The housing is a lot like DAoC, minus of course the consignment merchants standing on a porch slapped on the side of EVERY house (auction house is such a better system) Anyway, that's the closest game I can think of. On the SWG housing note... much like most everything else in that game (as far as core systems) we will never see anything that good again I'm afraid |

So the OP creates threads (yes, as in more than one) doing his best to bash this game and never follows up to answer any of the posts? So he finds that more fun than lotro? There are MANY games I have played that I didn't enjoy for a multitude of reasons... yet I never sat down and wrote paragraphs of text to bash those games. I just don't play them. I do write a review for EVERY game I play on this site however, perhaps the OP should find that link and stop greifing this forum.

Subscriber Decline is Staggering!
Round Table Pub (General) « Dark Age of Camelot 10/17/08 3:05:14 AM
Exactly what he said. Sadly because the PvP of DAoC is it's biggest selling point it's the only thing most people become interested in. In turn, once the numbers begin to drop it has a massive effect on re-subs and new subscriptions. People are not willing to try a game that is "all RvR" when there is nobody to fight. Anyone who has read my posts (I'm so sorry for you) knows I play mostly on the Co-op (PvE) server. I guess the way I look at it I have a few close frinds who I hang with there and still love it... that and $15 a month is still a LOT cheaper than buying a new game every month, or even every other month for that matter. Then again I'm the kind of person who still digs out Marrowind or Fable after seeing every sqare inch of those games. I suppose my point (I sometimes have one) is that if you ever enjoyed the game the numbers shouldn't sway your decision to come back and relive what you used to love. If nothing else you always have contacts right here on MMORPG.com that would be more than willing to help ya get back in the swing of things =) On a side note to any current players (or people thinking about coming back) who might be reading this, feel free to contact me if you want to see what the PvE server has to offer... and to the OP... don't cry for DAoC, no matter what happens anyone who has played it knows it was (and in my opinion sill is) the best MMO, if not game, ever! |

I think at this point everyone is looking at the population and waiting for "The Savior Server" to see if people play. I have an odd feeling that there are going to be a ton (give or take a few pounds) of people who will not play until they see a high population. The old "I'll play if other people play" approach. So unless a few hundred people jump on it as soon as it is released it might fail. Sadly the whiners and greifers rule the forums and "word of mouth" of the MMO genre so once there is even a hint that Origins might not be as populated as we all hope it will be there will be rampant stories of how is sucks and how "they" ruined it, etc. So my advice is, if you liked DAoC and would like to see it have another run at the glory of the "old days", you better grab your family and friends and re-up your accounts and log on Origins the second it drops... and stay logged on 24-7 so the "I'll play if others do" people see a decent population. Oh, and I'll see you there. |

Mythic still lettign DAOC die?
Round Table Pub (General) « Dark Age of Camelot 9/18/08 12:51:20 AM
In the early days of DAoC you were almost forced to group to level (unless you wanted to kill millions of blue/green mobs) and/or make gold, get decent drops. This wasn't just at the later levels, but almost from the get go. This would allow you to learn how to not only play your toon in a social/group setting, but also learn how to be a decent (a.k.a. non-asshat) member of the realm. In addition, EVERYONE used player crafted weapons and armor back then as well. This means that you had to make friends and avoid being a jerk if you wanted someone to craft for you... and as was already mentioned in an earlier post, some of the orders could take days to finish if you wanted highest quality. Another huge reason for watching how you treated others was the end game RvR. There were no 8-mans and very very few guild RvR teams... which means most groups were pick-up groups. If you wanted to get into a group you better hope you have made friends and made a decent rep. for yourself.
Compare that to most newer MMOs or even current DAoC. |

Mythic still lettign DAOC die?
Round Table Pub (General) « Dark Age of Camelot 9/16/08 9:52:54 PM
Just to add my 2 cents... you have hit on the very reason a lot of real old DAoC vets have moved (at least part-time) to the co-op server. I'm sure with the around 500 people playing there I have ran across most if not all of them in my many many hours playing there and the quality of players is so much better than any other server... or game... I have been a part of. Of course that is the nature of the server and is to be expected, but I've had zero asshat run-ins on Gaheris. I'm not trying to sell the server to anyone, just saying you are 100% correct about the jerks who have taken over the internet, MMOs, and even DAoC and just saying that this is *the* reason so many vets have toons on Gaheris. In response to the OP... I would say that Mythinc isn't letting DAoC die, they are just at a stage in the game where they cannot do anything to the game and not piss of the player base. I mean if the make any changes it will be viewed wrong no matter what, yet if they do nothing they are letting it die. It is a no win situation! Cue the Origins server. As I have already stated I am a PvE player thru and thru, but I will play on the Origins server for the sole reason I want DAoC to survive and I really hope it will have a decent run at it's past glory days. |

I know most people say it's "stupid" or "a waste of time"... but so is this entire hobby and at least I was having fun. I mean honestly, any old-timer albion vet remembers camping the pygmy goblin house... I just did that for several days... and with many alts... and many other camps/mobs, lol. It's a sickness, I know. |

Your rant is so odd. Are you saying when someone is unhappy with the direction of a MMO they should just suck it up? Sorry, bud, but when they destroyed DAoC it just wasn't fun. Obviously most people agreed, since 45,000 users used to be on at once. RIght now there are 4500. You are in the minority, thank god.
Thanks for making my point. Nobody listened to you then... nobody is now. Money speaks louder than words and I'm pretty sure the loss of that many paying players had a LOT more to do with any changes than irate video game players spamming random internet forums. It's a game... nothing more. Wasting your time bitching about a change to an online game is even more pathetic than the hours spent playing them. I would also like to thank your god that I am in the minority as well. If I don't enjoy something I move on. Don't let me put a dent in the non-stop whine making process tho, you're fighting the good fight... bud. |

This would be the only way I would play WAR... yes, you read that right. For all the whiney "mmo experts" who feel the need to complain about every change to every game... I have yet to play your awesome game that provides exactly what EVERY player wants. if "they" changed "your" game and you don't like the change you should tell the world about it because of course everyone cares about your opinion. It's so odd that the one thing that makes MMOs so great also make them suck... players. |

The only cure is playing an open char. (sandbox) style game where you are forced to play one toon only... then again that just leads to a lot of retraining and trying other skills and never really getting a final set-up/temp.
So no, I guess there is no hope |

any word on DAOC and WAR subs
Round Table Pub (General) « Dark Age of Camelot 8/12/08 12:55:27 AM
DAoC will never be a free game, that's not a rumor, that's just lies. The fact that Mythic created a "master account" system added fuel to the rumors of a multi-game sub. plan, but still nothing in print. I hate the rumor BS so I want to put this in plain english... *This is what I would do if I were Mythic*... Allow all the WAR subs. to pour in and level off while doing the same to the DAoC returns after the Origins release. Once the numbers have leveled off then, and only then, offer a multi-game sub. package to keep as many players as possible. I know most people are saying they would return and/or try DAoC if this was an option... I'm on the other side of the fence. I'll give WAR a go if they offer such a package. If not I couldn't care less about WAR. |

I can't really answer that one, here is why. I bought the expansions on day one AND I burned myself out on RvR and haven't really done any PvP in a while so I cannot say what the state of the game is for players without the expansions. I can say that several months ago there were many players (some in my guild) who did not have either expansions and RvR'ed nightly. You will not be a "gimp" without the expansions, but they will help for sure. One thing to think about is the highest pop. battelground is the level 24 (Thidranki). You gain no bonuses from the expansions at that level but can get a very good idea what the whole "RvR experience" is like. |

Origins will not include either of the expansions as far as the zones go. They have not really released a lot of info on how they will be implementing a lot of the "stuff", details are slowly coming out but honestly I do not know if anything on those expansions will be implemented on Origins. As far as what you will be missing out on... not much at all under level 30. I would say use your free trial time to the fullest and see if you will really be hooked. If you play multiple toons/classes and/or in diff. realms to get a feel for the entire game you won't get near lvl 30 for a while which will give you plenty of time to see if you want to order the expansions. And yes, if you are going to buy them, buy them bundled and save a few $. Also, you really wont find a more helpful group of players than DAoC. Anytime someone says "I'm new and this is my 1st char." people come out of the woodwork to help out. The reason for this is simple, more players = more fun! |

My advice would be not to get the expansions till after level 30. But yea, they are almost needed later in the game. Also, I think starting now is a good idea if you grow to like the game (and you will of course). The reason i say this is because you will have ample time to learn the game and get some RvR skill before the "Origins" server comes out which will have a very high population from day one. I just read on another forum that there is an entire guild returning from WoW when Origins is released... I'm sure this will be just one of many large groups coming back. |

Any of the "classic" servers are a safe bet. They are all 3 clustered so they all share the same zones (just not housing). Just a small tip for a 1st timer, don't judge the game by your first few RvR runs. Like any game that has been around for a while you will notice the hardcore players have zero mercy. Try to find a group to run with in the battelgrounds and you'll be hooked after that 1st 8 vs. 8 fight! |

No worry about your old toons, they are there waiting on you... bored and a little pissed. |

There have been a lot of changes for sure, but it's still DAoC... if that makes any sense. If you have not heard the buzz about the "origins" server you should check it out. That alone is worth coming back, whenever it is released that is. |
