So, voice acting is what makes a good mmo?  Right....

Prepare to get a dozen replys about Swtor not being a PvP centric game.  That seems to be the common defence.

However if they werent going to have decent PVP I say they shouldnt have put it in the game at all.  Do it right or dont do it.  But from what little I played of Swtor, I cant even agree with it being an mmorpg.  It seems unecessary.  And through giving it the mmo treatment its dubbed down far and beyond anything resembling the quality of Mass Effect.

Its not that Im against an Old Republic mmorpg.  As long as its done right.  This was a poor attempt.  If they had spent a little more of their budget on game design and game play things might have been different.  Voice overs are swell stuff.  But its fluff.  No amount of voice overs is going to make a bad game good.  Someone in charge really should have realized that.

Bioware got to make this awesome, beautiful looking, story and characters.  Then, they said, "OKAY LETS MAKE THE CHARACTERS MOVE AND SHIT LIKE OTHER MMOS DERP DE DERP" and in comes Mythic.  Mythic goes "WE GOT THIS GUYS LOOLZ WE MADE DAOC AND WARHAMMER LALWZ WE KNOW THIS SHIAT" So Mythic is allowed to do the thing they've been doing for the past 10 years and that's coming up with shitty ideas and then when trying to put said shitty ideas in the game, only complete 75% of each shitty idea, thus making the shitty ideas even shittier.

So EA comes in and goes "HEY GUYZ WE NEED TO MAKE MONEY SO WE DON'T PISS OFF OUR INVESTORS - GIVE US WHATEVER SHIT YOU HAVE NOW AND WE WILL RELEASE IT DURING THE HOLIDAY SEASON - DONT WORRY IF ITS REALLY SHITTY, ITS STAR WARS AND THAT WILL SELL LAWLS"

and thus...SWTOR is born! :D

You'd think this employee would have one or two people proof read his work before he sent it in...

Sorry i'm a grammar nazi.

I left a couple of days ago, guild, everything. It feels good. I'm going f2p, b2p, which means DDO and potentially Guild Wars 2 if they retain their current business model. I've never felt better. Panda's I can play with, but I'm moving on as well.

I quit in October because hype was building for SWTOR and I was finding less and less time to sit down and play WoW.  I said good bye to my arena partners and bounced.

I found the time to focus on SWTOR and that game is so buggy and unpolished that I found myself disappointed in another next gen MMO all over again (Warhammer, Aion, SWTOR...)

Seriously..Blizzard ruined all other mmos for me by raising the bar too high.  I'm thinking of just calling it quits and not playing anymore mmoprgs, or atleast the ones that are EQ clones.

Macros are an extremely useful tool and if the developers implement them correctly, they will not allow this "win button" scenario that the OP mentioned.

I don't know about you guys but I like the fact that I could free up space with macros.

When I sent my hunter pet in WoW, I also instantly put on hunter's mark on my target. Two instant cast abilities, only one was tied to my global cooldown.  One easy macro saved up one slot on my ability bar.

Or my warrior's macro to jump in defensive stance (tied to the global cooldown) and instantly equip a shield and 1 hand sword (not tied to the global cooldown)

Or my mage's macro that when I pressed would instantly make me stop casting and instead cast my instant ability, counterspell (tied to the global cooldown).  This would ensure that when I really needed to get a counterspell off, say on a clutch heal or something, I will stop what I am doing and get that counterspell off.

Macros make gameplay quicker.  All top pvpers in WoW arena use macro and non of them break the game or are instant GG.  Many of these arena players are using well over 30+ keybinds.

So if you didnt know...The imperial healers can just waltz over to the heroic area in illum (or other places tbh) and they can just stay there unflagged WHILE HEALING THE NPCS!

It is a huge pain in the ***** and we need this fixed please. At least make those npcs flag people for pvp if theyre healing them! T_T

Sooo annoying to be fighting then a healer comes over, cleanses the CC and starts healing all the npcs x.x Its annoying and its evil and we need it stopped!

Edit : Flagging them for pvp would be the best solution so we can flip out and kick their *****

What do you guys think?

I think you need to cancel your sub.  Seriously.  All these problems are a representation of BW/Mythic/EA as a whole.  This is an example of bad game design showing how the devs cut corners and do not fully think out the mechanics they implement.  It won't stop.  Every new content release will showcase more and more of these bad designs.  The same exact thing happened with Warhammer.

Ask yourself this: How much are you willing to put up with?

The speeder thing is separate from ability delay, but it IS a bug.  The animation should be synched with the progress bar, otherwise what's the point of the progress bar?

They didn't fix it.  BW/Mythic/EA said they did, but the main issue is still there.

 :(

People are still reporting ability delay in this thread which is a continuation of the thread xcore started.

While there are improvements between abilities, making more fluid fighting, players are reporting that animation time is still taking precedence over cast bar.

/sigh

SWTOR is the most quest driven mmo to date.

Good for Jagex.  I hope the Snellmans suffer for this.

I lol'd

They have a rail-shooter minigame!  AH HA!

Actually I just don't understand what are you trying to convey. Are you trying to suggest that because you don't see the issues as a problem all should adopt this position? Ability delay is a problem for many of us.
Well at least you admitted you have the problem of abilities not firing, but this is just one of them.

Im more of having a problem with the fact that everything is blanketed under "Ability delay" even if its not ability delay per say such as abilities getting flat out cancelled or abilities not working or even the gcd bugs (grenades working but it DOES trigger the GCD even if its not showing the spin. tested and provable by using grenade + non gcd ability followed by grenade + gcd ability)

Instead of people actually figuring out intended or not, people just post in the forums en masse without actually giving exact info.

Yes there ARE issues with the combat system but not all of them are "ability delay" There are issues which no one brings up. Why? Because people blanket them in "Ability Delay"

Some abilities cause the GCD to happen without the spinning gcd thing on powers.  Do people mension that? No.  They just say "ability delay"

The first ability you get (one that costs no energy) cant be used with insta non gcd links stuff.  Do people notice this is an exception? no.  Its "ability delay"

Not to mension most of these "ability delays" are actually just found in warzones.

The ones that are found everywhere is the animation tied to effects causing a problem for moves longer than gcd n stuff o.O

Castillle you are so, so so right.  Thats the sad part.  There are multiple issues and most people are just slumping them into the broad category of ability delay.  These issues should have been worked out in beta (and some people say they were while others say the devs ignored their feedback and pushed the game out live).

I think the reason is all the issues I've encountered (GCD bugging out, animations not stopping, animation taking precedence over ability cast time..) all effect ability so that is why everybody calls it ability delay.

I have to say this problem has been very annoying on my Sith Warrior. It's mostly noticable with retaliation and other instant abilities, either they get stuck and don't fire off (animation gets half done and just repeats itself no matter how many times I spam it) or they take up GCD in some cases. It's extremely noticeable when you are about to deal the killing blow, your abilities just stall until he dies (with the slow attacks of the juggernaut it's a bit more noticeable).

Try to stop spamming maybe??

I noticed on my sniper that i would stop throwing my granade halfway if i would spam the button for it its like the ability would start activating new every time i hit the button

That of course isnt a big prob since just playing controlled without mindless spamming solved that prob for me np i would not call that an ability delay to begin with its more like a player mistake

Ever play league of legends?  Maybe Dota or HON?  How about BlazBlue or Streetfighter?  Starcraft 1 or 2?  Maybe WoW arena?

If you asked the best players in these games to stop spamming buttons they would laugh at you.  The fact of the matter is, players spam buttons to ensure that they pull off the quickest actions per second that the game allows.

NOW you make a post about it? NOW that they said they found a bug and are working on a fix? :) okai.

They said they found a bug that might cause the problem on low end machines.

Well, I don't have a low end machine yet I have this ability delay (only in warzones), so I doubt this fix will do anything for me.

I think people are getting a little confused about what ability delay is.  This issue effects everybody, whether in pvp or pve.  The ability delay is tied to animation mechanics of abilities.

In SWTOR, abilities are triggered when the animation of said ability is completed.  However, many of the animations are actually LONGER then the cast time of the ability, leaving a weird state of limbo a player cannot use his next ability until the previous ability animation is done.

I will write up a quick example:

Ability "A" takes 2.0 seconds to cast but has a 2.5 second animation.  Ability B is an instant cast spell with a 1.0 cast animation.

Player cast ability A.  After 2.0 seconds, player wants to cast ability B.  However, player must wait an extra .5 seconds before he can cast ability B because the animation of ability A is not finished yet.

In WoW, cast time > ability animation.  That causes some abilities to clip, but ultimately leads to a tighter, more fluid gameplay.

Compare this WoW video with this SWTOR video to see how in SWTOR ability delay keeps the player from not mounting up despite the cast bar being complete.

Why not just adjust the Cast times than?

I rather have my animation to be done before i start a new action so the best way would be to give ability A a 2.5 sec cast time and all would be fixed XD

While this would seem like a good solution, it would still cause issues with instant cast abilities that are still tied to animations.

Actually WoW did have this issue as i recall and they fixed it before bc was released. Tho i'm in total agreement with you this kind of crap should never have gotten past ALPHA much less any of the other beta stages before launch.

I played WoW in 2004 for a few months then I came back in 2006 (still in vanilla) and continued to play through the release of BC (2007).  WoW never had this issue.  Their controls were always crisp and extremely responsive.  Watch old WoW pvp videos to verify.

I am sure it will be fixed but i want to know... how the hell did bioware/EA settle on the Hero Engine ( unproven in MMos )

They spend 200 million to develop a game and buy an engine that is totally unproven in MMOs...

*boggle*

To be fair, almost all MMO engines are unproven in MMOs until said MMO is released. And most need tweaking and improving throughout the lifespan of the game.

TOR's been out for barely a month and it has its issues and shortfallings which will be fixed and improved over time. It's business as usual.

The extent of the problem is really bad.  Fixing it will then alter other areas like resource management and game pacing.

It is a fundamental building block of mmorpgs that they are trying to fix; a basic mechanic of gameplay.  I don't think the problem will be an easy fix.

All the issues this game is having will come back to haunt BW/Mythic/EA.

A company this size with this amount of money only has one plan when creating an MMO at this caliber and that is to reach the success that Blizzard has.  They have already started losing players in their first month so I guess its back to the drawing board.

The first mistake here was hiring the Mythic team to design the pvp system in SWTOR.  What happened in Warhammer should have been alarming to any team looking to build a next gen mmo.

The people running EA clearly do not play games because they would have axed the Mythic team.
