Hiya,

Welcome to LoTRO!  I wasn't sure if anyone answered this, but I'm not sure if trial accounts can use the advice channel.

A while back, LoTRO was PLAGUED by gold spammers.  We wouldnt go five minutes without 20 gold spam tells.  It was VERY annoying to say the least.  Almost unbearable.  So they took a lot of steps to get rid of that and now, I may get 1 spam tell in a month, tops.

To do this, they limited the trial account's access to cretain chat channels such as tells.  I think this is a much better approach as it has significantly decreased gold spammer tells and their appearance in a lot of the main channels (although if you stand in bree for any amount of time than half a second they'll be all over OOC, but you can report them easily y right clicking on their name and choosing reportas spammer.)

So many games lately have been reducing access to their trial accounts, which may cut down on spammers, but also on paying customers.

BTW like he said above, you didn't waste your money on the instruments.  Some you will use as a minstrel for combat purposes.  But if you like music, their music system is actually a pretty  cool and in-depth mini-game.  Check the main forums if you want to play though, there' a sticky post that tells you how to do it.  And you'll need it.

I play on Meneldor and I never have a hard time population wise.  We played the other night and there were a ton of people on!  everyone in my kinship kept commenting on it.  But as they said it may be a time of day thing.

Hope some of this helps.  If you join Meneldor and need any help add Heatheryn, Sekia, Eeli, Aiwe, Khalion to your list and send me a tell if you have any questions at all :)

He rips on everything, lol.  The thing about the Age of Conan was just a rip on himself.  Note when he says (not an exact quote, but close enough)  "did they get the ugliest guy they could find just to cover up the low production cost values?"  and then he pauses and  turns around and touches the cheaply made screen material behind him.

He was poking fun at himself and his "show" way more so than AoC.  He just didn't quite get his timing/wording right.  Read the non-deaththreat/loser comments below and then watch it again.

If you don't like his opinion, don't watch his live-action attempt at comedy blog ^^

Personally, i thougth the 360/hd-dvd thing was kinda funny..because that part is pretty much based on fact.

You can easily develop a deep character if you mean motivations, desires, dreams, hopes, ambitions, backstory and so on. Just be sure to fit it to the stasis of the game, otherwise they will never be able to come to fruition.

If you are a big Tolkien fan I would personally (me personally, not like that is a gigantic truth or something, just me saying how I feel) recommend that you do not take up this game unless you are prepared to ignore the Tolkien you have read and accept Turbine's version of Middle Earth.

For me, the breaking points are as follows (then you decide whether they mean anything to you, if not, go for the trial):

- The world is very small. The scope and grandeur of Middle Earth is for me not present due to the world being VERY small.

Since they are working off of matierial that was created a long time ago, they had to start out with a small portion or else they would use up all of the material that they had.  Who wants a game to release with all of the content it will ever have?

- There are aggressive Monsters EVERYWHERE. This is tied in to the whole effort of making the game a generic fantasy MMO with "Kill X amount of monster Y, return to Questgiver Z" or "Collect X amount of Y, return to Questgiver Z" but it also means that the journey, the exploration, and the immersion into the world of Middle Earth is for me just a tour through a Fun Fair with a whole lot of Shooting Tents.

- Healing is done by playing a drum/banjo. I kid you not. If this was morale only (a sort of alternate value apart from your health and resilience) it would make sense, but this is healing the crushing blows of dragons and trolls, not about summoning up the actual courage of fighting these things.

"Healing" is different in this game then other games.  You do not have a health bar at all.  You have a morale bar.   Since dying and coming back constantly is not lore-tastic, they had to develop another way to go about it.  Therefore instead of dying, you retreat from battle.  So it makes sense (especially in a roleplaying sense) that you would use music to boost your confidence (morale) and enable you to stay in combat for longer periods of time, etc.

- You have Elves, Dwarves, and Hobbits who are not even remotely recognizable to the ones you read about. This means that Bree is brimming with these rare and special races in this Age of Man. Simple solution could have been to limit them to one per account, only accessible after doing certain things or something else. The current status makes Middle Earth indiscernable from any fantasy world in any other fantasy MMO.

I think the races fit the lore well enough, but I do agree that a ton of elves and hobbits and such running around massively in bree is a tad silly.  However, if they were to have limited this game to just the man race, there would have been riots about how it didn't fit with the lore ^^

- Aggressive deers, colossal spiders (and other creatures that just make me shake my head), orcs & goblins right outside settlements (but they just stand there, waiting to be killed, it is not a flowing living world where defenders fight these creatures or where the orcs/goblins once in a while attacks). The feeling of a static world is very much present everywhere you go.

Colossal spiders don't fit in Middle Earth?  Hobbit anyone?  I would also like to say that i think it is pretty silly to have so many aggressive deer in the open, but then again they are deer from an alternate reality, so who know s what they would do.  And its not too unbelievable that a male of a species would act aggressively when it's mates/offspring are near.

This is just my opinion, other people will have other opinions

True, this game is not for everyone.  Plenty of love and hate flying out towards this game.  Try it out for yourself and see how you feel.  I will agree that Landroval has a great community with plenty of RP.  If you are a true RP, I'm sure you just need a good setup to get you started and won't feel the need to have your story/characters life spoonfed to you.  You should find plenty of like-minded folks hanging around on Landroval:)

Good luck!

What I don't want though is : Endless Grinds, undetailed worlds, no purpose except for leveling and buying
new stuff at set levels from shopkeepers, my character is supposed to feel unique and not like a total
copy of another which is at the same level.

In my opinion, the addition of the new outfit system in LoTRO has gone a long way towards getting rid of the feeling that you character looks just like everyone elses.  Of course, you have to hit lvl 20 to get into this.

The LoTRO world is very detailed right now.  They have added touches like housing into the game to give it a more lifelike feel.  If you haven't played in a while, I suggest you give it another shot now that a few content patches/books have come out.

I love LOTRO and would encourage everyone to at least try it, but if you don't want a game that's more solo oriented then this may not be the game for you.  There is a lot of group stuff to do, but you can basically solo pretty easily from 1-50.

I don't remember how old it is, but from what I've read about it, Lineage II sounds like it would be a good game for you.  It centers heavily on group/guild activity from what I understand.  It seems to be a pretty deep game too.  There are a lot of high level players, but I'm sure that they roll alts, especially with the recent release of a new race.

Hope this helps!

I'm trying to choose a class and the names are very different than typical MMO names. Can anyone verify what I have so far?

- Burglar = Thief = Rogue

- Lore Master = Druid = Naturalist

- Hunter = Amazon = Ranger

- Guardian = Warrior = Battlemaster

- Champion = Lightweight warrior = Dual Wielder

- Captain = Lightweight warrior = Paladin = Squad Commander

- Mistrel = Bard = Healer

Are those about right?

Those are pretty much right.  I would say that guardian is a tanking warrior and champion is a dps warrior lol.  The basic idea of the classes is the same, but they don't really play like standard classes.

I recommend you try all of the classes.  I found I ended up playing some classes that I thought I wouldn't like more than the ones I thought I would love.  For instance, I love pet classes so I made a loremaster.  However my champ made it to level 47 before she hit 35.

The game has only been out a year, so its not that old.  To me it seems like the population is growing.  When I'm in the starter areas for instance there's always tons of people doing quests there with new characters.

Of course, I'm on Meneldor, I can't speak for the other servers.  I think Brandywine is one of the more populated of the servers, could be wrong though.

There will probably be a lot more people joining up once the new expansion comes out too.  I think this game has great potential to grow ^^ it has a lot more depth to it than most and they add more with every new book that comes out.

Just my 2cents.

Didn't I read a post a month or two ago regarding Codemasters and a competition where they offered up a suit of armor as a reward?  if I remember correctly, the guy said that he and his guild had won the competition and, not only did they never receive it, but Codemasters offered it up as a reward for another competition.

Anyone confirm/deny this?  If its true i must say I don't have much incentive to participate in this competition.  Of course, I'm a screenshot junkie so I might just have something laying around

Anyone else here remember when all of the crafters gathered outside of Theed in SWG to protest the new crafting changes?  The GM's response?  Teleported them into the Deathwatch Bunker if I remember correctly.

ROFL yeah there are a certain number of posts that should be started and sticked to the top whenever theyadd a new game in:

for example:

why this game will suck

why this game will fail

this game will be the wow-beater!

There are several more...but you get the gist ^^

Deleted my original post because I misread ^^

You may still be able to get the 07 collection for mac, not positive though.  But if you can $20 isnt a bad investment since you'll probably have to start all over anyway.  They are quick to delete your characters in that game so they are probably gone now anyway.  The return to Vana'diel was a limited time thing which ended at the end of Feb i believe

Im just glad he is a WoW player, people like him and his ilk are the soul reasonj Ive never even gone near the game beyond a trial, and that was painful enough to keep me away for good.

Agreed.   I play LoTRO and, though the community has been very good for the most part, we are starting to get some of the WoW-kid crowds now that the game is growing in popularity.  People like this kill the game.  First thing I do when I make a new character is leave OOC, which is a shame because sometimes there are people asking honest questions who might need help, but I can't bring myself to wade through the random "barren's chat" nonsense :p   i mean, you'd think people would be tired of Chuck Norris jokes after a year, c'mon.

I miss the community from pre-CU SWG.   Haven't seen one that good in any game I've played since.

I'm saying that AoC won't have millions of subscribers.  I mean hell, how many MMO's out there can actually boast having 1 mil subscribers?  And you're talking about millions of players on a game that probably won't run well on most people's computers.

WoW has millions because it has simple, fun gameplay that people who have never ever even thought about playing a computer game let alone an MMO can jump right in and start playing with minimal problems.  It also runs on a lot of low end computers meaning that the gaming newbie doesn't have to shell out a lot of money for it.

And as far as Darkfall hitting those numbers, well I think it'll be kind of hard if they are centering mostly on PvP because they will be excluding the more casual-geared audiences which are starting to flock to the mmo market.

That being said, people need to learn that a game does nto have to hit WoW numbers to be successful.  If Darkfall gets 200,000+ people playing it, that should be enough to keep the game running and updating right?  I really hope that the WoW logic doesn't keep killing off potentially good games :/

Did I miss something??

He has an in-game screenshot of the total time that he has played that character.  As an added bonus it includes his tells harassing a GM that could surely be helping someone with a real problem rather than dealing with his nonsense :p lol

The only real problem with his proof is that he is standing in ironforge so he is gathering rest state and you can't see his character's level, LOL.

Stuff like this makes you really appreciate games like Lineage II where you can actually get a feeling of serious accomplishment when you get a character to max level.   1 day 2 hours? geez

Wow. There are a lot of people who suggest  the Lore Master, here in mmorpg.com and the lotro site. Personally I love my captain, but have yet to try an LM. I guess I have to roll one and try it for myself.

In all reality, I like and play all of the classes.  Just if I had to pick one I'd say the LM.  My husband laughs at me because I always say I like the class I'm playing at that exact moment the best^^

I hate levelling my characters when they have no rest state, so I switch around a lot.  I find that I enjoy a class once I figure out the strategy behind it.   As I said in another post, i HATED guardian for a long time, could hardly bring myself to play it.  But once I got to the point where the guardian began to get abilities that keyed off of each other, I found it was really easy to solo with and I could take crazy amounts of stuff with it.

The LM was tough for me for a little while when I tried to use my bear to solo, but if you use the raven (which flanks more) you can use your heal (which keys off of pet flanks) and equip the trait that gives you bonus damage with your staff when your pet flanks.  Never try to play a LM like a hunter in WoW.  Always make sure youre hittign with your staff as well as casting (if you're soloing).

They are also great for grouping, I just tend to solo a lot so that's my most of my post in about that ^^

Curious about any story that could stir up SOE's sense of morality, I ran a search and found the story (ies) that this article was about .    I dont want to post a direct link, but I found it on www.planetcrap.com in a post.

Frankly, they're both pretty horrific stories, and I can see why people would get upset about them, but there is a post below it that has a snippet of another story posted on the official forums that involves "child rape" that hadn't (at least at the time) been dealt with at all even though it was on the OFFICIAL forums.

I suppose it was just because someone complained about Mystere's stories that they felt they had to take action, but I think if you're going to go cleaning other people's houses you should at least make sure yours is clean first.  Banning one person but not another seems like unfair treatment to me.

At any rate, they could have at least handled it better.  They could have asked that he remove the story (or did I miss the part where they did that?)  instead of banning him and telling him "we don't want your kind 'round here" :p

I voted Loremaster.  First off, i LOVE pet classes, and with the necklaces and min-pet things they added I have a large variety of them.

But most importantly, I love the versatility of the class.  I do well soloing with my pets or  I can group and be very useful.  Me and my husband duo or group with our kinship mostly and we do great with my loremaster out there.

She has 2 different stuns and can mez an opponent for 30 seconds (the ability has a 15 second recharge timer so you can potentially mez two targets at once). I can heal (have the trait slotted for 20 recast timer for grouping), transfer power to group members who need it, take power from an enemy (stopping him from doing special attacks), DOT, AOE, REZ, have two separate root abilities that last for up to 30 seconds...oh, and I can set things on FIRE.  What more could you want ? :D Looking forward to my legendary trait that lets me use the sword and the staff ^^

Oh i forgot, I have three different class abilities that let me  heal myself in combat, PLUS im a human so I get a racial heal. LM FTW.
