So what is this shit?!? How come those westeners ALWAYS get away with cheaper subscription rates? At the current rate 14.99 USD is 92,30 swedish krona, but 14,94 EURO is a whopping 142,66 swedish krona per month... WTF?!? That's almost 40% more expensive!

We get it cheaper cus we have to pay for health care and University...wanta trade?

we have to pay for uni. £3000 a years ($6000)
and i pay for my own health care.

and what has this got to do with AOC

Wait don't the Brits have government run insurance then?

It will so to try and stop it yes it would be cheaper for some in Europe to pay in US Dolla's but they are not getting it cheaper! $15 to someone living in the US is the same ammount to them as £15 is to you  if live in the UK. They dont get discounted bread and milk etc lol its all relative.

Huh?  You do understand exchange rates yes?  One american dollar converts in todays market to about .50 British pound.  One British pound converts to nearly two american dollars.

I still be stunned when I read so many of these posts

Lol Yes it does but that still does not mean an american's subcription price is cheaper for an american which is the point 15 dollas is 15 dollas to an american not £7.80 or what ever it converts to.

Sigh ok, here is how it works, Uncle Bob is a happy Brit, and there is me nephew Bill, the unhappy crabby American.  Uncle Bob has me get an American copy of the game and ship it to him.  Then he has me open the account at $15.00 per month, while Uncle Bob walks down the the exchange bank hands the clerk 7.8 pounds for $15 and then mails that to me.  Do you get it now, of course so many experts here that talk out of the other side, I have a minor in economics btw.

EDIT:  Post thought, if companies keep doing this I could offer to "split the difference" and make some money.  I just need to do it on a mass scale.  So Uncle Bob can go down and exchange 8.5 pounds for $17.34 american dollars, send it to me, save himself half a pound and I make $2.35 american per each person.

The USDOD has, since after WWII, been experimenting and trying to figure out a way for US troops to actually fire their weapons more in combat, so there has been an larger increase is violence shown in movies since the 1950s.  The next greatest tool to use in desensitizing young people to violence is the video game.  The percentages of actual fired rifles was 60% in Vietnam and increased dramatically to 90% in Destert Storm -- WWII it as roughly 35% of rifles used were actually fired.

This is not very clear, if the USDOD is trying to figure out how to let soldier fire their weapons more, then why did they make the M-16 only auto fire a three bullet burst after Vietnam?  It was because too many bullets were wasted because soldier were trigger happy.  Which counters you saying they need to figure out how to let the soldiers use their weapons more.

Ya sure, so your answer is to bounce back with fair and balanced IGNORANT rebuttal?   Way to keep it real though I suppose.  But your continual use of the Blizzard logo as if you were even a "wanna be" spokesperson reminds me of exactly why I don't play that game anymore.

I am confused though about the rest of your post, and I am ASSuming you are using WoW as the counter example.  Maybe not, but how is it any different in WoW?  Auto target, auto aim, and the wonderful world of one button click macros.

Childish posts. Even as grown ass men/women you act like five year olds. People have reason for what they want to censor and likely so they should be able to.

If you're a family man and have kids running all over the place you wouldn't want them accidentally seeing it as they ran by.

If your wife/girlfriend has a problem with the nudity then bam you can turn it off with out getting bitched at.

If your religious beliefs go against a practice or content.

Instead you sit there and bash the guy/girl for their right to censor content. Instead of being insensitive to the issue and acting like an adult you could have just said it's in the game already, but no let's not miss out on the opportunity to rip the hell out of someone for their beliefs/preferences.

And people though AoC would have a mature community, laughable at best.

The ultimate censorship is NOT to play the game.  If any or all of the attributes listed above offend or cause a problem it is a very simple solution........DO NOT PLAY.

And I agree that it remains to be seen that the community will be mature.

washo - first, you seem very angry and hate everything.

Second, you have the per hour figures wrong, in China you buy a game card which has like 66 hours of game time on it. These game cards go for like 30rmb($1 = 7.5rmb) which means a lot more than 4 cents to play.

Also, included in the 5.5 million Asians are Koreans and Japanese. Koreans pay a lot, Japanese I dont know.

But none of this matters because you hate WoW so much you obviously have no interest in logic or reason.

Regardless of what the Chinese pay for WoW, it is a well known fact that a lot of the money generated in China goes to The9 who are the licensed operators in China. Given that Asia wow only has 1 million more subscribers than Europe + North America it is say to that WoW Asia makes less profit for Blizzard than Europe + North America. China makes up a big chunk of the Asian wow market. But the Asian market has the biggest growth potential.

I am a critic of WoW and I'm entitled to be. Played the game for a long and put a lot of effort into it. Or am I now allowed freedom of speech on this matter because you don't like it?

Well his figures works out to a whopping .06 cents per hour for play time, ya a long way from .04 cents, anyone else up for splitting hairs?

I never knew a staff member can be such a NOOB!!! Good luck trying to beat anyone, by only using mortal strike or sinister strike like you said in your stupid remark!  O, wait, I guess your stupid remark is true because people only need to use mortal strike or sinister strike to kill you!

WOW did someone hit a nerve?  Let me guess you play a warrior?

I am sure Blizzard upper management is so happy you are using their logo as you pretend to speak on their behalf.

That's why I would never dream of game design as a career.  Enterprise software designers work less hours make more money, and when they are called into question, it is from a professional...not some mouth breathing fry cook with no life.

Said it many times. Love games hate most gamers.

me for example im quite fit lol(toots his own horn) have my own 2 bed room apartment in manhattan, freelance for both a Production company, and a indie game dev company. so I believe my "professional background" has some clout and credbility unlike some fry cooks. I ask certain questions or "highlight" certain anomalies within a individuals comments, on what they are doing and whether or not their behavior or comments are questionable at best.

Would it be fair to say that  you are more of the competitors point of view?

Personally I try to keep up with this, but reading through the myriad of children's screams about how unfair this is, or how Funcom is involved in a master conspiracy (waiting for the UFO theories), and how unethical Funcom is, makes it impossible to actually get a balanced view on this.  While the children (well the immature adults at most) keep screaming it really reduces the credibility of any posts on that side of the issue.

Now I know most MMOs are like that, but LotRO is the pinncle of run-of-the-mill MMOs I've played imo. Like I said, is there anything unique about this game that can capture an action-loving PvPer? The monster mode kinda sucked and I didn't feel like grinding for days to get my orc-looking-thing a sword.

Of course your complaints are the downfall of nearly every MMO out there.  While I hope you find what you are looking for in AoC, I should mark this thread and compare it 6 months down the road.  Meaning that your complaints about quests, PvP, and run of the mill MMO's really means you are not happy with MMO's in general, and I highly doubt any game is going to give you what you are looking for.  But here's to hoping I am wrong!

I would like that too. Though LOTRO has way too boring combat and character system for me. (Those are the only 2 things that made me cancel)

Combat is not to bad in LoTRO for me, I find that you have to think about the actions before you embark upon.  But DDO combat (trying out the trial since I am becoming a total Turbine fanboi) is a blast.  And considering that, I can imagine some exciting things on the horizon in both games, Turbine is totally taking the initiative.

Just to help you on the lore and the classes in the game, as others may fill in my blanks or help me where I am wrong........

How many classes did Lord of the Rings really have to begin with. I'm not up on my Lore, but my reckoning there was:

Wizards like Gandalf, not playable due to their rarity

Gandalf was a keep of the lore, thus lore-keeper.  Wizards were very rare, as of his order, but the basis by which they studied was the same essence of the lore-keeper in game.

Rangers like Aragorn

Again the Ranger class was the elite but the basis by which they learned their ability was by being hunters.

Horse Calvary like the Riders of Rohan

Champion were the might of the Rohan army, but calvery battles is a challenge yet to be broken by any MMO.

Healers, like Aragorn (wait, you had to be a King or something)  or the Elves

Hunters are trained in the arts of the wild and can purge poisons and cure ailments by their knowledge of the plants.

Archers which were all elves.

Elves being a society that was closer to the realm of nature, often used the bow yes, but other races did to.

Captains, who were really just soldiers leading armys, don't recall any special abilities.

As in the game the abilities of the Captain are with groups.  Marking specific opponents for more damage from the group, raising group moral, leading heralds, etc.

Armored foot soldiers, which seemed to cover just about every other human in the game.

Guardians were most of them, the ability to take on head to head the foes of battle.

Hobbits - what the hell were hobbits, they didn't really have a class, unless you wanna call Samwise a cook.

Most hobbits were content to live their lives in the shire.  Though in the book it did mention that a unit of Hobbits warriors aided in the First War against the Witch King, so some break the usual role of hobbits and are able to be adbenturers like Bilbo or warriors like the unit in the first war or minstrels that recited history and tales throughout the book in poem and lyre.

So there you have it.  Seems to me Turbine has already take some liberties with the license to create the classes they already have, asking for more just doesn't seem to fit in my opinion.

But while I am reading the book I can actually see that no liberties were taken, and the classes are congruent with the lore, but in the same breath I agree pushing for more beyond what is may be tough.

Perhaps if they had chosen to stay on the original path and create a skill based game where players could train the skills they really wanted the game would have been able to provide greater flexibility, but the world will never know now.

Maybe, but with deeds, traits, and reputations, we can be flexable with our characters a lot more than people realize.  And since hobbies were introduced and we still have a lot more territory to "discover" that flexibility will only grow with the addition of new content.

Something finite like an MMORPG with borders, edges, and limited will NEVER replace something infinite to include the unlimited freedom of a good imagination.  Because AC was your first "real" experience with an MMORPG and your imagination at that time had not experienced such wonder, once that imagination had time to catch up to that "first experience" with an MMORPG nothing will ever come close again.
