I just can't wait.  I'm 110% stoked for this release.

I'm traditionaly a Bartle EAKS player and still, I'm more than willing to mess with those test results, to get into PvP action in AoC.  Though, the overall game will be more than enough of a interest and fit well with my normal play style, all on it's own.

Awe inspiring...   Thanks for the link(s) to that press insider.

...Gaute's reference to the player feed back - "Nah, Gaute you idiot.  I want to see my head pop off and have my enemy gloat over my corpse."   <---lol perfect, an instant classic.

I pre-ordered from Gamespot, in NA.  It's just my usual game store since EB Games and it's close at hand.

So, I picked the Mammoth, eventhough, the Rhino looks like something I would've prefered.

At any rate, I'm still picking up a horse, too.  I'll try and get all the other lower stat mounts, after launch, for a single toon.

No idea, if I can do this but it would be nice to have the full compliment of mounts, at my disposal.  Plus, the one high stat pre-order mount for the sieges.

Yep, that part is real Shannia.  I read somewhere that it's great for the earlier levels but, eventually, you'd be able to find equal or better, to it.

I'd rather wait another year to play Darkfall than wait 1 day to play a nerfed AoC that clearly isn't ready for launch.  The longer that NDA stays up the more it shows how badly this game is progressing.

You would think for a simple, linear, non-innovative game like AoC (which I was really excited about playing until recently) that the kinks might be worked out by now...  but nope.

Well AoC has NDA, but its already being tested out by thousands.  Unless you have the weird idea that all the thousand testers are fake, you should have no doubts that AoC exist.

You seem to have issues with an NDA, but you are comformtable with DF which has absolutely nothing but a list of promised features.  Is that odd?   You think AoC is hiding something b/c it imposed an NDA (while showing the entire game to thousands of players).  On the other hand, you think that DF is very cool and top notched hiding behind a smoke screen of words, and denying everybody on earth from looking at its products, b/c of what?  Hmm I do not know.

You criticise AoC as simple, linear, non-innovative, as compared to what?  Comparing an actual product like AoC to a virtual list of wishes like DF?  Hmm is that fair?

Not that I have any idea what DF is all about, or what it will be eventually (come on, who on earth knows?), but its unfair to use DF as a yardstick to measure anything.  Simply put, we know nothing about DF as a product.  Nothing.  A list of wishingful thinking, with no solid information on how the list is implemented, cannot pass as a final product.

 > Orthedos - That was very well put I couldn't have said that better myself.

It's tiring, to constantly go over and over the philosophical, Nietzsche'ian 'Real vs. Ideal' debate.

Media Player just needs the DivX codecs.

Just download the newest DivX player installer and during the install options, uncheck everything but the codecs.  You don't need to install the player or the other backweb toolbar junk, etc...

 Anyhow, enjoy!

Personally I'd want a company who's willing to take the risk of making a much deeper, richer game.  Funcom/Bethesda/Whoever if not BioWare [BioWare is the perfect and most likely of course anyway].

If a SW:O is to be developed, I'd prefer it to be in the hands of Bioware, as they're the only ones who have been able to create a great SP RPG about SW, so far.

I want the game to be a true MMORPG and not a MMOG.  So, I pick the company that's proven they can deliver on this, over the other potentials.  Bioware's actual experience and success with SW lore far exceeds other dev. companies attempts, or the vague intentions of the other industry leaders with this Ip.

I picked less than 6hrs for a full rotation.  My ideal split would be 3hrs day and 2hrs night for a 5 hour ingame day.  I'd also like to see a ingame sundial option up near the radar/map.

  I voted for 'Troopers'.

I like the Firefly idea, but the all out action of fighting for Earth's survival against the alien bug invasion would be a fun MMOG.

EDIT--  Gah,.. Now you went and changed the poll.

Well the popularity of BSG is through the roof and Star Wars is the bread to Star Treks butter, in sci-fi, but I think fighting for the human race would be a blast.

I'd pick BSG but there's only one Battlestar and I'd hate to be the laundry dude in a MMO. lol   So, since I'm looking for something different, it's between Space Above and Beyond and Starship Troopers.

I'm sticking with 'Troopers' it's a good base for Massive battles in a MMOG.  Did I mention the overwhelming odds against us, laser guns and orbital bombardment? ..Nukem Rico!

P.S.-  In sci-fi/fantasy, I like the sci-fi better.  So, really anything would be fun.

I think Alien(s) should stay an SP game, unless, there's the Alien vs. Predator twist with us lowbie humans stuck in the middle.

Chronicles of Riddick would be a great sandbox if Riddick was an NPC, like Conan is in AoC, and it would be a real MMORPG.

Dune could be done well with the 3 factions, as well, and yeah B5 would just rock as a MMO.

So, I'd stay with Startship Troopers from the list, and I follow on with the assumption that a new Star Wars and the first Star Trek MMO's will be released, eventually.  But, a Riddick or B5 sandbox would be my ultimate choices.

There's a thread in here(titled- What Could This be?) that links a page that says 'Registration May 2nd'.

Earlier predictions based on a Funcom interview vid., that showed a whiteboard with May 1st as the OB date, through IGN.

So, it seems we'll see some type of OB around the first week of May but I wonder if we have to pay 5$ for the download, like we do for pre-order 3day early launch clients.

Xris,

I know it's the last thing we need, but rumor has it that the NDA will be lifted and access to the official beta forums will be granted for all. .../shrug

Now about that May 2nd registration page.  Hmm, seems like an OB to me.  .../crossfingers

P.S.- Michiel is correct.  The link is back up.

As a self proclaimed Browncoat, I'd want to see this MMO become a success.  The hitch, as others have pointed out, is that movie and TV based Ip's seem to fall short of gamers expectations.

The reasons for this, seems to be, that the big/small screen Ip franchise initialy brings in the gamers but the lack of a 'true to lore' storyline and/or intuititve game mechanics shows them the exits.  This leads to the Ip based  MMO's decline, in client numbers.  Gamers want to experience the Ip's lore and have fun doing it, not have fun in a game loosely based on their favorite Ip's.

The line in the article; ...producing a “good Firefly game” as opposed to a “good game about Firefly”, is exactly the issue when it comes to consumer loyalty in franchise based games.  It's fine to expect your chance at meeting a few of the Ip's stars, in game, and get your toons screenie oportunity with them.  But, when faced with sketchy game mechanics or complete breaks in a franchise's established lore, your core  clients lose interest, in the MMO.

In SWG, the game mechanics worked and the franchise was well established but the breaks in the lore were overwhelming.  Although, you could see how the Reb. and Imp. players may infrequently need to do business with one another but this was never meant to be constantly or without serious consequences.

The fact that they, as players who have chosen sides between warring factions, could live together in the same player cities, was a break in immersion and established lore.  Same can be said about Jedi and prospective jedi everywhere you turned.

The reason that SP games, based on major Ip's, tend to be better received when compared to MMO's is the immersion factor.  ie- Your playing Spiderman in the spidy game.

In an MMO, there's a real need to stay within the lore's boundaries, more often than not, all the way through.  In this, the upcomming AoC MMO, has a real opportunity to do just that, as it's a straight forward lore.  Conan is the man and as a player when your in doubt, you stab it to death.  Keep it dark, sensual and brutal and your Ip will keep it's core player-base.

As for Firefly's proposed ground/space mechanics, it seems like a winning combo., but I feel that it will end up competing with STO and/or a new SW:O, directly, as I can see them using the exact same formula.

Again, a 'true to lore', current graphically styled game, that's setup to run smoothly for it's client side, ingame, mechanics is not only the key to success, it's nothing more than the 'foundation' of tomorrow's MMO's.

I'd still welcome the Ip's release but I feel that it's facing serious sci-fi competition, in the near future, and that the formula, if handled improperly,  would be called out as nothing more than a type of a re-skin clone MMO.

I want more movie and TV based MMO's but I want them to be the best game that they can be.  If the 'foundation' isn't, always, a main focus or it's ingnored completely, in a new MMO, than forget making it and save the venture capital for ground breaking, yet, unknown lore type games.  Let them be the high risk testing bed for future MMO's and leave the established Ip's fan-base intact.

In short, do it right or don't bother.  Take stock of the 'foundation' and limit your overall risk and don't release a title during a saturated market, unless you can deliver something extraordinary to the consumer.  Other than this, goodluck and see you at launch.

Deth',

The DX10 for Xp is off the 'Games for Windows' site.  It may be easier to just google DX10 download instead.

Shannia,

I actually didn't think that you were.  I was just trying to clarify my intent, with that previous post.  Fearing they'd be taken out of context and/or order later, as it seems to happen often with other peoples.

No matter what you heard, the second team is only dealing with the pc coding transfer to 360 and the required code base optimization.  The only differences between the two releases are graphic quality and code optimization for the respective platforms.

The delay in the 360 release is so the pc version can iron out most issues before they let the 360 version go gold.  This is so it makes smaller patches for the 360 in the short term before game expansions.

Your right they're not going to play on the same servers at the same time but it's not because they're 2 different games.

Are you special?

I agree about Brad McAlmightyHeavenlyFather, Shannia, and  your point was just what I tried to say in my original post.

It didn't seem that personal to me at first, until it became so.  Anyhow, he's confident in his opinion and gets respect for it but I'm also equally confident in mine and nothing excuses a direct personal attack.  You just need to respond in kind and grin back.

@ RayXor

...I think I'll listen to Funcom and not some nobody on a game forum...

The feeling is mutual, and since there still after 360 programmers, it'll be based off the pc versions work but I do agree there's big difference between re-design and re-coding.

Terrenah,  couldn't agree with you more.

The more diverse the platform release the better it is for the industry and the MMO community.

I only hope we can have our own servers based on platform for all future titles.   So that we can go back to complaining amongst our respective preference groups, instead of uselessly trying to use the divide and conquer strategy, to gain favor within the gaming industry.  That's helping no-one that actually likes games.

Avery, the expac info is recent news.  Thx

Alan, I understand and appreciate your concerns but I just don't share them.

Starting off with single player aspects to the game that moves on to a traditional multi-player MMO gameplay, which caters to solo'ers, pve'ers and pvp'ers throughout, from then on.  Yeah, it's a MMO, in every sense.

-You choose to solo the whole way to lvl cap, fine, but your missing out on a lot.

-You choose to pve, strictly, you miss out on the pvp aspects but raiding is still there and it's a serious focus, in the game.

-You choose to go all out and pvp/pvp siege it'll be there for you.  But pvp sieges aren't a matter of loggin and deciding your ready.  You'll need a guild, highend crafters, pve city, time and resources to make that happen.

You could always merc' yourself out but it'll be when others need you and on their schedule.

So, if your thinking that pvp battlekeep sieges are happening within the first 1.5-2.5months, you best be in a guild of, atleast, 50+ dedicated members.  But, even then there will be standard pvp instances, and the tower sieges, in the siege grounds.

If your worried about CB tester's opinions, just remember there's nothing saying a development team has to show off everything about a game before it's launch; or that CB testers always get to test everything out, first, before a launch.

It would be nice but all development companies rely on the Alpha testers a bit more than a casual beta tester.

Seing how, in a CB, 35-40% of the testers are really carrying 80%+ of the load, in doing what's intended for a beta tester to accomplish.  While the rest are just there for an early look at the game.

Oh! maybe that has something to do with these invisible walls, afterall.  Funnel them where there needed, not where they like to be.  ../shrug

Yeah, they'll offer mounts in a game so you can just sit there stuck in your mime box. ...lol! Right.

It's fine, I understand you want perfection, to bad that doesn't exist anywhere in life.
