CoD with graphics on MAX.

[edit]: Forgot to mention this build is 1 year old =), and it was $600 then. Now, it's something like 400ish.

Provide more specifics and/or links please. Also, where did you find the dx10 mod?
