Great, more Pay to win MMOs. There is no hope for this genre.

Diablo3 will be region locked and all Chinese farmers will stay within their region. That's where Blizzard will make a ton of money.

I think it will  take atleast a year before a legit bot will be available on NA servers, and problaby a few more years before it is available for sale.

I think hacker/botters will keep their programs close because now they can make a ton of money directly through the game.

Also, Diablo2 was plagued by BUGS. The biggest problem D2 had was duping. Bots didn't supply shit to d2 economy because most botters never found any runes, and if they did, it was mostly UM runes or IST runes. And it took thousands and thousands of runs for any good runes to drop. Most items that were cherished in d2 were the super rare, eth Berzerker %15 ED damage axes which almost never dropped. Also, super rare helms for Hammerdins, sorces, zons, sins, druids. And most of those were duped once they were found.

It took 3 GUL runes and a cube to make an ist and 3 more IST for the next. That's how most folk would get to higher runes, and runewords.

DUPERS ruined diablo2, not the botters.

It also didn't help when Blizzard would roll out a patch every 2 years.

It didn't help that people would scam one another.

It didn't help that people would use hacks in pvp and pretty much ruin the pvp aspect.

I'm a fan of the AH, but not a fan of the real money exchange. They could have left that out and made gold worth something.

I don't mind the internet access requirement, since I only played d2 online. I don't like the idea though that other folk who do enjoy single player and mod support being prohibited.

All my sega, nintendo systems, ps1, ps2, original xbox games, and less than a handful of ps3 and xbox 360 games.

Diablo 1 and D2+Expansion, eq1, and a shitload of other pc games.

BUT the one game that truly is the one game I love the most. . . . CONKER: Live and Reloaded for the Original Xbox.

The recent "NGE" (because that IS what it was) completely stripped down the game and made it worse than boring.

RIP another awesome game in an effort to attract the low-brow.

This game looks like just a Mech warrior game using a bit of RFO flavour,problem is RFO failed and it had playable players as well as the mech class.This game also uses 3 corps ,EXACTLY what RFO used.

Biggest flaw,that is also my biggest pet peeve..........offline advancement,i cannot stand that cheap design one bit.The ONLY reason they are doing it ,is to copy Eve because they beleive there are enough whiners out there to bribe with the free handout.You know what,if i play a game,i want to actually PLAY the WHOLE game,i don't want it to start handing me things i don't deserve.I believe they are also afraid of scaring away customers that die a lot and can't compete in PVP,if they die and gain no XP,they will quit,hence bribing.

Alot of us did spam and did not get  one due to server over loading and such , which is fine to lose to that, but the bots i,m sure played a role in that since they spamming  your forum every 1-2 seconds.

I've elaborated above on the measures we've taken to make sure keys aren't claimed by bots. People will sell beta keys no matter what site gives them away or how they do it, whether its a drawing, first come first serve, anything. Only one key is claimable by a single account, and we have measures in place to deal with multiple accounts on the same IP address, etc.

I am not going to discuss all the specifics of what we do to make sure things are fair, but I can assure you that we are doing whatever we possibly can. Users selling our keys are beyond our control (unless they try selling them on our forums!).

Users who abuse our system in order to request a key will not be flagged to receive one, and their key will be reserved for the next user above the cutoff. This user will then be notified that they ended up qualifying for a key.

 There are measures to alleviate that though. USE JOIN DATE AS A MEASURE. Why is this so hard to understand. If someone just created in the last few days too bad. I know they ll say they read etc and never joined, but it s a measure to insure people will participate in the forums instead of just creating when it s convenient. It s a simple solution that should have been done in the first place.

We are not going to punish new users for signing up to our site, even if it is to get a key. We value all of our users, new and old. We do have sweepstakes that reward consistently active users by granting them additional entries into a drawing (increasing their chances, though not guaranteeing anything based on activity), and we'll definitely look into doing something like that if we can, but no promises.

Simply saying, "Hey, we have 100 keys but if you signed up today you can't have one!" just isn't going to happen, and in all my years as a reader I cannot say I've ever seen a site do this. If it has happened, it's certainly the exception, not the rule.

The keys were not given out to "insure users participate on our forums". They were given to us because a developer or publisher knows they can reach MMO gamers best through our site and sites like ours; having users stick around after they sign up to grab a key is a bonus. There is more to MMORPG.com than our forums, and there are many readers who have been reading here for years and years that simply never bothered to sign up, and they are no less valuable to us. We cannot discern between the two, it would be unfair to try, and we are simply not going to do it.

With that said, we do have contest types that do reward regular users as I outlined above, and this was simply not structured that way. This was structured along the lines of many of our typical first come, first serve giveaways.

No, instead, you just punish your loyal members who have jobs, plans during set time, slow connections, etc. Let me ask you this Mike, how many of these "new" users do you honestly think will be back? I bet it's far fewer than you think!

Besides membership should have its privileges. It's a friggin famous slogan for god's sake. As even some of the so-called "lurkers" have stated (and is quite obvious from their recent posts), they read the forums. How would those forums even exist if everyone just lurked and there were no members posting. At the very least, MMORPG should have offered some keys to its members. How hard would that have been? Huh?

With all do repect, I am so disappointed in this site and as I've stated in another post, if you guys don't do something to make this right, this loyal member is not for long here. I've been a loyal, just about daily visitor to this site that's contributed more to this site than can be said of your "lurker", no matter how you try to sugar-coat it.

Finally, so that we are clear, it's not the RIFT beta-key that has me peeved, but the principle of the whole thing. Your members should come first and if they don't then what is the incentive for these aforementioned new users of yours in bothering to stick around after these keys are gone? Why should I even bother sticking around? Let me guess, that one never crossed anyone's mind.

This type of contest is so counter-productive, it boggles my mind. How could camping a website, rapid-firing F5 promote any kind of positive behavior? What happened to inviting worthy beta testers that have been loyal followers of the game since day 1? Aside from the absolutely ridiculous certainty that bots would snag lots of these keys, am I supposed be an unemployed slacker so I can sit home all day hitting F5? Or even better, am I supposed to waste company time and sit in my office slamming F5?

Having people stalk Twitter, Facebook and MMO sites all day is disturbing and downright wicked. Is this the new way of doing things? Is this what we are teaching the new generation, to sit home like mindless drones, refreshing pages? Why not give these VIP keys to the hundreds of loyal followers on the Rift site? Why not come up with productive contests that promotes positive behavior and gives people with jobs and other responsibilities a chance to win?

This isn't about some beta that nobody will care about in a few months, this is about pushing the MMOG community in a forward direction, not 2 steps backwards.

This is going to be the MMORPG golden era. The population playing is a high % of internet users around the globe. There's a lot of good games with 250,000+ player populations (sure they're not all 16 million, but there are only so many economies that can support them). There's a variety of everything out there now. On how you pay on how you see the screen to play on how you talk to others and communicate. Sure there's a lot of shared things that are common to the genre, but with the cost of development rising and the over all expendable cash people have to spend on upgrading and paying subs and what not the market's going to polarize and we're all going to look back at this time when we had options to hop to fondly.

And honestly I see some games with the potential to launch with some learned knowledge under their belts, but that's not exactly genre busting or era defining in it's description.

I have to disagree. If you look at the genre today and compared it to its past, you will see that the golden age has passed in term of originality. More people are playing, more ips are being released, but nothing has been added to the spectrum of the genre; it's same as it was back with eq and uo as it is now. Same old this, same old that.

To add a little more to the topic, I believe that a "slump" is occuring across all genres and not just mmorpgs in general. I haven't played a good video game in quite a bit of time.

Ratting/missioning:

Divide the number of rats by approximately 12-20

Make each rat 12-20 times more effective (ie: vaguely realistic fits) and much, much smarter (at least as smart as sleepers).

Killing a pirate battleship should be a significant achievement for a solo PC. I would also end the bigger=better more dps=more ISK/hr equation for rats and ratting. Missions should call for a wide variety of ships, everything from bombers to battleships. Players could register with agents and the agents should be able to analyse the ships they can fly. Finish a mission for an agent, and you get an email offering you another one. Convo the agent to accept or refuse (none of this retarded docking up). Agent missions should send you all over the cluster, not be based around a couple of nearby systems.

Belt rats should be significantly more cunning, rarer and they should occasionally drop log books with the co-ordinates of plexes.

Rats should try and escape once they start losing a fight; tackling gear would be mandatory. They should also use various types of ammunition and fit realistic tanks. Ending the false and damaging distinction between PvE and PvP fits is an urgent priority.

 

Mining:

Belts should be much much larger - thousands of kilometers long. Only a small fraction of asteroids should have all that much ore - finding a good asteroid should be as good as finding a good plex, requiring the use of asteroid scanners, plus some actual player intelligence. The asteroids themselves should not have the ore evenly distributed. Focusing the scanner should reveal pockets of higher-concentration ore, on which the miner can focus his beams. Multiple pockets mean that getting the optimal yield will mean solving a 3-dimenstional puzzle so that the miner's beams pass through as many hi-density pockets as possible, and adjusting the solution in real time as the pockets are mined out (if anyone can make a macro for something like this, then good luck to them, they deserve the ISK). This would mean that active, skillful players could mine up to 4 or 5 times as much as the AFKers and macros.

Drone rat loot:

Time to get rid of "mining with guns" for the love of god. It was an interesting idea when it was introduced, but now it has to go. I'm not sure what should replace it, but it must change.
