Its really fun

GameOvr the results of Activision/Blizzard's Q4 report are in.  WoW has 10.2 million subs.

http://investor.activision.com/releasedetail.cfm?ReleaseID=647732

How does it feel?

Mythic.  Still waiting to see how this whole Mythic/Bioware thing turns out.

Holy crap - you guys really must not like to PvP if you have such disdain for dueling.  I mean GODDAM we got some carebears in here (just kidding lol).

Dueling is great.  Sure, those annoying assholes who spam request or gloat/cry after a match piss off everybody, but they are few and far between and everybody knows they are dicks and secretly have no friends.

Dueling is great because...

It lets you practice a pvp situation without actually having to die.  You don't have to sit around for 30 seconds waiting to be rezzed.  You don't have to worry about being instantly zerged.  You get to pvp in a controlled environment.

You should compare dueling for pvpers like athletes practicing their sports.

Dueling allows you to learn other classes' abilities.  You get to practice what happens when that Bounty Hunter pops his Energy shield or that Sniper is getting ready to burst you and you should line of sight him or her.

You get to see how close you should be to interrupt a cast or how far you should be to kite melee.  Its practice.  Sure 1v1 isn't balanced but atleast you'll learn how to react in situations and what abilities to watch for and how to counter them.

Dueling is just a tool that good pvpers use to get better.  Don't worry if you lose.  Everybody loses.  Its just part of getting better.

I can actually agree with this even though I normally dislike dueling myself.  The problem I have is that I never get a dueling request from someone that is even close to a match for me.  Instead, I get the random invite from someone that is 5+ levels over me and that I have no chance at all in taking.  This doesn't just go for SWTOR, it goes for every single MMO I have ever played.  As a matter of fact SWTOR is the first one that people within 5 levels of me have even made the challenges.

Endgame FTW!

But yes, I know what you mean.  The people 5 levels above you are really in it just to mess around and see how quickly they can kill you.  Usually not fun at all unless you're that baller and want to see if all that research and careful planning on that Uber OP spec will pay off :)  But agan, thats for the people that gloat and are generally dickholes.

CareBear you say? You think?... ^^  I've no interest at all in MMO PvP. I've been that way for years and years. I suspect that leveling a WoW warrior to 60 in the first year on deathwing (PvP) server, contributed to that. ^^  I quite enjoy some FPS games, but I want nothing what so ever to do with MMO PvP, dueling or not.

Fair enough.  I can relate.  I couldn't give two shits about achievements.  Haven't really been into PvE much either since focusing on PvP.  To each their own.

Lol this guy again?  Oh look, he brought a graph this time.

A game doesn't need addons.  I also don't think Blizzard relies on addons.  Playing the game from vanilla I can tell you the game was working just fine when I didn't use any.  I still know people that don't use any addons.

However, having used addons for the past couple of years I can say that addons do improve the game.  Think about it like this: If there was no need to improve, then there would be no improvement. Look at smart phones and how they utilize apps.  Its the same concept.

Blizzard probably would have implemented Recount by now but they knew that most people do not want to see themselves getting destroyed repeatedly on healing, tanking, or dps.  Leave it as an addon.  Let the raiders who know how to utilize it properly do the extra work to read and analyze its information (and the general DPS dick heads YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE!)

Also things like quest helper, target symbols, ability proc warnings, class color health bars - addons like that were so helpful to players who had them that Blizzard decided it was a good idea to implement them and they were right - players like these features.  You don't need to use them though.

I wholeheartedly agree that addons improve a game, not hinder it.  I will also have to politely disagree with loke666 and say that immersion is a state of mind and may be felt by players playing with addons and may never be felt by players playing without addons.

OP here.  Thanks for the feedback.  Just want to state again I did not make this video I just agree with all the points the author made.  As a PvP player, I was sorely disappointed in the PvP in SWTOR and I have noticed that many of the skilled PvPers from other games have given SWTOR a big thumbs down.

I have taken your guy's advice and I have canceled my SWTOR sub.

This I gotta see

The video maker made some points, and did so clearly. It was his opinion, which was stated many times. I don't find any fault in his opinion.

Yeah he compared it against wow, but guess what, that's what ea/bioware have been doing since they thought about making this game. Why can't the players use the same comparison?

I'd say he's 30% spot on, and 70% rhetoric that reverts back to his thinking that "perfection is Warcraft."  A Jedi consular is not an EZ-mode WOW paladin, and was never meant to be.  It was never worth 30 minutes of time to watch him whine about his consular not being his WOW paladin.

He played a Mercenary Bounty Hunter specced into heals.  Clearly you didn't watch the video so your opinion is now moot and void until you do.  FURTHERMORE, since you lied about watching the video, I am going to assume you are a liar and cannot be trusted in future conversations.

GOOD DAY SIR.

I watched the video two weeks ago when the original thread was posted.  This is not new.  Consular or WTFE... he whines because it's not his WOW paladin.  Your opinion is moot until you acknowledge that I obviously watched the video because I quoted it in this thread.

You cannot counter-moot my moot.  You will remain mooted.

He summed up everything he was going to say in the first few mins when he said "Perfection is Warcraft."  It's quite evident that he is a mega WOW fanboy from watching this.  Additionally, there was already a thread about it weeks ago.

He gives valid arguments on what WoW does better then SWTOR.  He played SWTOR wanting to like it and wanting to see it succeed.  Ignoring his valid arguments makes you a SWTOR fanboy.

I never ignored his arguments, but he needs to redo the video without talking about WOW.

Oh I'm sorry - I shouldn't compare SWTOR to WoW because SWTOR is a unique little snowflake that developed all of its ideas by itself.

oh the irony when comparing it to WoW lol

How is it ironic?  To clarify - the video showcases what is wrong with SWTOR.  In some of the points, the author points out how WoW does it better.

Please don't be confused: I'm not trying to say that WoW originated all the features we find in its game, i'm agreeing with the author on the problems with SWTOR and how WoW has a better system.  Please don't turn this into a "BUT EQ DID IT FIRST HERP DE DERP" argument.  I'm not going there.

i was laughing when you said "I shouldn't compare SWTOR to WoW because SWTOR is a unique little snowflake that developed all of its ideas by itself." i just thought it was humorous since wow doesnt have an original developed idea in all its coding (ok the art is a bit original)

I see.  Well to stir this back on course: We should compare SWTOR to WoW, and to EQ before it if they share a mechanic or feature in each game.  Nothing wrong with doing that to make a valid point about a failed system.

See you back when everything gets fixed?

IDK - I went through this exact same experience when Warhammer came out in 2008 - that is being extremely disappointed with lackluster mechanics.  I think i'm just going to stay clear of all MMOs that EA and Mythic touch.

Some of the big ones:

-Knockback galore.  Annoying in multiple level warzones.

-Abilities generally not "fun".  No cool abilities like blink, bubble, frost nova, sheep, totems, shadowstep, disengage, mind control, spirit link, bladestorm, army of the dead, ect.  There is a charge, a little sprint, and a pull ability, but thats it.

-Healing is just pressing same buttons over and over again.  No skill involved.  Defensive cooldown manangement amounts to little to nothing.

-Cast bar disappears randomly (linked to ability delay)

-Ability delay lowers the pace of combat.  Hinders pvp because global cooldown, cast animation, and cast bar are not in sync.  Contrary to what people think, Ability delay effects EVERYBODY.

-Camera snapping (smart camera permanently on).

-Nameplates not clickable.

-Raid frames are not always accurate.  (That raid frame showed a player at 100% but he was really at 25% and vice versa).

- Ilium being a massive zerg fest.  Dropping FPS to less then 10. (Experienced this in warzones as well).

- Overall low skill cap to separate good players from bad players.  Proper LOS'ing, fake casting, faking interrupts, cooldown management, ect all are thrown out the window.

- Login screen times extremely long.

This is not  my video.  I found it on youtube and I agreed with every point the author made.  The reasons he list are also the reasons why I quit.

Why I Quit SWTOR: The 30 Minute Saga... (Star Wars PvP & Gameplay)
