Starwars the old republic (one word) FAIL
Reviews & Impressions « Star Wars: The Old Republic 1/27/12 5:24:32 AM
Originally posted by Corehaven Bioware got to make this awesome, beautiful looking, story and characters. Then, they said, "OKAY LETS MAKE THE CHARACTERS MOVE AND SHIT LIKE OTHER MMOS DERP DE DERP" and in comes Mythic. Mythic goes "WE GOT THIS GUYS LOOLZ WE MADE DAOC AND WARHAMMER LALWZ WE KNOW THIS SHIAT" So Mythic is allowed to do the thing they've been doing for the past 10 years and that's coming up with shitty ideas and then when trying to put said shitty ideas in the game, only complete 75% of each shitty idea, thus making the shitty ideas even shittier. So EA comes in and goes "HEY GUYZ WE NEED TO MAKE MONEY SO WE DON'T PISS OFF OUR INVESTORS - GIVE US WHATEVER SHIT YOU HAVE NOW AND WE WILL RELEASE IT DURING THE HOLIDAY SEASON - DONT WORRY IF ITS REALLY SHITTY, ITS STAR WARS AND THAT WILL SELL LAWLS" and thus...SWTOR is born! :D |

THQ Ex-Employee Lashes Out Against Managing Staff, Board

You'd think this employee would have one or two people proof read his work before he sent it in... Sorry i'm a grammar nazi. |

Originally posted by nyxium I quit in October because hype was building for SWTOR and I was finding less and less time to sit down and play WoW. I said good bye to my arena partners and bounced. I found the time to focus on SWTOR and that game is so buggy and unpolished that I found myself disappointed in another next gen MMO all over again (Warhammer, Aion, SWTOR...) Seriously..Blizzard ruined all other mmos for me by raising the bar too high. I'm thinking of just calling it quits and not playing anymore mmoprgs, or atleast the ones that are EQ clones. |

Major turnoff: highly "macroable" combat
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 1/25/12 4:55:55 AM
Macros are an extremely useful tool and if the developers implement them correctly, they will not allow this "win button" scenario that the OP mentioned. I don't know about you guys but I like the fact that I could free up space with macros. When I sent my hunter pet in WoW, I also instantly put on hunter's mark on my target. Two instant cast abilities, only one was tied to my global cooldown. One easy macro saved up one slot on my ability bar. Or my warrior's macro to jump in defensive stance (tied to the global cooldown) and instantly equip a shield and 1 hand sword (not tied to the global cooldown) Or my mage's macro that when I pressed would instantly make me stop casting and instead cast my instant ability, counterspell (tied to the global cooldown). This would ensure that when I really needed to get a counterspell off, say on a clutch heal or something, I will stop what I am doing and get that counterspell off. Macros make gameplay quicker. All top pvpers in WoW arena use macro and non of them break the game or are instant GG. Many of these arena players are using well over 30+ keybinds.

Healers in PVE servers are harrasing us
General Discussion « Star Wars: The Old Republic 1/25/12 4:42:21 AM
Originally posted by Castillle I think you need to cancel your sub. Seriously. All these problems are a representation of BW/Mythic/EA as a whole. This is an example of bad game design showing how the devs cut corners and do not fully think out the mechanics they implement. It won't stop. Every new content release will showcase more and more of these bad designs. The same exact thing happened with Warhammer. Ask yourself this: How much are you willing to put up with? |

Ability Delay Makes an Appearance in Today's Patch
General Discussion « Star Wars: The Old Republic 1/25/12 4:08:06 AM
Originally posted by Whiskey_Sam They didn't fix it. BW/Mythic/EA said they did, but the main issue is still there. :( People are still reporting ability delay in this thread which is a continuation of the thread xcore started. While there are improvements between abilities, making more fluid fighting, players are reporting that animation time is still taking precedence over cast bar. /sigh |

Would SWTOR be fun for a non-quester/open-world type player?

SWTOR is the most quest driven mmo to date. |

Ability Delay to the Max!!!!!

I think the reason is all the issues I've encountered (GCD bugging out, animations not stopping, animation taking precedence over ability cast time..) all effect ability so that is why everybody calls it ability delay. |

Ability Delay to the Max!!!!!
General Discussion « Star Wars: The Old Republic 1/23/12 7:12:06 AM
Originally posted by Charas I think people are getting a little confused about what ability delay is. This issue effects everybody, whether in pvp or pve. The ability delay is tied to animation mechanics of abilities. In SWTOR, abilities are triggered when the animation of said ability is completed. However, many of the animations are actually LONGER then the cast time of the ability, leaving a weird state of limbo a player cannot use his next ability until the previous ability animation is done. I will write up a quick example: Ability "A" takes 2.0 seconds to cast but has a 2.5 second animation. Ability B is an instant cast spell with a 1.0 cast animation. Player cast ability A. After 2.0 seconds, player wants to cast ability B. However, player must wait an extra .5 seconds before he can cast ability B because the animation of ability A is not finished yet. In WoW, cast time > ability animation. That causes some abilities to clip, but ultimately leads to a tighter, more fluid gameplay. Compare this WoW video with this SWTOR video to see how in SWTOR ability delay keeps the player from not mounting up despite the cast bar being complete. |

Originally posted by itgrowls I played WoW in 2004 for a few months then I came back in 2006 (still in vanilla) and continued to play through the release of BC (2007). WoW never had this issue. Their controls were always crisp and extremely responsive. Watch old WoW pvp videos to verify. |

Ability Delay to the Max!!!!!
General Discussion « Star Wars: The Old Republic 1/23/12 1:53:33 AM
Originally posted by Gibbonici The extent of the problem is really bad. Fixing it will then alter other areas like resource management and game pacing. It is a fundamental building block of mmorpgs that they are trying to fix; a basic mechanic of gameplay. I don't think the problem will be an easy fix. |

All the issues this game is having will come back to haunt BW/Mythic/EA. A company this size with this amount of money only has one plan when creating an MMO at this caliber and that is to reach the success that Blizzard has. They have already started losing players in their first month so I guess its back to the drawing board. |

Star Wars: The Old Republic: No General Valor Rollback But...
News Discussion « General Discussion 1/23/12 1:20:58 AM
The first mistake here was hiring the Mythic team to design the pvp system in SWTOR. What happened in Warhammer should have been alarming to any team looking to build a next gen mmo. The people running EA clearly do not play games because they would have axed the Mythic team. |
