Ah, so if some random person makes a wiki article (and that is what happened, I know the person who made it) it must be true, but if the developer says it, its gotta be a lie... hmmm...so logical. /sarcasm

There were 5 men in a basement, with technology from 1999 working with limited resources and hours on Darkfall. They merge with a larger company, with more funds, more equipment, more experience, and move to a different country on opposite sides of Europe. Now you tell me if they wouldn't start over. There have been several different Darkfall builds, and you can physically see this with the screenshots, how they keep updating it. The girls at Women's Gamers who interviewed Aventurine came to the conclusion that the game wouldn't ever come out because the developers were absolutely obsessed with making the game perfect.

Sure, its not total fact, I admit it. But all you need to make the bunny hop to that conclussion is right there.

you a random person to me so why should i take your word over wiki...

your kinda shooting yourself in the foot there....so it started in 1999....thats even longer

So first you say because I'm a random person I have no credibility, and that I am the one shooting myself in the foot. THEN you go and take my word that the game started in 1999 and take it as fact to perpetuate your argument. My my aren't we full of contradictions.

The wiki was made and upkept by a member of the Darkfall forums with as much knowledge as there is on the subject. Concept for Darkfall started in 1999, development by 5 men in 2001 with projected release for 2003. In 2002 they moved to Greece and started development anew in 2003. They held clan beta applications in 2005, but the beta process was frozen and a new build of the game was created. Now, as of 2008 the game is to be released, most likely in Europe first. At worst, I deem open beta will start in 2008 and release will be spring 09.  This, is fact.

Clan Wars, Bounty Hunter, F.O.G.  All ways that Jagex tried to desperately replace the wilderness; all updates failed.

With the next open PVP update coming up, will they be disappointed again?  Will Jagex let their community down again?  Or can Jaqgex actually make a decent update?

As for me, I don't know what to think.  We need more details about how it works, more details about the loot and death penalties.  Moree details about how many of these worlds will be open PVP.  Until then, I'm not sure what to think.

P.S.  When more info about the PVP is released, please post it here. Thanks.

-Mike

Then like I told the other guy, you go find out what you have to do and do it.

Why aren't you people taking these cushy jobs?  Why are you letting them get away?  There is a shortage right now man.  Go get it while it's hot.  All summer off.

Get on it, Mike.  You could be a teacher with those super great benefits!!!!

Oh, and btw, 45k is average salary, not beginning salary.  You get that average salary after about 15 years of teaching.

A little grumpy, aren't we?  Mabye I hit a nerve.

I wasn't diminishing teachers in anyway, they're great people. I dunno, mabye they should get a little higher pay, making 30k beginning year is low - I thought they made more.  They should be making more than that (15k more?).

I spoke to a beginning teacher, he said he made 42k his first year.  Mabye I misunderstood, mabye my memory is rocky.  I'm not sure, but beginning at 40k is good for working 9 months a year with most holidays off.

Also, I don't want to become a teacher, not what I want to do with my life.  WTF is your problem?

 -Mike

Mike,

40k a year is excellent for a starting position with no experience.

I doubt that is the case unless you have some decent education or live in a large city or an area desperate for teachers. Do you have a Masters in Education?

Also, look into DoDDs.

www.eu.dodea.edu/home/

Hey Torak.

Like I said, I was just speaking to a new teacher abnout it (just got married to my cousin, to be exact).  Anyway, I didn't really ask him about his degree, jobs just came up and I recall him saying he had an option to make 42k a year starting out.  Also, my memory isn't very good, I could have remembered wrong (which seems to be the case).

I believe 30k for a beginning teacher is low though.  Just my opinion though.

But the people that have been to the studio and played it have confirmed that it does exactly what the developers say it does. They now have an official, and well established/known European publisher, and have announced a release date of 2008, possibly starting in Europe first.

It's amazing how they're no reporters who are allowed to play the game, but random fans that by the office can.

They haven't proven anything yet; and that is the problem.  They make high claims about this and that, but have failed to prove any of it.  Things like seiges, city buiolding, etc., have never been seen, they are just words.

Adventurine hasn't, and probably can't, prove any of their claims.

-Mike

First off, the company is AVENTURINE, credibility already took a shot. And the last person that was at the studio actually had to LEAVE because real reporters were coming in. Also, a video was taken of the Darkfall presentation at the Greek gaming convention and put on youtube by the person there. That same person has also confirmed that his magazine is to have exclusive Darkfall interviews in the coming months. You like to bash it, but in reality you have no idea what you're talking about.

No, I'm being realistic.  They still haven't proven any of their claims, which no other developer has been able to do.  If they hadn't been lying and have had a long development cycle like this for seven years, it wouldn't be a problem.

They have put on so much false hope to all of their fans, release, beta, etc...until they actually do it, I'm in doubt.

There's nothing else around the horizon that is going to be good.  I think that people who suggest Aion will be good... have not played any of the free mmo's available out there.

Myself? Well, after I beat Spore\get tired of it... I have no idea.  Anime is only a small part of my life, even though I sometimes watch 9-16 series per season (subbed anime, not adult swim BS)

WTF!~  All you can do (if you don't have a game CURRENTLY and do not want to play warhammer) is wait for something else to arrive.... Months and months of waiting.  Only to be possibly let down even more.

Tell me your thoughts!

Hello,

I think Aion looks great.  As I look into it more, it seems to sound better and better.  I recommend you read up on it more, you might be surprised.

Anyway, if you're interested in shooters you could look at APB or Huxley.  I'm personally looking forward to APB, it seems like a great shooter for when I don't feel like playign actual MMORPGS (even though APB is an MMO).

As for other MMOs, we have Aion, the two MMO shooters above, Ovidion, TCoS, Stargate Worlds, LOTRO expansion, WOW expansion, and a couple other games this year only.

Read up, look around, I think you'll be pleased.

Hello Pellagren,

Thanks for the compliment.

As for the article, it was just about one [key] part about CoS.  There will be more articles (I'm not sure when, but there will be).  I thinkt he topic I covered is a fairly large part about CoS; the quests are unliek any other game out there.  People know about the interesting quests, but in this article I was giving more detail into how they worked.

Thanks for the idea on the skill system, I'll make sure to remember that for the next article.  I'll probably mix that with another topic - since there aren't enough details on the skill system (yet) to write 1,000 words.  They'll be more articles in the future about different parts of CoS; this was just the first.

Hi everyone.  I have the title CoS Correspondent since I wrote an article for CoS and submitted it to the site.  It was just recently published.  While here, I would just like to clarify some things:

1.  I do not work for MMO Magic.

2.  I do not work at MMORPG.com, I am just a voulanteer

3.  I am not getting paid by MMORPG.com or MMO Magic for writing my articles

4.  I'm just a fan writing articles for my favorite game.

That's all.  You can read my first article here

*has some freetime during vacation to post*

I don't mind grinding if I'm enjoying myself.  I love PvP, so if the game is a huge grind, then I would hope that PVP will be spread out.  Fighting other players for PVE areas. that kind of stuff I would love seeing in AION.

I don't want it to be as hardcore as L2 (before the update).  Somewhere inbetween the L2 and WoW grind would be perfect.  Not too simple but not too hardcore.  I wouldn't mind AION being a grind, as long as there wil eb good PVP and PVE throughout the game.

I also wouldn't believe NCSoft is going to make the harsh grind in their games anymore.  I think a key point of the update they made in L2 is that they are done havign rediculous grinds.

But, you never know.  I'm just hoping it's not as simple as WoW.

Nothing against Mike - I know he's eagerly anticipating CoS and thus makes a fine choice - but everything there is to go on is either posted on the website or by a developer here.  Until the game goes into some sort of non-NDA test phase there's little a correspondent can do except basically parrot back hype and marketing propaganda.

While I would agree with appointing a correspondent for an unreleased game like WAR (which is going to release for certain) or Aion (which has had extensive testing - just not in NA), CoS is so far from release that any information released now can only be taken with a monsterous grain of salt.

CoS could be the next Gods and Heroes for all we know, or have a similar release schedule as Darkfall.  It just seems too early for a correspondent to be part of it .

Hi Jakin,

I disagree.  I'm just spreading the information about CoS.  Just because a game is in early development doesn't mean it doesn't deserve time to be looked at.  I'm just spreading the current information about the game that others might not know.  Due to the fact it is in early devolopment many people probably know very little about it (and taht's normal).  There hasn't been a news report about it since March.

For games lie AION, it is the same thing.  Players in the US/EU haven't played it, they're just writing what the developers tell them; which is exactly what I'm doing.

P.S.  I might not have the time to reply; I'm on vacation :P

I've never really understood a lot of these complaints.

I've always found they were pretty straight forward.

It requires a long time to get to level 99 in most skills. OK, fair enough. But there's no reason you have to grind all the way to 99 in any skill. You really only need about 1/4 of the XP required to get 99 (about level 85) to be able to do almost everything in Runescape.

The problem isn't how long the skillls take to level - I don't really mind that.  The real problem is the way the skills were designed.  They're so repetitive, boring, and uninteresting; there's no skill or technique involved (unless you call button mashing a skill).

Plus, Runescape has been around for 6 years, and will be around I'm sure for 6 more. You have years to get 99. What's the rush?

Again, there's no rush.  Read above.

I'm guessing you want it all right now.

AGAIN, read above.

There are definitely a lot of less-than-mature players. Ignore them. You have an ignore list. I don't know how I manage to play and avoid all these people you seem to encounter.

1)  I find it hard to believe how you don't encounter them.  It's almost impossible NOT to.  Take a trip to Lumbridge and read the general chat for 15 minutes; you'll see what we alla rgue about.

2)  The fact that players have to use their ignore list (or turn off their public chat) so often just proves our point.  In no game should one be forced to ignore the community they play with.

I've never, ever had to make use of Customer Support in the 3 years I've played. Then again, I've never been banned or muted for breaking the rules. Nor have I felt the need to complain "when's the Wildy coming back".

Apparently you haven't experienced the enjoyment of the wilderness.  If you had, you would be complaining.

Also, it's not only the wilderness.  It's the trade updates, the poor updates going on (they're STILL trying to fix things), the community, Jagex possibly lying on their number counter, aiming for a lower audience, the poor skills, the list just goes on.

I'm just curious why it seems so many of you just hang around here and grieve that Runescape isn't everything you want in a MMORPG.

I'm surprised that RS fits your needs for an MMORPG.  How low are your standards?

Find one that is what you want. Move on, and be positive. Dwelling in this negativity can't be good for your karma.

I suppose you could call it dwelling.

I don't really get the comment about the karma...I've moved on.  I'm waiting for other great games on the horizon, and I've played some other ones.

If my karma was good, all this arguing would bring a Jagex dev to defend themselves on this forum.  I would have a field day with that :)

IMO, that's the same thing as saying,  I'm just not interested in playing MMORPGs right now.

The only game mentioned besides WAR that looks interesting to me,  and is actually releasing sometime in the relatively near future, is Champions Online.

Still the poll was incomeplete (which is why you get so many "others" votes in your poll.

I recommend you look into some of the games more, some of them sound great.
