I've always found they were pretty straight forward.

It requires a long time to get to level 99 in most skills. OK, fair enough. But there's no reason you have to grind all the way to 99 in any skill. You really only need about 1/4 of the XP required to get 99 (about level 85) to be able to do almost everything in Runescape.

The problem isn't how long the skillls take to level - I don't really mind that.  The real problem is the way the skills were designed.  They're so repetitive, boring, and uninteresting; there's no skill or technique involved (unless you call button mashing a skill).

Plus, Runescape has been around for 6 years, and will be around I'm sure for 6 more. You have years to get 99. What's the rush?

Again, there's no rush.  Read above.

I'm guessing you want it all right now.

AGAIN, read above.

There are definitely a lot of less-than-mature players. Ignore them. You have an ignore list. I don't know how I manage to play and avoid all these people you seem to encounter.

1)  I find it hard to believe how you don't encounter them.  It's almost impossible NOT to.  Take a trip to Lumbridge and read the general chat for 15 minutes; you'll see what we alla rgue about.

2)  The fact that players have to use their ignore list (or turn off their public chat) so often just proves our point.  In no game should one be forced to ignore the community they play with.

I've never, ever had to make use of Customer Support in the 3 years I've played. Then again, I've never been banned or muted for breaking the rules. Nor have I felt the need to complain "when's the Wildy coming back".

Apparently you haven't experienced the enjoyment of the wilderness.  If you had, you would be complaining.

Also, it's not only the wilderness.  It's the trade updates, the poor updates going on (they're STILL trying to fix things), the community, Jagex possibly lying on their number counter, aiming for a lower audience, the poor skills, the list just goes on.

I'm just curious why it seems so many of you just hang around here and grieve that Runescape isn't everything you want in a MMORPG.

I'm surprised that RS fits your needs for an MMORPG.  How low are your standards?

Find one that is what you want. Move on, and be positive. Dwelling in this negativity can't be good for your karma.

I suppose you could call it dwelling.

I don't really get the comment about the karma...I've moved on.  I'm waiting for other great games on the horizon, and I've played some other ones.

If my karma was good, all this arguing would bring a Jagex dev to defend themselves on this forum.  I would have a field day with that :)

IMO, that's the same thing as saying,  I'm just not interested in playing MMORPGs right now.

The only game mentioned besides WAR that looks interesting to me,  and is actually releasing sometime in the relatively near future, is Champions Online.

Still the poll was incomeplete (which is why you get so many "others" votes in your poll.

I recommend you look into some of the games more, some of them sound great.

Hey everyone.

I was looking into WAR, but I am sort of let down that there is no death penalty.  So, since that kind of turns me away from WAR (I' might still get it), so I am curious about AION.  Just a couple questions that come to mind, if someone could please answer them that would be great:

a)  How is the PvP?  Is it open, or just partial, or none at all?  Could someone explain how it works?

b)  Is there a death penalty?  Is it harsh, or not that bad?

Thanks for the help!

P.S.  Sorry if this has been discussed before.

Also it is a very unprofessional looking site, which means if I were going to pay for it, and I had a problem I don't feel confident that I would be able to get it resolved.

Do you work for the producers of wurm or are you just a fan?

Just a fan.  I play casually, I just love their original design.

Also, how can you not get the free stuff to work?  It's extremely simple.....

AS for the site; it's an indy game.  You better get used to it, indy devs are the onyl one who will make the games with the features you said.

I think most of the "something else" vote is unrealistic. It's easy to vote for the perfect MMORPG, and it's perfect because it doesn't exist. That would be the votes for something else like  "Darkfall" which is all hype and no explanation of game mechanics at all, or a KOTOR MMO, when no one knows what it will be like.

It's easy to take a blank slate, and imagine it will be the perfect game for you, with all the features you like.

You really think it's unrealisticfor someone to want to play another MMO besides WoW and WAR?

Considering you forgot (if we're talking about this year)

APB

AION

TCoS

Jumpgate Evolution

Stargat Worlds

More than 4 people playing at a time (I would like it to be a game that other people are playing, or there is really no point.)

Wurm Online is exactly what yu are looking for.

I have standards, and those standards aren't too high.

I'm never going to understand.

Wurm Online is exactly what you are looking for, and it is also a player driven community where every item is crafted.  But you don't play it because it's Java based with poor graphics?  You sit here and complain there aren't enough of them, and when you have one right in front of your face you turn it down because of the way it looks?

Rediculous.  I guess you're just begging for some instanced grinding, huh?

Guys, let it go. This game is never going to happen. Is everyone still truly surprised when stuff like this happens with Darkfall? People's loyalty to something that doesn't exist blows my mind. Find something else to play!

Cheers

prove it

Prove to me DF is real.  Crappy screens and vids don't mean anything, I need proof.  Random fans who act fishy when they write their articles about how they visited Adventurine doesn't count.  Still, technically, no publisher, still no video, and not even a beta date.

Until they do something, I am still inclined to believe DF is vaporware.

Hmm well I can't imagine starting a new account now. I think the only reason I liked the game so much is because I started playing it when I was 15 lol. If I were to start playing again with a new account I know it's going to be boring. Luckily, I still have my old account which is permanently muted, but I guess I'll give the new pvp a try on f2p. I'm not paying $6.00 a month for runescape. So I am willing to see how the pvp updates will turn out.

However, like I said already, I don't think these updates will solve anything. At least not until Jagex fixes what is already wrong with the game. I seriously think Jagex will find a way to mess up this update too. They messed up a lot of what we thought might have been good updates. Summoning and the Grand Exchange are two examples. So, this pvp update will most likely not be enough to get me playing again on a regular basis, but I am willing to check it out.

Oh and in case you were wondering what I got muted for. It wasn't for scamming or swearing or anything bad. I got muted for simply trying to buy an item. Apprently I was spamming when I typed in "How much agility potions????????" over and over again.

Yeah, I will never pay for RS again, it's not worth the boredom.  I would much rather put my money into a good MMO, where I know they won't screw over their players, and they actually look at their appeals.  I refuse to pay money to a company like JaGeX.

At best, I will be casual (I can't stay logged on in that game for logn than an hour) and just play the free to play version, but only once the PVP update releases.

As for the updates, you're right.  Like I said in my original post, RuneScape is still RuneScape, and the only ones who can change that is JaGeX (and they clearly won't).  It still has all the bad features that it had when we all quit, except now there will be PVP.  I actually believe the community has gotten worse ever since I quit; it truly is a horrible community.

It doesn't matter how young they are, it's how they act.  They act like a bunch of 10 year old kids, and it is obvious some of them are.

RS is filled with young AND immature people, it doesn't matter which, since the community is horrible.

I enjoy Shamans, they looked really nice in the vids.

Shamans seem like the perfect mix of healing and damage dealing.  From what it seems they play really nicely in WAR.

So, if I get this straight, you get both exp and renown points?  Sounds very interesting!

Thanks for the help everyone.

Hey everyone.

I've been looking into WAR, and I've been arguing with myself wether or not to buy it.  One thing I don't understand is how players can level with both PVP and PvE...how does this work?  It's been said that a player can PVP all levels?

IS it the same exp from PVP that you gain in PVE?  If someone could please explain this taht would be great.

Thanks

Thanks Sgt!

No, and I'm not saying they couldn't have done better...because they obviously could have, but it's not that bad. I wish they'd make the animalistic races more...animalistic. But I still don't think it's that bad. Maybe it's because i just don't have a problem with the way the character models currently are, i think they're just fine and pretty nice looking as is, and isn't a game-breaking disaster. And i think the Dark Elves actually do look a bit more expressive than the current ones.

You're looking at the graphics, I am looking past that.  I am looking at the future of Vanguard while in SOE's hands, and it doesn't lok good.  With this update, it just seems more clear that SOE will not give Vanguard the attention it rightfully deserves.  Vanguard has so much potential, but SOE just won't give it the attention it deserves, and this update just proves my point.

I'm confused ...the models don't  meet everyones expectations.Soooo....do you play a game based on what your character looks  like ?

Vanguard is a good game, but still, you're missing the update.  When people heard about the character model revamp (which were, and still, are ugly) they expected a "ressurection" of Vanguard.  They were beginning to think that SOE cared enough to put time into Vanguard and make it a success.

This update was a dream crusher (for myself and probably others).  It is just clear that SOE doesn't care anymore.  If these character models were good looking, it would show to me (and others) that SOE is willing to put more time and money into the future of Vangaurd.

Apparently they won't.  Until SOE proves otherwise, they will not be seeing my $15.

This is why I quit.

It is obvious that SOE just doesn't care enough about Vanguard to give it the attenmtion it so desperately needs.  Vanguard has so much potential, unfortunately SOE fails to realize that.

I can easily say that if SoE gave VG the attention it deserves, VG would become a much more popular (and better) game.  But until then, Vanguard will never truly be a great game.

So after I heard the news of the new PVP update, I got excited.  I looked forward to the old days, where my friends and I would PK whenever we had to oppurtunity.  I looked forward to being in huge wars, getting good loot, and all the other things that go with having a world of open PVP.

I decided to make a new account and start all over.  The reason I am beginning to play now is because I wanted to make money so I won't be poor once the PVP update rolls around.  So I make an account and begin the tutorial (which is much, much worse than the original tutorial IMHO).

Let's fastforward to after the tutorial, shall we?  Once they finally take me out of the instanced tutorial and to the land of RuneScape. I begin my adventure.  As I first spawn in Lumbridge, the community attacks, and attacks fast.  Immediately I hear discussions about how some eight year old has a girlfriend, and about all the current break-ups between these little kiddies..ahh yes, the good ol'd RS community.

After hearing about ten minutes of the rediculous crap that floods the public chat, I grab my bronze axe and walk over to some trees.  Since my main goal was to make money, I didn't decide to train combat until later on.  After cutting trees for 15 minutes, I couldn't take it.  I don't think I've ever had such boredom in an MMORPG before....the repetitiveness and simplicity of the skills just shows that this game was designed for the same kiddies talking about the current break-ups in Lumbridge.

That's when I realized:  The game was still the same, it [will] just have PVP.  RuneScape still has the same horrible community, RS still has the boring skills, RS still has the boring combat, RS still has the trade updates, RuneScape is still RuneScape.  I logged out, and I will not log on again until that PVP rolls around later this year.

With games like WAR, TCoS, AION, and APB on the horizon, why would I waste time on RuneScape?  I want a game that actually keeps me interested , and that is targeted towards an older audience, that actually takes some kind of skill and brain power.

I tried coming back to the game I once loved, but it is pointless.  RuneScape is still RuneScape.
