I can agree with the levels of distinction needed to define PvP, but until the markets sets a standard definition, or all the gankers unite and actually focus on create a quality distinction of PvP methods in games, rather then join the crusade to "make every game all out war", we only have our own definitions to try to convey our points.

Personally, while I am, as I have been called, a "lore natzi", and no that does not mean I follow the third reich for you slow people out there, I think PvMP is innovative, fresh, and actually shows so people working hard to be creative in this WoW market.

I have tried a couple times, and when I get the hang of it I believe I will like it more.  It does convey the feel of a two sided battle, and it is created within parameters of lore and license that are appreciated by most of us lore junkies.

For all the super wonder PvP'rs that say "LoTRO suckzers cause it should habba da PvP, cause it is da supposed to"

Quote:  "We talked about how we implemented PvP, and there were some restrictions, so we came up with what we think is a pretty creative way to enable players who like that kind of play style to experience that without messing with the lore, and without forcing people who aren't into that to have to participate in it." end quote

That points to how Turbine kept within the lore and the literary license and PvP was innovated as it is.  Not what you want it to be.  You wanted sources, there is one, you want more I will be happy to oblige.

But that is an argument of semantics.

Open.....World......PvP means any where, any time, any place.

Restricted Zone PvP is limited to a zone or location, even WoW's hardcore world pvp servers are restricted.  Starting and teen level zones can not attack opposite faction unless you are attacked.  It reduces the ganking somewhat, but when you hit level 20 or so and enter contested zones, look out.

Epeen PvP'ers that argue the case for Open World PvP in LoTRO just have some deep seeded desire to raid the Shire, kill hobbits all day, because their dad did not play with them enough or something.

True PvP games are doing how well now?  After the few gankers were able to rush to max level and then camp low level zones decimated populations and people wonder why developers move to restrict PvP.........sheesh.

Hurm the game is what it is but you seem to conclude it is not what it is?  Have you read the license agreement between the Tolkien family and Tolkien enterprises?

Since that game is what it is not what you claim it should be we can use what it is as a bases of desired implementation and focused design.  So let me be gentle about this.................IT DOES NOT HAVE FRIGGING OPEN WORLD PVP AND IT IS NOT PLANNED SO GET OVER IT ALREADY.

Go play your carebear ARENA (which in reality is no different than PvMP) in WoW and tell the world how big your SWORD should be.

I would agree with most things you stated save that I feel your approach is to label con crowd as ADH, ADD, OCD instant gratification whiners.

In the end the pro crowd is threading the official hype line, con crowd is not and that gives them more crediblity providing if and only if their position is argumented.

Bad or mediocre games that have been released too early with too much hype are the fact. Next coming of MMO is highly unlikely and each and every game comming out during past few years was cheered by fan crowd as ZOMFG amazing.

I beleive most games will fall in the middle and be decent or mediocre.

I disagree, I am not labeling the con crowd, they do that themselves.  But I have learned to watch the pulse of the "hater" crowd, because personally the more they yell about how much they hate a game the more I have found I enjoy it.

Look at it this way, haters take a negative point of view, and can scream for years after a release how much they hate a game because they tried it one time for 20 minutes (sadly most could not keep their attention on the game, and there is a HUGE rise of ADHD, ADD, and OCD among the youth and younger adults in proportion to other generations and diagnosis.  Not may 60 year old ADD out there now are there?

The "fanboi" as you call them, actually enjoy a game even to the point of looking beyond a few minor issues maybe even bugs in the game, because they can accept that nothing is perfect.  So if these people enjoy a game who has the RIGHT to take away what entertains them?  The haters?  Pffftttttt as soon as the next big thing comes out they all move over there.

30 days ago it was all about the hate for TR then PoBS and now because AoC is the hot ticket they all come here.  Watch the crowd move to whatever most people enjoy and start bashing it.  I personally believe there is a large portion of those "haters" that don't even play MMO's they just troll forums with some deep seeded desire to "upset the apply cart" for everyone else.  Then there are a few competitors that troll these forums stirring up the crowd to create this crap.  Just because the crowd hates TR so much I am tempted to try it, if only I could play 12 hours a day.  I will not try PoBS because I swore to never buy a game that SOE has anything to do with.  And based on what I see here, I will buy AoC and try it because the hater crowd seems has no clue what they want, but it usually is what I want.

Currently the "hate" post is every post that doesn't state in advance that the game will be great.

No not every post, but most are the "dis gamerz sukkcerz asserz" comments, when in reality this community seems to be a breeding ground for hating any MMORPG that comes out, except for the few that play one game and say it "rockcerz!!".  Take a moment and read thru the commentary and see how many hate vs fanboi comments in this thread alone, you actually may have a moment of epiphany.

By reverse logic there are also so many fanboi posts that the game should transalte in complete and utter garbage.

Actually that would be nice if that logic worked, and most people would.  But here is the problem, generally most gamers are the instant gratification, has to be their way, whiniest, cry baby, if I can't gank it suckcerz crowd.  Meaning most of the have an ideal game in their head, most likely based on a game 5+ years old, and if any game is not exactely like that it "suckcerz".  The most basic and easiest resolution is to go back and play that dream game, because nothing will ever be exactly what they want.

I beleive it will be decent, possibly worse, but not much more then that.

To each their own, not everyone will like every game out there.  But assume what you want, no one will know for sure until they try it.  But again when the ADHD, ADD, OCD crowd screams it sucks, I have always found it is better than most.

(well that parenthetical is almost like delivering a personal invitation :-p)

Ya you are right, I should have left that out, my mouth tends to proceed me many times.

You know that's something I don't do very much yet. Aside from the things I craft for myself and/or friends... I usually just sell off the materials. I've always found that being a provisioner for other crafters seems to be a pretty reliable way of making money in MMOs. I think I'm going to start selling more when I can mastercraft Yew and and up...

My wife and my son's roommate (he made 15,000 gold last week alone in WoW)  love to play the auction houses and do very well, it is a niche thing.  So in this game, I can actually partake in the trading and do ok for myself.  I have to watch the market, cause like any other MMO one day someone decides to put a stack of taters on the market for 5 silver, I just wait till they sell out.

Yeah the economy is pretty stable. I mean, I do see people undercutting by absurd amounts and wonder "why?" - like the other day, the average price for something was right around 100s and then someone had the same item listed for 20s... So I bought them and relisted them at 100 :-p.

Haha I think there are a lot of people working the auction like that because the undercutters are not is numerous numbers.  So it is profitable to buy out the items at low prices and then sell them at market value.

How do you get them to come over? I practically have to set up booby-traps involving rope and potato sacks to get people into mine... :-p

I leave my access open, because I know I wonder the neighboorhood peaking in the houses that have open access.  I kinda feel like a stalker, but I get some great ideas on items I want in my cottage that way.

And to think it's only gotten started.

Yup, and because I am in no hurry to level, I have plenty of areas and game experience to explore.  This is not a hurry up to the end game experience for me, it is actually enjoying the journey.

I purchased the standard cottage and it cost 1 gold.  Weekly maintenance is 50 silver per week but the first four weeks were paid up after the purchase.  Then the storage container is 100 silver with 30 spaces.  Standard house has 22 hooks for interior items and four hooks for outside items.

My level 20 guardian after a month of exploring, crafting, and slowly taking the game one day at a time, was able to buy a stone cottage in the bree settlements.  It is a cute cottage, near the vendors in the settlement, yet the cottage is right next to the river.  I was able to even save enough to puchase a chest, some traveling rations, and even a bed.

After 25 years I can once again immerse myself into a MMORPG that allows me to feel what it is like to be single again!!!!!  Shhhh don't tell the wife I said that.  Now I can have green walls and blue floors, for no other reason than because I can.  I can store all my dirty armor in my chest and then just get new ones when it suits me.  I can eat what I want when I want.  And I can hang that "gawd awful" trophy on the wall if I choose.  And then after it is all said and done, I can venture over to my wife's cottage, look inside, and realize why it is not such a good idea to be single.

So in 20 levels these are my highlights so far (haters please move along, nothing to see here)

1.  I was able to actually explore my crafting, sell my wares, and collect raw materials for sale at REASONABLE prices (not those jacked up over inflated horrid prices of other MMO's).  This is the first MMO I have played where the level 7-8 gear I made was actually in demand.  Seeing there are a lot of hunters, bows are always needs even though I sell them at 10 silver each.

2.  My experience is the economy is stable and I was able to work at it and actually realize a REASONABLE profit.  So I feel that in LoTRO there is a viable economy, (probably since most of the gold farmers can NOT get a foothold in).

3.  The houses are set up in cute neighborhoods that have style and aesthetic beauty.  This is very tastefully done.  I like the fact that houses can not be placed whereever.......playing SWG years ago and findiing houses randomly plotted all over a planet, some right in the middle of spawns, was a poor design IMHO.  And because the graphics and the neighborhood design is so well done I can sit by the river for hours and feel relaxed.  Again this game lets me feel like I am in no hurry, while the epic quest line provides a sense of urgency, it does not make me hurry up and wait.

4.  The ability to show off my trophies and hard work in my house, gives the player a sense of accomplishment and identity in the game.

All I can say is very well done Turbine.  I am very happy with the game.  Breaking the mold of the recent history of corporations where profit superceeds consumers needs, there is a business that listens to its community, gives us more bang for our buck, and actually made a product that is fun to play.  Thanks

Exactely!!!!!  When you have that many different sides of the equation (LoTRO style of play; raid, solo, group, etc.) whining about the game, they must know they are doing something right.

Nope. I've played almost all mmos from gamelist on MMORPG.COM and some that aren't on list. But yes, I think that WoW is best mmo.

Then based on your questions on other threads, WoW is probably where you will be the happiest.

Many of us enjoyed WoW for a long time, I did for two and a half years.  I just got bored with the same routine.  I now enjoy a game with lore, an amazing story line, and the best immersion I have found in a game yet.

So if you think WoW is the best mmo, for you it probably is.  For others we have moved on to broaden our variety and experiences in MMO's.

There is alway SOE that in some of its games likes to punch out two expansions per year.

If you do not provide enough content, people tend to get bored and move on.  In order to develop expansion and cover the costs of research and development companies will issue expansions.  In the case of LoTRO, it shows how healthy the game is contrary to what the doomsayers say that joined the "Turbine took my Lollipop away" club months ago.

And Turbine provides updates and new content that is free.  Actually the standard in the MMO "business" is one expansion per year.  The bean counters determined this to be a reasonable level for subscribers, since many of them screamed that two per year was to many.

Just because I no longer play LOTRO, doesn't mean I can't discuss it when topics arise on a public forum.

Since it seems to be a pattern, and I would like to keep up appearances.

I used the MMORPG site to choose my next game after burning out of WoW.  I looked to see that it is voted high, lots of very nice screen shots, and my favorite part was the forum (during that short window of time) was full of positive comments.  I could have done more picking through the posts to find the myriad of haters that seem to be regulars, but I am glad I did not, because I actually found a game that I enjoy.  After 7 years of MMO gaming, I can move to this game and find that it actually meets my needs concerning entertainment.

And to keep this on topic AckbarNL, that means when I have short windows of play time, I find that I have plenty of solo content to keep me happy, and I learn they are adding ever MORE at the high end of the game.  Therefore I have no worries about burning out of the game soon.  But for the MMO junkie that thinks the game takes precedence and priority over a job and career, this game is not for you.

This game is designed with long term leisure in mind, it passes the epeen model in that gear is nice but it is not the race.

This game provides PvP as an optional part of the game but not a focus.

This game gives the craft junkie and option to make items that actually have value and benefit.

This game provides group content and based on the maturity of the players I have met, grouping is FUN again.

This game provides raiding that brings back the social function of people coming together and having FUN.

This game provides a lot of solo content that means I do NOT have to suffer downtime waiting for a group, I can venture out and do something while looking for a group.

To be honest I am tired of the consistent manipulation of the few haters that will belittle everyone for actually enjoying a game because they are mad that Turbine took their lollipop away, will not bring in all out two faction PvP, or Turbine refuses to provide hardcores with a game hard as time consuming as a job for 12 hours a day.  I am just tired of those "haters" that want to make everyone feel guilty, stupid, or a social plague for actually having fun.
