Would Warhammer be better without scenarios?
General Discussion « WAR (Warhammer Online) 8/25/08 11:33:29 PM
Scenarios are fine, its a good distraction while grinding money for skills or rr gear. One thing that needs fixing is the auto-buff. Max it out for the scenario. Level 11 vs. Level 8 is a lose for a level 8 as long as they're not stupid. I mean really, why buff to 8. If you're going to admit that level disparity is problematic then fix it completely and not just partially. |

Vortex Destruction Guild -The Dark Passengers
Guilds « WAR (Warhammer Online) 8/23/08 8:52:41 AM
Mission Statement of The Dark Passengers Recruitment: Open to all Classes Guild Origins We are a guild comprised of long time real life and online friends. Most of us have known each other for around four years. We are original founding members of a World of Warcraft guild known as The Tau'ri located on the alliance side of the Khadgar US server. We eventually moved on to PvP servers(Emerald Dream, Mal'Ganis) after release of the Burning Crusade. We no longer operate in any games outside of Warhammer Age of Reckoning. Purpose We exist strictly for the purposes of our own entertainment. We do what we want, when we want, and how we want to do it. If we feel like smashing your keep, rolling your pug, or hammering your little sissy warband, we'll do it. If we feel like running around Inevitable City naked and yelling out random Chuck Norris jokes, we'll do it. We're animals, and WAR is our unclean and run down zoo. Goals Our current goal is to pound stunties, hummies, and elves into tiny little blood covered pieces that we can turn into very fashionable accessory wear. Once we reach T4 we will be working on sieges as well. Most importantly though, we just want to have fun at the expense of the carebears of Order. Recruitment Our recruitment is open to all classes and ages at this time. In the future we will likely close recruitment and move to an invite only policy. All members and recruits are required to use Ventrilo Voice Chat software. Please visit the recruitment forum for more information. If you're interested in joining, please visit http://www.thedarkpassengers.com

Originally posted by Teganx Tier 1 is small, even on the world map tier 1 is small. It's linear yes, because you follow tiers...kind of the point of the game. PvP'ing competitively in tier/scenario RvR so you don't get beat by massive level hikes(though you do need to be in the latter levels of a tier to be effective in world RvR). It's not an explorers game really, and to be honest the detail needed to freely explore fantasy terra would be immense.
Originally posted by UberKnot I'm not sure myself beyond tier 1, mainly because I don't want to progress past there until early access. I do however know that it isn't anywhere near as closed off as AoC. You can climb hills and take scenic routes to different areas in a tier. |

Mythic called 'Disrespectful' by IGDA - Warhammer Online Not Crediting All Developers.
General Discussion « WAR (Warhammer Online) 8/22/08 1:27:57 AM
As long as EA and Mythic will work as resume references then there should be no problem. They aren't with them at release because they were either fired or got a new job, focus on your future and not your past. Really, should they credit every individual working with the team? Secretaries, goffers, etc? I wouldn't be surprised if some of the uncredited designers were interns. |

The horrible animations people have mentioned occur dynamically to reduce frame rate lag when others are around.
My only gripe so far is making gold, I don't really want to do pve but I have to in order to buy my new abilities. |

You do realize that uber micro is a very very old gaming term from RTS games right? It didn't originate from purepwnage. |

Ideally according to Warhammer lore, there is no order or destruction. However, in order to create a game it is imperitive that the game have two sides, and to do so without including both Chaos and Greenskin would be very problematic. Humans vs. Chaos is a sub setting, just like all the rvr subsets it is molded according to Warhammer lore. Now, the major problem here is that involving all the armies in the game without grouping them would create major balance issues. One or two races will be on top, with another close to them, but what about lowly numbers 4, 5, and 6? Those armies would obviously be unequipped to sustain themselves in a realistic gaming setting because honestly, we may want to be underdogs, but we definitely don't want being in insurmountable situations such as the lower half of the races would be in terms of strength.
I probably didn't convey much of that properly, its 6:30 AM, give me a break. :P
I'd like to point out to the people crying foul about cartoonish graphics and canon inconsistency...it was all approved by Games Workshop. Fact of the matter is, they think it properly represents their IP. Fans and authors will be at odds until the end of the universe about creative direction. A shining example is George Lucas and his desire for the movie canon to be the only true canon, with the expanded universe being a splinter. Star Wars lived long enough to make the prequel trilogy because of the fans devotion to the expanded universe. When pig face went and made the prequels, most of the die hard fans that loved the expanded universe turned the movies into total lynchings so to speak. As fans we want to believe we are entitled to what we want out of canon, or an IP, but the truth is we can only get what the author wants to give. Everyone can't be pleased, its a way of life.
As for the city cuts being a big deal. Yes, some what. However, if the cities were complete and in at launch, 2 of the 3 pairings would be imbalanced due to the cut classes. The classes are the biggest issue to begin with, as it is silly to ask Witch Hunters to play the role of tank/front line combatant. They aren't designed to be. Once/if these imbalances are sealed with the release of the 4 classes then I fully expect the cities won't be far behind. Co-ordinating the defense of 3 cities during launch would be extremely bumpy as well, its going to be difficult enough protecting one as the beta players are going to have a heads up but still can't teach someone how to fully play their class in a manner of minutes before the flood gates open and the enemy is standing in our door steps. Let the cities come as updates, it will revigorate any staleness that may be around each time a pair are released.
Another thing, the appeal of RvR is basically the fact that all of us who have lived and died with the currently horribly imbalanced PvP features in modern mmo's are going to finally have a chance to experience a true fantasy war and virtual chessmatch. It's a challenge that only one or two other games have ever presented(DAoC for one). It's something new in comparison to the regurgitated vomit of meaningless time sink grinding that MMO's churn out like clock work and call it content. You can dress a doll in several outfits, but at the end of the day its still the same damn doll you've been playing with all these years. |

I can't believe more people aren't ticked about this...
General Discussion « WAR (Warhammer Online) 8/18/08 5:54:26 PM
All kidding aside but, I am positive quite a few MMO's have paid QA Testers in their beta on top of those invited for free.(10-20 tops) Also Mythic has illuded to several sever side analytical tools that can spot commonly occurring disconnects and bugs.
As for Open Beta, it isn't an obligation to invite everyone who signed up for beta in, at any time. A serious tester would understand this, this all happened during the Funcom OB and people complained because of Fileplanet. Truth be known, had they invited committed testers instead they could have polished much more that they didn't get a chance to even months after retail. |

Warhammer sounds interesting, but definitely not a game for me.
General Discussion « WAR (Warhammer Online) 8/18/08 5:44:59 PM
I don't think Mythic has ever pretended that this game is a PvE game, or a story game, or in some ways even a roleplaying game. The entire point of WAR, pve, pvp, pq's, etc. is meant to help the war against the other side. It's going to be a game with less grind and more pure action. I have a feeling that you'd be surprised how much of the pure PvE is soloable and fun in comparison to WoW or EQ. |

Does anyone know why Marvel pulled out of this game?

Aye, I know there has been quite the extension in DC over the years, even so I don't think it would be around the amount of online population an mmo needs. Marvel would make sense if they are all mutants learning at Prof X's academy or similar, but even then the landscape is a lot smaller in terms of population. Not to mention both universes have alternate versions where things are more cartoonish or more realistic(IE The new Superman, Batman, Spiderman, movies are somewhat more realistic than certain comic, tv, and movie series.). Appeasing an IP's background is hard to do in MMO's, I expect War to have problems there when it comes to the hardcore fans. |

I really don't understand how Marvel or DC expect an MMO to be immersive. In their universes there aren't thousands of Superheroes running around, at most a hundred or so, but a server will hold 2-3k players if the game is popular. The immersion goes out the window, along with all the Spiderman, Superman, and Batman clones that everyone will want to make. |

There is no quick fix, there is no hot fix. If they had fleshed crafting out properly in beta this would have never happened, but the truth is that it wasn't. Gemcutting itself was broken at launch. Trade exploits where there at launch, which is proven through the 3 weeks it took them to put traders into the game. This is a trickle down effect of the hacking/exploiting groups slowly teaching their tradeskills to the populus. It's happened in many games, most notably for me was Pre-CU SWG. They didn't care at the time because they were changing their game soon with the CU, so they didn't bother enforcing rules or fixing it live until then. They kept subscriptions they needed to pay for production. Frankly, its the same thing here. They're holding subscriptions right now through these bugs, exploits, etc. in order to pick up the tab for the PvP update that is already close to 2-months behind schedule.
As for Avery, he is a member of The Acolytes. Why would AoC's hand fed guild ever be critical of the game? You and your guild are as corrupt as Erling and Gaute. |

AoC is a great game...from levels 1-20...only if you meet the following criteria.
Yep, it IS a great game. |

I'll admit that Blizzard does great with their own IP's, because they dictate the canon. Remember the reason the Warcraft IP was made? They epic failed at using someone elses established IP. Not to mention that their games lack depth that isn't in the form of massive time sinks and pretty phat lewtz(starcraft being the exception as it is one of the greatest rts games ever made).
Cryptic has already ruined this game for trekkies, the only thing that could save this game is a chance that gameplay is unique, fun, and holds the attention of the modern day gamer.
If I were to pick a developer to do this IP justice, it would be without a doubt, Bioware. They pay attention to canon and detail more than anyone, something extremely important to die-hard sci-fi fans, like me and many of my friends. |

Which race do you hate the most?

Elves. Tolkien lore and Asian art have killed all Elves, be it light, dark, night, blood, pink, blue, yellow, orange, you get the picture. |

It should be, but you may not get to play on european servers. Not entirely sure. |
