Originally posted by AmazingAvery Game-development is not rocket-science to require vast amounts of resources and facilities; As far as creativity and ideas are concerned, a small team will probably be more effective than a large team, simply due to the fact that communication is more direct between the developers. You can see previous examples of unknown companies that made a name for themselves by publishing very successful games - Piranha Bytes with the Gothic series is a good example.
What a small developing company will suffer from, however, is the required speed to implement their ideas. In implementation phase, which is the transition from the "drawing board" to the coding, large teams are more effective obviously. In one darkfall Developer Journal Tasos said that there are gaming companies in the market that have Screenshot departments the size of Aventurine. One can clearly see that when it comes to speed of implementation, Aventurine is falling back due to resource constraints. The delays however don't mean that they are unable to deliver what they claim; they are simply unable to deliver in a timely fashion. For large companies like Funcom , whatever speed is gained by the large team and availability of resources is partly offset by the delay caused as a result of mis-communication between the developing departments. You can clearly see the results of this in the numerous launch date push-backs AoC has been forced to announce - and WAR probably too... |

Originally posted by AlienovrlordWell, they didn't show it to any reputable reporter. But still that doesn't mean it doesn't exist. And they wont show it to anyone before it is really ready and good to launch; the recent flood of negative comments from beta leaks of AoC is the best example that beta process needs a game as polished as possible, in fact it needs the final product for stress-testing and minor bug fixing.

I have nothing to gain from waiting for Darkfall, except perhaps a very good MMO once it comes out. Likewise, I have nothing to lose. I just don't go all paranoid over vaporware claims that make no sense. |

You want names? I don't have any, except for the username of Asp.
And i also have solid evidence that Aventurine exists and is funded, amongst other sources, from the Greek state as well. What else is required to make an unbiased individual believe that the game is in development and the developers are striving to release it? Does intention guarantee success? No. A million things can happen to actually prevent Aventurine from launching DF - force majeure coming in mind. But since Aventurine are not asking for anything in return when claiming that the game is in development, and they have produced evidence the game's existence, why not believe that this is the actual truth? |

Originally posted by singsofdeath Well, both are not right. The vaporware claims have long been refuted, although most opponents of DF selectively choose to forget all the evidence produced to support the opposite.
i.e. this link http://www.ypan.gr/c_announce/45_1843_cms.htm has existed for some time, proving that Aventurine is a solid company working under EU subsidization by the Greek Ministry of Development. Yet not even this can convince them that Aventurine exists and is getting money to make Darkfall... |

Originally posted by singsofdeath Well, unfounded judgment ,comments and bashing on a game, wherever they may be coming from, are not to be taken seriously. It is emotion speaking rather than reason and I'll agree with you that it is amusing.
I was referring to posts from the so-called "vaporware trolls" that try to prove all DF info we have gotten does not exist and has been faked. That , too, is amusing. |

Originally posted by singsofdeath Well, DF main criticism on AoC is that it is pathed, not-really-PvP, etc....the same things that AoC beta-testers are whining about really.
AoC criticism on DF is that every single bit of information displayed thus far has been faked. Which doesn't make sense .

All the opponents of Darkfall please answer me this one question:
Since Aventurine is not taking any pre-orders (to justify a large-scale scam on their part by promising an undeliverable product, cashing in on hype and then vanishing), WHAT REASON do they have to claim they are developing a game if they are not?
We know for sure that Aventurine and Darkfall is being partly funded by the EU (software development is subsidized in Greece - check http://www.ypan.gr/c_announce/45_1843_cms.htm and click to open the Word file. It is in Greek, but if you scroll down at #10 you'll see Aventurine got 265.236 Euro for development) and they need to deliver. There is no possibility on earth DF is a scam and not coming out... |
