10 DAY BUMP

hi
SPAM Forum « General Discussion

hi

I encourage you to to play alliance.

I do not prefer the faction myself (despite having an 80 human pally) but they are the underdogs and therefore they have much faster bg Queues and also tend to balance out wintergrasp and the game in general.

Play alliance!

I haven't seen a single incident with the dozen or so people that I have seen with the pets.  Nobody cares.  They are cool, funny pets who make funny sounds.

I would give more flak to somebody who paid to change their name in order to get rid of their notoriety as a ninja or an assshole over somebody who bought an ingame pet for 10$.

UO: Freedom, Player decisions.

Can you be more specific please.

After following the thread from Skarwolf "Why do you Hate WOW?" I was very tempted to see people further their discussion about their personal MMORPG being better then WoW.  Skarwolf's discussion can be found here: http://www.mmorpg.com/discussion2.cfm/thread/259309/Why-do-you-Hate-WOW-.html

So I ask the question to all that would like to not hold back and be honest: What feature about WoW do you think the current MMORPG that you are playing does better?

EDIT: Please be as detailed and specific as possible.  Some of us have never played Ultima Online, Eve Online, Everquest 1, Dark age of Camelot, Ect.

I feel "evil" is an obscene exaggeration.

Evil was Hitler. Evil was Saddam. Evil is Emperor Palpatine. A game company can make decisions you find disappointing. But as the the cliche, yes I think indeed Blizzard is way more "evil". SOE alas has Smed, who just is DUMB.

Only Palpatine was evil because "evil" is a fantasy term.  In reality, nobody is evil.

Yea, the route for those who actually want to make the games is...

University -> QA -> Dev Peon -> Dev -> Senior Dev -> Lead Dev

Substitute Dev for Artisit, Designer or Programmer depending on your university degree :)

Exactly right.  Also, Producers fit into that equation.

The fact of the matter is you work in a ladder; people above you and hopefully people below you.  If you have a degree, you look like a golden ticket to your seniors and bosses that have an opening to fill and do not want to go through the hassle of searching and training people new to the industry.

Go to college

@ OP,

your looking at extremes.  Either solo eveyrthing and do everything alone or group everything and do everything in a group.  WoW provides options.  To get the best of the best gear, yes, you need to group and eventually raid.  WoW is a PVE focused game.  It has never tried to hide from this fact.  WoW just provides options for many different player types.

I seem to remember blizzard saying that they were going to be releasing a new hero class with each new expansion.

Wheres cataclysm's hero class? Why is noone else bitching about this?

You remember wrong.  And no one is bitching because it was never said, except by the voices in your head.

This.

A lot of these changes should have been in since beta.

The problem is the majority of wow players are not mmo fans, they are wow fans...they want every other game to fail so wow can stay at the top, they bash every new game thats being released like fanatical lunatics., just read what that guy zorndorf posts and you will know exactly what i mean.

This is not true at all.  In fact, if you played the most talked about mmos that have come out AFTER WoW was released, you would have seen and heard many players saying things like "thank god this came out, im sick and tired of wow" or "this game kicks WoW's ass" and other things of that sort.

It happened in AoC, it happened in Warhammer, and it happened in Aion.  BUT, then a few months go by and those same players say things like "Fuck this shit, this game has too many problems *sigh* I guess its back to WoW".

WoW players are tired as hell of being in the same game world for almost 5 years but there just isn't any alternative atm that can meet the standards of WoW.

Lets see finding out my girlfriend cheated on me twice, finding out my dad ran over my cat I owned of 10 years, my job having to garnish my wages. But when I came on this site today and saw they gave this piece of turd feces game a 8.7, I nerd raged. I nerd raged big time. in the pants.

If this takes the cake then you are one sad, sad person.

{mod edit}

As much as he is trolling, he does have a good point: MMO companies should create their own security system instead of relying on the tried and failed system of gameguard.

Blizzard and Valve both created their anti-cheating systems.  Do cheats, hacks, and bots still get created for their games?  Yes definitely.  BUT, they are able to respond to the problem and fix it much faster then other companies using a third party program do.

I work on a game that uses gameguard and whenever we have a problem we must first inform our producers who in turn inform our developers who in turn inform gameguard who in turn block the problem.

Companies like Blizzard and Valve cut out the middleman and fix their own problems much fast and more efficiently.  Honestly, I believe it seperates the top devs from the second tier but you dont have to take my word for it, do your own research.

Blizzard !

They  took a hip, counter culture, trendy,  big city, sexy  game genre.... and turned it into an overweight,  suburbs,  soccermom, minivan, daycare , babysitter got knocked up again ..... rerun on TV.

Im sorry to flame here but I dont think the MMORPG genre has every been "hip, counter culture, trendy, big city [WTF?] sexy".  I realize your from Taiwan so anything on that shiny box we call a computer probably seems hip but in reality this genre, which started in the US, was created by D&D fantasy nerds (nothing wrong with being a D&D nerd) who wanted to expand upon MUDs.

INFACT, World of Warcraft is the closest thing that could be considered a "hip" and "trendy" mmorpg since so many people have played it.  Not that it IS "hip" or "trendy" (although you dont see Ozzy Osbourne nor Jay Mohr performing at Ever Quest conventions) but it definitely is far more hip and trendy then other mmos.

ANYWAYS - back on topic;

My vote is Mark Jacobs.

Nah.  Aion don't have complex talent tree like wow.

They use a stigma system.  Which basically means a templar can choose to learn 4 extra skill from a set of 10.

http://www.aionsource.com/forum/general-guides/8915-guide-stigma-system.html

So that's means every templar is basically identically.  It's less interesting than wow.

The plus side is it's easier to balance.

i dont think its less interesting than wow, the truth is that wow has only virtually 3 different builds, if you want to tank everyone uses the same "best build", if you want to dps same and pvp again the same, at least in Aion ppl use different skills from each other. Talent trees in wow is just an obsolete attempt at customization, everyone nowadays uses the exact same builds in every class. Lets see if this changes in the next Xpac with that new talent tree options

Very far from the truth.  Played WoW lately or just go by what you hear the 14 year old next door say?

A friend at my work doesn't like WoW because he says the controls are too simple.   He says he prefers a game with controls that are harder to understand so that it weeds out the bad players early on.

He has good reasoning, yet he doesn't understand that while WoW's controls are easy to understand, they are hard to master.  There is no better example of this then arena.  Most people will never get past a 1500 rating.

Everything that could be done on Wow has been done by many. Extending the level cap to 85  is the very least...notice I said the least Blizzard could do to extend the life of Wow...how sad for a strong Gamemaker such as Blizzard and a strong game like Wow...

If WoW is on it's last legs, what does that say about every other mmo out on the market right now?

While this is definitely adding to the lore of WoW, I would say this just continues the direction that Blizz is heading with their races: I.E. there is good and bad on both sides.  Only Tauren, gnomes, and night elves (not counting blood elves) have been constant in their "good" nature.  Trolls, while part of the horde, are still a wild card just like the Forsaken.  People just dont realize it because Trolls play a smaller role in the main Warcraft storyline.

I think alliance getting the Worgen is helping to re-balance the population.  While alliance was the more popular faction during vanilla, horde suddenly saw their popularity explode during TBC and this continued during wotlk.

I personally like the new races.  I dont like goblins so much so I think I will level a worgen.
