More english speakers there huh?  Hmm, maybe I'll delete my Galka and start over on Pandy then...it's a hard choice just coming into it.  When I played before I played on Leviathan, but like you I  wanted a fresh start.

I would like for my server to have plenty of nice, english speaking folks, as my japanese is shaky at best and my kanjii (sp?) is...well non-existant ^^.  I would like to find a good linkshell to start out in too.  Maybe I'll start a "what server are you on and why" thread lol.

I will take your advice and try to use the number pad.  The main problem I had with that was that I kept trying to backup and ended up going in/out of first person since the number 5 is right smack in the middle of the movement keys.  But then I imagine it's all what you get used it.  Probably wouldn't take any time to adjust.

I would recommend making a new character on the same server just so you can get the feel of the game again.  You can still play your other character later, and any money/skills that you get with your new character can contribute to your hunter as well.

Also, with all of the changes they have made to the classes, it wouldn't be a bad idea to try a few different ones, just to decide which you like best.  I've found that I like classes now that I didn't like at first.  Just had to find the right playstyle for them ^^

I wouldn't delete the hunter though.  I'm sure you 'll want to play him again.

I started my character last night!!  The updates were ungodly, but they finished around 11:40pm and I was able to get in.  I made a hume white mage, my husband said he'd come play with me on the buddy pass once I got settled in, so I wanted to make a character in the same area as the one he might make.  I did opt to delete her this morning after sleeping on it for the galka, but I hadn't gotten too far ^^

As I posted in another one, it is a very different experience from most games!  Which is what I was looking for.  Me and my husband both have lifetime accounts on LoTRO, and we play that.  So I don't really need something similar.

In case someone is readign this post who may be coming back/starting playing soon, I'll repost this about the movement.  You don't naturally move with WASD, you move with the number pad.  However, you can go to config and set it to compact keyboard and that will allow you to do WASD.  I had to ask someone for help moving last night, haha.  Considering how long I've been playing MMO's it was slightly embarassing :) but they were very helpful and nice.

Since I made a galka, I switched to warrior.  Going to level this to subjob and then get monk.  If I remember correctly warrior has the provoke ability which is nice for parties.  Can't remember what level though.   My warrior/galka sure kills things significantly faster than my whm/hume:)

Reetin, I did decide to start on Lakshmi (sp?) since you posted first, and I would be very interested to join your guild if they are accepting new members.  There is a lot I need to relearn about this game and if your guild doesn't mind a bunch of newbie questions...then it would help me out a lot.

ParkCarsHere, thanks for your helpful post too ^^ I agree after playing last night that WHM may not be the best to start out with ^^, but I do plan on playing it some later...as I do all the jobs.  If you don't mind me asking, what made you decide to switch to Pandy from Lak?

Thanks to everyone for your helpful responses.  Usually the forum posts about a game are all insults/complaining, so if the people here are any indication of the current community in the game, I think I'll be around for a long time :)

I re-joined the game last night myself:)

I called customer service yesterday and had my user name/password issued to me within 10 minutes.  They were very helpful and polite IMHO.  I was surprised considering the bad things I heard about them in "the day" rofl.  You will need your credit card that was on your old account, your b-day, name, address, etc.  They will also ask for your registration code, but it may not be necessary.  They issued an exception for me since I didn't have mine (game got thrown out).

But since I was going to have to buy the game again anyway.  I decided to just start a new account/character.  I'm glad I did!  It's been around two years since I last played and I was totally lost starting out.  I had to ask someone how to move :/ lol  how embarrasing...

Luckily a very helpful person told me (I'm telling you just in case you need it, learn from my mistakes :) that you use the number pad to move in this game.  I learned today from playign with the settings that you can set it to compact keyboard and use the WASD movement keys...which is helpful starting out if you've played other mmos using the WASD system.

Hope this helps!

I'm going to be buying a box tonight and starting over.  If I remember correctly, the update will take so long that I probably won't be able to play until tommorrow, lol.

When is server downtime for this game?  Once again, suggestions appreciated :)

Thanks in advance!

What server are you on?  There's always a lot of people playing, but it can be a little trying to get groups in this game every now and then due to how easy it is to solo in this game.

If you do come back, try going to Evendim.  There's a lot of quests there for your level, and it shouldn't be too hard to at least get a pick-up group for the quests over there.  I've never had any trouble getting help anyway.

I would also like to add that one of my kinmates usually ends up getting together a group before I can even get over to the zone to help him!  May just be a time of day thing.

I'd probably remake my first character.  Zabrak, start on Talus and get right to working on mastering creature handler and rifleman with some ranger mixed in for fun :)

Either that or my human, bounty hunter/CH.

I would work to get a home up as soon as possible too.  It's almost be cool if they just started from the beginning and released the expansions (free to those who have already got them of course) one at a time.  But then, they'd still have the starter bugs...and who wants to master Bounty hunter on foot?!  Ouch, I humbly bow to those who managed it back before mounts/speeders came out.

Of course, that is if I could bring myself to break my own rules and give $OE money again.  Hard to erase the past.

Thank you for your response, it was very detailed and helpful.  I think I am going to come back and try it again.  I had thrown my other copy out a couple of years ago so I'll have to buy another one, but I think it's worth $20 for a month's test drive.  Besides, I didn't have any of the expansions and the game + 3 expansions are extremely cheap for $20.00.

Any suggestions on a server/guild to start on?

Also, do the female avatar characters still get hit on a lot?  I had an elvaan female and it was almost unbearable.  I see you have a mithra which had it worse if  I remember correctly so maybe you will know.  If they do I may just start a galka.  Sometimes it just better to play male avatars instead of females.

Finally, any hints on a good starter class would be appreciated.  I'll play them all by the end of it, but would like to have a good foundation to get started on.  Especially since I won't start with a subjob as my other account/acharacter is gone now.  But maybe it's best to get a clean start.

Thanks for any help/suggestions  you can give me!

Welcome back!

There has been a LOT of stuff added since beta.  I think you'll be pleasantly surprised :)

They've added to the story, done a lot of work on the classes/quests, added factions and housing...there's jsut a ton of stuff to do in game now.  You might want to check out the notes on the different books (9-12 i believe were released after beta, might be 8-12 though) on the website and see what's new :)

Of course, you may have already seen some of the stuff that's been released since you played a little after beta.  I play on Meneldor (Heatheryn, Aiwe, Eeli, Sekia, Khalion).  Feel free to send me a tell if you have any questions at all about the game.

You say that people rush through the game and are only focused on leveling, then you say the only reason you are not playing is BECAUSE you can't level up as fast. Seems kind of contradictory. Yeah, the game does take a while to get things done, depending on what you're doing and how much time you have to commit. However, if you REALLY didn't care about min/maxing and getting through levels, you wouldn't really care how long it took and would just have fun playing the game.

Maybe I read you guys wrong, but that was the overall message I got. Getting parties is by no means impossible no matter the job, and because it is hard to solo means almost everyone else is in the same boat as you.

If there's another reason keeping you away from FFXI then that's fine, but if it's just because of the time it takes to get through levels... well... the kind of goes against everything else you guys have posted in this thread ;).

Anyways, like I said in my original post, this in no way is an example of all the people on my server, or even in FFXI. In fact, that is the only time it's happened so far, and I was simply making a statement that it is ridiculous that people are playing this game to jump through the levels. Oh well...

Time to level doesn't really bother me.  I personally believe in enjoying the game rather than making the mad rush to level cap.  When I said it took to long to solo...well that's just cause it does take a really really long time to solo^^

One of the problems I had was the inability to get a group when I did want to do some leveling.  I didn't find it impossible to get a group with my monk, it just took a really long time to get one.  It was nothing to spend two hours waiting for a group for example.  And I had my subjob leveled and didn't have a bad reputation or anything.  It was just that people would pick several other classes before choosing a monk to group with.

My problem with a lot of the community was that they for the most part seemed of the leet-minded noob-callers.  I never got called a noob, but it seemed like anytime anyone asked anything they were ridiculed.

When I went back on my last time  I had a lot of problems grouping in Valkrum Dunes (I think that was what it was called, it has been awhile).   I started a new character so that I could relearn the game, and made a red mage.  I didn't have any trouble getting a group, but the majority of the groups had people whowere really immature and ended up getting us killed multiple times.

I really enjoyed it back when I first started playing it, that's why I've tried to go back so many times.  I remember having some really great groups where we killed stuff efficiently, people were nice, and the xp flowed...but those groups didn't seem to be as plentiful.

It may have changed a lot by now.  As I said in my other post, I've heard from different people that the community is great now, and I've heard that it's pretty much like I remember it.   Hard to get a good reading from forum crowds :)

But no, leveling slow doesn't really bother me ^^

Sorry to rant.

I haven't ever played lands of hope so I don't know exactly how the gameplay is in it.  However, there are several games out there that offer some of the things you are looking for

Lord of the rings online, Everquest II, Vanguard, Final Fantasy Online, Star Wars Galaxies all offer some form of housing/decorating.

I know that LoTRO, Everquest II and Final Fantasy all have a resource collecting (go out and mine) crafting system.  SWG requires harvesters that you leave for long periods of time to collect stuff for you.   I can't speak for Vanguard's crafting having never played it.

For the most part in these games you will have to do some adventuring, but it looks like you have to do that in the Lands of Hope game too, so maybe that won't hinder you.  The crafting in Final Fantasy requires crystals that you collect while fighting.  All three are relatively deep.  LoTRO and EQII more so than FF is I remember correctly.

EQII is deeper in the fact that in order to get better items, you have to actively hit buttons/abilities while crafting.  It's not just a hit the button once type of thing.

Good luck with whatever you choose ^^ If you join LoTRO, start on the Meneldor server and send me a tell if you have any questions :)

My main character is Heatheryn

Wow, you must be playing those crappy free games. The ONLY MMO out there that charges less than $15 a month is LOTRO and there's alot of people that think it isn't worth that.

$15 is standard. Heck, I was part of one of those devchats with the PoTBS team before it was released and asked what it would be during the chat. They said it would be $15. If you don't believe that $15 is standard, go pull up all the good games on this site and take a look.

$15 is pretty much the standard nowadays.  However there are a few games out there that charge less than $15.  For example, Final Fantasy online is $12.95 I believe per month, and there are still some $9.95 ones out there.   And while these games may not be for everyone, it doesn't mean they're "crappy."

LoTRO is $15 a month.  The $10 price they have up now is a limited time special that Turbine seems to be running on all for their games right now.

Have you been typing in a full email address?  The login for guild wars is along the lines of fakename@plaync  if I remember correctly.

If you're typing in fakename@plaync.com it will tell you that it is incorrect.  Also, do you have other games on your plaync account?  maybe you could use the details of those games to help get your password sent to you.  Credit card info, etc.

Other than that, I guess hit the reset password key and check all the emails you remember that you have.

Good luck!

Same here.  I like to group, but the forced grouping in this game goes to new levels.  The setup of this game is awesome..being able to play all of the classes with one character, using a subclass, the storylines, the world...this game has so much going for it.  I love the game itself, but I quit and actually ended up throwing away my copy of this game so that I wouldn't be tempted to go back because of the community.

Also, I had started out as a monk and wanted to make it my main, but it was painfully difficult to get a group in my mid-thirties.  I hear that the game has changed that and made monks more useful to a group now.  I also hear people saying that the community is both really good and really bad so I don't know what to believe.

If they were to add the ability to solo more in this game I would be back in a heartbeat too.  Soloing was possible but very difficult and very very time consuming last I checked.

On the other hand, after playing many console FF games, I find that grouping is a HUGE part of those games.  Therefore I don't know if it would be fitting for them to add solo content to this particular world.  Maybe they could do something like guild wars and give you the ability to group with NPCs.   Just a thought.

You know it's funny your crying about a game still that has changed nearly 2 years ago and then stating they can't do the job right because of their age? so them being in their 20's ruins the game right, and you being a 12 year old with a blog to B*tch moan and whine about something that's done and you know will never change makes you right? let your balls drop and move on to something else.

Edit: And I love that other comment ya made, telling Shuke to "get over it" maybe you should take your own advice?

Comments like this add nothing to the conversation.  Creating a post to insult and cuss someone out is a waste of your time, theirs and mine.  Also, it shows your age more than anything.

Why is it that every post made in the SWG forums has to end up this way?  It should be a place where people can equally express their despair at losing something that once meant a lot to them AND for people who are currently enjoying the game can talk about what they like/dislike about the game without fear of being called childish names and treated badly.

There are people who both love and hate this game.  Its true of every game no matter how good or bad it is.  I personally cannot stand this game because it will never be what I want to play.  It'll never be what it was to ME.  But I don't begrudge those who like the game.

just my two...er five...um..better make that twenty-five cents.  sorry for the long post ^^

I say give it a try.  It is a good game, and doesn't really have a steep learning curve or anything from my experience.  If that doesn't work you might try LoTRO.  Me and my husband have had a lot of luck getting our friends who have never played an MMO to start playing this game.  It helps a LOT to have someone you know playing who already knows the game well enough to give you some pointers.

Worse case scenario, if you can't get her into it, (and I hesitate to say it due to the all of the haters out there) then you could try WoW with her.  WoW is very easy to learn and play so it's easy to get non-gamers into it.

It's great being able to play with your significant other online.  Some people go out to eat and to the movies together, we spend time hunting and questing in alternate universes.  Nothing like completing a quest you had no business doing to bring you closer ^^

Good luck!

This was an awesome video :) Made me REALLY miss the old days of galaxies, back when I used to play.  I know its been said in other posts, but I've never played an MMO that can touch the community galaxies had back in the day.

Too bad we'll never see those days again.

I turned them down though.  Being a white male, I am so rich and well connected that I don't need money working a job.  My ferari and 10k square foot house is comp'd by society which gives me free stuff every day, so working would just be a distraction.  This is the curse of being white and male in our society.

Well stated ^^
