Originally posted by Arcken I agree with you Arcken. Thats why i will stick with this game for a month to see how i still feel. Its just lame that my first impression is so....bad. I really had high hopes and was expecting that feel i had with games like eq2 and eve where you are so excited the first few hours and you want to learn and do everything you can in the game. :*(
Quick question to you thought; do you use pc or console and if pc, do you use a usb controller? |

Survival spec for raiding lol. I guess you really bit the bullet on that one. MM is soo much more entertaining. You probably know all this already though.
Anyways, i think the pvp was fun. Yeah it was annoying when you fight a combo in arena that is almost impossible to beat, but hey its a rock paper scissor game. |

So, i bought the vana'diel collection 2007 for pc which includes the first three expansions along with final fantasy 11. I have heard from many people that the game is more fun and easier with a controller. Well i dont have a controller, so i guess that already puts me at a disadvantage. Anyways i would like to list some issues i had and maybe get a response from some vets about their feelings on these particular aspects. 1. Graphics- The resolution needed to be changed from the beginning. It was annoying that i could not do that while ingame. Once i found the config file, it was a pretty simple fix. 2. Controls- OMG SOOOO ANNOYING. Im trying very hard to get use to using my number pad to move but having played all my other mmos using wsad to move, you can see my frustration. Also, not able to customize the keyboard? That is total bullshit. I even searched the Q&A thread and it said players were not able to customize keybindings. If ANYBODY has a solution to this, PLEASE tell me. 3. Gameplay- very stiff movements and boring animations. Even the videos i looked up online of end game content seemed to be similiar to what i experienced my first 2 hours of playing-standing around most of the time and autoattacking. Only the raid bosses seemed to be lively and animated with fluid movements. I hope its just my noobie outlook to the game but i really hope the gameplay becomes more interesting down the line. 4. Action bars- non-customizable and bland. I wasnt expecting much, but coming from world of warcraft and everquest 2, i expected atleast SOMETHING to catch my eye. It seems like theres only the bare minimum in this game. A tutorial about using your menu and action bars would have been helpful aswell. 5. starting area- Honestly, all i wanted to do was kill something the first thirty minutes. instead, i spent my time running around, bombarded by walls of text. I really dont care about the history of my starting area much, i just wanted to jump in and get some action.
For all my bitching, i will say that the community i have experienced so far has been very helpful and kind to me. Questions were answered respectfully and thoughtfully and some players went out of their way to help me during battle. I will say that im starting to feel the game isn't for me, but i think i will give it a week before i make my final decision. |

One huge difference between tbc and pre-tbc was the way epics were distributed. Back in tbc, if somebody had epics, they WORKED for those epics (except when they implemented the new honor system which basically gave out epics for bg grinding, but in a way that is still work.) When you saw somebody with any of the three tier armor or zg and aq gear, you knew they spent the time to get 39 other people with the right amount of healers, tanks, and dps (no easy task) and spent hours wiping or clearing so only ten percent of the raid could get items.
Now, you hit 70, run av all day, and you can get epics. Meh...it destroys the feeling of being superior to other players LOL. |

Crazed, desperate Smed makes one last mad throw of the dice: 'New SOE PS3 MMO will crush WoW!' March 17 2008

Oh, id like to add that i definetly prefer a mouse and keyboard over a controller for my mmorpgs. Playstation three bridges that cap between console and computer controls |

I think the author of that article, Mr. Andrew Webster made a very big deal (Hence the article's title) out of nothing. From what i read, Smed has a good point about the playstation 3's hardware. Designing a game to work on one model of hardware eliminates a huge amount of bugs and issues. Also, i would be very excited to play a playstation 3 mmorpg. My computer has been outdated for years and i know by using my playstation 3 to play my favorite genre, i am saving hundreds of dollars that would otherwise be spent on computer upgrades.
So maybe take a step back from your bias opinions for a second and look at the article for what it is: a speculation on playstation 3 mmo success. |

LOTRO will eventually have a bad community just like World of Warcraft's "immature" community. I personally thing WoW's community has a wide variety of player personalities but i can definetly see why people would mark it as "immature". What most people dont take into account is the fact that WoW, when it first started out, had a fairly mature, fairly helpful community that liked to do random things together like have naked lines dances, form huge groups for screen shots, and also have naked gnome fight clubs. But besides that, people were very helpful with questions and very eager to please one another. I imagine LOTRO is the same. It will probably stay that way until there are more and more veterans to the game who simple get annoyed with new members. It happened in everquest 1 and 2, it happens (sort of) in Eve, It happenes, my guess, in most mmorpgs. LOTRO will eventually get assholes. |

Would You Start An old Mmo? (POLL)
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 3/09/08 3:50:15 PM
Ive reactived my eq2, wow, and eve accounts numerous times. Ive also canceled this numerous times. Every time i came back, i seemed to love the game more then i had previously. Now i do not play any mmorpg in anticipation of WAR. |

Originally posted by Godliest I agree, WoW's fanbase is so big and diverse that I wouldn't even classify them as part of the mmorpg community simple because they are interested in world of warcraft and only world of warcraft. Of course there a slim few who are interested in other mmorpgs, but the vast majority will only fit with WoW. |

Its a fun game. I no longer play because i started getting into call of duty 4 again, but i did have fun playing TR. One of the things i really liked was the feeling that you were in the middle of a constant battle. Huge mobs would spawn and everybody in the area would rush them :P Ive played very few mmorpgs "in-depth" but the only other mass attacking with your fellow players ive experienced was pre-battlegrounds world of warcraft world pvp (south shore vs. tauren mill :) and planetside. Ive heard the original star wars galaxies had this same "aspect" along with lineage 2 and shadowbane. |

Meh, i still think Vanguard looks nicer then LOTRO. Eve is another game that looks truly immersive to me. Specially since theres one big server where everybody interacts. I played the trial and was amazed at the beauty of the game. Floating in space and looking at all the space dust and how it interacts with the light was pretty awesome. I know a poster mentioned it before, but ill say it again; I want a game where i can try anything i want whenever i want. (Sandbox?) |
