We both know the answer to that, dont we?

Rubbish. His review did not give bad marks to the game because it is a "niche PvP game" but rather because of basic things that it lacked. Like good gfx, controls, good UI, good community etc. Being a "niche PvP game" is no excuse for not having those.

Ed from Eurogamer played the game for 3 hours - so how can he have ANY opinions on it?

The ones he had was false ones. False cause he didnt know the basic game mechanics of the game. Kinda like playing a FPS without using your weapon.

Kinda pathetic, wouldn't you say?

according to OP 20% of all that play darkfall gives it under 6 in score.

and thats from the people that plays it!!

20%

thats insane...

if we are saying 15000 people are playing darkfall, 3000 think its mediocre at best.

wow, congrats with yet another awesome victory.

You actually think everyone  voting in that poll is a fanbois? =)

There have also been a discussion if the Eurogamer reviewer actually played the game before making his review on Darkfall.

I think that the Eurogamer reviewer didnt enter Darkfall with an open mind. He had his score thought out BEFORE he logged in first time.

What puzzles me is how a reviewer can act like he did.

If he dont have an open mind to Darkfall then he isnt the one that should make this review. He is coloured with his negativism before logging in.

This is how the players of Darkfall rates the game and the result is as you all can see very far from the Eurogamer reviewers score of 2/10 -

http://forums.darkfallonline.com/showthread.php?t=185381

80% of today Darkfall players rate the game btw 6 and 10.

I give Darkfall a 9.

Darkfall isnt for everyone and letting a carebear like this Ed guy from Eurogamer review Darkfall is born to fail. He like carebear games like LOTRO and isnt interested in Darkfall.

It's like letting the devil review the bible.

Worst part of it all is that he didnt even play Darkfall before making his review.

I would be ashamed of myself if i were Ed Zirgon.

80% of people who regularly eat chicken wings like chicken wings. That statement similar to the statement above and is a logical nonsense.

As who will vote on a poll on the official game's forum. A forum that has been banning and still banning any person that has critique and isn't praising the game into the heaven's sky. Exactly, only diehard fans.

It would be the same as running a poll on a Fanatic Catholic website about wich religion is better and then posting everywhere that Catholism is the best religion, because the poll on the Fanatic Catholic website said so.

Cheers

This poll make much more sense then the Eurogamer review made by a carebear that didnt play the game.

The actual player of the game is the best reviewers cause they played the game for a long, long time and have seen the endgame and the complexity of the game.

Ed Zitron from Eurogamer didnt even scratch the surface of the game.

If you're a carebear then Darkfall isnt a game for you. But for the old UO players and other hardcore PvP:ers it's the best thing that happened to the MMO genre since UO.

bull this game is nothing like Uo and you know it. your poll makes no sense at all because all the reviewers are wearing rose tinted gogles and are so busy backing up the game they all acted as fanbot for that they would sooner die than rate a bad game with a bad rating.

Have you even played Darkfall?

Have you tried out the endgame skills in PvP?

Do you know how much skills affect the outcome of a battle with hi end characters?

Darkfall is as complex as UO when it comes to skill in PvP when it comes to hi end performance.

I played UO for +10 years and played Darkfall for 6+ months now and seen the similarities btw these games.

A good players wins angainst a bad player, and he wins bigtime.

Come back when you have some experience from hi end performance and the endgame.

I've played Darkfall and 2 is a decent score for it. And many old supporters and beta testers agree with this review and the score. Perhaps drop the case?

Latest poll on ratings by ingame players is btw 6-8.

Maybe it's time you realize you didnt like Darkfall but others do.

As a member of the Greater Troll Community, I feel proud to have Ed in the press. Keep up the good work, Ed! At last someone who presents games as they should be presented and does not lick the balls of the devs.

Gamespot would say something along the lines of  "Although the game is new and has all the maturity problems every MMO has near launch, it nevertheless has a great potential to fill a hard-core niche part of the market. Just as EVE-Online did a couple of years ago." No, Gamespot and Gamespot-lookalikes, DF has no maturity problems. It just is a bad, low quality game made as a side-job by people that were experimenting - and unfortunately were not good at it. And you do not need more that 10 minutes with the game to realize this. Actually, I think that Eurogamer wasted too much time with DF. 2 hours! This is what I call patience and proffesionalism.

Keep up the good work Ed. We need to spend our money wisely!

Seems you prefer reviewers that doesn't do his job in a professional way.

People playing Darkfall rate if btw 6-8 on a 10 scale.

That is  fair ratings for Darkfall and making reviews based on nothing as this joke of a reviewer Ed did is hurting the gaming industry.

Apparently Red Bedlam sent logs to pczone regarding Ed Zitron giving Roma victor a 8% after just few hours of gameplay as well (to be noted, those who read the PCZONE review say DF review was pretty much copy&paste from his roma victor review)

Then later he reviewed Dreamlords, giving it 17% causing major uproar from Dreamlords fanbase and...you guessed it! Dreamlords devs giving out logs of him barely touching the game! ...shortly after this the guy "disappeared" from PC Zones review crew.

This guy has been caught red handed while writing "reviews" out of his arse three times now...it's miracle anyone gives him any credibility anymore.

This is disturbing info.

A reviewer that is brownnosing the established large companies and discriminate the small indy companies.

Ed Zitron and Eurogamer credibility is out of the window.

1. Tasos

2,. Some other Dev.

3. Friend of a Dev or Shill.

4. Someone with ridiculuosly low standards who feels that a poorly done combat simulator equates to "amazing".

5. fanboy who can't let go..

No I was not stupid enough to buy it but one of my family members was even after I told them not to waste 50 bucks on something that is barely above shareware quality.

I'am not quite sure what exactly they were doing for 8 years.. or even 6 years.. whichever way you want to look at it.. but it sure as hell was not developing this game because in reality it should not have taken more than 2 years to build what amounts to nothing more than a totally empty, featureless, contentless video game. Darkfall is nothing more than a poory done combat simulator system with bad animations, outdated graphics, terrible sound/music , terrible CS, and barebones functionality at best. Couple this with a group of people who are seemingly some of the most incompetent and common sense challenged to ever launch a MMO and you have Failure within a few short months, if not weeks.

People are already saying they are bored and cancelling after only 3 weeks of play which shouldn't surprise at all becaus that's the obvious thing that would happen when there's nothing else to do in a game other than to PK and "full loot".

{Mod Edit}

Darkfall is by far the best MMO i ever played.

Just resubbed for 3 months.

+300 people fighting it out and just about no lag.

Darkfall is the best MMO i ever played. So much fun.

This game isn't a big behemoth MMO like most others. It's meant for a very small niche audience. The only problem right now is how many people are trying to get into the game. If wow had never come out, there wouldn't even be this problem right now.

WoW attracted millions upon millions of mindless drooling drones from the more easy-going casual gaming scene. (i.e. consoles, ect) And all these negative bitch-fest threads? Well that's them for the most part. Let them get it out, let them see the non-perfect graphics and run away, let them see the harsh death penalties and flee back to wow. Once they are all finally gone and the dust settles, Darkfall, the small niche mmo, will be smooth as butter and filled to the brim with the small percentage "hardcore pvp" slice of mmoers having the absolute times of their lives.

On this i can agree.

It's a carebear rampage at the moment.

It will settle down.

Sounds like UO, good ol' times. good stuff!

UO is my favorite game ever so don't get me wrong here but UO came out in 1998 I believe. If it feel and plays just like UO over 10 years later in this newer MMO market, well that is kind of sad.

And why is that?

UO gameplay is still the best we seen so being able to play a 3-D game with a similar feeling too old UO is definatly a winner in my eyes.

Anywho... I got in today and tried it out. From most to least boring.

Grafx - They are not as bad as people said, and at times they're wow, nice one, nothing like AoC (other than DFO has moving trees and moving shadows) but the grafx aren't making this game. Some character models look good, some a bit dated, whatever, I could care less. But just letting you know.

The animations are a bit awkward at first but you get used to them. Also in the very beginning the game seems to go really slow, you run slow, you sprint slow, but as your skills in these increase you pick up speed and the game starts moving along quite nicely.

GUI / user / player control of the char, etc... this is super strange at first, but you get used to it after a few hours and it turns into second nature after a while. At first I was mostly WTF? now, its all good.

Monster AI is like NOTHING I have ever seen in a MMO, they run around you, they kite you, they will gang up on you more than not, they are better opponents than most of the players I encountered. Everyone was hacking and slashing wildly, no strategy, nothing. Basically, if you have a brain use it in DF, its ALL about strategy. Oh yeah and if any of you remember UO and getting killed by a rat or a deer, be prepared to repeat the experience. - also the monsters talk to you i.e. "why wont you stop killing all us goblins" :)

World side - is HUMONGOUS - in the time I played I barely got from one goblin camp to another, I died a few times, got killed a few times as a gray and killed a few grays, loot was lost each time, the bank is your friend, and use it after you get anything of value.

Also, gold / items, etc... its not all that easy to acquire. Things are expensive, and I dont see people getting to the top of the ladder in a week or two, even with macroing. This game is LONG TERM.

Next... guilds. After a few hours, there were about 15 guilds started in the game, and one founded a city - lords of death - but they were all in beta and have that advantage. And yes, as of now, there is only ONE server EU and they plan to have 10.000 players at any given time on. The server is as stable as anything I've ever seen in a MMO launch - incredible even.

and finally the goodies. Pee Vee Pee - wowza! Strategy, skills, tactics, magic, melee, archery, it all comes into play. this is a no holds barred hard core pvp game. you have to think, you have to outwit your opponent in skill brawn and brains. This is what AoC claimed to be... I cant wait to get deeper into the game and expore it more see what more it has to offer.

So here's my overall impression.
First minutes - WTF?
First hours - Wow this is getting better
First day - can't wait for more. but don't expect rewards like in WOW or AOC - this is no b.s. you earn by being better, not by helping Cornbum Frostwilly kill a vagabond and bring him his manhood back.

P.S. there's going to be people for the picking, and I also think this game isnt for everyone, it's the closes thing to UO ive seen thus far, and it's totally open, and free. But for what it is, it's amazingly good, i think they're going to have my dinero for a long time.

Agree.

Pretty much how i felt during the beta.

Darkfall is a longterm game that grows on you.

God I don't know about anyone else but I don't know what to take serious anymore.  Is this a review of a obsesed fanboi who thinks DF is the second coming or the rantings of a troll just bashing the game for kicks.

Until they offer a free demo version guess I'll just steer clear of this one.

I played beta and this is a reviewer i can agree with.

You failed to mention the dozens of 'frozen' people in every starter town.  Everything I've seen is a bunch of people who can't move, seeing a lot of other people who can't move.

Funny, i didnt see anything of that?

Your apologzing because YOU didnt like the game?? weird

He also said he didnt troll here much, yet he apologizes here. Wait what?

Some people need some serious reading comprehension skills.

His entire post is about how he was a blind zealot fan who would troll back against the trolls defending a game he knew little about.

The meat of his post is what he found to be the short comings of DF all the while still trying to sell the game to friends and guildmates, only to realize he was trying to sell them into a game he did not feel was as great as he initially made it out to be.

He came here to give a heart felt honest opinion on the game, and apologize to those who he battled against in his blind faith of DF.

The post was good, well thought out and articulate.

Good reading for anyone with basic reading comprehension skills.

"I am here to apologise to a lot of you guys for the behavior I've probably exhibited in many places (not here often)."

His first line. Some serious reading comprhension skills are indeed needed.

I am not good at reading comprehension, but my spider sense tells me that when someone who has been banned on a game's official forum, comes to a site ,where his posting history is mostly negative towards said game, to appologize for being a fanboy and defending said game....well you don't need a higher iq than Paris Hilton to see where I am going.

Agree, anyone can disguise himself as a fan, just like this OP did.

And saying old UO players dont enjoy the game isnt true.

100% of the old UO players in my guild will continue to play Darkfall after beta.

To expect anything but what's happening right now.   We're talking about Adventurine here, a company with zero experience in mmo's.   MMO's launch even when your name is Blizzard, SOE or NCsoft is painful.  Now can you imagine when your new at this ?

Seriously, dont expect to be able to play this (note the world PLAY here, i'm not talking about being able to log ) for weeks.   Amazing the numbers of peoples who gave them money expecting to be able to log and play on launch day ...

Dunno what you're talking about?

Server been stable whole day, only problem was a sync one.
