The starting area was brilliant. Strong direction with good voice overs gave an immersing feel to the game. This is why most reviews are so positive. Unfortunately once you move away from Tortage, the game desends to your standard MMORPG. Missions are simplistic and easy to follow. Many loading screens between areas travelled take away from the expansive feeling of the world that WoW gave you. Several missions are bugged. Content beyond level 40 is sparce.

...

Some of the promised content isn't there. Siege Warfare, DX10, Spell Weaving. End game content is near zero.

Overall I would say give the game 6 months to straighten itself out.
Don't believe me check out the game forums at http://f orums.ageofconan.com/forumdisplay.php?f=8

Cynically one could say that FC are so bad that they deliberately sacrificed the quality of the high-end content in order to suck more people in and to get more favourable reviews.

that strategy appears to have backfired badly...

I won't say how I voted, but I will say that I voted based on what's best for the mmorpg genre. If more people make their voices heard about how this game is grossly unfinished, buggy, or un-fun then more developers will see that. Honestly, take a step back and look at this game as a whole, from level 1-80. Ask yourself is this something you want to see again with another mmorpg? If you answer yes then keep subscribing and keep playing, and let them know. If you answer no then keep posting and let the developers know and unsubcribe. Let people know how you feel. Don't lie it will only hurt this genre, and more developers will continue this path of releasing games in the future.

well said. qft.

uk.pc.ign.com/articles/878/878496p1.html

"As for the content, things seem to start to tail off in terms of solid quest lines and more engaging content once you hit 40. In the Field of the Dead, the game's zone for those between 40 and 50, things start off at a decent clip with a few quests near the zone's beginning, but then seem to sputter to a slow crawl, offering only a few tasks and meager rewards. Compared to the polished level 1 through 20 experience in Tortage and large number of quest chains available in the 20 to 40 zones, Field of the Dead doesn't really stack up. Leveling is still entirely possible through grinding as downed mobs around your level give out pretty good experience bonuses, but opportunities to gain quest experience rewards that can so quickly propel you along the leveling curve seem to dry up. Without the strength of the narrative threads present in the 20 to 40 zones, the game turns into more of a chore to play."

or is IGN just trolling AoC too?

when a major gaming site described a game as a "chore to play", you can be sure there are issues.

let's see what the fanboys say about this one, should be amusing...

What's wrong with AoC? It's TSOC.... The.Same.Old.Crap that we continue to buy again and again. You log into health bars and buttons, go on a linear Kill 10 Bunny quests in an instanced, psuedo-single player world until you run out of them, then cancel your account. Stop buying EQ clones people, it's the only reason they're still making crap like this. These games are nothing more than wateredown single player adventure games with chat boxes.

QFFT

you posted something negative about the game, and despite justfying your subjective opinion with numerous clear and objectively described experiences, you must be labelled a troll, according to my AoC clueless fanboy handbook.

The only fail in this thread is AoC, for releasing 6 months too early.

if you guys want to keep paying for FC to fix the tons of bugs, and add the features that are written on the box but still aren't in the game, then go right ahead.

me, when i pay for something i expect to get a finished product.

regardless of how many polls there are that show a fairly high proportion of discontent, there will always be clueless morons with virtually no MMO experience rushing to defend it... and some of those are FC employees...

i think the survey shows pretty much what a lot of us are saying - it's an OK game which was released too early, with too many bugs, and too little content. this comes through pretty strongly if you look through the individual question results.

The OP is pretty much dead on with my impressions of the game.

it looks, feels and plays like a very unfinished game, and i wouldn't advise anyone pay for it for at least 6 months unless they are some combonation of a) masochistic, b) never played an MMO before, c) not fussy d) desperate for a change.

You people need to get over the fact that the game was released too early. I'm a pretty patient guy; if they can fix all or most of the problems the game has in a reasonable amount of time, I'll be happy.

Perhaps you don't have an issue with paying full-price for unfinished/beta software, but being a professional software developer, i do.

fact is, FC promised a bunch of things, some of which are printed on the box the game came in, which are still not in the game. that is against the law, not to mention deliberately deceptive, and deeply unprofessional.

Reading between the lines... FC know they released too early, they are losing tons of subscribers, and are having trouble deleting the negative posts on the forums fast enough to keep up.

FC are showing a lot of desperation...

man fanboys will say anything to defend their game... (first/second MMO syndrome?).

As I previously stated, I have yet to make a decision as to whether or not to purchase AoC.  I responded to this thread because I found the title to be misleading.  Your subsequent posts make me wonder whether you are being purposefully misleading (or willfully ignorant).

What do you say to:

In that poll, 80% of respondents said that they were happy.

...and

Of those that reported that they were not pleased with the game's current state (n=767), 82% (630 of the 767) *still* report that they are "happy".

while that is true, it is also true that 70% were either not happy, and/or not pleased with the game in its current state.

seeing as i found the poll linked from the official AoC EU forums, and as much as the fanboys would like otherwise, the poll shows quite a high level of dissatisfaction with the game, which correlates with my experience of the game.

i'm not sure what they were thinking, but i bet it went something like this:

AoC developer: "my team needs another 3-6months to add the features we promised and to squash the game-breaking and other high-priority bugs"

AoC manager: "bah, screw the players, 90% of them are idiots and will happily pay us while we add the features we promised on the box and fix the bugs"

man fanboys will say anything to defend their game... (first/second MMO syndrome?).

For anyone thinking of getting Conan:

don't. it's really buggy, and missing a lot of basic content.

honest opinion: give FC 3-6 months to fix the game, then if you still want to try it, do so then. note: you might not like it because everything is instanced and the gameplay as a whole is not really anything new or different, however the graphics are pretty decent.

basically: don't pay FC to bugfix a beta-quality game.

once again, AoC devs admit they released the game unfinished, buggy and too early, which is what a LOT of us have been saying all along.

is it a good MMO now? no, i don't think so, feels unfinished to me and gameplay is too narrow.

That is your opinion, cos u expected a game as polished as WoW that has been out for 4 years!

will it be an ok MMO 3-6 months from now? maybe

It will be much better in 3-6 months

does it offer anything new to the MMO genre? no, not really.]

It has more new features in it then any recently released game fyi.

Troll, go back to WoW.

Meh get over it already.

I love how fanboys always assume you play WOW if you criticise AoC. FYI, i don't.

Ohhhhhhhh myyyyyyyyy goooooddddddd. I dont know how you could be so stupid OP... I direct this at all trolls. Stop trying to be cool, get attention or whatever by hating on this game. IF YOU DONT LIKE IT, AT MOST TELL US WHY, AND THEN GTFO. AoC didnt steal your money, Funcom are doing a pretty good damn job, and quite a few people enjoy the game, like it or not, and cry all you want you cant change this. God OP, you post a stupid statement, back it up with a very unreliable source, which turns out to completely contradict what you said, and made yourself out to be a fool. Save your time mate, get over AoC, have a cry, let go dude, take a deep breath, do something! think of some other way then trying to wage war on people who like the game or want to disscuss it. You piss me off.

if you don't like my/our posts, DON'T READ THEM! how can you be so stupid!!

see how ridiculous your post was? at least my original post was informative.

Dirtnap69, your last 3 post about AoC have been all about how bad it is.

That's cause i don't think consumers should have to pay for a buggy and incomplete product. i earned the right to criticise the game when i bought it.

Yeah you did and more fool you for buying it.

I guess you have only played WoW, 2 years after release, that is why you are such an ignoramus.

Maybe trolling the game may help your over inflated ego but utimately you are still a loser!

i thought AoC was a conan-themed WOW-expansion?

keep backpedalling, fanboys, AoC is only 70% of a failure!

you are welcome to vote at http://snappoll.com/poll/272139.php.

proves that most of us who have serious reservations about the game are *not* "just trolls".

to the retards: read my post *carefully*, especially the underlined part.

only 30% of all who voted were both happy & pleased with the game in its current state. 70% are either not happy, or not pleased. both of which are bad, duh.

ps: it's not my poll, it's linked from the official EU AoC forums.

pps: you non-stop fanboys are hilarious, but the numbers do not lie.

I totally get why the AoC Forums are so heated, and it can't be surprising FunCom at this point.

FC just keep stepping in it the whole way.

- pay2play beta

- early access fiasco

- pre-mature launch

- understaffed Customer Service

- untested patches/hotfixes that break as much as they fix.

You might be able to get customers to forgive one or 2 of those but, Intentionally or not they keep T-bagging the fans.  Even the rabid Fanboiz are gonna lose their sh*t soon if this keeps up.

lol @ teabagging fans. quality post, sir.
