Yes, I'm actually not complainning on restarts, I'm complaining that SV does do it on weekends. Clearly they must know that there software is leaking so badly(either by design, debug or poor coding) that it needs cleaning daily.

Well it's sunday and all is hell in Neva, Navi or what a hell its called. Lets recap some events:

Friday, game is playable and server reboot is done when SV people leave office.

Saturday, NPCs are dropping thru buildings and having graphical glitches. Desync issues are growing, server and client doesn't seem to communicate unless needed.

Sunday, Major lag and NPCs bugging.

Whole MO reminds me old MMOs, constant server reboots, design flaws and amateur mistakes all over. I guess that what is called UO heritage.

Why wouldn't you play this over WoW? Besides the fact that its free, and has NOTHING to do with WoW besides perhaps vague similarities with the art style, how about the various unique features (astral ships, gibberlings*a race that is technically three creatures*) level of detail (pet types actually vary between not just class but race and even gender), the integration of exploration and objectives beyond raiding/gear grinding, and an overall unique and refreshing story instead of one that is a clusterfuck of childish over the top fart jokes built on top of modified warhammer IP? Hell, even the tweaks to similar classes that give them far more depth than their knuckle roll counterparts in WoW, being able to apply skill points yourself and the general versatility of the classes available, or the flat out more unique classes like the mesmer/psion.

The list could go on. Allods takes itself considerably more seriously, and actually has a story to tell that isn't hamfisted together so that they can base expansion content off it. Additionally, I have considerably more respect for the developers, as they have been making compromises instead of flat out pandering to the community, to maintain the vision of the game while still keeping it fun. They don't want a minimap in the game because it kills the immersion and hurts the "exploration" feel as you're always looking at a little box with arrows instead of pulling out your map or putting areas to memory (like we used to), but are considering allowing for a transparent map overlay due to the sheer amount of whining from the WoW transfers Allods has acquired recently. Personally, I would have preferred they held to their guns a bit more, but they didn't say "screw the feel/philosophy of the game, lets add a minimap and a bunch of other crap so they'll buy stuff" like Activision would have in a second.

People need to stop the Allods=WoW comparisons. They look similar. They are nothing alike.

Fanboi alert! Allods is so much WoW clone that it can be. There is some nice "unique" features but the base is more from WoW than any other MMO. You seem to think Allods character system is so much better but it hardly is, you can already start seeing certain uber builds coming. Also there seems to be no class balance which they will need to fix. Lore, please you making me laugh. Copying WoW isn't bad thing, but they didn't bother refine ideas enough to make it unique game. Personally I have little faith on F2P games, they often start fine but ones they figure out most don't want to pay they buff CS too much and ruin game.

Don't let the fans hear you talking about an in-game chat.  They want it hardcore, no map, no compass, no chat, no nothing, just featureless.  If you want, they have an out-of-game IRC channel they have been advertising as the "official trade channel" (pretty unprofessional I know, but they don't want it in the game so SV made it outside the game that makes you install 3rd party software just to run!  Love hardcore games!!)

www.mortalonline.com/forums/29902-mortal-online-trade-channel-irc.html

There isn't enough stuff to do as they are still trying to fix the lag in the game, and the more content that is in it (reason why they made houses more expensive) is because it will cause the game to lag more and more.

Today I actually experienced all time low when I went wandering and dropped thru world in water. After that I couldn't get back to priest even with stuck so I used recall to nearest shrine. After talking to priest and coming alive I had absolutly no clue where the hell I was, so I started just moving one way. Big mistake since it turned out to be quite deadend. On that trip I experienced pure boredom that I have never experienced on any other MMO. There was no one to talk since no chat, there was no quick recall, there was no mobs to kiil, the view had bored to death long ago, I couldn't alt+tab since I had to turn sometimes, it was pure boredom for almost 15mins. I have nothing against hardcore games as long as they are hard, but making everything just painfully diffucult to do isn't hard. One of best games are hard, but still very enjoyable to play.

It is fun exploring the world, the graphics look awesome... but once you start getting into the basics of the game mechanics, its a total disaster.  I would never play the game from what you just told us about what the patch changed.

Partly agree. Graphics aren't awesome. If you look far it looks very good(sky), at close it looks nice(trees, plats and animals) and hideous on icons(seriously is this 90's???). Problem also is that everything feels really static. Sure there is farms, buildings and stuff but they don't have any animation or anything. Also fauna and flora feels scattered, there is no real themes on places, everthing is just planted around to fill empty space. Also things are overly big, making everything feel even more scattered. Animation is horrible on those part that it exists, which isn't much. All UI elements look like coming from 90's Linux desktop. Also the color palet is very brown and dirty, this makes everything lot darker and uglier. Usage of brighter colors and counter colors would make it much prettier yet realistic.

Huge problem is also communication. Sometimes running around you feel like playing single game. Atleast some sort of chat would be needed. Also OB community seems to have lot of mute players, nobody answers anything when you talk to them, suddenly you find yourself missing even Barrens chat.

Bugs, lag, dsync issues are just tip of iceberg. There isn't enough stuff, they build huge sandbox but there isn't enough to do. Most of the time I feel like being wood puppet, there isn't natural moving and having to switch mousemode and back is pain. There is so many design fails that they will back bite somepoint.

I give 2/10 also since it is way too raw game. If SV would have just made small sandbox with lots of toys it might have worked.

You were fucked by your guild leader.

It is sad this happened to you, but you should blame him, no one else.

Hardly a reason for NcSoft to ban HIM! I mean clearly they gone nuts but since this is NcSoft I'm not suprised. They have really crappy customer service.

not sure yet!ps3 is a good solution to aging computer but so far not that many mmo. and the fact that just upgrading my network card to a giga and processor to a x2 6000 will bring it up to speed isnt worth a new computer graphic ,yes in 2 years dx11 will be everywhere but for now we have to wait till they get devlopped. ps3 hasnt a clear path yet true mag will be insane.ff14 could be nice. but aside from those two what do game warrent buying a ps3 xbox!now i know a game that warrent buying the system, halo reach!that game warrent buying that console just by itself.but since microsoft had so many issue in the past with xbox i ll skip and just upgrade the 2 part i mentioned to get up to speed since my connection is 9.4 mb/s and the cap of my network card is 12.5 mb/s way to close for confort!

You make no sense and upgrading network card makes no sense at all since trunk network can barely push over 10Mbps speeds. So unless you have straight cable to SE server, having gigabit network card makes no sense.

But back to original topic, switching between keyboard and controller sounds like pain in ass so unless there is voice communication inside game I doubt switching between keyboard and controller is option.

No point really. I tried it again and it was pure ghost town in T2-T3 with usually less than 10 players per zone. Also I never liked repeative PvE (hubs were cool first but got boring after you find out that all maps were carbon copies) so going back and trying do those alone wasn't fun. PvP instances and RvR was still fun but lack of players made it less exciting. It might be more fun ones you hit lvl cap but getting there is too much pain for me.

Instanced open world is so 90's and should disappier from MMOs. Why, because its technical problem nothing else. Ever since WoW came popular I been wondering why some companies still use instanced open worlds, it ruins feeling and just proofs they didn't evolve. I don't mind instanced battlefields or pve instances, but open world should be just one instance.

I tackle the question raised by the OP everytime I log into the game. And, at this point, I really doubt that anyone can broadly say: "You can be whatever you want!"

In theory, yes, you can. However, when reality rears its ugly face, things change. The world (and players) force you into some moulds, such as "Gotta use X into PVP, or you are gimped.", "You must have Fire Magic, otherwise you are useless to clans." Stuff like that.

One good example is Knifes and Greatmauls. Barely anyone use those. Why? Because they are "bad". If you don't push yourself into the optimal profile, you are just a nuisance and won't be accepted in many guilds. This is a very common subject of discussion in RA.

I heard this some times, already, when I said I wouldn't deal in magic: "LOL, then u suck." Ipsis literis, from at least 3 different people.

Specialization is a good and bad thing, at the same time. Good because it does provide an element of mystery regarding your enemy, but it shows a commitment from AV into perpetuating this mindset.

I'm still ok because I'm exploring and beefing up a bit. But when I go into the whole PVP thing, I expect several disappointments, however.

I thank you sir/ma'am! This and as Xpiher said high focus on PvP has made DF community focused on highly competive dicks as I would put it. True competition is driving DF population towards optimal build, this makes RPG component somewhat lacking. Sure you can do RPG but don't bother getting symphaty from highly competive dicks. That's the reason why I don't play this game and why my friend does. It's also reason why I never play anything against him because he is highly competive dick and that makes me wanna punch him, again. Plainly OP DF is wrong game to you.

Houses have to be built  from the ground up. You have to buy a house plan. Find a place in the world you want to build on. Gather materials and actually build the house. Houses have hitpoints and can be destroyed with seige equipment. But as I said earlier, everything is persistant. The seige equipment has to be built and moved to where you want it to go. That includes bridges that can be destroyed or built by players.

MO will have no seige mechanics in at launch. You can form a guild city with walls that can be destroyed. Guilds can declare war, but they have not finalliezed if the chalenged guild can decline.

Well done mister/miss fanboi, you just listed features that most aren't in MO. Only housing is there and it reminds much of DF system. Listing things that doesn't even excist in MO is true sign of fanboism.

MO has much better graphics, but that can be a bad thing for some. There may not be the large battles that DF has because of the graphics.

True, except animation is somewhat jerky sometimes. None the less, point.

MO combat is much slower and possibly more tactical. MO is FPV only at all times.

Rubbish. Even SV developers are tampering with combat speed, just to point it isn't nowhere near to be done. Combat is slow and hugely prone to lag, you need more luck than skill after getting used to it.

Crafting is actually crafting. You have to know about the design of a product you want to produce. You can choose the quailty and quantity of material in each item. You can mix and match almost anything for thousands of combinations. You can reverse craft to find out how to make something found in the world. And much more I don't know enough to talk about. It will be a game within a game, complete with your own store front from your house.

"Oh my MMO has truly realistic crafting where webcam smoothly transfers players movement and offers feedback by FanboiBullshiter4000 usb-device." That statement is as true as your statement on MO crafting. MO crafting is totally lacking thus all you say is false!

Local banking only. You will have to transport everything you want to sell in the game. You have a weight limit, so cravans will have to be formed for protection.

No global chat. You will have guild chat and say chat with a limited distance.

True points, I give you points for those because they actually are true. I won't bother argue how stupid these artificial limits are and prone to cause lot of problems.

What you really just say are small details. Comparing MO and DF is pretty much same as comparing two flavors of ice cream. Where as MMO like WoW is more like carrot, both icecream and carrot are foods.
Truth is that DF and MO are really similiar:
No dungeons. All open world.
Crafting oriented. Meaning most are crafted.
"Skill" based. Meaning there isn't ultimate weapons compared to WoW.
No true goals. Again compare WoW which is tier based.
Sandboxes.
Gothic view. Everything is "realistic" and dark.
Hardcore attidute.

Difference between DF and MO? Well DF has fans who hate MO and MO has fans that hate DF, simply.

Basicly they are very same kind a games. Ignore most of comments since they seem to be "Oh it WILL be great" type fanboi comments. Currently MO is very simple and almost all things people are advertising are missing or just plain stubs. Everything is very basic and buggy, basicly you will be working as internal tester.

So if you want to play NOW game full of hardcore asshole fanbois, FFA, "true" PvP and other hardcore shit: Go buy DF. MO won't be anywhere near same state until 6 months or so. My advice would be wait 6 months and then compare these two games, ofc it's highly possible that neither of them excists then.

Nice list Im gonna comment what kind a people this would bring:

5) Virtual Realm social porn masturbaters and teen whores(last was true in old sims online).

4) Who the hell is Nancy Drew???

3) Uber nerds, do we really need more of them?

2) Middle aged mens (seriously have you ever seen woman near legos?) who think they are kids.

1) Pedobears with Emma Watson posters

is there an everquest 3 on the horizon?

Perhaps near second coming of Jesus (to smack Al Gore). Unfortunatly SOE seems to be quite mess these days. I think EQ2 failed so badly that they put that franchise on shelf for while. All and all it's pretty hard to find intresting game coming out other than Old Republic that would meet your requirements, I'm on same boat with you.

Hate to break it to ya guys, but my Mac is just as good a general purpose gaming rig as the next guy, and better regular day to day computer to boot. But no one knows until they finally make the switch.

Only difference ofc that you pay lot of overprice for PC that can run Mac OS legally, which ofc can't run most games so you end up bootcamping back to Windows all time you want to play more than those 10 games.

As for AION this whole article is basicaly a "use bootcamp" answer.

Which makes whole article totally pointless. Like I said Macs are PCs, been since they moved away from PPC (PowerPC). Whole article could been just simple "How to run Aion on Mac? Use Windows."

For some reason Windows ALWAYS runs hotter than OS X does on the same equipment.

Best thing is to upgrade drivers with non-Apple versions, they much more optimized.

What I understand is that combat is really same way as Darkfall. Atleast in start it's more melee-ranged based without so much magic. They atleast try to make ruleset to reward true combat instead of gankin and macroing. Economy seems to based on crafting instead of mob grinding, no clue does items broke to make it real economy.

PVE is big mystery. They haven't showed any so it's unclear is there anything ready or is it in starting position. I think there main goal is make partial release with most stuff missing and add them in time based.

All I can say is that game sounds intresting but I'm really skeptic how well they can keep up player base after release.

Great thing that SV is telling which block you can get in. Since atleast 1 person has confirmed been in block C means atleast aprox. 6k people have bought game, not bad giving it was bit more expensive and state of game.

Okey I didn't buy game in the end since I calculated having really narrow change to get first beta blocks for summer holiday. So I would like to people who did buy but didn't get in first block to answer on this post. It's pretty bad way to determine popularity of game but atleast it gives us some kind a indication how popular this game is. Please no junk posts.

Wait till digital. it will be liek 40 eurps. much cheaper. thats also where SV makes there money

But you won't get to first beta blocks, instead you will be in bottom. Plus in site there was clearly telled that you can buy 3 different versions, Digital, Boxed, Limited, BUT you can't. Instead it's over 100 euros for limited which are sold out, 69 euros for boxed which includes shipping country next to sweden. Bit too much for my taste.

OP: Based on MO site preview of shop you don't need to buy boxed or any physical edition but you can still preorder digital download. Or have they changed this?
